"Sort of," said Eloise, nodding. "Sort of like that. How biology interacts with itself, creating... You. But not as easy as that."
She often enjoyed talking about science with non-science types. They took things far more seriously, usually, than the science types did.
"That's all right, Evan. I don't know anything about art. You could tell me about it, though, if you wanted."
And then a funny look came over his face.

That was one of the reactions she was used to, at least. "Yes," she told him simply. "On my own. I don't really remember most of it."
It didn't really occur to Eloise why she'd be offended -- why Evan would want to apologise at all -- and she found herself shaking her head, half-smiling. No no, it's all right. Thats probably what she would've said.
Instead, she said: "I'm happy I came here, though. Mostly."
