Who: Gellert Grindelwald and Barty Crouch Jr.
What: First meeting, Gellert is recruiting
Where: Hyde Park, a communal meeting place.
When: August 20th, 3000
Status/Warnings: None and Closed but Incomplete.

Summary: Gellert meets up with Barty Crouch Jr. and explains to him what he wants done and what he's hoping to do. He's given out Barty a task and that task is to learn what he can of this new age, including muggle advances in technology and weapons. Barty agreed to join Gellert in his movement and they've both agreed to be honest with each other.

Gellert was making rounds; he had to meet all of his potential leaders and he was coming down to the wire. He'd met with Julian first and foremost and from him gained a list of names, Bellatrix, whom he'd already seen, Rabastan and Rodolphus Lestrange, who he had yet to find and Barty Crouch Jr., whom he was looking for now. He had to decide between Helga, Lord Voldemort and Crouch and he chose the latter for no particular reason, perhaps it was because he had to present a firm case to both Helga and Riddle in order to persuade them that they could fight for this together and in doing so be strong.

He'd sent an owl to Barty telling him to meet him at Hyde Park, it seemed to be a communal meeting ground thus far and it was a pleasantly warm day outside with very few people walking around. Gellert had trailed around the park once or twice already, his eyes peeled open for a man who would look just as suspicious as he did all alone and seemingly without a purpose. Gellert though looked truly out of place for he'd not quite taken to dressing as the residents of the area had, he was still in his old fashion coat with tails and calf high boots. He certainly looked like a mad man except for the fact that he was quite sane. He seemed to have jumped out of a Shakespearean play.

Gellert settled onto a bench casually an waited for any possible suspects to come his way. The waiting game was fine if rather irritating, that was why he'd normally come up when they least expected it but sometimes one had to step out of their comfort zones and make the effort themselves and that's what he was doing here.

This was just simply not the sort of thing Barty was used to. He wanted to meet with Gellert very much, but being so exposed made him feel weary. He dressed as casually as he could, but he knew he would likely look horribly hot, or just too dressed for a walk in the park. But that was how he was comfortable. He wore a dinner jacket and a dress shirt, with pants that were the exact match for his jacket. He placed his wand in his inside pocket and walked to where the charms on his home had ended. He wasn't going to apparate, mostly because he was in muggle London and that wouldn't be smart. He knew what they felt towards him and his kind, and quite frankly it wouldn't be healthy for him.

He walked slowly to Hyde Park. He knew men and women would likely be there all day. Taking their children to play and do other 'normal' things. That wasn't something Barty liked. He didn't like normalcy. It took him awhile, but he had made it after a few minutes. It was quite what he had expected. People playing and pretending nothing more was going to happen on that very day. And nothing likely would. Everyone seemed so wrapped up in other things that they simply weren't paying him any attention. It was time that Barty began to search.

It didn't take long to notice a man who seemed out of place, much like himself. It was a different sort of out of place, but he could handle that. He was able to handle anything, at least in his mind, so he walked slowly over to the man, "Hello. You are Gellert, yeah? I'm Barty, or Bartemius. I prefer Barty, but I'll accept any name you choose." he extended his hand to the man and smiled brightly. It was nice to finally put a face to the writing.

Gellert looked up pleasantly when the voice came out of nowhere and immediately pushed himself to his feet, that brilliant charming smile rising to his features at once. He too extended his hand eagerly and very firmly took Barty's for a friendly shake, "Fantastic," he said enthusiastically and finally let the young man's hand go. "And yes, I am Gellert and I am greatly pleased to have the chance to meet you Master Crouch, I've heard things, spectacular things from our communal friends," he said and gestured for Barty to walk with him. Gellert fell into place beside the man and also settled into a brief silence while thinking of a way to come round to their needed discussion. "A Russian friend of mine recommended your name and I was very pleased when you expressed an interest in what I had to say," he started out with, going for the same angle he'd used with Bellatrix.

"I've spoken to a fair few of your friends and am here to present my case to you and hopefully.. hopefully part ways with an ally," he said truthfully and looked around the park, noting the way people went about their business... It was so much of a routine, such a beaten path and so dull. Nothing happened, no one remarked upon anything and even the childish laughter seemed fake or even partly numb. Gellert frowned and looked sideways at Barty, his pale brows raising a fraction in his silent muse. "When you look at these people what do you see?" he questioned, "that child there," he gestured to one playing close to its mother. "What do you think of while you watch him play?"

