:) Icebreaker!

And of course, what better icebreaker than to post something controversial up for discussion? >:)

My observation on history tends to be that with certain style of writing history, the narrative becomes a form of legitimation for a given ideology, ethnic group, or to justify state control.

Winners write the history. Yay or nay?

intro

Well, this community is dead. Yet it has members.... So to get the ball rolling, I thought I'd post an intro.

Hi! I'm Ashley. I just graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in history. I worked primarily on medieval England and Ireland, and wrote a senior thesis (108 pages, all original research) on the perception and portrayal of sexual violence from Christina of Markyate to Margery Kempe. It was crazy, depressing, and a lot of fun.

I'm primarily interested in the Middle Ages, but also adore the Englightenment/French Rev and Russian History. Some day I may do grad school in which case I'd work some more on societal messages and how they effect real people.

Who are you, why are you here, etc.
