Vienna Teng prompt 10, Fullmetal Alchemist
Series: Fullmetal Alchemist
Characters: Alponse, Edward
Pairing: none
Type: relationship introspection
Warnings: None
Spoilers: For Ed and Al's backstory
Word Count: 199
Etc: Not happy with how this turned out, but wanted to post something.
Ed has always burned bright, blinding if you looked too close. He drew everyone's eye as a child, golden-haired and full of energy. Old Mr Greyson from would look at him and say, "That child will go places," and their mother would smile and thank him as she finished buying her produce.
The only thing anyone ever said about Al was that he was kind and close to his brother, but that never bothered him. Ed was the one meant for Great Things, and Al would back him up.
When their mother died, it was Ed who had the drive to stop mourning and move on. He had the idea to resurrect their mother, and Al went along with it because of the constant ache in his chest and he would never leave his brother's side. Of course it went horribly wrong, but the thought had never occurred to Al, and that was the difference between them.
The strangest part about being stuck in a suit of armor is that everybody looks at him first. It's uncomfortable; Ed is the one who deserves the spotlight, has made a name for himself. Al is only the follower, inexorably drawn along.
