Dear State Governments:

Please stop putting civil rights on referendums so that douchenozzle bigots get the chance to deny minorities basic rights. The founding fathers warned about this sort of behavior-- they called it the "tyranny of the majority" and tried to design a system of government that eliminates this sort of stupid behavior as much as possible. Especially you guys who start to get equal marriage due to judicial intervention-- that's the entire purpose of the judicial branch of the government and you neuter an entire third of our system by doing this bullshit. And Maine-- congrats, you just managed to violate your own state constitution there. Nice EPIC FAIL.

If you must give in to the impulse to be a collective bunch of enabling douchebags (no, you do not get a free pass from having your "enemy to all that is good and decent card" punched for enabling the douchenozzles) then at least for the love of cute little kittens write the damn referendum so that it makes sense. Every state that's decided to vote on whether or not all American citizens get the basic right to the pursuit of happiness ends up putting out the crazily-worded referendum that people have to read twice and often still can't figure out. Make your own jobs easier-- most people can understand a referendum that says "Marriage Equality: Y/N." Many people have reported that they ended up accidentally voting the wrong way due to opaque wording. I, for one, would not be surprised to see suits that make the 2000 election look like a church picnic at a UU church in your near future for this sort of childish behavior.

No Love Whatsoever,
The management.

PS To Douchenozzle Bigots: YES you are a bigot. NO, it does not matter if you happen to personally have one and a half gay friends. The moment you think that you should get rights based on the set of genitalia that your partner has VS the set of genitalia your gay friend's partner has, you have become a bigot. Go read a damn dictionary sometime before you start crying about people calling you on your bullshit.

You want people to stop calling you bigots? Stop trying to take away people's civil rights and we'll talk.

We have 14 holds at [info - personal] eligeremod already! EXCITING!

We're going to open at around 20, so I'm getting all excited and anxious and stuff!

I may do some real pimping tomorrow. Maybe.

I am really in love with Katerina Graham who plays Bonnie on The Vampire Diaries (and, you know, the show in general) and it's making me really want to PB her. Which is bad, because I am maxed out on characters at both [info]wished and [info - personal] eligere and I definitely do not need more anywhere else.

She's so adorable, though.

I think I need a 12 Step Program for RP.

Not bad considering I only had a few things to tag tonight. I king of like keeping track of word counts. Makes me feel more productive.

I'm also enjoying one of the threads I'm doing a LOT more than I thought I would.

Current Mood: aggravated

Can't resist the (ahem) holiday icon.

I hate having all-day headaches from hormones. Added work drama does not help matters (none of it is particularly poised to suck me in, but I ended up staying late to deal with it because teenagers are stupid, stupid creatures sometimes). And I have meetings all tomorrow morning so heaven knows how all that's going to play out. I also need to do chores around the apartment and start packing (yay for book boxes!). And all my instincts want me to be a slug all weekend since it's my first weekend without class.

I pretty much aced the grad class, btw. I'm beginning to think that the insane writing program I was involved in during undergrad has given me an unfair advantage in grad school. And then I cackle because I rock so hard.

Downside is that grades won't be available on transcripts until December when the regular semester ends, which means reimbursement paperwork will have to wait 'til then. Nuts.

Low count for the day, because I had work and I didn't have much of anything to tag when I got home tonight. :( That's the crappy thing about being all caught up for once, I guess. :P

I can say that I am definitely liking the 2003 Astro Boy series. Picked it up on Sunday when I was out with The Girl as a bit of a YAY CLASS IS OVER present to myself. It doesn't come in subtitles, but the voice-acting is about regular American cartoon normal, which means it's not Oscar-winning but the actors didn't phone in their lines in one take like some anime dubs. They picked a really weird one for Dr. Tenma... he reminds me a little of a phone sex operator. XD I've noticed some of the romanizations of the names are different, and the 2003 series lacks some of the really depressing moments of the 1980's version.

Miso has been dubbed adorable by one of The Girl's coworkers.

I am envious of the NaNo participants, but realistically there's no way I can participate this year with moving and packing to do on top of my usual insane workload. I might still get off my butt and write something, though. It's been an age since I actually sat down and wrote stories, and doing a little comment flashfic for [info - personal] glitterbats makes me want to do something cool again. Maybe when this all-day headache goes away.

I'm having fun being a paladin. I'm going to spec her holy and take healing for a spin, since I enjoy being DPS and tanking definitely drives me up a wall. I haven't healed in years, though, and my last healie character was a shadow-specced priest, so this will be interesting. Moose even quit Demon Soul in disgust and rolled on my server on Alliance side and is considering bringing his badass prot warrior over and faction-changing to play with the rest of us gaiz. Hey, his tank will have a healer if I can settle down and play for a while.

And now we (in Cleveland) have Anthony Sowell.

Argh.

Body count is up to ten and rising. And this is the part that really freaks me out: I just saw pictures of his house and it's identical to the house in a nightmare I had two years ago about a serial killer.

Yeah, I really did not need that fun little touch.

So [info]crystalship and I have been working on our new game for a bit now and we still have some tweaks here and there, but I think we're ready to start taking holds/applications now. :o If any of you want to peruse the mod journal for us and make suggestions on anything I've forgotten to add due to my absolute delirium from working and exploding sinuses? Feel free. We're not going to actually open until we have at least twenty characters and I don't want to start really, really pimping until I know I haven't made any major fubars in the various info pages, but... consider this an invitation to nitpick and/or place your own holds if you're interested. :D

Yes, it's on Inksome. Because 150 icons + custom advanced s2 layouting = love.

