Dora sat nervously on the closed toilet lid, chewing her thumbnail as she stared at the line of cups on the counter. She knew she was probably overdoing it a little, but she didn't care. After what happened last time, she wasn't taking any chances. She had to know for sure before anything else, especially before telling Cary. They'd been trying for what felt like forever now, and if she was wrong again... At least being wrong the first time was a good thing. They had been nowhere near ready then. But that was a long time ago. Years. Now... Now they were married and owned a house and Cary was finished with school and working full time, and they were ready. He had taken Tiny and Bingo to the park for some running around time before dinner with Tess and Greg, and Dora had begged off, claiming a headache. She'd really only wanted some privacy. She knew Cary would be a little upset he wasn't there if it was positive, but she also knew that he'd be more upset if it was negative. At least this way, she could protect him from the bigger upset. The timer went off and Dora jumped in surprse, switching off the alarm and taking a deep breath. She picked up the first test, then the second, then the third, feeling slightly light-headed when they all said the same thing. "Dora?" Cary's voice came drifting through the house, the sound of his footsteps cosing in on where Dora stood in the bathroom. "Do? Are you alright in there, kitten?" he asked from outside the door, knocking softly. "Yeah, I... Come in here," Dora replied weakly. The door opened and Cary stepped inside, brow furrowed in confusion and worry. "What...?" Cary's question died in his throat when he saw the items in Dora's hands. "Are those...?" Dora nodded. "...Are you?" Dora nodded again, tears filling her eyes. Cary just stared at her for a moment, then stepped forward to scoop her into his arms. She dropped the tests into the sink and fung her arms around his shoulders as he lifted her off of her feet. "We're having a baby," Dora whispered, her voice breaking. Cary couldn't even speak, burying his face into her neck and tightening his grip on her. They were having a baby. Their own little baby. |
