Running for the corner, Mohinder tried to keep his low enough to avoid having it blown off. He had heard of disrupter blasts from the tele, but never in all his life had he expected to run in to it. Energy weapons, particle beams, phase cannons, these were all pure fantasy!
So why were floating hydrants shooting them at him.
Well, him and this crazy guy who seemed to find the whole situation amusing. Rounding the corner, Mohinder was jerked almost completely off his feet by the man with the interesting hair style. The stranger slammed him against the wall beside him.
Mohinder started to protest, but the man slapped a hand over his mouth. He used his eyes to promise the stranger retribution. This was all his fault, after all, if he had let Mohinder wander the streets alone, he never would have stumbled upon those damnedable flying rubbish bins!
"Hiding behind a primitive composite structure. Pathetic!"
He winced at the nasal, metallic voice. Those words would haunt his nightmares a good long while, he just knew. Closing his eyes, he could hear the engine, or whatever was floating the devices, getting closer.
Grinning like a loon, the stranger pushed the hair out of his eyes. With the hand not over Mohinder's mouth, he reached inside his trench coat. He pulled out a small blue device that lit up when he squeezed the handle. The man twirled it in his fingers before aiming it at the mouth of the alley.
No sooner than he took aim, then one of the floating bins came around the corner. The plunger it was using for an eye came to focus on them.
The stranger squeezed his blue device.
A short second later, the eye stalk winked out and the bin came crashing to the street beneath it. Smoke and sparks belched forth as several panels of its armor exploded.
"Yes! Whoo!" Throwing up his arms, the stranger danced in a slow circle. "Oh, yeah, I'm good!"
Staring in utter shock, Mohinder felt a little faint. What in the bloody hell had just happened? How could a flashlight cause that much damage a bin? It was time to get some answers. Clearing his throat, he drew the attention of the stranger. "Yes, that's all well and good, but perhaps, if you're willing, I might get some answers. Such as, just who the bloody hell are you?"
Straightening up his coat, the stranger grinned like he had just won the world cup. The corner of his mouth tugged down. "I've got many titles, but most just call me the Doctor. But, I suppose if you have to have a name, I really like Peter."
"Peter." The word fell from his lips like a lead weight. With the a sick feeling in his gut, Mohinder knew that the world had gone completely nutters.
"Yep." Pushing his hair back one more time, Peter grinned at him. He bounced on the balls of his feet. "So, have any plans for the next hundred years?"
With that question, Mohinder felt like crying.