If that doesn't make sense, blame Inventory. I never want to count/audit part numbers or move around service parts again. OMG.

So I play Vampire Wars over on Facebook, and there's five special limited edition abilities available for Halloween, and all are based on Horror classics. There's Blood-Soaked Vengeance (Carrie), Hierophant Transformation (Pinhead), Bile Spew (The Exorcist), Hyde's Rage (Jeckyll and Hyde), and Clown Frenzy (IT)

In order:

[info]yuuo and I together recognized all of these off the bat except for Bile Spew, so I went googling. Since I knew all the others were based on horror movies or novels-turned-movie, it was likely that this was a horror movie reference. I had nothing else to start with but that and the name of the ability.

So I googled.

The first result made me blink, stare, then begin laughing hysterically.

<.<

It's possible that Crystal and I are working on opening a new game set at an American Magical school that is exclusive to Pureblood students. It's kind of awesome and it was all her idea - I'm just along for the ride, but I have to admit I'm wicked excited. It's a shame that real life gets in the way of us doing everything we need to do to get it up and running.

Granted, real life has been getting in the way of roleplaying in general for me lately. Isn't it a shame I can't have a job that pays me to play on the internet? I'm looking forward to catching up on my next day off. Hopefully, it'll be a productive one.

In other news, I am going to visit my sister in Phoenix is just over a week. EXCITED! I really do need to finish some threads and things so I am in a good place to hiatus before I go, though!

So a while ago I noticed that my upper left bicuspid felt a little weird. This was a tooth that, a decade ago, required a root canal. I knew I needed to get it checked but a lack of time or money meant that I put it off (although I knew I shouldn't because postponing medical care of any kind is always A Very Bad Idea). But given how tight my schedule was and how many other things I had to budget for, I kinda hoped it could wait. And for a while, it did.

Then, last night, while I was having a pre-bed snack, I felt this CRACK! as I was chewing... )

Does anybody know who did the cover of "Scary Monsters" that played during FlashForward this week? Because it's the most awesome version of the song I've ever heard and I desperately want it, but I can't find a credit for it anywhere.

Edit: Okay, the cover is by Sea Wolf, and currently isn't available for purchase, more's the pity. But at least now I know! TY Artemis! Your Google Fu is nothing short of amazing. :D

I think I can add Astro Boy to my official list of fandoms (TM).

We did end up seeing the latest movie incarnation last night. It was actually a nice round of fun. I do agree with the other criticisms that Donald Sutherland's performance fell pretty flat, in that adult-trying-too-hard-to-be-relevant-to-kids sort of way, but the other guys were pretty fine, even if that made Dr. Elefun outrageously British. (And I'm sorry, he'll always been Ochanimizu-hakase to me.) When I heard some of the voice acting crit I went in expecting something along the lines of the Escaflowne dub, though, so my expectations might have been lowered.

In all, it did a competent job of following what I have managed to figure out is the basic Astro Boy sort of mythology. (My only other reference is the 1980's Astro Boy, though. I'm actually considering getting the 2003 animated series now too.) It did have an overlay of pretty stock Hollywood Kid Movie Hero's Journey Plot in there, but it still managed to capture that undertone of alienation and trying to fit in that runs through the anime. Parts are, in fact, about as dark as the series itself got, which is kind of a feat in a US kid's movie. (Though between this and Where the Wild Thing Are I'm kind of seeing a revival of unflinching storytelling reminiscent of the kid's movies of the 1980's-1990's before everything suddenly got sanitized.) Heck, they even managed to do the entire backstory on screen which if you know Astro Boy's origin story might raise your eyebrows.

I was even happy since it did manage to feature one of my two favorite characters after all-- Daddy Mustache got about a zillion minor cameos (they decided to translate him as Mustacio-- or however you spell that). Uran wasn't in it, but I didn't expect her to be as she was a later addition to the anime's cast, at least in the 80's Astro Boy.

It is sad, though, that of most of the stuff out right now or that I want to see in the near future, more of it is PG-G level than not. (Though I totes want to see Avatar now.)

Tomorrow I may or may not be seeing the new Astro Boy movie with The Girl. We know going in that it's going to be hella Americanized, and a lot depends on how bushwhacked we both are by the end of the day. It does, however, make a good excuse to show off Uran-chan. Alas, she is not in the new movie. Which is a double-alas since they'd be obligated to give her superpowers too in the Girls Can So Kick Butt Law of the mid-90's

I have also learned today that Miso is a nut for tuna fish, to the point of repeatedly trying to climb into the sink in order to lick the dishes for the PRECIOUS PRECIOUS REMAINS OF TUNA OM NOM NOM.

And holycrap the new layout is full of ALLCAPS.

Current Music: Chuck Berry - Roll Over Beethoven

Materials

3 5oz cans of tuna (15 oz total)
1 12 oz package noodles, cooked
1 can cream of mushroom soup
a bit less than a pint of cream, to moisten
brick of frozen corn
brick of frozen green beans
brick of frozen peas
crapton of grated Parmesan that's been sitting in the fridge
convenient breadcrumbs or panko to coat the top

Process

Combine all ingredients but breadcrumbs in a 9 x 13 pan. Or in a bowl if you're smart, which you will then pour into the pan.

Cover the top with breadcrumbs.

Bake at 325 for 25 min or until happy. (you want the veggies to still have a bit of crunch)

Eat and congratulate yourself. And fight the cat for it.
