Okay, everyone, the next major update in the code will be sometime this weekend, and hopefully that will fix a few lingering bugs in the up-to-date browsers.
The next big step is to try to get these suckers working in IE5 and 6. Fortunately, sherlock has pointed out a wonderful bit of code that will let us direct bits of css toward specific browsers and OS without relying on hacks or quirks.
So I am now calling for any volunteers who are familiar with the kind of css the older IE versions need, since I am really not. If anyone can come up with any code, any code at all, to make the new html work in IE 5 or 6, we can take that code and crank it into the style sheets without disturbing the layout in up-to-date browsers.
Is that brilliant or what?
So if you are or know anyone who is good with css for IE, please consider pitching in on this. Please spread the word if you can.
I will be back on Monday, after I've gotten my paper grading done. *salutes*

Still debugging, but hope is in view; call for volunteers
I don't know if anyone has pointed this out but in Worksafe with Sidebar, if you go to reply, you have a huge space between the text and the replying box. No, no, don't worry! I just checked with IE instead of my usual FF and everything was fine. Looks like the Web Developer Toolbar has decided to block worksafe.css for some crazy reason. I tell it not to, it keeps blocking it. I went to the extensions help forums and it looks like someone else had this same problem. Unfortunately, the developer wasn't terribly helpful (create a new profile! obviously your profile has just randomly become corrupt and my extension has nothing to do with it! He tells this to every person with a problem), so now I'm going to try a few things to see if I can fix it. Good thing I back up my profile data regularly. (;_;) That's strange. I have the Web Dev toolbar too but I'm not having that probem. I wonder why just some people do. I toggle the bar, keeping it hidden except for when I need it...maybe that helps? Can't help with IE, but I just noticed that the sitescheme pages don't have a You'll have to talk to Squeaky about that; it's a template issue, and may even be in the pipe for the next core code update already. Just thought I'd bring this to your attention. You probably know about it already, but just in case! Loving the font change in Worksafe but what's up with the font? See here. There are no size settings at all, on the new schemes, so they should be taking font size from your browser defaults. I'm not really sure doing that makes sense, since my browser defaults appear to be 16 pt TNR. When I reduce it to be 12 pt (which is what everything else appears to be), not only is every other site so small I can't read anything, but IJ does not seem to hold a standard either. The old schemes are set to things like point 10. In a lot of ways, it would make designing easier to do that, but there are so many different screen resolutions out there, there's no way of making sure it's readable for everyone. *rueful* Such is life in web design. Verdana does look a lot bigger than TNR which I guess explains the difference in size that I saw without anyone changing any font size in the code. I just wanted to say thanks for all of the great work! I would volunteer but my knowledge is very limited. This comment is just to second about the font size being a little smaller in Worksafe and the other new one. I love that it's verdana but no matter what I try, I can't reduce it without making other sides practically unreadable so a middle ground would be fabulous ;* |
