To the Editors of the Morning Chronicle
Dear Editors.
On the afternoon of June 28th, I came across the contents of the Morning Chronicle, and much to my dismay have found this series, penned by the hand of Joseph P Horrigan. It is a cautionary tale of creatures of the night metamorphosed from human form to awful creatures. A legend known to the Heathen Britons as the “Werewolf”. To intrude upon the goings of our neighbour and to live in suspicion and superstition, or our lives will be lost to a terrible accident.
I have been employed by several reputable organizations in the past 10 years in uncovering hoaxes and all of them had devious and evil aims. The very presence of a hoax is an abomination to the progress man has made from primeval age. A hoax robs us of our true sense and allow our agitated minds to succumb to the duplicity of villains. Villains like Joseph P Horrigan.
I should hope that in London, the cosmopolis of the World, we should believe such terrible things. But in this age there are many fools and gullible creatures as in the age when witches were burned. The men who believe that such things as werewolves exist are no better then savages in Haiti who dry out the heads of their enemies and wear them as lucky amulets. And I believe will come to worse ends. Men like Joseph P Horrigan whose cruel pennings would have been solitary, now reach a thousand homes every morning. These wild stories into the hands of ladies, children and the gullible, far easier now.
If I were you I would fire Joseph Horrigan, and see he is better employed along the lesser bookstalls in the Strand. We cannot live in a society governed by fear and superstition. And I will not let this disgraceful item go unremarked.
