Current music:Grace Jones - Pull Up To The Bumper
Entry tags:gidget, hale

Week One: Wednesday
Who: Gidget and Hale
Where: Floor 7
When: Wednesday, around 3PM
What: Friendly neighbours!

3PM usually meant a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Usually, however, it wasn't considered an acceptable time to be ready for, or for just coming home without sleep. Gidget and Hale, however, were perfectly suited to be neighbours if nothing for their motley schedules. Both tended to be coming and going at all hours of the day or night. It just so happened today that she had woken up just an hour before and was headed out into the day when he was just coming in.

Gidget was stepping out just as he came around. She knew she had a neighbor, but hadn't had the opportunity to meet him. Seemed like kind of a shut-in, she could hear his television sometimes. Her linen closet was like a portal into his living room. She also knew that he had a dog, but hearing barking didn't require someone to have more than a braincell to figure out what that meant.

She stepped out of her door, huge oval sunglasses with red frames on her face and almost ran right into him. Quick reflexes; she stepped back almost immediately on her towering black heels with the red and black speckle pattern on the inside heel. Gidget had on an oversized black sweater with bunched ribbon coming from her right hip to meet with a similar sewn-in track of bunched ribbon from her right shoulder to meet just above her left breast in a bright reddish-pink. For the weather's sake she was wearing opaque black leggings. Nails sharp and as red as blood. Matching lipstick. China doll wig. Gidget's earliest schtick involved her showing up at random, inappropriate places dressed and acting as Miss Scarlet from clue.

Behold her more quality wig and lack of white face paint. "Oh my!" She purred, very large red leather handbag propped up by one elbow. It was easy to look up at him over her sunglasses. Her first instinct that he was tired. Her second was that he was just darling, darling! "Long night?" She asked, wicked red smile over white teeth as she set her hip.

Hello, new neighbor!

It had been a long night for Hale. In fact, a long day AND night. He hadn't had more than a few hours home over the past twenty hours; long enough to walk Blue, make sure she was happy and well fed, before he got another call and had to head back to the department. The murder scene had been grisly. He was trying to block it out now.

Hale, a shut in? Well, yeah. When he could be. Usually he was so tired from work that going out for more social activities beyond drinks with guys at the department just seemed superfluous. He liked to relax. Sit on his couch with a basketball game (usually taped, becuause he always missed the actual airing) on the television, Blue warming his feet, and his gun and badge put away where he didn't have to think about it for a few hours at least. He wasn't against being out and about, the opportunity just didn't present itself very often. Had something to do with being a workaholic, according to his mother.

He was about to unlock his door when his next door neighbor came bounding out of hers. Well, she certainly looked... interesting. Eccentric? Yeah, that was the word. Apparently liked to dressed up. He suddenly felt a little bit underdressed, even in the hallway, in his wrinkled khakis, blue button-down with the rolled-up sleeves, tie loosed around his neck, jacket left in his car. His hair wasn't a mess at least, it was too short to worry about that. In fact, his outfit had held up quite well considering he'd been in it for 20 hours and he hadn't ironed it beforehand. Still, this neighbor of his, she was certainly eye-catching in that 'so interesting you can't look away' sort of way.

"You could say that," he replied, inclining his head in a sort of greeting. She was perky, but then again most people were a little more energetic at this hour of the afternoon. "Guess we're neighbors," he said, and immediately felt like an idiot for stating the obvious. To make up for it, he offered his hand. "I'm Hale Everard."

"Guess we are." She replied promptly, placing her right hand in his much larger one, palm down like a proper lady. With an easy movement she lifted her sunglasses with the other to perch just so on her chinadoll, shiny black hair. Her eye makeup was an exercize in false subtlety. The dark blues and light, earth tones that went across her lids and out in a pseudo-cat eye pattern were a complex pattern that gave them an extremely dramatic look. Her eyelashes weren't fake, but a little solidifier and pure black cover made them really pop.

"Glad to know someone else keeps my schedule, Hale." Must have been teased mercilessly about his last name. What a tragedy! She had been called Pee-Pee for years, although Gigi had too many friends to let it stick for long throughout school. "Gidget Pei-Pei, by law. But you, my darling, can call me Gigi." Her name was said somewhat frenchish and fancy-like. Jee-Jee, with the care of some sort of exotic wine.

"Tell me, Hale darling, do they really make male models work such long hours?" It was statements like these that betrayed exactly how much Eartha Kitt's Catwoman and other femme fatales had such a huge effect on Gigi. She purred the line out, a bit over the top, oozing with femininity and mystery and just that little bit of a pout. Catwoman was the right word, probably. Gigi was very much a cat, always appearing lazily elegant and mysterious. Eh, it was a living.

He shook her hand awkwardly, not entirely sure what he was supposed to do. Kiss it? Naw, he couldn't do that, it was... weird and sort of embarrassing. Her makeup was a little bit hypnotizing with those colors, but he made it a point not to stare. Staring was rude and he was pretty sure he was already making quite a bad impression. A day and a half sans sleep could do that to a guy.

"What schedule?" He asked with a light laugh. "I'm not allowed to have one of those. On call constantly, pretty much." Murderers, they didn't keep normal business hours. They weren't that kind to the detectives on duty. Not by a long shot. And that was quite a name, she had. Not that he was rude enough to mention it. "Gigi," he repeated, pronouncing it as close to how she had as he could without sounding light in his loafers.

"Male models?" he asked, blushing profusely. "You think I'm a –" he laughed a little nervously. "Sorry to disappoint, but I'm not a model. I'm a detective. Long hours come with the territory." And now he had to try and make conversation so he didn't seem rude even though he wanted to dash for the door, only a few steps away. It was so CLOSE! "What kind of work do you do, with such odd hours?" he asked awkwardly.
