WHO: Oliver Wood and Alicia Spinnet
WHAT: an attempt at civil conversation
WHEN: October 9 2000, just at close
WHERE: Quality Quidditch Supplies, Hogsmeade
STATUS: in progress
RATING: probably R for Alicia's colourful language
TAGGED?: yep
F-LOCKED?: not yet

Oliver was actually nervous, as ridiculous as that sounded. Pixies danced a jig in his stomach and he felt like he'd been hit with a bludger. Did he really care so much about her opinion? What would it matter either way if she liked or hated his shop? It wouldn't make him go back.

It had been a long time since he'd had a war of words with Alicia. It was exhilarating but it honestly wore the shite out of him. He was too old to snark and bicker like that. At least without the proper release that went with it afterward.

It had been an unremarkable day for sales, that Monday, but some days were like that. Fans were either too hungover still or too involved with their personal lives after the week-end to make it a high sales day. With the shop quiet, he'd spent the afternoon rearranging the front display. Oliver had debated on if he should leave Alicia's Quidditch card on the counter or not. He'd found her rookie Chaser card, and had it on display but thought better of it. It would only pad her ego and that was the last thing Spinnet needed. At least by him.

The lights along High Street 'popped' on and it was almost time to close up. Maybe she changed her mind. Or... Oliver forced himself not to think the worst, or if she'd been hurt. This was the trouble with having Alicia close again. He worried.

Alicia had planned on taking a nap before visiting Wood. She was typically in a better mood immediately following sleep. However, things rarely went as planned for Alicia and here she was, walking through Hogsmeade running off of only five hours of sleep for the last 48 hours. Of course, she had stayed awake for longer thanks to the aid of one of her best friends, sugar. But when you were meeting up with your ex, you wanted to be at your best and that little amount of sleep didn't get her even close to her best.

Alicia hadn't put much effort into her looks for the evening either. Her hair was slightly messy, as usual and she wore her typical outfit of worn out jeans and an old t-shirt that was torn up a bit too much and entirely too large for her frame. To top off her spectacular ensemble, she had on sunglasses. She had put them on earlier to protect her hangover from getting worse, but now that it was dark outside, she had practically forgotten she was still wearing them. At least he couldn't accuse her of dressing up to try to win him back or some shite.

She reached the front of his store at what she could only imagine was just about seven. She had always had a knack for showing up at the last possible second without actually being late. It was like a gift. The outside of the shop looked nice. She couldn't help but shake her head though. She just didn't understand why he'd give everything up for...this.

She opened the door and took a step in, letting the door close behind her. Why the hell was his store so dark inside? Weird. "Oi!" she shouted. "Your favourite person's here!"

Moving some boxes to the back, he'd already dimmed the lights in the front of the shop. Oliver sighed, feeling some relief at hearing Alicia call out, her voice ringing just seconds after the little bell above the door.

"Be right out," he shouted back and tossed a bunch of knee and elbow pads back into the crate they'd been packed. The store room was a mess but that was where he actually worked. She really doesn't need to see this back here.

Running his hand through his short hair, he made his way back out front and chuckled, almost forgetting that he'd left it dark. Oliver nearly pounced on her, calling Lumos to bring the lights back up. He grinned, almost from ear to ear. "Sunglasses at night? Are you incognito? Running from Aurors?" Before she had a chance to respond, or fight back, Oliver wrapped his arms tightly around Alicia, pinning her own arms to her sides as he all but picked her up off her feet and hugged her.

He put her back down before she got the idea to start kicking. "This is how we should have met the other day. When decent people are normally awake." Oliver almost smirked. "And fully dressed." He paused again, staring down at her. "How ya' been, Spinnet? Honest. It's just you and me now." His last statement implied more than either of them could explain.

Alicia took a few more steps inside and looked around the store after he shouted back to her. Of course, it being fairly dark (both the light's fault and her sunglasses) didn't give her much to look at. As she took a step, she tripped over something, barely catching herself from completely face planting. "The fuck?" she muttered to herself, turning around to try to see what she had hit.

