Thread: Alicia Spinnet & Roger Davies Who: Alicia Spinnet and Roger Davies When: Saturday, May 2 - Evening Where: Ministry of Magic's War Benefit Gala Ball What: A bit of dancing, a bit of socializing -- plenty of fun! Status: In-Progress
The ball had been lovely so far. It had been the perfect chance to finally see people Alicia hadn't seen for a while. She had gotten to sit down in a calm, stress-fre environment to catch up on the lives of close friends. Being a professional Quidditch player didn't leave you much time to socialize unless it was at a bar with a pint in hand or admist screaming fans. Alicia hadn't been in the middle of any of that for a bit now with her suspension, but one didn't easily forget the atmosphere.
It was also fun to see people dressed in their finest. It wasn't Alicia's favorite way to dress, but she felt she cleaned up nicely when needed. Dressed in a gown of light periwinkle blue satin and chiffon trimmed with delicate beading and sequins, she had been making her rounds with her date when one of her favorite Quidditch captains approached her. "Roger!" Alicia smiled, offering him a friendly, warm hug. "You look handsome as usual. Enjoying yourself then?"
There certainly was one bright point on being a bloke in a situation such as this and that was all the beautiful ladies in gorgeous gowns. Indeed as he moved among the throng, it wasn't hard to see a very beautiful face here and there as he walked. He had spent a majority of his evening up until then dancing with one girl or the other. Of course, he'd spent a sufficient amount of time with his date, but he wasn't very well going to ignore the other women, and the occasional colleague. Indeed, he found himself drinking wine and chatting far more than he expected he would. It was as he was doing so that Roger spotted a very familiar figure. Excusing himself from his mates for a moment, Roger headed over, intending on a quick helo, though he had no disire to drag her away from her escort.
"Alicia!" Roger said gasping her name much as she had gasped his and hugged her back. "I could say the very same about you. You look beautiful, Ali," Roger said with a smile as he pulled back and grinned at her. "You clean up very nicely, Spinnet," he said and winked at her.
"Amazing what we hide under those Quidditch robes, isn't it?" Slight feeling of uncomfortableness aside, Alicia found her dress both unique and fitting for the evening. Truth be told, it was a dress that Katie had been able to sneak away from the Witch Weekly offices, but who knew any different? She was certain no one here would really know. Besides, Katie had left a note that she was borrowing some items to use to report with during the evening. It was all very legit.
"The match the other day was brilliant! I meant to tell you, but, well..." She trailed off, knowing that bring up Quidditch injuries wasn't something most people like to discuss. "Good to see you recovered all right, though." She was certainly someone else had taken a spill - Megan, perhaps? - but she couldn't remember. It probably wasn't important. "Getting up there in the team ranks. Think you'll make it to the finals without much trouble?" She had been hoping, of course, for the Arrows to make it, but she had her doubts even if she had been actively playing through the end of the season.
"It surprises me every time." Roger chuckled and nodded. He liked to think he looked rather dashing himself, but the women somehow always managed to make themselves look loads better without the Quidditch uniforms. Then again, he supposed it helped that men tended to look better when covered in sweat and mud.
His smile faded just a bit at the mention of the previous match. One would think that as the captain of the most sucessful club in Quidditch history, Roger could have managed not to get knocked out. It was still a fairly sore subject for Roger, who had been blaming himself for the better part of two weeks now. He forced a smile, "All in one piece, the Falcolns will just have to try harder. Today's match was even better though," he said, trying to move on from the subject. At the mention of finals, Roger contemplated the question for just a moment before nodding in agreement. "I think we have a fair shot, to be honest. So long as we don't see any further cock-ups. What about the Arrows? I'm sure you've been keeping track."
