Dumbledore'd Office [open to Padma]
Albus was just finishing the letter to the Minister of Magic when the clock struck the hour, and he looked up, dabbing the ink dry. Fawkes gave a low, mournful hoot from his perch. "I am certain she will be here soon enough," he assured the bird, folding the parchment and reaching for his candle to seal the letter.

"Would you take this to Millicent Bagnold, please?" he asked the phoenix, holding up the newly sealed letter. "And wait for a reply." Fawkes swooped down from his perch to land lightly on the desk, and clamped his beak around the parchment before he disappeared in a puff of smoke. Coughing slightly, Albus fanned the smoke away from his face. "I really must say something to him about that," he muttered, smiling and shaking his head.

He had shown the gargoyle outside his office a picture of Miss Patil, knowing it would open for her as soon as she approached. At some point, he would have to explain his password system to her, but this temporary measure would work well enough for today.

Take Two!

At two o'clock, Parvati was approaching the stairs reviewing a mental list of every kind of candy she could think of that might be the password. She was concerned that she'd be late because the password was some kind of 30 year old candy that she wasn't familiar with, so she was very relieved to find that the passageway opened as soon as she appeared.

She climbed the winding stairs and sighed to herself as she reached the atrium. She knew why she was here, although she hadn't really expected Crabbe to run to Dumbledore. When she thought about it, running to a teacher wasn't really his style. She would have much more expected a confrontation with Malfoy in a deserted corridor than being called to Dumbledore's office. Although, she couldn't recall seeing Crabbe with Malfoy as much as usual lately. Apparently everyone was having trouble adjusting, and it wasn't just her.

She straightened her robes and knocked politely on the door to the inner office calling, "Professor Dumbledore, It's Parvati Pawar sir."

"Come in," Albus called, already affixing a benign smile on his features, to hopefully put the girl at ease. He imagined that being summoned to the Headmaster's office was never easy. Before the door opened, he waved his wand to remove the charm on the gargoyle, so that no one with a talent for producing Polyjuice Potion could gain entrance. Then he set down his wand and folded his hands in front of him on the desk, still smiling.

[OOC: Sorry this took so long. I'm just now getting to the point that I can think straight again. :-( Stupid asthma/chest cold.]

Parvati entered the room, and was somewhat reassured to see Professor Dumbledore smiling at her. She honestly hadn't been sure what sort of response to expect from him once she'd gotten over the surprise of being summoned in the first place. She looked around the office, surprised at how much looked so similar to her own time, and finally took a seat in the chair in front of his desk.

"Good afternoon, Miss Pawar," Albus said quietly, still smiling. "How have you been feeling?" The girl certainly looked a great deal better than she had the last time he'd seen her. Then again, he imagine anyone who had collapsed from the stress of learning he or she had travelled twenty-two years into past would hardly look his or her best. Still, her eyes were undoubtedly brighter and the circles under them had all but disappeared.

[OOC: And I have to apologize again for taking so long to reply. OMGsooooooobusy!]

"Much better Professor, thank you for asking. Although, starting back to classes has been a bit... strange... to say the least. I'm in classes with friends parents, with death eaters, with people who are de... with people I've heard of but never met." She began to relax a bit, perhaps the Headmaster had just asked her hear to inquire after her health.

[OOC: NP, and sorry about the delay on my response. I've been traveling for business.]

"Time Travel does tend to wreak havoc with one's sense of normalcy," Albus conceded, nodding with another smile. Though he was a bit curious as to which students were known Death Eaters in Miss Patil's time, he decided to keep that query to himself for the moment. He mustn't be too eager to condemn sixteen-year-olds for something they might or might not do in some nebulous, distant future. "I imagine you are wondering why I asked you here today?"

[OOC: Oh! Well, I don't feel so bad, then. :-)]

Parvati nodded politely to Professor Dumbledore's first question, and then sighed. "I don't suppose you just wanted to ask after my health?"

"I fear not," Albus replied, now frowning, but only slightly. "Mr Cragwitch contacted me to inform me that you have resumed threatening him and his parents. Is this true?"

She looked down at her hands, "I
suppose that might depend on your point of view, Sir." She gestured at the stack of books in her lap, we were having a conversation in the Legens that wasn't...... entirely polite. He brought up what happened in the Hospital Wing. He told me to stop posting in the Legens, but since it's a public network, I didn't."

She shrugged. "He told me he'd go to you, but I didn't honestly believe him, that's not his usual mode of operation. He's more the type to arrange to find you in a dark corner than to appeal to a teacher."

"I see," Albus answered, frowning more this time. "Be that as it may ... Mr Cragwitch perceives your words as a very real threat, and knowing what I know about Time Travel, I must say that I am inclined to agree. In a situation where merely saying the wrong word at the wrong time to the wrong person can vastly affect the outcome of events, any intimation that you might be willing to interfere with his parents carries inestimable weight."

[ooc: sorry, didn't realize i was up again, whups!]

"I see what you're saying Professor," she paused and took a deep breath before her next words came tumbling out. "But isn't that why we're here? Not to kill people I mean! But to 'interfere'"?

She waved her hands around vaguely gesturing to the room. "Where here to change something about this. I mean, YOU sent us here, after all. So as much as I want to listen to the you now, I also have to think about the future you." She paused again. "I'm sorry Professor, all this time travel business makes my head hurt."

"What I'm trying to say is. I'm listening to you know, and I trust you. But I also have to trust 'him'. I don't know exactly why he sent us here, or even how. But for him to somehow do it, he must have believed very strongly that there was something we could do here to, as you said, vastly affect the outcome of events."

She sighed, "I don't want to let you down sir, not either of you."

[OOC: No worries! I was about to check myself to make sure you hadn't replied and I just didn't get the notification, 'cause they've been a bit slow and/or flaky for the past few days. ;-)]

"Thank you, Miss Pawar," Albus said quietly, nodding. "I can only hope to earn your trust the way my future self has. And you are correct in that you are here to 'interfere,' in a manner of speaking. Having said that, however, the twelve of you have more than enough to be going on with, without having to be concerned with whether or not you will eventually be born. Would you not agree?"

Padma resisted the urge to argue and eventually nodded. "Yes Professor, we do have quite a few more important things to worry about."

She paused for a moment, and then started again, "Actually, that's a very good point Professor. For example we still don't know exactly why we're here, or how we got here. Now, obviously you don't know WHY the future you did this. But don't you have any idea HOW he did it? I mean it must be a very powerful spell, that can't be the kind of thing you just make up on the spot can it?"

"I fear that now I am very much in danger of losing your trust," Albus said, with a small smile. "I do have the merest inkling of why I sent the twelve of you here, but I do not have the first idea as to how. I have heard, of course, that in times of great stress even trained wizards are capable of wandless magic, so I suppose it could have been a spell along those lines. Apart from that supposition, however, I am at as much of a loss as the rest of you."

A look of puzzlement passed across Parvati's face. "But you think you know why? Do you just mean sort of a general 'big war, death, destruction' kind of why? Or more than that? Why the 12 of us? Why now?"

"More than in the sense of the big picture, as it were?" Albus asked, his eyebrows rising ever so slightly. "I believe so, yes. So far as I have been able to ascertain, the twelve of you have highly personal reasons for wanting to see things changed. Therefore, you are all highly motivated -- more so than if twelve random children had traversed time. I also imagine the reason I chose this time in particular, if I indeed did so consciously, because this is when things began to go awry, although I would not discount the possibility that the spell chose the time for me." Smiling again, he titled his head to the side, curiously. "Does that answer your question?"
