Hogwarts grounds [Padvati & Theodore]
Theodore closed the book with a snapping sound and looked mournfully out into the distance. As soon as the classes for the day were finished, the young man had sneaked out, claimed a small bench in a quiet corner as his own and occupied himself staring at the Forbidden Forest. And the thestrals that took flight every now and then.

Theodore shivered. 'The more things change,' he thought dryly and wrapped his scarf around his neck. 'The more they stay the same.'

Parvati had also escaped the castle as soon as she could get free from her housemates after classes. There was something about her dreams last night that was still troubling her, but she couldn't put her finger on it.

She was walking across, what she thought was an empty section of the grounds when she saw the Thestrals fly up from forest. She couldn't contain a gasp at the sight of the horrific creatures and she asked herself quietly, "What in Merlin's name are those things?"

"Thestrals." Theodore heard himself answer before his brain had a chance to catch up with his mouth. "Carnivorous horse-like creatures that can be seen only by those who have seen death," he elaborated, his inner Ravenclaw apparently taking charge for a change.

Only then did Theodore finally turn around. "Parvati." He greeted her with a slight inclination of his head. "I see they've let you out of the madhouse."

Surprised by the sound of his voice she crouched down and spun rapidly in his direction, wand drawn. Seeing Theodore, she stood up shakily, "Damnit Nott, don't DO that."

Shaking herself, she let out a sigh and walked over to collapse next to him on the bench. "Are those the things that pull the carriages? I heard Harry say something about that once, I think."

"Do what?" He asked, slightly annoyed at being called 'Nott' again. "Explain myself? Answer your questions?" Theodore shrugged and barely suppressed a pout.

"And yes, they are." He stared ahead moodily. "Damn ugly, eh?"

She rolled her eyes at him, "Yes, don't ever answer my questions, of COURSE that's what I meant."

She met his eyes then, "I think you know what I mean, I think you know very well."

She paused for a moment then, looking at him closely. "How are you doing? Have they given you any..... trouble?"

Theodore shrugged. "And I choose to ignore it."

He struggled to stay agry a little longer but found it to be a nuisance before long. "I'm fine," Theodore finally admitted and smiled self-consciously. "Did you know that there's more to Ravenclaws than just their fixation on knowledge? Some of them even have a sense of humour." He met Parvati's eyes, the smile fading. "No one's given me any trouble." Mostly because so far no one got past his protective spells.

Parvati found herself bristling at the comment about Ravenclaw's, although she wasn't sure why. "I've always liked Ravenclaw's."

She smiled then, "I'm glad you're doing ok. If they are leaving you alone, maybe their serious about wanting to all work together."

"I've always like hot chocolate and yet you won't see me praising its sense of humour." Theodore shrugged, curiously fine with the fact that they were sitting out in the blistering cold.

"Don't trust them, Parvati." He said quietly. "They'll work together as long as there's a solid gain in it for them. I wouldn't turn my back on them." Then again, he thought, that's how he worked, too.

Parvati nodded, "I don't TRUST them, but at some point I'm apparently going to have to at least pretend to make nice. I personally think Hermione's gone round the bend with her whole 'give them a chance' routine."

She sighed and tried very hard not to ball her hands into fists, "Do you ever feel like we're the only ones who remember how we got here? I mean, the sitting is innocent enough, but for all intents and purposes there's still a war on, we're just fighting it on a different battlefield."

"Good," Theodore nodded. Apparently Parvati was a bit more sensible than he'd given her credit for. She, at least, wasn't deceived by the Slytherins. Which included him.

"We haven't done too much fighting so far. Only moping about and complaining about our situation."

"I know! I hate it!" she slammed her hands on her lap for emphasis. "There has to be something we can DO. This affects all of us, and I don't know if I'm willing to just sit around and wait this time and see what Hermione or Harry thinks we should do!"

Ever so slowly a smirk appeared on Theodore's face. "Are you thinking what I am thinking?"

Because apparently she did. That it was time to stop playing this little game of 'Woe is me, I'm stuck in the past' and get to work.

Parvati swallowed a grin, and tried to look as if she was giving his statement serious thought.

"Well, I'd like to say that I am, but you ARE a teenage boy, so...."

To his credit, Theodore tried to stay serious. It was a useless endeavour, though and he burst into laughter.

"Well, that would be all right, too, of course," he grinned.

Parvati looked down and tried (and failed) not to blush, "I, uh, didn't mean, I was just, uh, kidding."

Still looking at her hands she said, "Do you really think there is something we COULD do?"
