2:49AM - Beta Request

I'm granting a wish on All-Fandom Gift Exchange for a Joe ficlet. Could I beg a beta who has a little time this week to poke my ficlet with a stick?

Thank you!

9:00PM - many recs!

I've posted this at my account on dreamwidth, but I thought that putting it here might be a good place to keep it, especially for future reference.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, I wanted to do a post with all the stories that, for one reason or another, I couldn't rec on crack_van this month. I love these stories, and feel so very sad that I couldn't rec them!
Touché by
Because it is Methos/Angel (HL/BtVS), and the whole bit about bullets makes me grin every time I read it. Mostly it had this terrible bittersweet feeling to it all the way through, but then I just go all the way back to the beginning of the story again and it is adventure once more! Also, how can one not want pretty men together? And, of course, it is on taterville, so I didn't feel I could rec it.
Mirror, Mirror by Beeej
How do I love this? Extremely. It is gorgeous. The introspection in this piece is so astute, so raw, that it can cut. But it also has this lovely softness to it, this healing warmth, that makes it work at the end, more as the love story it should be, rather than the regretful piece it could have been. Obviously I can't go rec'ing re-mixes of my own work. But Beeej got my original story so perfectly, that I always go and read this.
New Year's in Scotland by Merriman
I apologize for it being locked--I looked to see if it was posted somewhere accessible and it wasn't. I bet most of you already have access, though. It's such an old post, you might be hard pressed to know it was there. She wrote it based on a prompt I gave her--Methos/Connor (oh, I love this pairing!) with a jealous!Duncan. But Duncan doesn't stay jealous, he is far too noble for that. And this Methos/Connor are friends more than lovers, and not OTP. It is such a lovely way to tell a story--every time I go back to it there is something about it that I discover to like.
Fic by Carha
I don't think she gave it a title. Although it has a poem quote at the beginning, so perhaps it should be referred to as All Happiness. Connor/Methos again. Short, direct, lovely. Little snippets strung together. Written for me, again, in a fic exchange. But go and read it, anyway!
Aargh. This is a placeholder for a very short HL/Star Trek crossover where Methos and Worf talk about stuff. I just spent 2 hours looking for it, and I know I just reread it sometime this month.
ETA: Found it!!!
Untitled Methos and Worf ficlet by jmtorres (I knew it was by her, but I couldn't find the actual entry, and I'd misplaced my note to myself about how to find it!) The post is locked, but many of you may have access. Okay, I feel so much better now that I found it. I love this little ficlet because of the layers of wisdom embedded in it.
If Stones Could Sing by Sapphire (sapphiresmuse) Because Methos pulls one over on Duncan. And Joe is hilarious in this one. This one already has been rec'd, so I couldn't repeat it.
Seeing It Through by Princess Nat
Blinded Methos. Connor helps him! Plus, there is awesome Joe.
Yet another story that came about on a prompt by me.
There are a few more stories, but I am done searching out the links for them for the time being. This really, really points up why I love AO3. Search-able databases rock so hard.
6:32PM - rec: 'Till Death Do Us Part
Warning for character death!
This is a serious, but short, fic that's very introspective, and then...see the warning.
But it's solid, and good.
6:25PM - fic rec: Our Station by genteelrebel
Okay, upfront warning, this is Methos/Richie.
Who hasn't run away? *looks about*
Normally this isn't the pairing that I gravitate toward...normally this isn't a pairing I even want to think much about, really. But this is a short little story that does a really good job of making it sound like it could work. The attraction is originally coming from Richie, and we see his observations of the evening, with a good Richie-voice, and a Methos who is dealing with the heaviness of all those years of living.
If you can allow the Methos/Richie, then the tone of the story is definitely worth enjoying.
It can be found over at hlfiction.net, which is still a very good resource for Highlander stories.
This story is listed as being Mature Content.
11:33PM - rec: Owe You One by Helens
I was rereading this one and thought others might enjoy being reminded of it.
Title: Owe You One
Author: Helens
Link: Owe You One
Warnings: adult themes, but mostly gen
(From the author's summary) Summary: Nick Wolfe's having a bad day. Waking up blindfolded and chained to a wall is never a good thing. But when a guy named Adam comes into the picture, there's a little hope after all.
Why I like it: It's on the short side, so it is a fast read, but the characerizations are marvelous, and the banter is witty and smart-edged. A lot is alluded to, so the well-versed reader will grin to herself/himself, but the hints don't detract from the overall story itself for the general reader.
3:48PM - longest name fun
Man changes name to include Highlander (but then he dropped it later!)
Interesting that he chose Highlander rather than MacLeod. Hmmm.
4:45PM - HL references in pop culture (spoilers)
So, I was reading Evermore by Alyson Noel, which is one of those new fad supernatural teen romance series (in similar vein as the Twilight stuff). But instead of vampires, this one has immortals. Of course, its own brand of immortals, not much like those in HL save for the whole living forever thing. And right at the end there was a very sneaky, subtle HL reference.
Spoilers ahead.
It was on page 297 of my copy.
~~~

"Did I-kill her?" I ask, not quite sure how I feel a out that, despite what she did to my family, and all the times she claimed to have killed me.

He nods.

"But-how? I mean, if she's immortal, then wasn't I supposed to cut off her head?"

He shakes his head and laughs. "What kind of books are you reading?"

8:19PM - Farewell Geocities

Learned from my f-list (thank you, ever smart and ever vigilant f-list), Geocities is going bye-bye.
Info on that
and
From the Horse's mouth
and
one more for the heck of it

The thing about this is, lots and lots of old fanfic are held there. Some of them are sites that are ghost-town-like because their owners are gone for whatever reason. If you've got fanfic on a geocities site, please, grab it and save it. There are so many archives out there now that can be used.

And if you know of favorite stories on geocities sites that may vanish forever, now is the time to grab that stuff.

10:47PM

I don't know if anybody is interested, but I, [info]faile02, am starting up a Highlander RPG. I cut the banner, just in case the image was too big, but check it out! We're in need of a Duncan!

Read more... )

Duncan MacLeod has made one of the biggest mistakes in his 400 years.

Under the influence of the demon Ahriman, Duncan challenged his former student Richie Ryan – who barely escapes with his life. Now living in Europe with fellow Immortal Amanda, Richie builds himself a new life outside of Seacouver, outside of the training Duncan had given him.

Ten years pass. Duncan struggles to regain his former confidence, Methos once again reinvents himself, Richie and Amanda are playing house, and Joe starts contemplating retirement from the Watchers. But when a new threat brings everyone together, will Duncan and Richie put aside their differences to work together? Will new and old loyalties be tested?

But most importantly: Who lives, and who dies?

8:19PM - rec: A Lesson Learned by jinxed_wood

If you haven't seen this gem of a story yet, you need to go pronto over here: A Lesson Learned to read it. jinxed_wood creates a truly believable little lesson that definitely highlights the difficulties of teaching a new Immortal, and of being one. Beautifully done. And it has some great Joe insight, and a smirky Methos.

7:32PM - red: Nolo Contendere by Chris

I know you've probably all read this, since it is such a great story, but I thought a little Sunday night reminder might be in order. It's such a clever mix of wry and amusing, stark competitiveness, and a lot of hotness. Very slashy. DM/M. Of course, it also has quite a bit of Amanda in it, being the gorgeous schemer that she is. Plus, it has gorgeous visuals since it is set at a black & white ball (for charity of course) and everyone is dressed to the nines.

There's also a gorgeous little piece of manip artwork right at the end of the story.
