Rae was naturally optimistic. She loved looking at bright sides of situations and believing that things would be okay. Over the past few years, focusing on what went wrong had been so much easier, because there was just so much of it. It seemed like the ratio of good things to bad things was staggering sometimes. But moments like this, while she stood about ten feet back, watching the touching reunion between two long lost brothers (two long lost brothers that she happened to know, for that matter) made her optimism flare. There was still beauty to be found in the world, it was just the matter of looking in the right place.
She hugged Eli's EMT jacket around her, enjoying the physical warmth it brought to her almost as much as the emotional warmth that seeing Eli and David reuniting. David looked much the same as when Rae had seen him two years ago. He was a little more haggard, a little more weathered to the situation, but he looked mostly the same. She could only assume that he hadn't changed much at all, given that Eli had recognized him right away. Another good thing; that some things stayed the same even in the chaos. Rae took solace in that.
There was a sort of somber tone to the reunion, one that she could only assume had to do with the lack of their parents being there, and the optimism flickered a little bit, before rekindling when the two of them turned to look at her. She hadn't expected to be pulled into the conversation until later. As a matter of fact, she was about to leave them be and go back to meet with her father, but she'd take it. Her father could wait. His negativity had brought her down enough recently, and she needed this bright spot almost as much as Eli had.
Following Eli's beckoning, she started forward, giving her greeting and smirking at David's notice of her hair. The smirk widened when Eli wrapped his arm around her shoulders, and she leaned into him more than she probably should have. At least she had the excuse of needing warmth.
Eli's response had her grinning again, though when he mentioned the infirmary, Rae shook her head no. "I'm okay," she said, knowing that he more than likely wouldn't believe her. Eli was one of the only people (aside from Sarah and her father) who knew about her tendency to push through the pain. It was a dancer thing, she supposed. "I want to be here right now. With you guys."
David looked at her. "Are you sure? You look cold. Maybe you should get checked out…" he said, looking from Rae to Eli like whatever Eli said was the final answer here. It was understandable, Eli was his brother after all, but Rae hoped that Eli understood how important this was to her.
She turned her head to look at him. "I'm okay, Eli. For now. Really. I want to be here with you two and share that bottle like we talked about," she told him, though her expression probably read more like please, I need this. "I'll go tomorrow. I promise."
