A Walk in the Park
WHO: Peri and Les, Lucy in tag-a-long, Ian if he wants
WHAT: Talking about life as it is
WHEN: Post coming back to the city, NYC that is
WHERE: More or less Central Park

They were alone now. Or as alone as anyone got in Central Park. It was interesting really, surrounded by so many people, but noticed by so few. Sure, some noticed three attractive women walking around together, two of them in lab coats and scrubs. The way the possibly oldest wore her clothes, she looked as if she could be comfortable in anything, even a trash bag if that was what she had to wear, or nothing at all if it came down to that. The other lab coat female? Well, she didn't look happy, but at least she wasn't being pulled along by an invisible kiddie wrist leash. The third female seemed to calm her down. If Les trusted Peri, Peri must not be all bad, right?

"So, tell me again what happened, slowly. Lucy, darling, don't fall too far behind." It wasn't a threat exactly, but Lucy had been on the receiving end of some of Peri's nonthreats. "You were attacked by someone? And your mother is now dead?"

Les had given a few details, but Peri needed more. She'd not had time to look into Les' parents, which was something she'd kick herself for if she were the type to regret much. Life hadn't exactly made it easy to be regretful; if she'd had that trait, she'd probably have committed suicide many times over.

Peri bent down a little as they walked and gave Les' pup a quick little rub tween the ears. If Les didn't have the cutie on a leash, Peri could easily create an invisible one. The pup was a decent distraction, or at least, it gave Peri something to do while she listened.

Leslie walked along next to Peri head down, arms wrapped around herself. She'd thought about calling the police-but what could they do? Nothing. Not against a man who had some sort of telekinesis. So she was here, with Peri, still trying to figure out what had happened.

When Peri asked her to explain, Les took a deep breath, closing her eyes for a moment. "I..I came home, and I found my mom...she was dead. Dying, maybe-I'm not sure. Then...he came in. I...think he has telekinesis or something. I couldn't move, like I was paralyzed. It was the man I'd met at the Halloween party I went to. He started to..say things." She let her breath out slowly, reopening her eyes. "I panicked...and I..I think I made a rose vine get...really big. It shot through the window and wrapped around him. It made him let me go, so I ran. I came here, and called you."

A tear slipped out of one eye as the branches of all the nearby trees shuddered a little. "I...I don't know what to do. I can't go back, Peri. And my mom...she..." The teen trailed off, looking over at Peri again. "I need help."

Peri's hand rested lightly on Les' shoulder, just giving a soft squeeze for moral support. She'd never gone through exactly what Les had, but she could still understand the emotions. The helplessness. Peri wasn't always the strong woman currently working the medical doctor look.

"Unfortunately, we need to go back. While I know the world would seem much easier if you could just leave what happened behind, we need to call the police. I'm not their biggest fan, but we don't want a statewide manhunt for you or your kidnapper." She knew she was going to need to make some calls, and if she was unsure of anything, the woman certainly didn't show it. She offered Les a reassuring soft smile.

"What did he say? Did he give you a name?" If she knew who he was...if she knew who the attacker had been, then she'd know how to handle it all. "It will hurt, but that is part of healing."

Les closed her eyes when Peri touched her shoulder, taking another slow breath and wiping away the tear. "The police..how do we explain? I mean...she's...she was pinned to the wall. And there's glass....and probably that giant vine..." Leslie swallowed hard. "I don't know what to tell them?"

Plus, she really didn't want to go back there.

"Name?" She blinked, blanking for a moment, then nodded. "Oh. Um, O'Grady. Drew O'Grady. That's what he said at that big Halloween party, anyway." She looked at Peri. "He's really dangerous...I don't want him to hurt anyone else. We really shouldn't go back."

"I'll have to look into the name." Even Lucy noticed that her friend was in distress; she stepped up long enough to give Les a soft squeeze before stepping back in line - Peri had given the screamer a look.

"Leslie, I've been at this for a while. I know how to handle the authorities. What we need right now is to get back into the house, get what you need, and then make the call. I need you to be brave; it'll be scary, but if you go through with this, it will work out much better than having a neighbor or housekeeper find the damage. We don't need people looking for you. Having control of even this sort of situation is much better than running from it." Peri wasn't a die hard control freak, but she did believe in spinning situations to suit her needs.

"I'll do what I can to keep you safe."

Les hesitated. She didn't want to see her mom like that. And she was afraid he was still there. She looked away for a moment, then finally nodded, wrapping her arms around herself.

She looked over to Peri again, facing her fully, and nodded. "Okay...let's go..." Hopefully this would not be a bad idea..
