I Don’t Think I’m In Kansas Anymore (tag: Hel)
Anubis was in one of his moods. Some days what happened really bothered him. He knew it had all happened a very long time ago, but sometimes the sting of it was still there. He had been the ruler of the Underworld. Sure, he had been young, but he thought he had been doing a good job. All the dead were where they were suppose to be. Ammit was well taken care of, too. Everything was done right.
So why had they taken it all away from him?
If they had told him before he had offered to help what would happen, he still would have done it. He still would have wrapped Osiris’ parts together so Isis could bring him back. He should have known that his father would have to stay in the underworld. He was technically dead. Osiris had ruled above, so it was only natural that he take over the underworld. But they could have asked before they just took it.
The embalmer was brooding over his long ago “demotion”, which meant he was wandering. He was staying in the underworld this time. Last time he tried to have a good brood about this, Bast had tracked him down and ruined his it. It had taken him many, many years to get back in this frame of mind. She didn’t come down to his place very often, so he figured he was safe this time around.
He just needed to get the bad feelings out of his system once and for all. Once he did, he would able to move past it; leave the past where it belonged. He would be able to work with his father without any bitterness. He could accept his position in the underworld as a guardian. It was a good, honorable position to be in. He did enjoy that part of his work. The less responsibility part was nice, too. He wouldn’t be able to just wander off if he still had to run the entire underworld.
Anubis had not been paying attention while he was wandering. He knew he had probably been slipping in and out to the mortal plane during his walk. He did that when he wanted to make it harder for Bast to track him. The next time he slipped back into the underworld, he was a little confused.
That was not the gate to his realm. It was a little too chilly to be Egypt. He had obviously stepped into someone else’s territory. He was usually more conscious of the borders. He should just turn around and leave before he offended anyone. They would not be happy if he started an inter-pantheon incident. The smart thing to do was just to go back home as quickly as possible.
