After Transfiguration [backdated to lunchtime]
"Miss Puckle, would you please see me?" Minerva called over the general cacophony that resulted when the bell signalled the end of classes. It was to be expected, since this Transfiguration lesson immediately preceded lunch. Only a fool would come between a teenaged boy and his stomach. Fortunately for her, however, Miss Puckle was decidedly not a boy, and her schedule was free for the remainder of the afternoon, so her hunger could wait a few minutes.

Hermione had still been seated when she heard Professor McGonagall call her name. She quickly finished jotting down her notes and began packing up her belongings. The last few sentences on her parchment were a tad sloppier than usual, but she would rather rewrite her notes later than make a teacher wait longer than was necessary.

"You wanted to see me, Professor?" She asked when she reached the front of the room.

"Yes, Miss Puckle," Minerva said crisply, when the girl reached the front of the classroom. She took a deep breath, hoping her nostrils weren't going white -- a telltale sign that she was angry. It was a conscious battle to remind herself not to be too hard on Miss Puckle just yet. After all, she had no proof at the present time, though she fully expected to shortly. "May I see your Legens, please?"

Hermione was more than a little surprised by this request. She hadn't really had time to consider why Professor McGonagall wanted to speak with her, but the list of possibilities that had popped into her head had not included borrowing her Legens. "Of course, Professor," Hermione said as she reached into her knapsack to retrieve the book. Her heart started beating faster as she handed over her Legens. She didn't have anything to hide, at least not anything another person could read in her Legens, but she couldn't help feeling there was something she was missing.

Minerva took the book with a curt nod and flipped to the Matchmaker's first entry. After setting the Legens down on her desk, open to that page, she pulled her wand. "Specialis Revelio," she said, tapping the page. Immediately, the anonymous comments shimmered and the next second, the block printing had transformed into Miss Puckle's handwriting. Since the Matchmaker had made many more enemies than friends, luckily for Miss Puckle, this spell would only reveal her identity in this particular book, and only for as long as Minerva kept up the spell. "Would you care to explain what, precisely, you were thinking?" she asked the girl, pressing her lips together into a thin line, once she'd finished speaking.

Hermione frowned slightly as she saw the entry that Professor McGonagall had been looking at. She couldn't believe someone had had the nerve to write something so awful. Well, actually, she could believe it. That didn't make it any better though. As she watched the writing on the page change, Hermione felt a sinking feeling in her stomach.

"I-" Hermione started shakily. "I know how this looks, but I didn't write that. I would never... Someone must have stolen my Legens or..." Hermione realized how much sense that explanation made as she said it, but she couldn't think of another one at the moment. Not for the first time, she found herself wishing she was home. The Professor McGonagall of her time would understand that she wasn't the type of student who would act this way.

Now Minerva could feel her nostrils whitening as she inhaled. Stolen her Legens? What a pitiful excuse. "And I suppose after this person stole your Legens, he or she forged this entry in your handwriting, and then -- to top it all off -- charmed the entry to be anonymous, as well?" She narrowed her eyes at the girl, and tapped the book again with her wand. The writing shimmered once more and transformed back into anonymous block printing. "For this outrageous behaviour, Miss Puckle, you will serve a week's worth of detentions, and you may count yourself lucky that I have decided not to reveal your identity to the school at large. A Legens is meant to be an amusing hobby, not a means of sewing the seeds of strife amongst your peers."

[OOC: *winces* Sorry about that, but McG would definintely lay the smack down. :-( But at least Hermione doesn't have to play the detentions out? *g*]
