Who:Dafne and Nate
What:Dafne comes to visit
When:Monday Evening
Where:Nate's Room
Rating:SFW? Maybe... you know what...I can't promise that.

Dafne wandered down the Zebul seventh year hallway, her thin shoulders slumped, and a glazed over look in her normally vibrant blue eyes. She wasn't in a bad mood, or even in a sad one, just sort of a post-studying haze with one goal in mind: Nate's room. Her hands in her pockets added to the relaxed slump she had going on, and she looked like her typical evening self in plaid cotton pajama pants, t-shirt, and flip-flops.

She paused in front of Nate's door, knocking lightly on it before leaning casually against the doorway to wait. She hadn't seen much of Nate in weeks, something she sincerely regretted as she waited at the door, twisting her unstyled, slightly wavy blond hair around a finger. Spending five weeks running herself into the ground studying, traveling back to Venice, and dealing with her responsibilities to the swordplay club and the choir was not something she planned to do again any time soon, and for tonight at least she planned on relaxing.

Nate had always been one for studying, but it would be a lie to say he didn't wish Dafne had picked a different time for going into full-time studying mode. For the first time in his life, he had a girl who not only allowed him to kiss her but one who seemed to enjoy it. And she was too busy studying to spend time with him. He was starting to think that some sick person up there wanted him to graduate a virgin. It was almost more than he could stand. He sat the textbook down once he realized that nothing was sinking in, stretching in his chair and rubbing the back of his neck.

That was when he heard the knock on his door. He swivelled around in his desk chair, looking over at his clock to check the time before standing to open the door. His face lit up once he saw it was Dafne, the tired look in his eyes replaced by a broad grin. "Oh hey," he said, stepping back to let her into the room. "I was just thinking of you."

"Oh yeah?" she smiled, her body straightening up as she danced into the room. Just seeing Nate made her feel beyond refreshed and filled with an unfamiliar adolescent giddiness. Dafne impulsively threw herself at him like a baseball to a baseball glove, wrapping her arms around his midsection tightly and burying her face in his chest. It was an innocent, childish gesture, nothing sultry, and holding onto him the giddiness just seemed to increase. "I was thinking of you too, she murmured, unwilling to pull her face away from his chest so that her voice came out in a silly sounding, muffled way.

Dafne closed her eyes and held on, the sleepy tenseness leaving her shoulders once and for all, so that they truly relaxed without slumping. She hadn't realized while she was panicked how much she would miss Nate, but just being near him made the five weeks feel like an eternity that was pleasantly receding into the past. "I'm not interrupting anything, am I?" she asked at last, pulling her face away to stare up at him with childishly wide eyes. Out of the corner of her eyes she could see the open book on his desk, abandoned, a hint of worry crept past the giddiness she had been feeling. She really hoped he wasn't busy.

"Yeah," he said in a teasing tone. It really was unbelievable to Nathan that she was with him, even months after the fact. He was taken back when she threw herself at him, staggering back a few steps and letting out an involuntarily gasp before he was able to catch his balance. For such a tiny thing, she sure was strong. Once he felt sure on his feet, he laughed and wrapped his arms around her, picking her briefly off her feet as he did. "I'm glad you stopped by," he said, smoothing down her hair with one hand and keeping his hold on her with the other. "It's much more fun to think about you when you are here."

He scoffed at her question. "There is nothing that I would rather be doing, to be honest," he looked down at her, raising an eyebrow. "You're saving me from more busy work. It feels strange to not be studying for finals right now. Not that I am complaining, mind you," he grinned. "But what are you doing here? Can I take this to mean that your self-imposed exile is over?"

"Yes," she said, nodding. "Yes, it's definitely over." Dafne let her arms drop to her side for a moment, but then the next she couldn't resist reaching out and grabbing at his side, almost as if she were making sure he was still real, her eyes fixed on his face to gauge his reaction. Every once in a while she had this aching fear that her touch wouldn't evoke a smile, or that he simply wouldn't be there at all. On some level she knew it was irrational, and she didn't want to sound paranoid, so she never voiced it, but she checked just to make sure.

"There's nothing I would rather be doing either," she agreed with a smile. "I didn't realize how much I missed you until just now."

"Good." he said, bobbing his head once. "That means I can do this," he paused, picked her up and walked backwards to the bed, sitting down with her in his lap. "I almost thought you'd forgotten about me!" He said, leaning down and kissing her lightly on the neck. "I thought I was supposed to be the one with my head buried into a book, not you! This has been a neat little role reversal thing, but I am more than ready for things to be back to normal now." He tightened his grip on her, not wanting to waste a second that he had with her.

