Ollie wasn't without sympathy. And when the girl went from looking like she was just another female who liked shiny things to someone who had lost one of the few things that she had left that held sentimental value, it tugged at his heartstrings and he swallowed thickly. Shaking his arm casually, he felt the necklace fall out of his sleeve and into his hand. This had passed over the realm of joking and playfulness and right into something completely different. And Ollie had never liked being the cause of this kind of grief, even with his skillset. He closed his hand around the necklace and crouched down.
"Here," he said softly, holding his hand out, picking her hand up and placing the silver into her open palm.
It didn't take a rocket scientist to put two and two together. When she mentioned how important the piece of jewelry was to her family, Ollie realized exactly what he'd done and a significantly larger pang of guilt bubbled up in his stomach. "I'm sorry. I didn't realize how important it was."
