Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Gwendolyn Montgomery and Melinda Bobbin
What: fight, fight, fight
Where: Melinda's flat
When: 10 May, 2004
Status: Complete

Gwendolyn had a really awful couple of days. Although Gwen didn't often spend the weekends with her girlfriend, there were some Sundays when Gwen missed her company and headed over, especially if Melinda had been gone for the week. As it was, Gwen arrived at Melinda's flat in the early evening. Although she didn't see the witch anywhere, Gwen decided to wait for her and surprise her that evening. She settled herself in on the sofa. As minutes turned into hours, Gwen got ready for bed, deciding to stay the night, certain that Melinda would wake her when she returned. Having tucked herself into bed with a novel, Gwen fell asleep sometime around midnight.

The following morning, Gwen had been surprised that Mel's side of the bed hadn't been slept in. Thinking nothing of it, she headed out into the living room, thinking Melinda would be asleep on the sofa. When she wasn't there either, Gwen started to worry. Her first thought had been that perhaps Melinda had been injured, though that been quickly rejected as she'd been sure she would have been contacted. The next thought, one typical for both Gwen and Mel, had been the involvement of another girl. With that thought on her mind, Gwen had gone to work.

What had followed was a not so happy day. She'd spent most of the morning trying to figure out precisely where Melinda had been the previous night, though unable to really determine anything. As usual, Gwen finished at the Ministry shortly before noon. There wasn't a performance that night, so Gwen willed away the rest of the afternoon between her flat and Diagon Alley. That evening, after she was sure Melinda would be home, Gwendolyn apparated to Melinda's flat and knocked on the door.

Sleep had not been an easy thing the night before. Between making sure that Roger did not wake up and sneak off to more drinking or vomit or such nonsense like that, sleep had made it on the low order of things that needed to be done. Which meant she was exhausted at work. Luckily this Monday seemed to have a forgiving sort of nature, with less crisis' than usual. Lunch was still skipped in favour of catching up on some much needed rest at her desk.

Which meant when she finally arrived home, she was famished. Busying herself in the kitchen making some sort of sandwich, she barely heard the knock on the door in her preoccupation. It seemed odd, since she did not know of anyone coming over. Lisa was supposed to check on Roger, but if something had been wrong she felt the other girl would have already contacted her. Other than that she could not think of someone coming to visit today who would knock.

Picking up her sandwich and taking a bite, she walked over to the door and opened it. "Gwen?" it was a bit of a shock to see her girlfriend on the other side of the door. Normally she just came right in. Moving out of the way, she took another bite as she made room for the blonde to come in.

From the moment she'd knocked to the moment it was answered, Gwen counted the seconds and tried to listen, just in case there were voices on the inside. "Surprised to see me?" She asked once she answered the door, as she stepped inside the flat. As she moved into the living room, Gwen glanced around, trying to see if there was any sort of evidence of another person in the room. "Were you expecting someone else?"

"Well, yes actually." she admitted, a bit confused as to why Gwen seemed so on edge. She looked as if she was looking for something, or very possibly someone. "I thought you had a show, or at the very least practice. I'm happy to see you though."

When Gwen suggested that someone else would be there, Mel only became more confused. Shutting the door behind her, she locked it and frowned slightly. "No, actually. I just got home, was having something to eat. Why didn't you just floo in?"

"No, we're off today and tomorrow, there's usually not enough interest on Mondays to warrant a production." Gwen explained as her eyes still glanced about the room. She softened just a little when Melinda had said she was happy to see her, though she quickly reminded herself that she was likely just trying to distract her.

"I apparated, didn't want the soot on me," Gwen said in response to her question. "Have a busy day?" she asked, looking toward the kitchen to see if there was more than one plate. "Looks like you didn't sleep much."

Normally Mel would be more suspicious of what was going on. However most days she had gotten more than the half hour nap during lunch time. Given that state of mind she was more than confused as to why Gwen seemed to harsh at the moment.

"Yeah, I did." she said, heading back towards the kitchen to get something to drink along with her sandwich. "And I didn't. Was up with Roger last night, making sure he didn't drink himself to death. Do you want something to drink, by the way?"

Gwendolyn's eyes narrowed as Melinda brought up Roger. How exactly was she supposed to respond to that. Melinda had just admitted to spending the night in her 'boyfriend's' flat surrounded by plenty of alcohol, and to getting practically no sleep. There was really only so much one cold infer from that. "I'm not thirsty," she said, crossing her arms. "So you spent all night with Roger?"

With her back turned, she did not see Gwen's eyes narrow at her. In her mind, Roger was a convenience. She had no interest in men and never had so she never saw a reason for Gwen to suspect anything would go on between them. Pulling out a glass, she got herself some water before she heard Gwen's reply.

"Yes." she said slowly, turning to face Gwen. Leaning against the counter, she watched her. "And I'm surprised that he did not give himself alcohol poisoning after the mess that was the game with the cannons."

Gwen wasn't at all pleased to hear Melinda admitting the face, even if it was accompanied with the words alcohol poisoning. After all people got drunk and shagged all of the time. Plus, it was Roger, and Gwen was pretty sure there was something going on between those two. Why else would they spend so much time together publicly? "Did you sleep with him?"

"Yes, to make sure he didn't choke on his vomit in his sleep." she replied, the idea that Gwen might think that she actually slept with him never crossing her mind. Melinda was a lesbian, she always had been and Gwen was aware of that. The idea of her having sex with a man never crossed her mind, and if she knew that it had crossed Gwen's she never would have responded that way.

Taking another bite of her sandwich, she was starting to feel slightly less light headed as the food began to hit her stomach. She really needed to find a way to nap and eat at the same time.

