A fine story on so many levels: the pairing, which at first seems unexpected but then seems so self-evidently perfect (I nearly shouted, "Of course! Filch and Figg!" in the middle of my students' final exam); the tone, just so exactly right for the two of them; the come-uppance of Malfoy; the perceptive description of the physical and mental difficulties of Squibness; Mr T and Mrs N, the perfect familiars; and, of course, Argus's courtship expertise (one of my very favorite lines from the fest): "If it were a date, it'd be dress up. And toilet water. And me holdin' out yer chair. Ain't you ever been on a date?" Before Arabella could say 'yes' or 'no' or 'mind your own business', Mr Filch harrumped and slapped the table. "Next Friday. I'll show ye a date."
It's enough to make anyone break out their toilet water.