It was a genuine question and he was very curious as to what this man would say because it would indeed say a lot. Gellert saw no threat from the child but that child would also one day become a man, maybe it had a fear for magic already or maybe he loved it.. Maybe he wanted to be a wizard or maybe he wanted to kill them all one day. Whatever the cause, whatever the reason... It would all change one day. Whether change would be good or bad would depend upon individual perception.

Barty walked beside Gellert. Russian friend must have been Julian, because Bellatrix certainly wasn't Russian. So, without much of a thought, he nodded and began, "Yes. I am far more interested in a man who has one personality than a man with two. There is much we need to do with this world, and I think you may be the man to do it." The whole park was going about their business. Not noticing two men who were entirely out of place. It was a nice change. He was used to people glaring at him, mostly because he walked out of what seemed to be nowhere. The man who lived somewhere near there but nobody knew where. This was a place where he wasn't known as odd, so people not paying attention made his mood lighten quite a bit.

Barty stared at the child. The child seemed what all children were, completely oblivious to life and yet, there was much potential. "I think that the child has potential to either do great good, or great evil. He has the means, of course, because the world of humans is always so plagued with fighting. He could be one of those who choose to seek people such as we are and kill us. But there's also a chance he won't be. I'd like to believe that the reason they fear us is because they don't understand. At the same time, though, it's sort of hard to believe that way when you see what happens in this world. It's a world full of anger and hatred."

Barty was thinking rather hard on the question, even though he had answered it. It wasn't like it was the question that was hard, it was more like the reason behind the asking. It didn't make sense to him, but he knew that somehow it was relevant. It had to be, or it likely wouldn't have been mentioned. "All of these humans are likely clueless to what we are. That's why we're going unnoticed. However, if it were to come out, they'd likely all want us dead. Mostly because we have powers they could only wish of."

A man with two-...two souls? Hrm, that was curious. Bellatrix hadn't mentioned that, well not openly. What had she said? Riddle and Voldemort? Were they two separate entities? That was very curious indeed, he'd have to talk to her about that... And here he'd thought they were being completely honest with each other the other night. But oh well, there wasn't anything that he could do about it just then and so he set it aside for later consideration and a form of discussion for his next meeting with Bellatrix. Right now though his main focus was Barty. Gellert listened with an eager patience while the man made his answer and a smile flitted across his face upon hearing it, he nodded his head in mild agreement and canted his head to the side.

"I don't think they desire our powers, but I do admit that I may be mistaken but the reason for saying is that for all of their advances in technology they certainly haven't discovered a means to harness our power or.. strip us of it other than this.. broken and beaten down way of living. And I quite agree with you that they don't understand it and that fear leads them to destroy us..or want to destroy us," he said grimly and frowned again. "I asked out of curiosity and merely to see if we're on the same page of our thinking.. because this revolution.. this war... it will encompass everyone and everything inside of this world and it is necessary to understand that our actions will not gain acceptance by these muggles... that child, whether or not he fears us now, will hate us in the future and we will face opposition by the muggles at every corner for the next ten generations."

Gellert exhaled a heavy breath and looked at Barty in curiosity, "Are you prepared for that?" he asked mildly, "I ask because it is necessary not because I doubt you, in fact I have rather a lot of faith in you." He reassured him and smiled again. "And this I asked everyone.. what does the greater good mean to you? Why are you interested in this cause?"

Barty considered for a moment. He had expected something like this, a test of sorts that would likely lead him to either abandon his way of thinking, or change it entirely. Sure, they had much in the way of technology, but their knowledge of magic was likely limited. They likely had no idea what magic could truly do, or even what magic the world has yet to see. "You are right. They can't take away our powers, and I believe that that is what leads the fear. They can't do anything like we can, but they can do so with machinery and things that require alot of strength. They couldn't accept us, even without the war. As far as I am concerened, they are my enemy at the moment. And whether or not they dislike my ideals, it's not their choice to make." It wasn't exactly the best way to put his feelings into words, but that was how he felt.

Though he didn't want to admit it, a war wasn't what he wanted to deal with. However, deep down he knew it had to be done. He had that someone had to do something to rid them of the fear of stepping outside and being attacked by those with less power than he. "I am prepared. I'm fully ready to accept anything that comes my way. This is a cause I've lived with in both of my lives. The muggles are a nuisance. They are becoming problems by threatening our very way of life."