It was then that Wood attacked her. Well, not really attacked, but fuck, he scared the shite out of her. She automatically tensed up as he pinned her arms down with his overly smothering hug. She was torn between the gut reaction of fighting the crazy person off of her, and the familiar reaction of planting a kiss on him. Fuck. This was going to be harder than she thought. Instead, she just stayed awkwardly tense until he released her. Was he smiling at her? Hadn't they just been arguing a few hours earlier by parchment? Alicia was beginning to suspect that Wood was crazier than she was. Or that he wasn't nearly as sure about what he wanted as he pretended to be.

At the mention of her sunglasses, she reached up to them, having completely forgot she still had them on. She pushed them up onto the top of her head, feeling like an idiot for still having them on. "Forgot they were there I guess. Everything is certainly much brighter now," she said with a small smile.

"It's boring when people are awake. Even moreso when they're fully dressed," she said with a shrug. She really didn't feel guilty about the other morning. If she hadn't showed up the way she had, she wasn't so sure that Oliver and Katie would have told her about their situation right off the bat. And it was definitely better to be in the know. She reached up and scratched the back of her head, still slightly put off by his general cheeryness towards her. "I..erm....been fine," she said, forcing a smile. "Nice shop! Show me around?" she asked with genuine interest, hoping to change the subject as quickly as possible.

Was she nervous or was it just him? The situation was definitely awkward but until they made their way beyond it, it would never be like it used to. If it even can be. Oliver grabbed Alicia's hand, twining their fingers together before he realised what he was doing. He dropped it just as quickly and moved to the middle of the shop, hoping she would follow him.

"Just playing? Nothing else to keep you busy?" His idle conversation was inane but they had to talk about something, right? He pointed around the shop, feeling remarkably less enthusiastic about his endeavor now that Spinnet was here to judge him. Why did her opinion even matter to him? She had made herself perfectly, and colourfully, clear the other morning. And she wasn't the only one suggesting he was throwing his life away. Quidditch Weekly had owled again, wanting an exclusive interview about his retirement.

"There's the kits, pads, quaffles. Commemorative snitches..." Yeah, he was rambling on. Oliver pointed above them on the wall. "Any kind of broom you want to try, new or used. I do the modifications and repairs myself." There was pride in his voice but he was clearly waiting for her censure. It was odd, and nearly impossible, for Alicia to stay quiet this long. "So go on. Out with it. Get it all off your chest before you explode."

Alicia smiled when he took her hand. It was so...comfortable. She had missed this. She had missed his skin and his touch and his stupid face. However, it was all over faster than it had started. He let go and her hand fell back to her side, empty and cold and missing his. She took a moment to mourn the loss before following him as he walked.

"Just playing," she said in response. "And being awesome, of course." And it was pretty much true. She spent most of her life playing quidditch. The rest of the time, she was either drinking or sleeping. Nothing much to really report on. Although, saying this out loud made her realize how just how sad it all kind of was. At least when she was with Oliver she had had him to come home. Now there was no one there to even care of she came home at all.

She followed Oliver as he showed her the store. It was really nice and he was clearly doing a fantastic job. He sounded so proud . Maybe running this store would actually be good for him. Despite the fact that Alicia still thought he was better suited to play professionally. She gave a small laugh when he talked about her exploding. "I don't yell about everything, ya git," she said with a small smile. "The store is really lovely. You've done a fantastic job. And you know, I was actually considering getting a new broom," she said as she looked at the ones on the wall. Sure, her broom was just fine. But getting a new one was always exciting. And it meant she could stay around Oliver longer.

"I still think you're bloody fucking stupid for leaving, but if this makes you happy then.....that's that, I guess," she said with a shrug. Alicia wasn't sure why she was so calm on the exterior. inside, she was a mess. She wanted to rip his clothes off and shag him senseless on the counter but at the same time, she also wanted to pull out her wand and throw him across the room. And in between all of that, she kind of wanted to cry about Oliver and Katie.
