Eloise couldn't remember any such children's books, but she'd been a particularly difficult child -- not one for sitting and listening to anyone speak for very long. Funny how those things changed.
"My mother was adamant about French in the home. She required my father to be able to speak fairly well before she'd let him meet her parents." Ellie smiled faintly. "What did you work in, Evan?"
Some people didn't like speaking about the past. He seemed at least somewhat comfortable, though -- and really, what else could she talk about that was so easy? The more Ellie had to think about what she was saying, the more chance there was that she'd say something inadvertently bizarre. As much as she didn't mind the inadvertently bizarre, it wasn't incredibly useful in this version of society.
