Who: Jared and Rose.
What: Cla— Crashing.
Where: Cafeteria.
When: Friday afternoon.
Rating: PG-13 for possible cursing.
Status: Completed.

It was a typical April day.

The weather was bleak and cold with only a bit of sunshine peeking through the grey clouds. Jared had just finished the last of his morning classes, making his way through the school grounds towards the cafeteria. Since he wasn't exactly a big fan of eating food with a bunch of people surrounding him, he aimed to grab his food quickly, before disappearing outside to enjoy his meal by himself.

Upon entering the confines of the lunchroom, he joined the lines of students, selecting different items from the counters. It didn't take long for him to get everything he wanted. Being unable to digest proteins accurately, the amount of food he normally consumed was more limited than his fellow peers. He didn't mind though. Adding a plate of spaghetti onto his tray, he swerved away from the group, bumping straight into someone.

The clank of the platter against the floor buried the subtler sounds of utensils and food falling onto hard marble. Taking a step back instinctively, his nonchalant expression shifted into one of slight irritation, as his eyes briefly scanned the mess. The emotions on his pale face only worsened, when he looked up to see who he had exactly crashed into.

It was that bloody mongoose. How sickening. Of all the people he could have bumped into, why did it have to be somebody he was completely and absolutely disgusted by? The sight of her sent a chill of repulsion down his spine, his annoyance becoming ever the more prominent. "Watch where you're walking, Burton," he said, eerily impassive except for the clear hint of abhorrence on the very last word, "You have successfully soiled perfectly good food."

Omorose was minding her own business, walking through the cafeteria and going to get a vegetarian meal. It was even more irritating than before now that she knew that the Headmistress was being blatantly racist against Therians. It was a poor week to say the least.

So she was paying less attention than normal until she was slammed into with a tray of food. Depending on the person, Rose's reaction would've changed from slight irritation to true ire. She was leaning somewhere between the two until Jared began speaking.

"I have successfully spoiled the perfectly good food? How about you and your extreme clumsiness have completely ruined my outfit." He had sounded entirely impassive about everything, excepting her name, and that irritated Rose all the more. If the person were apologetic, she'd have been less angry. "My sister must be right about snakes. Slippery. What happened, Master? Trip over your feet?" Rose's glare was clearly angry.

Well, wasn't it just plain human of her to instantly become defensive and rebuke childishly to his comment? It was obviously her fault for getting in his way, since he wasn't exactly the type of person who would want direct physical contact with someone -- especially someone that happened to be a bloody mongoose. "There isn't any need to react immaturely," he replied with the same indifference, briefly glancing down at her dirtied clothing at the mention of them, "If you had bothered to pay attention to where you were going, your precious 'outfit' wouldn't have been 'ruined'. You really do lack modesty, Burton."

It was apparent Jared didn't know Rose or her sister well enough to differentiate them. After all, why would he give them even a second of his thoughts when he despised one with his entire being? He was a black mamba. Dalila was a mongoose. She was a natural enemy and, with how much he already hated the human population, it only gave him more of a reason to avoid her (and anyone who remotely resembled her) like the plague. Even though he hated Rose less, he assuredly didn't notice it was her at all in the present moment and stuck with the assumption that she was her sister -- not that it mattered much to him either way. It only meant his impolite was much more enhanced.

"You bumped into me and completely soiled my lunch," he continued, tilting his head slightly, "and now, without even giving a proper apology, you have the audacity to throw a childish tantrum. How unsurprisingly course of you."

"That would be you," she glared at him angrily. "I was walking and you, without so much as looking where you were going, bumped into me. I don't know if you're secretly romantically attracted to me or what, but you're decidedly not my type."

Rose couldn't understand why Jared Master was such an unbearable prick, but the more she interacted with him, the more she believed Dalila and the fact that snakes were awful. Perhaps as awful as Faie, but she wasn't quite sure about that. Master would have to irritate her even more to do that. He definitely hadn't surpassed the Headmistress yet.

"You want me to give you a proper apology?" Rose asked, a slight tone of shock in her voice. "You'd have a better chance asking the Headmistress to apologize to you for discriminating against Therians than for me to apologize to you for you bumping into me."

