She was stunned, simple as that. Well she was a lot of things besides stunned but for the most part she was sticking with stunned. She really didn’t want to make him regret giving the necklace back. Besides who would expect a thief to have a conscience? She certainly hadn’t. And for a long time she stared at the heavy pendant, such a little thing to have so much memory attached to it. “Thanks.” She mumbled not looking up her fingers closing around it once more. She couldn’t look at it longer so she settled for staring at her hand and feeling the metal against her skin.
A part of her wanted to scoff and another wanted to laugh and say something incredulous to his statement. The farthest either got was a shrug and a snort. It was sort of idiotic to not realize its importance. She didn’t see a whole lot of people these days hoarding jewelry to make themselves shine like peacocks to the single masses. Getting up she gave him a strained smile.
“So I hope you learned a lesson from this.” He’d just gotten quite the treat, she’d actually been vulnerable for more than four seconds and that was unacceptable. She didn’t do vulnerable, not even around Danny. So it was best to cover it up with more bravado and indignation than continue down the same path all soft and meek and let him see it. That just didn’t fly with her.