The greater good. That could mean alot of things, but a world without the fear of those people seemed the best way to put it. But it wasn't entirely true. "I feel that we, as wizards and witches, have been pushed aside in another world far too long. We deserve more than what we have now. We have a few streets in a few cities while muggles have this entire world. As far as it is in my mind, I think that the Greater Good is a world where we no longer have to hide behind this world, and take what's ours. We are powerful and they lack that power, why should they rule and keep us in shackles? I think it's about taking back this world, every bit of it, and keeping it as we want it to be."

Gellert smiled again, a rather proud look crossing his visage while he peered at Barty. That was what he wanted to hear, it was almost exactly what Julian had said and entirely what Gellert was aiming at. He beamed and reached out to clap Barty on his shoulder in a very friendly manner, "Exactly dear man, exactly," he agreed and grinned. "We have the power to guide our futures, we have the means and the will to regain what is rightfully ours we need only a method to get us there. A little bit of hope, a few good people to lead us into a new world.. a world entirely of our devising.. our control. Can you see that? Can you imagine it? A world where we will not be afraid to step out of our doors or take a walk in the park to show our children how to make butterflies out of flowers.. I can see it, I yearn for it and that, dear Barty, is why I came to you.. to Bellatrix.. Julian .. because I need people to aid in this revolution. Because we all share the same ideas and together we are stronger and... well together we can change the world. As I've said to the others, a man can rule the world but he needs his friends to help him do it."

He paused in that lengthy passionate monologue and exhaled a heavy content breath. "And so the truth behind my meeting you is that I am looking for leaders that will take charge of others and carry out tasks of our devising... and as a group work for the one goal. Each of you thus far that I've sought out are good for a different purpose and each of you can and will be an asset to this cause. You all have your strengths and yes.. weaknesses but inside of that it makes you perfect for any given task that suits your skills," he said and paused his steps, reaching out a hand to stop Barty and urge him to face him fully. "I want you on my team, I want you as a friend and an ally and I want you to stand with me in this journey and be daring enough.. bold enough and brave enough once more to fight for a world that we deserve where we will not have to meet in secret or pretend to be what we are not. I want you stand with me and defend our brothers and sisters and give the generation of our kind a proper place to live."

Grindelwald peered straight into Barty's eyes with all honesty and truth showing in his own. He was passionate and determined to succeed in this cause and with these people and the wizarding world at his side they would do it. They would fight for it and they would win because they had the will for it, the means for it and now a leader for it.

"We can do this together."

For the first time in such a long time, someone understood Barty. He smiled very brightly to Gellert. He was so passionate about doing whatever it took to gain them what was theirs, he could hardly help but feel completely enticed by the idea. "You are very correct. Alot of leaders take the whole of commanding everything on themselves and fail. It happened in my former life, and it would have happened had I remained on that path. I envy your enthusiasm," considering before answering, Barty had a complete reply, "I'll be your friend and ally. The only thing I wish is that you hold no secrets. It sounds trivial, but much of my problems with loyalty in this life has stemmed from that. I enjoy honesty, and I will give you the same. I want to feel as though your intent will be known without any tedious lies."

Barty was intrigued by the words. They were so well thought out and spoken eloquently. But jobs was what it sounded like. Sure, he did need a meaning, but he'd certainly have to know what he'd have to do. "I agree, but I must implore you for more. What sort of things will you have me do? I'll be certain to follow instructions, but you must understand that going into anything blindly won't happen. I've had my problems, but I just feel that to better work as a unit, we need to know what we'll be heading into. I don't like to assume you'd keep things hidden, nor would I think you would, it's just something that I feel is needed."

The together part made him feel a bit more at ease. He wasn't ever apart of anything before. He was always just a slave and was used for someone else's gain and not his own. He only doubted the way things would be afterwards.

"Yes, I believe we can."

"I appreciate that you express your concerns, it's the type of thing I want to hear because I'd hate for you to mistrust me or believe that our plans aren't in your best interest.. don't be afraid to tell me. As it is I see no point in lying, not if what we're doing depends on absolute and utter fantastic communication. I have never been afraid to share my plans because if one believes themselves clever enough to thwart them then I invite the challenge," he assured him and gestured for them to start walking again because he could never sit still once he'd become eager and enthusiastic about his ideas. It just wasn't possible.

"I understand well your request and so I tell you that I have heard many things about your love and deep sense of knowledge, you must be the scholarly type and so my first task for you and you alone unless you require the aid is to learn what you can of these muggles and whatever technology they have to use against us, I don't expect it to be learned within a week or even a month, just press here and there and learn what you can. Also, I need a voice to slip into the wizarding community and slowly start to spread word of what we're doing, not yet though as we aren't prepared enough for people to take us seriously.. But soon," he said and smiled at him.

