Thread: Terry Boot & Gwendolyn Montgomery Who: Terry Boot and Gwendolyn Montgomery When: Saturday, May 2 - Evening Where: Ministry of Magic's War Benefit Gala Ball What: Terry actually strikes up the nerve to ask a very pretty girl to dance. Alert the media! Status: In-Progress
He had kept to himself for most of the evening, having intense conversations with past housemates, schoolmates and fellow Ministry workers. He was even still nursing his lone glass of wine through the numerous conversations. Terry wasn't much of a drinker, so the less he had the better really. He didn't want to go off and make an utter fool of himself. The ball was a wonderful idea and he had made sure to voice his sincere liking to those in charge. He didn't need to impress anyone to get ahead in his position, but it was always good to make yourself look good just in case.
Finally finishing off his glass, Terry excused himself from his conversation, handing one of the passing waiters his glass before making his way over to another blonde he had become acquainted with. Adjusting the black bow tie that he wore with his suit, Terry cleared his throat as he approached a certain Gwendolyn Montgomery. "Miss Montgomery," he began with his usual wide smile. "Looking just as lovely as you always do." He had been practicing his compliments. He decided telling a girl they looked very professional just didn't cut it.
"Might I have a moment for a dance?"
Practicing. Really, truly practicing.
Gwendolyn Montgomery arrived at the Ball fashionably late, as was customary for pureblood women. She was dressed in a sleek deep green dress which hugged her body in all of the right places with a plunging neckline to display her assets and a cinched waist that showed off her tiny figure. In head to toe green with matching golden jewellery, Gwen looked every bit the Slytherin. It hadn't been her intention, but as she'd spotted the dress there was no denying how good she looked in it. Having arrived with friends, and no particular escort, Gwen spent much of her night flitting from one group of friends to the other. Although she didn't have a position of importance at the Ministry, Gwen was still very well aware of who was who. Indeed, she was probably one of the few people in the building who knew almost everyone's names. She had yet to dance with many people, as she'd wanted to bit of socializing first. Although she could easily see her girlfriend across the dance floor, spending much time with her was completely out of the question, and it really was just a matter of who was interesting enough to deserve a dance with her.
As it was, Gwen spent sipped her champagne and nodded in response to Jeniffer's comment. Hearing someone clear their throat, Gwen gave her mate an apologetic smile, and turned around. It was expected she supposed, that conversations were to be interrupted for the sake of lovely fit blokes. Turning on her heel to see who the admirer was, Gwen brightened as she saw Terry Boot standing there.
Gwendolyn smiled at the compliment and inclined her head slightly. "Cheers, Terry," she said, flashing him a smile. That had been a much better compliment than the professional bit before. "You look very handsome yourself." It was true, Terry did look rather dashing in the suit he was waiting. She'd never been a massive fan of the bowtie, but somehow it managed to suit him.
"I would be honoured," Gwendolyn said as she held her hand out for Terry to take.
Taking her hand, Terry led her onto the crowded floor. His movements were fluid and gentle as he placed a hand against her waist and took her hand in the other. Terry, really, was a rather good dancer when it came to the waltzes and other ballroom-type forms of dancing. He was, also, a gentleman, keeping a decent amount of space between himself and his lovely partner. Others stood in a closer, more intimate fashion, but that was not the case. They would remain as such unless Gwen voiced otherwise. He did not want to seem forcefully forward or pushy as he considered Anthony tended to be at times.
"Are you enjoy yourself this evening?" Terry was use to a bit of small talk during his dancing either discussing current events, the life revolving around his dance partner or the weather. Not very exciting topics at times, but it seemed to be the best thing for two people to discuss. "The room looks brilliant, doesn't it? The committee in charge certainly outdid themselves with this gathering. Quite noble of them to celebrate the victories of so many, don't you think?" He hadn't really given it much thought, but perhaps he should just stop talking all together. There was a very faint voice nagging at him to do so, but it clearly just wasn't loud enough for him to acknowledge.
"Did I mention you look stunning in green?"
Gwendolyn smiled and nodded as she allowed Terry to lead her out onto the dance floor. He was a surprisingly good dancer, and Gwen was quite pleased to find out this little bit of information. She also found that she enjoyed the fact that she needn't worry about him treading on her toes. Gwen was well learned in the various ballroom dance styles, though she very much favoured the modern dances that allowed one to be that much closer to one's partner. Nevertheless, she happily swayed with Terry as they moved across the dance floor, Terry in hte lead.
"I must admit, I'm quite enjoying myself. The music is lovely, as are the drinks," Gwen said, looking up at Terry as they dance. "The company is brilliant, of course." she added, finding herself drifting slightly closer to Terry as they dance. She could hardly understand the necessity for all of the space between them. She smiled a little as he started talking aobut the decoration, she'd never met such a talkative bloke! "Yes, I do think the they did an excellent job. Have you seen many of your friends and collegues yet? I was quite surprised at the number of people here, it's brilliant to see so many people coming together for a good cause." Well, whether it was actually a good cause or not was debateable, but Gwen was hardly going to go into that.
"You haven't, but thank you, I think the colour suits me."
It was then that, as usual, the awkward silence fell between Terry and his lovely dance partner. It always happened that way when Terry was in the presence of a pretty girl. His usual ramblings, which were usually about work or his latest mission, just never cut it for conversation. He had tried it at dinner, but the conversation went from boring, to dreadfully dull and then to practically silent. Until she tried to stick her hand down his pants. That hadn't gone over very well in the slightest.
"How is it being the greeter at the Ministry?" He had always wondered that. He was sure she saw some rather interesting individuals. Terry thought being a Hit Wizard meant seeing a variety of people, but they were usually the same sort: creepy, dirty and questionable individuals with a bad record. "Must be exciting at times. I can only assume of course."
Gwendolyn didn't mind the silence. It wasn't entirely unexpected, to her at least. Granted it was a bit awkward, but Gwen was starting to realise that feeling tended to be associated with Terry as a whole. Normally, Gwen would likely have started babbling on about some subject or another, but she really was making an effort to be polite and as such she merely followed the stems, enjoying the music.
Greeter? Gwen mulled the name over in her head as she tried to decide whether she liked the title or not. She supposed it could have its negatives and positives in relation to 'receptionist'. Certainly a friendlier sounding title. "I like it," Gwen finally said in response to Terry's question. "It's fun to see all sorts of weird people coming in and cout of the Ministry. Had someone try to sneak past security last week, was rather funny." Gwen said, smiling up at Terry. "What about your job. Surely it's fairly exciting."
