It might just be easier to pack up all her crap and move to Grand Central, considering how much time she'd been spending here lately. Then again, that would involve lugging her and her brother's stash all the way over here from Federal Hall, and giving up their own cozy little room. Alright, so maybe they did have to share that room with a few other people, but the privacy was a lot more appealing than the convenience of being at Grand Central. Supplies were harder to come by at Federal Hall, true, but Ollie did his best.
Speaking of which, Ollie was wandering off by himself more and more these days, abandoning Allie at whatever safehouse was most convenient. She didn't mind, really, because he more or less returned in a timely fashion and with something valuable to add to their belongings. It got incredibly lonely, though, being without her brother. Allie had to keep reminding herself that she was a big girl and could take care of herself, but at the same time she couldn't help but remember how horribly alone she felt while Ollie had been in prison. He'd promised her he'd never leave her again, but where was he now? God only knew where...
Allie had given to wandering aimlessly about Grand Central, trying for all the world to imagine it as the beautiful place it used to be. It was hard, though, when the stench of over a hundred living people was overwhelming her senses. It was a petty thing, she knew, to concern herself with offensive odors, while so many people were fighting for their lives. Her nose had always been super sensitive, though.
She compensated by choosing moments at frequent random to cover her nose and mouth area with the sleeve of her sweater, and taking in huge breaths. It helped a little, but it also meant she was effectively breathing in her own stench that had set into the fabric and, therefore, it wasn't much of a solution.
Allie was trying to work up the courage to make a trip to the roof, when she noticed a girl sitting quietly, frowning as she was reading. Canting her head, Allie glimpsed the title and, not recognizing it, noted the author. Her expression brightened. "Isn't that the guy who wrote The Lord of the Rings? I loved those movies."
Without invitation, Allie plopped herself down near the girl, smiling amiably at her. "Legolas and Boromir were my favorite characters. Very hot."
