Draco watched Harry through the window as he tugged on a pair of gloves then picked up the large flat shovel. Tossing his scarf around his throat, Harry set to it, scooping up a large mound of snow from the walk and dumping it off to the side.

Idly, Draco watched Harry work for a few feet then smirked as Harry stopped to adjust his scarf and hat. Opening the door, he flicked his wand at the path; it cleared instantly and Draco called out to Harry.

"Get in here; I'm cold!"

Harry turned and gave him a two-fingered salute.

Over the past month or so I’ve been getting quasi-obsessed with the television show Heroes. I watched Season 1 (very good) and Season 2 (very bad) on DVD and I’ve also been watching the current Season, 4.

Bill sighed and dipped his spoon back into the pot, offering the bite to Neville. "Here, taste Severus's Christmas pudding. It's excellent, just don't breathe in while you swallow; it's been soaking in Firewhisky since last summer."

Neville laughed out loud.

"Shhh… Mum hates that his pudding is better than hers."

Harry frowned as he stood at the window, and he turned toward to the bed. "Get up! It's a beautiful morning, despite the cold."

Draco gave a mock-snore in answer.

Harry eased up the window, scooping up the fresh snow and packed it into a ball. Taking aim, he threw it at lump that was Draco's blanketed head.

1. My purse. I’ve been using it for about a year and a half since I got is last spring at a “Share Your Stuff” exchange that was held at Whole Foods when I was working there.

2. A $25 Barnes & Noble giftcard—a couple of my co-workers gave it to me at my farewell party right before I left Chicago in September.

3. Chapstick from ALDI’s. Probably toxic.

4. An admissions badge from the Corning Glass Museum where my father and I stopped on our trip back from Chicago.

5. A purple Hello Kitty notepad.

6. My wallet—many years old and a bit overfilled. It’s pink and has the Sanrio character My Melody on it.

7. Bath & Body Works vanilla scented anti-bacterial hand lotion. I can’t use regular anti-bacterial gels because they dry my skin out but this works well.

"Is it that time of year already?" Severus huffed.

Harry hummed as he walked past, toeing up to plant a kiss on Severus's cheek.

Severus rolled his eyes and turned to face Harry. It was then that he noticed Harry only wore a small Father Christmas hat, and he was standing under the mistletoe.

Leering, Severus followed Harry, softly singing, "It's the most wonderful time of year!"

I rec'd this fic last year and I will again because it's my favorite holiday fic bar none. If you haven't read jadzialove's Humbug I must insist that you do sometime between now and the New Year. It's an absolutely perfect take on A Christmas Carol. I'll refund the purchase price if you don't enjoy it. :P

As everyone's mentioned the fests are starting. I have three anon fics out there in the universe-snarry_holidays, daily_deviant's Kinky Kristmas, mini_fest over on LJ. Druella is trying to bring the niceties of pureblood society to Crazytown, Madkingsland, by organizing tea parties and soirées and whatnot. I am actually not kidding. She's already at work deciding how to manipulate people with just the invitations alone, right alongside patiently replicating a few of Dorea's favoured playthings while Dorea describes them.

Where does she intend to host such things? Why, Grimmauld Place, of course. *facedesk* SHE DOESN'T EVEN WANT THE DAMN HOUSE (I CERTAINLY DON'T WANT THE ~TOKEN OF BLOODLINE WAR~!), but she's decided it's a pretty useful pawn to getting things she wants. Plus, it's the principle of the matter, and goddamn, apparently Druella Black is not going to halfass the principle. She pretty much has refused to go more than a foot outside that house since the EPIC "YOU ARE NO BROTHER OF MINE" stuff (only if Cygnus is still inside it and if it's necessary, like meeting Dorea outside to bring her in the house) and so is PAYING PEOPLE IN SHINY MAGIC GOODS to run her errands for her.

That said, AM needs to stop swallowing my soul because I have SO MUCH other stuff to DO. I wanna play at TOS, omg. :/


VICKIE. TWO QUESTIONS, the first just my curiosity, the second more logistics.
1) Where the heck is Wally at this point, the Three Broomsticks?
2) WHEN did she leave? Dani said Cy's pretty much ignoring her after that last response to him, so did she pack her toothbrush and leave yesterday? And was there shrieking/a throwdown because Druella barricaded them in earlier, or only until Druella dropped what was keeping her in?

adventdrabbles first prompt is up!!! For those that haven't played before you can write one drabble a day or pick and choose the prompts you like. You don't even have to use the prompts. It's not just for HP either. Your fics can be true drabbles of 100 words or mini-ficlets. Oh, and I always forget drawbles. I might try to do one or two this year-that's always embarrassing. :P I had a blast last year-I wrote every day plus I did a 14 day series to finish it off. Not sure whether I'll manage that again but I do want to at least write every day.

Fests--santas_lap is already up and running. daily_deviant's Kinky Kristmas, snarry_holidays and mini_fest (this one over on LJ) all begin posting tomorrow. A couple of days ago I finished reading Jean Plaidy’s Rose Without a Thorn, a historical novel about Katherine Howard (5^th wife of Henry VIII—beheaded) and I’ve just started Cornelia Funke’s Inkdeath, the 3^rd and final novel in her Inkworld trilogy. Inkdeath is going to take me a while to read. It’s 663 pages long and even though it’s a young adult novel the prose is dense and rich like liqueur.

Funke’s Inkworld series is all about books and reading. One of the characters, Fenoglio, is an author who is magically transported into his own book. However another character, Orpheus, has the ability to rewrite Fenoglio’s book and alter the reality therein.

Fenoglio wonders, “…was there any worse fate than having to watch something else twist your own words, adding colorful touches—in very bad taste—to the world you’d made?” Reading this I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of guilt as a writer of fan fiction. Like Orpheus, I delight in messing about with other people’s imagined worlds and adding lurid elements to their stories. I’ve always considered it quite a creative enterprise however Fenoglio’s dilemma does make me look at it from another perspective.

One thing I can take some consolation in is the fact that nothing in the Inkworld series is clean cut. Fenoglio, with his sense of authorship towards the world around him, is a very ambiguous character not nearly so much in control of the world he created as he would like to be.

When I finish Inkdeath, I’ve decided that I’m going to reread Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. I read it for the first time back in the fall of 2004 but I really plowed through it, I’d like to go back and do a more leisurely reading taking in more of the details.