"I do wish we were able to go on Spring Break together," he said wryly. "There is no way we could have gotten in as much trouble as I managed on my own, and it would have been more fun for me with you around. And I wouldn't've been forced to see Dan and Stella make eyes at each other." He shuddered slightly as he remembered the details of his wild holiday.

Dafne tucked her legs behind Nate's knees once he was seated, sort of curling herself around him and cuddling close, her eyes closing. "Are you saying I'm smarter than you?" she teased. "I don't have a photographic memory, I have to study too."

"Spring break sucked without you," she agreed, slipping her arms around his neck and pulling away to look him in the eyes. "You wouldn't have had time to get in trouble," she said with a grin, leaning in and brushing her lips against his. She held that for a moment, her eyes closed at first but fluttering open to see whether his were closed as well, and what kind of closed they were.

"You are so smarter than me," he said in a mock serious tone. "You managed to get the Head Boy as your boyfriend." He pulled back and looked at her. "Hey, are you psychic or something? How did you know that would happen?" He teased. "It does explain what you are doing with me," he said, pulling a face at her. "You like the power, right?"

He swallowed involuntarily at her remark. "Oh?" He asked, his voice cracking. He didn't have time to say anything else before her lips were upon his. He often wondered if he'd ever get used to kissing her, if one day he'd be able to think rationally while she was touching him. He doubted it. He lifted his hand and ran it across the side of her face before threading his fingers through her hair. His eyes were suddenly too heavy to hold open and he allowed them to close as he kissed her.

Dafne pulled back just enough to look him in the eyes again. "Oh," she repeated back to him with a slight smirk. Nate's innocence was pretty adorable, the way his voice cracked whenever she said something he wasn't used to dealing with.

"Well, you know," she added. "short people often have a thing about power."

Dafne leaned in and rubbed her nose against his affectionately. She loved the way Nate responded to her, that constant sense of wonder that he seemed to have, the way he laced his fingers in her hair. She loved her response as well, something different from the empty physical pleasure of the past. Her heart always sped up when he lifted her off the ground, when he held onto her tightly, or even when his hand brushed hers. She felt constantly afraid of the loss she would feel when he was gone--whether from a breakup, or old age--but she liked the feeling of being so personally invested in someone.

He felt himself flush and wished once again he could manage to be cooler about these situations. One day he would get through an entire interaction with Dafne without embarrassing himself, but it wasn't going to be today. "I knew it! You are using me, aren't you?" He asked dramatically, breaking the moment before he did something stupid. "Well, they don't call me 'Bitch Boy' for nothin'," he said, wrinkling his nose in distaste at his humiliating nickname.

"But on a different note entirely," he said, shifting his weight slightly so to have a better view of her face. "Do you want to go to the dance with me?" He asked, taking her hands in his. "Am I supposed to ask? Or is it a given that we are going together? TV tells me both, so I am unsure on this." Even though he felt confident she would agree to go with him, he still felt nervous asking.

"You know it!"

"I think you should always ask," Dafne added, wondering how she would know he wanted to go with her otherwise. "I mean...what if it were a party one of us didn't know about and the other one assumed?" of course, this wasn't quite what she was afraid of. What she was really afraid of was assuming that they were going to something together when Nate didn't actually want to go with her. Dafne flushed as well, a little bit unsure about the entire thing. "Also, yes," she added, realizing that she'd forgotten to actually answer his question, a realization that only made her feel more flustered.

The idea that Nate wouldn't want to go anywhere with Dafne was laughable. He would go sit inside an active volcano if she thought it was a good idea. "Okay then! I will be sure to ask. But if I don't ask, you should remind me. I wouldn't put it past me to forget about something like that." He wasn't sure why she seemed so flustered, did she really not want to go? No, surely she would have said so if she would rather do something else that night. "I guess I'll have to get you one of those little flower things." He didn't understand the function of the flower bracelet thing, but he felt confident it was his job to procure one for Dafne.

"This might be my last big dance in school, might as well make the most of it."

Dafne, whose face lit up when he mentioned flowers, pouted and laid her head on Nate's shoulder when he mentioned it might be his last big dance at Idris. What were they going to do when he graduated? She wondered, knowing it was a silly question considering how much Idris students travelled to begin with. It wasn't like the distance was going to cause that much of a problem, but still, things were going to be very different with Nate not down the hallway.

She nuzzled her face against his neck, breathing in deeply, somewhere over the past few months his smell had become incredibly soothing, and the pout dropped from her face as she pushed all thoughts of Nate leaving aside and closed her eyes. Had she been this sleepy at the beginning of the evening? Dafne had an idea that she was, but she couldn't quite remember anymore.
