Extended Family (tag: Hel, Erebos, Styx, Philotes)
(Note: After this.)
Nyx could admit it: she was a little nervous. It was not that she thought her children would misbehave. In spite of their aspects, she'd taught all of them manners and demanded that they were used. Even when there wasn't company. After all, shouldn't your family be treated with at least as much respect as a guest?
And she certainly wasn't worried about her husband. He was charming. Occasionally too charming, but that only happened from time to time with pretty goddesses that didn't understand that he was not flirting with them. Nyx set them straight very quickly. But that would not happen tonight because she knew he viewed their guest in the same light that she did, so his charm would be entirely paternal.
Nor was she overly concerned about the girl upon whose arrival she awaited. Hel might be Norse, but Nyx had found her to be perfectly delightful. The poor dear had been through far too much, suffered things no child should have to face so young, and carried more responsibility and duty than she should have to shoulder alone. Nyx was very proud of her for handling all of that as well as she did.
It was not her children. Or her husband. Or Hel. It was the combination of the three, which would happen for the first time tonight that was making Nyx feel a bit restless.
Hel had already met Erebos, when Nyx had brought her home for the first time, and a few times since. But as yet, the girl had not had the opportunity to meet any of Darkness and Night's children. Perhaps she was being overly cautious, but Nyx didn't want to spook the young goddess, and too much , too fast, could be very overwhelming. Especially for someone that had been deprived of as much as Hel had. She was opening up now, though, and it was time for her to be drawn further into the circle of affection within Nyx's household.
So Night had made no restriction on her offspring about coming home for dinner tonight, as she had with Hel's previous visits. But she hadn't specifically invited any of her children either. Nyx was going to let this happen organically. Whoever showed up, showed up.
She did her best not to let her nervousness show as she waited at the gates of the Underworld for Hel to arrive. This should prove to be an interesting evening. One way or another.
