Night, in the city, it was a dark and gritty world.
Where pimps beat their women on corners and children ran naked through the streets. Trash laid in great heaps in back allies that stank of putrid waste and human offal. Not fit for life, it was the perfect place for it to breed.
The perfect place for it to thrive.
Stillness was the only warning sign before it came. After it, only death. Not even the roaches and lice on those rats were left alive. The most disgusting part about it, even the vermin had their blood sucked away.
Whatever it was, the police weren't talking. The mayor refused to even allow anything about it to be published. What he was so worried about, no one was quite certain. It wasn't like they didn't know all about it already.
Was kind of hard to keep the secret of several mass killings quiet.
Especially when It was certain to make sure everyone knew It had been there.
No one knew how to stop it. No one was certain they could. All knew one thing, though, it had to be stopped, else they might be next.
That's why they called in him.
Using the last of his old cigar to light his next, Bennet took a big puff. Clenching his large stone fist, he carelessly tossed the old cigar in to a dumpster. When it caught fire, he only grinned.
Scratching at his filed down horn, he glanced through the limo window at the white haired mayor himself. "I hear you have a problem."
"How very astute." Sitting forward, Mayor Linderman stroked his white cat. "You've got two days. Find it, kill it, let nothing get in your way."
"That, I can handle." Shouldering his gun, Bennet watched the limo pull away. One day he might shoot that guy, just to see if he really was that full of himself.
In the mean while, he had a nasty to hunt down. Sighing, he glanced across the stinky alley. It was going to be a long night.
THE END..................................
