Kicking the door shut behind him, Mohinder carried the bags over to his desk. He set them down with a groan. The spasm in his back had been bothering him for the past three blocks, making it almost impossible to walk up the stairs. But someone had to get them groceries.
Speaking of them, he glanced about for the other occupant of his apartment. Despite the late hour, there wasn't a single light on. Frowning, he walked towards the kitchen, and subsequently, his gun. The light above the small stove was out.
Upon meeting the counter, he reached for the drawer. He started to gently pull it open, but it slammed shut, seemingly of it's own free will. Mohinder's back went ramrod straight, sweat starting at his brow. Swallowing, he tried to glance about without moving his head. "Wha...where are you?"
"You moved." The voice belonged to a woman.
Mohinder frowned. He didn't know that voice, but it sounded familiar. "Who are you? What have you done to Molly?"
"She's safe, for now." The shadows in the apartment seemed to recede slowly until her figure was visible. She stood at the far end of the counter, as tall as he.
All Mohinder could make out of her appearance was that she had dark hair and pale skin. He automatically noticed her figure, his eyes tracing the gentle swell of her breasts and hips. "What do you want?"
"No more questions." She raised a hand.
Mohinder felt an invisible presence grasp him. When she flicked her palm, he was flung back against the far wall. His hands were drawn out to his sides, even with his face. Panic clutched at his heart, making it hard to breathe.
"You will tell me where I can find them." Her voice dropped several octaves until the glass in the windows and cabinet doors vibrated from it. Moving slowly, she moved further from the shadows. "Where is the Company?"
Swallowing, Mohinder tried to shake his head. An unseen hand slapped him hard across the face, knocking his head to the side.
"Do not lie to me!" Several of the glasses on his shelves exploded. The picture Molly had hung over the sink shattered and fell from its hook. "I know you have been working for them. They gave you Molly. It would be a shame for her to lose a second family." She stopped near where Mohinder had been standing. "Do not doubt I will kill you if you attempt to lie to me again."
Blood dripped from his split lip. Still dazed from the attack, Mohinder shook his head to clear it. The monster in front of him should not have been able to find them. Whatever happened, though, he had to protect Molly.
If she were still alive.
"How do..." He trailed off as a light appeared above the couch. It was a floating flashlight with nothing holding it in place. The light shown down upon the unconscious form of Molly. He could tell she was alive by the rise and fall of her chest.
A wave of relief washed over him, making him gasp. Breaking his gaze away from her, he turned to the woman. "What do you want to know?"
"Where are they? Who was involved?" Her voice had returned to a more normal timbre. Though, it still held a hint of the deep vocals in the hostility.
His swirling thoughts tried to focus on something she might find useful, anything he could tell her without giving too much away. Bob, Elle, and the others were off limits. When her eyes suddenly flared to life, glowing as if on fire, he lost the ability to breathe.
The counter was suddenly emptied, plates and glasses slamming in to the tiled walls of the kitchen. The fridge exploded across the room, the contents coating everything within reach. Windows exploded outwards, taking the drapes and blinds with them.
A wind wiped at him, pressing him further against the wall. Small things like pencils and the toaster spun in a violent circle around her before slamming in to the walls. When the dull end of a pen slammed through his palm, Mohinder shrieked from the pain.
He felt dark fingers trail along his mind. Images of Bob and Elle flashed in his mind before being torn from him. Primatech, the Chanti virus, Claire's blood, everything he knew about them was stolen from his mind. Groaning, he tried to fight her off, but she was too powerful for him.
Almost as suddenly as it began, it was over. Falling to his hands and knees, Mohinder began to sob. Tears and snot ran down his face, staining his cheeks. Through the pain, he noticed her shoes were drawing near. He knew, some how, this was not the monster he had known.
This was someone, some thing, different.
"I gave you a chance, Mohinder." She stopped directly in front of him. Her black heels shown off their high gloss polish in the light of the street lamps. "You failed."
The invisible force slammed in to his back, flattening him against the tiled floor. Some how, he retained the ability to breathe enough to speak. Through the gasps and groans of pain, Mohinder sputtered. "Ple..please!"
"Do you have what we came for?" The voice was familiar.
The fear and hatred that passed through Mohinder gave him the strength to look up. Shock at what he saw nearly gave him a heart attack. It couldn't be. It was impossible.
Yet, there they were.
Standing in the shattered window, a overly dressed Sylar watched them with an air of anticipation. His eyes seemed to glow from within as he saw her standing over Mohinder.
In the light coming in through the window, Mohinder could see her face. The features were familiar, but different enough for them not to be recognizable at first glance. It was the way her lip twitched downward at the corner that stopped his heart.
Looking from Sylar to Mohinder, her face remained completely blank. "Yes." Then, she stepped over Mohinder, her body rising higher off the ground with each step. She floated to a stop in the window frame next to Sylar.
Sylar reached up to caress her cheek, but his hand was slammed back against his chest by an unseen force. He looked to snarl at her, but thought better of it. Instead, he pushed off the window frame and came to land on the tile next to Mohinder. As he knelt down beside Mohinder, a triumphant expression crossed his face. "Your friends really shouldn't have killed her brother."
Unable to think of himself, Mohinder knew he would die. There was only one hope he had, one important last thing to ensure. He spit to clear his mouth, begging her with his eyes. "Molly, please. Please!"
She looked from Mohinder to the sleeping girl on the couch. Then she glanced back to Mohinder. The flashlight above Molly winked out then fell to the floor beside her. "Make it quick, there are other stops to make." Pushing off from the window, she flew up in to the night.
Mohinder couldn't believe it. It wasn't possible. Even when the pain started, he couldn't quite grasp what had happened.
THE END.......................