"Right. And I'm sure you didn't kiss him either." Gwendolyn snapped back, glaring at Melinda. She was actually getting more upset by the minute at her girlfriend's complete and utter lack of reaction. She didn't even seem to care at all that she'd just admitted to cheating on her.

"Why would I kiss him?" she asked, looking at her, perplexed. "He was drunk enough to actually attempt kissing me, which was... awkward. And gross." Gwen was getting visibly upset and Melinda had no idea why. Had Roger been a girl, Melinda could understand completely, especially given her history. But it was Roger, her fake boyfriend and cover in society. They never actually did anything, people just assumed they did.

"Because he's fit? I don't know, Melinda, but I wasn't the one spending the whole buggery night with him!" Gwendolyn responded, trying really hard to keep her voice under control though doing a rather dreadful job of it. Although she was hearing Melinda, the words weren't exactly sinking in all that well as Gwen was pretty sure that Mel would make up anything to placate her.

"What's that got to do with anything!" she asked, snapping just a bit. Had she been less tired or less hungry she would be better able to control herself, but she was worn out and Gwen seemed to be chasing after shadows. Putting her sandwich down, she walked over to her. "What, do you think I shagged him? Why in bloody hell would I do something like that?!"

"How the hell would I know?!" Gwendolyn retorted, her voice raising a bit. It was quite clear that Mel finally got what she was talking about, but Gwen wasn't happy that she just seemed to be denying everything. "I'm not the one who spent the whole night in someone else's bed, now am I? And you kissed! You don't deny that, so you could very well have shagged him!"

"No we couldn't have very well shagged, I don't shag men! Merlin, Gwen, you know I don't shag men! That's revolting!" she shouted back, part of her brain realizing that she should likely watch her voice. Nothing would get solved by yelling, but merlin, she had spent all night taking care of a drunk and depressed man, was starving, and now her girlfriend was attempting to accuse her of sleeping with said drunk man. Melinda was beginning to wonder if she had some karma coming to pay today.

"Revolting?" Gwendolyn repeated, her eyes going wide. "Revolting?!? Oh that's nice, real nice, Melinda. Does that make me revolting too because I shag them? I don't remember being so revolting last Wednesday when we were in bed," she said, glaring at her girlfriend. "I seem to remember it being more like 'Oh Gwen! Salazar! Yes!'" she mocked, her tone reaching a higher pitch in mock ecstasy.

Her head felt like it was about to split. The urge to just shake Gwen to get her to shut her mouth really was overwhelming. "Oh don't start that, you know that's not what I meant!" Her hands went to her hair, gripping it tight for a moment before putting them back down at her sides. "Gwendolyn, nothing happened. Nothing is ever going to happen with me and Roger. Ever."

Gwen wasn't any happier on her end. She glared at Melinda as she spoke, placing her hands on her hips. She was just starting to get angrier, and Melinda's yelling wasn't helping the matter. "I'm sure it isn't what you meant at all," Gwendolyn said glaring at her again. "What makes you so sure it won't? You see him all of the time, every bloody paper you're there in his arms!"

"Because I'm not attracted to men! I never have been! Merlin, I've already explained to you why Roger is around, I shouldn't have to again every time I see him!" Her hands felt the need to just grab something. She resisted the urge to fist them in front of Gwendolyn. She needed to control her temper but dammit, this was ridiculous. Gwen had even agreed to the Roger situation when they had first come up with it!

"I know why he's around Melinda! I'm not stupid!" Gwen said with another glare. This was was absolutely ridiculous. Melinda didn't even seem to get it at all, in fact she was making it sound like it was entirely her fault. "He's around to make you look good, because apparently going out with me in public just won't work. And before you even start, I know we can't go out in public, but did you think about me even once? I was here all bloody night, with no idea where you were and you go off and to be with your boyfriend!" She was jutst getting completely frustrated with the situation, and throwing things was starting to sounds like a really brilliant idea.

Melinda stopped before she could respond to Gwen. It had not even crossed her mind that she might have come over, that she would have been here alone. "You were here alone?" she asked, her voice getting softer as she realized just what had happened. "Oh, baby, I'm sorry."

Stepping closer to Gwen, she wrapped her arms around her, holding her tight. She hoped to show just how sorry she was, as well as keeping Gwen from possibly breaking some of her kitchen appliances. "I didn't know you were coming over. My secretary sent me over a note about Roger, thought the idiot was going to drink himself to death. I'd have come home if I knew you were here."

Gwendolyn stiffened as Melinda hugged her. It took a moment or two before she relaxed against her and slid her arms around Melinda's waist, hugging her back. She wasn't entirely sure if she believed Melinda, but at least she was sticking to her story. Looking up at Melinda, Gwen sniffled just a little. She went up on her toes and pressed her lips to Melinda's. "Okay."

Running her hands over Gwen's back gently once she relaxed in her arms, she looked back at her apologetically. "Oh don't cry, love." she cooed gently, kissing her back softly. "I wouldn't be able to stand it if you did."

Squeezing her gently, she rested their foreheads together. "Let me finish my dinner, and then I'll make it up to you?"

"I'm not crying," Gwen mumbled indignantly, but happily kissed Mel back. She was feeling her anger starting to slowly fade away, but she supposed Melinda had a bit of a calming effect on her. "Ooo brilliant!" Gwen said, brightening considerably at Mel's next words. "Finish your dinner then, I'll meet you in the bedroom," Gwen said with a grin as she kissed Mel briefly before sliding out of her arms and bouncing off to Mel's bedroom.
