Who: Eileen Prince and Tobias Snape
What: Um, dinner?
Where: A restaurant
When: Nighttime, August 18th 3000
Status/Warnings: Started; incomplete and we'll give it PG for mild language use.

He had no bloody idea what the hell inspired him to ask her out for dinner. There was no reason to justify it or any cause to warrant such an action and yet... and yet this foolish man had gone ahead and done so anyway and now he couldn't very well back out of it while waiting with a growing impatience outside of the damned restaurant. She'd said she'd come.. but if she was late, and he half hoped she was, then he'd gladly ditch and say she never showed up as an excuse for leaving.

Tobias sighed heavily and brushed a hand through his somewhat rumpled hair, his frustration gaining on him after each passing minute that she kept him waiting. He was having a time talking himself down and out of this pissed off mood. Damn the woman for being so bloody.. feminine! Didn't they always take longer than expected to get ready for any sort of occasion? He should have given her a thirty minute delay to the time, then maybe she'd show up when she was supposed to and not keep him waiting beyond the allotted five minute period. The man hissed a curse under his breath and turned away scathingly, glaring his anger up at the damned building looming over him.

He'd never eaten here before and he half expected that it was expensive.. which did nothing to help assuage his current mood but he'd be damned if he treated the woman to some trashy place. Not when there had to be some sort of unidentified-as-of-yet-reason-for-asking-her-out-in-the-first-place.

She'd spent all day trying to find the perfect shade of blue to wear, after finding a dress, she spent some time looking over magazines she bough to spruce herself up a little.

It was the first time in a long time that Eileen had been excited to see him, like a school girl. She squealed at the thought.

She found a nice blue dress with short sleeves, a slightly low collar that form-fitted to her small curves to her knees. She matched it up with black somewhat-nude pantihose and black soft-suede boots. Eileen also fixed her long black hair into straight, perfected braids on each side with some of her layers hair hanging on the sides of her face. When she was sure that she looked nice, she left her small flat and ran in the direction of the restaurant; she was running late.

Just as she saw him, she paused to catch her breath and fix herself until she was closer enough to wrap her arm around his,"Hey.." She whispered.

"Jesus Christ," Tobias hissed under his breath when Eileen snuck up on him out of nowhere. He turned a little to look at her up and down, a sort of cross look touching his features for her being late before he forced it away. Alright, he could let it go this time, right? Well he had better damned well do it else she'd run away crying again and likely get her arse locked up in that damned jail. Stupid bastards.

Tobias exhaled a sharp heavy breath and summoned the faintest of forced smiles, his eyes once again scanning her womanly frame and taking in all its splendor. She looked... well she looked alright. Fine, really. Tobias swallowed down an odd lump in his throat and shrugged a shoulder, "You look," he started and struggled to find the right words for the compliment, "bea--uh.. nice," he finished awkwardly and a little sheepishly. Feeling weird and rather out of place Tobias gestured at the building and sort of jerked his head in the same direction, "Well, we've got a reservation so.." he shrugged again and decided to continue with deeds rather than words.

With her arm still around his he stepped forward and opened the door for her and for the first time politely let her in before he followed after, giving his name to the host who really just sort of stared before leading them to their table.

Eileen's heart pounded, he was treating her like she mattered. His long arm wrapping around her shoulders and gestured for her to go forward. Eileen went forward, walking into the restaurant, she turned pink when he opened the door for her; treating her like a lady. Slowly, her hand crept up his back and gently stroked his spine, leaning into him lovingly.

"Oh, Tobias, this was so nice of you...you..." Overwhelmed with happiness, she leaned forward and pressed a kiss against his cheek before they got to her table. She was expecting much else, so she pulled the chair out for herself and set down in the seat, then pulled herself forward. A smile finally appeared on her usually sullen face.

"Eh.. yeah," he agreed mildly and awkwardly took his own seat after she'd taken her's. He reached up to sort of scratch at his head briefly and flushed an odd pink shade, uncertain about what to say or how to behave or.. or any of those things that people normally did while taking their wife out to dinner.. or even just a girl in general. He felt like he was fifteen again and that, well that just wouldn't do. Tobias cleared his throat awkwardly and brushed back his hair, "So.. uh.. how--how've you been?" he questioned with as much interest as he could summon which as more than he thought he would gather but not nearly far enough.

He glanced up quickly when he noticed the host still standing around, waiting for their drinks. He was half tempted to order a bottle of wine if only to see that look in her eyes brighten but he lacked the funds for it and a nice meal at the same time, so he settled, "A water, please and an ale.. if you have any, Eileen?" he questioned mildly and waited.

She missed this, missed him; the way he sat in his chair, looked embarrassed to talk to her and brushed his hair back. A part of her wanted to closely embrace him, but found it impossible to do from where they were. She knew Tobias' ways, the fact that he didn't order a drink made her sit prouder,"..C..Could I have some sweet iced tea, please?" She voiced.