Wasn’t she obstinate? He had to give her that, but it didn’t help his point of view of her at all. Scoffing at her words, he couldn’t believe she would actually say something so remarkably false, “Don’t make such a disgusting suggestion. ‘Secretly romantically attracted’ to you? You’re certainly high up on your horse, Burton.”

It was incredulous for him to think she would develop that sort of explanation. Then again, she most likely didn’t know he was a misanthrope. The accusation was still extreme though. Jared couldn’t deny the fact that he was like any other being in this world, since it was an obvious truth. There were people he was physically drawn to, and persons he considered decent-looking. He had his personal needs. There was no way to avoid it, so he wasn't completely abhor by humans as most would assume — especially if he was willing to do more than simply touching them. But he had his likes and dislikes, and the mongoose was on the top of the list for pure, unadulterated hatred.

“I have no interest in pests, so you can stop spouting your ludicrousness.” Apparently, they were already starting to make a scene in the cafeteria, as most of the students had halted in their tracks to speculate the ongoing bickering. The food remained on the floor and the problem didn’t seem to be resolving. At all. “Anyone can tell you’re reacting so noisily because you just don’t want to admit it was your fault,” he clicked his tongue pointedly, “Quit being so childish. Your indirect anger towards me from whatever bleeding issue you had gotten yourself in with the Headmistress has nothing to do with the current situation.”

"I can't say I'd blame you if you were, but you're not my type," she replied, bitingly, as he said she was high up on her horse. To be honest, it was something Rose would say but something Dalila never would. She was outwardly very confident in herself, especially her mystery and romantic allure.

When he called her a pest, she glared at him again, aware of the scene they were making and the students staring, but not quite caring to save face. This was his fault after all. "I'm reacting noisily as you put it, because of your inability to open your eyes when you move and apologize to people whom you have wronged you fool. If anyone's a child in this room, it's you." When he said that she was angry at him because of an issue she got herself into with the Headmistress, Omorose shook her head slightly. "Wrong Burton you imbecile. Dalila is the one who got detention this week, not me. I haven't had an in person issue with the Headmistress ever." Except for the fact that Rose loathed her and she would have to try especially hard not to prick her upon seeing her.

“Differentiating between you and your sister is not exactly at the top of my priority list,” he replied simply, beginning to feel a slight exasperation at how long this conversation was taking. Why did he bother? Humans were all the same. He'd only be wasting his time, trying to convince someone so completely unreasonable and unjustifiable.

Not to mention, the crowd was starting to build up, since it seemed news of a public bicker had been spread around rather quickly. He already had to spend the majority of his days with these insolent people. Causing a scene and sticking around any longer than necessary would just create more trouble for himself. Lowering down to one knee, Jared began to clean the mess quietly. He might not have considered it to be his fault for the incident and he certainly didn't care about others, but he wasn't spoiled and he wasn't the type to bother somebody else with an issue he was involved in – even if he couldn't be blamed for that particular issue. “I'm not going to drop to your level and carry on this argument with you,” he said curtly, “so you can leave now.”

Rose let out a little humph and was about to snap back that if he cared to talk to either of them at all, he ought to realize which Burton was which and with ease. Practically anyone else in school did so. After all, Omorose carried herself with a sense of mystery and Dalila carried with her joy. At least, that was how Rose saw it.

As Jared began to clean the mess, Rose grabbed a napkin and began wiping herself off, but not deigning to help him whatsoever. Instead, she merely glowered at him as he cleaned the mess and spoke to her again. "You're going to have to be the one who leaves, then, because thanks to you, I've been stopped in the middle of my lunch by your clumsiness without apology."

“First of all,” Jared collected the last of the mess, beginning to rise up from off the floor, “the one at fault was you and your incapability of seeing where you're going. If you had the common sense to walk further away from the line, no one would have bumped into you.” Sliding the ruined food into a trashcan, he placed the tray on top with the rest. “Secondly,” he turned to face her, “since you seem to lack the modesty to drop an unnecessary disagreement, I'll be happy to be the better person and let you relish in your false sense of accomplishment.”

Without another word, he walked past her and the crowd of onlookers, deciding to return to his dorm room. It seemed he had lost his appetite after that entire ordeal. All he wanted now was peace, and that would be what he'd hopefully get.
