Summary: Halloween held many little treasures for Remus.

Gourds, with hidden little treasures within. It was always a secret between the two of them, beginning after the Shack incident. Every Halloween, they put treasures inside: love notes, jewelry and silly things. Hidden among the graveyard, among the tombs; a scavenger hunt. It was much safer to exchange gifts at Halloween than Christmas.

This year, Remus hunted among the fall leaves… Where did that sly snake hide the gourd? What color? Yellow with bumps? Variegated green? Sometimes the snake even carved the gourds. One year, Remus found chocolate within a gourd with the carving of a howling wolf.

Remus loved to set them up on his window sill -- How many years now? -- the gourds always held in perfect stasis by the preservation charm he wove around them.

This year he wondered if he would find any gourds. The snake was on the run, labeled a killer, labeled a traitor. With unknown trepidation, Remus decided to hunt by the white tomb. It almost seemed simple. Almost too easy.

There among the cold smooth marble were many gourds in decoration for the season. Among them, he spotted a pale one. Upon it a phoenix with his wings opened in glory - within, a white handkerchief.

Surrender….

Remus smiled to himself and pocketed his treasure.
