It was a bit awful. Lucretia probably needed a good cry-- and not that Bennett wanted to see her cry, but maybe it would do her some good? Keeping her feelings all bottled up inside wasn't very healthy. But who was Bennett to judge? This was a different world that they were living in, and people's sanity wasn't questioned as much as it used to be. It was as if the rough situations and living conditions had given them an excuse to be cold or grumpy. And an excuse to behave different or keep their troubles to themselves. But Lucretia's secret sadness, among other things, were kept strictly to Bennett. He'd never tell a soul the things that she told him. What was the rule? What's said in the squad car stays in the squad car? Something like that. She was his partner, and her secrets were safe with him.
He smiled, "You may tell your ass that it's welcome." Bennett shrugged, "it looks fine, Lucy. Regardless of how much or how little shampoo you've used in whatever amount of time, you still look lovely." Shaking his head, he chuckled, "if you smelled like steak, I'm not entirely certain I'd be hanging out with you," he teased.
And-- for the record, Bennett had not even thought about that. Nor did he want to. He was just saying, maybe that was why the zombies chased her? Okay, nevermind, it sounded dirty. But he totally hadn't meant it in that way!
"You'd better promise, Luce." He nodded, "and we're definitely not going unless we stick together. That's the rule." He moved to get up from the booth, "I've read it five times already. I think I can put it down, this once." He scooped up the book in question and tucked it under his arm. "what's the plan?"