"As for the whole, in the beginning we are just observing and learning and eventually we are going to infiltrate the muggle government. But for now we are simply looking for allies to make ourselves stronger and more prepared, so friends you know of, please inform them of what you've learned and be the guiding voice for them in this cause when I can't meet them myself." He suggested. This was it, these were the type of people he'd been looking for, people willing to take the risk and give themselves up and all for greater good. All for the same purpose. Gellert beamed and canted his head to the side, "I have a message for you to pass on to others as well, it'll be hard for our kind to accomplish from the animosity that we face from the muggles.. but I don't want us to hurt them yet, inform people not to agitate the muggles or give them anymore reason to harm us. We will begin that in earnest when we have enough support.. staged attacks and the like, we won't be a mindless rabble causing chaos. It'll be uniformed and organized enough to strike fear in their hearts and make them take us seriously."

"Well, you have a point. If you have the intelligence on your side, it will be very hard for anyone to dismantle them. I've learned that being intelligent can get you things you want, but at the same time, you must know how to be strong. I wasn't ever the brains behind operations, but I can do them quite well. My past would speak for itself, but the whole losing my soul sort of ruined that," Barty didn't want to lie, either. He needed to be as honest as he possibly could because it had to happen. He wasn't the sort of man who held details from anyone, and he wasn't about to start now. The revolution was what he wanted, and he was going to do his best to aid those who believed as he did.

There was an obvious shock on his face when he heard that he was asking questions that would be answered. He wasn't used to that. He was used to following people who told him nothing of what was going to happen, "I thank you. I've been doing what I can to learn, but I'm going back to my old Manor and see if I can't find anymore books that may help. I'm learning things better than I thought I would, but at the same time, it's hard to know of new technology without the books that have that in it. The things I've read so far have been terrifying, but at the same time, we can do that with magic, as well. So if it came down to it, as long as it hasn't advanced too far, I'm sure we'll be alright. I can send you the things I've written down by owl if you'd like," Barty had only learned of old war strategies, but he was sure they would be important.

"I feel that that would be our best option. There's much we don't know about how they are formed and what they do, but how are we to do that? I mean, I understand watching but is this something that requires magic or skill? Either way sounds fine, but I'd just like to know what to do. I mean, I can imperius alright as long as they can't fight it. I did that with my father and he was fighting it towards the end. I am gifted at magic, so it's not a problem, you understand."

Gellert listened in silence and nodded his head in agreement a few times while patiently waiting for Barty to finish and when he did Gellert smiled very broadly at him, "I knew that I could count on you," he said eagerly and grinned, "and yes that would be very fantastic to send what you have to me and also perhaps a copy to Julian as a record keeper. Perhaps it would be wise for you to find time to go over the information with Bellatrix?" he suggested then paused on that thought, rewinding it for a moment and canting his head to the side. "Oh better yet, save it and we will all come together in two weeks time to discuss what it is we know? Would that be preferable to a singular sharing of knowledge? I think it would be so that this way we are all on the same page so to speak." Yes, a group meeting would be best and probably the wisest decision, this way they would all be in the know and each could learn who the others were in case Gellert managed to shanghai others into this that were outside of this circle of friends.

"And yes, this spying game in the beginning does require skill because we do not want to get caught right from the start. We need to be subtle in our actions, let them go on about their ways while we slowly tighten the noose and once they discover that the hangman is coming down... well then it'll be too late to react. I fear there will be a war... people do not earn freedom by wishing for it. I don't want to shed more of our magical blood than we have to... and know this.. if this revolution means that I must die then gladly would I do so. I have great faith that you brilliant thinkers will continue with the cause and in the event of my death continue with it and be all the stronger for the loss."

He fell silent after that and briefly considered his next statement before saying it, "I think if you find someone worthy of imperiusing then you should do it, but only if you can glean information from them that would aid us, if you're in doubt then by all means ask me before doing so and just watch them until a response can be sent. We're looking for this muggle military and government officials, people in high places.. unless.. well the middle man might be more beneficial but we'll decide that when we come together. As for now if I haven't bogged you down with enough requests, if there is any strategy that comes to mind I would like for you to think on it and be prepared to share it when next we meet, I'll ask this of the others as well so that we may have plenty of things to discuss."
