Business had been slow since the most recent attack and Bazzer wondered if it would pick up or if there would be another. People were afraid to go out after dark and it wasn't worth keeping the shop open past sundown, though there was usually a steady stream of regulars in the evenings. Sitting at his desk at the front of the shop, books piled almost haphazardly around him, his current and intended reading, Bazzer was supposed to be figuring the books to make sure that they balanced. Instead, he kept staring out through the glass paned window at the street, watching people as they passed and wondering if he should go ahead and begin to close or if he should stay open for a few more hours just in case the nighttime regulars came. It was nearly dusk and he would need to light a lamp soon.
"Sebastian!" his uncle called from upstairs where they shared a small flat above the shop, "If no one's down there then come on! Supper'll be ready soon," supper was usually some sort of stew or soup made with whatever was on hand. Neither man was a decent cook and they couldn't afford a housekeeper to cook for them. Dinner's weren't so bad though, there was a pie shop down the road that Bazzer loved. It reminded him of his mother's cooking as a child. With a sigh, Sebastian tore his attention from the window and back to the books. They were close to balancing...if he could only focus long enough to finish the figures.