She was glad that the waitress left after taking their drinks. She leaned her small hands forward and took both of his, holding them from across the table,"I've been...alright, working and the lot. What about you?" Eileen settled for her thumbs to stroke the top of his hands.

That was almost too much, the hand holding, and Tobias had to force himself not to retract his own from her's and besides.. Eileen's hands were so little and so soft and gentle.. they were very warm and kind. It reminded him of things from a very distant past and his early adulthood, when things weren't so rotten. Snape pulled himself from those thoughts immediately and mentally shook himself for that brief lapse into a time that no longer existed, it wouldn't do well to get all mopey and nostalgic in public like this.

Tobias cleared his throat and nodded at Eileen, giving her hand a brief and gentle reassurance in form of a slight squeeze. "I'm-" he paused and swallowed thickly, "I've been okay," he said lamely and sort of shrugged, "working too, looking for a place.. Sort of over stepping my welcome at Vernon's even if he doesn't say it. You know the feeling.. just like you're not... not wanted," he said awkwardly and looked away.

Eileen, at the moment, was happier than she'd ever been. She had a glow about her when she was with him, thinking that she preferred to jump across the table and kiss him, but she knew better. The brief, quick squeeze and she nodded to his answer,"I know the feeling..." She looked away as well, to the table. She pulled her palms away from his, thankful that the waitress came in time for her to mask her true unhappiness to realize that he might not want her still.

He was relieved when she let his hands go finally, that little thing was just such a queer moment.. Who honestly did that these days? Tobias scoffed softly and looked up at the waitress when she finally came back and just in time it seemed because he needed the quick drink of the acrid brew he'd ordered. He almost spit it out it was so bitter but managed to hold that and the disgusted look in well enough not to offend anyone.

He swallowed the drink down then cast his eyes around at his ex-wife, "Are you ready to order?" he asked uninterestedly then looked at their waitress. "Come back in five minutes, please," he said easily and sighed in relief when they were left alone again.

Eileen couldn't help but seem relieved when the waitress came and left for a second time. The first thought going through her head was that he wanted to leave, make her fee like an idiot but she was probably wrong. "You can pick for me, just nothing that is too disgusting please.." Eileen leaned back into her chair with her blue gaze settled on him.

"Do you not want to do this?"

Tobias ordered their food, something native to their location and indeed, England. Once the waitress was gone again Snape eyed his ex-wife and tried not to be irritated at her for her last callous remark. "What in the world makes you think that Eileen?" he snapped with a little bit of a harsh edge to his voice. "I asked you here politely, we're here now and I've just ordered food that I'll have to pay for whether or not you choose to eat it, what in the world makes you think that I don't want to do this while we're bloody doing it?" he hissed and shook his head.

"Christ, stop being so thick, you have these moments.. you're brilliant and I can love being around you but you ruin it with your careless remarks." He said darkly and sat back in his chair, reaching out to take a drink of his customary glass of water as if it were the alcohol he was missing.

Eileen couldn't help but frown,"Sometimes when you look at me, I feel insecure about how you are feeling and like I'm just annoying you. I ..." She cut herself off, figuring that nothing more of what she said was important enough to mention. Eileen reached her hand forward for the same water and leaned back, taking a sip of it before resting it on the table again.

Man, she fucked it up. Maybe she was the reason that their marriage didn't work out, it was his beating or berating or snapping and everything. Eileen was now convinced that the entire reason she'd been treated so poorly was because of herself.

Tobias deserved better.

Eileen's eyes were welling up, her breath was a little laboured to hold it back. When she was calm, she raised only her eyes to him.

"Well I'm not going to lie," he said easily and eyed her darkly, "You do annoy me, but only when you're being dumb. You don't think before you speak and it makes you look like an imbecile, but enough of it. I'm not here to tell you all the things I hate about you, I asked you to dinner for the express purpose of enjoying ourselves so push it out of your brain for now, Eileen and stop pouting," he said in a resigned tone then leaned forward to reach out and take her hand into his.

"Don't you dare start crying," he muttered under his breath and narrowed his eyes a fraction, "no reason for it alright? Just enjoy yourself, we haven't done this in ages."

Hell, if they couldn't survive one night without arguing there was no chance in hell they could survive a second marriage or even less than with an informal living together.. he didn't say anything of the sort to Eileen though but it was there on the forethought of his mind.

Eileen felt deservant of Tobias' harsh words than only made her feel worse, she realized that she needed to hide how she felt to keep him from being upset. While Eileen was absorbed in feeling like she was making things even more awful for him, his hand reached out and took hers, holding it. By the time she realized he did that, her blue eyes caught the gesture, her thumb moving over his hand a little as she caressed it.

It was so difficult to push her insecurities out of her mind, she focused on Tobias and managed only part of a smile for him. "Alright, Tobias, I'm sorry."
