Week Thirteen: Tuesday
When: Very Early Morning
Where: Towers
Who: Tavin and Jerzy

It had been too long since Tavin had spent a night at the apartment. He knew that Jerzy had noticed his longer then normal hours. He knew the kid wondered, but didn’t question. He knew and yet more often then not, he was still out late and back out early. It wasn’t the first time Tavin got a bit consumed by work but it had been a damned long time since he seemed to put it first. This time around, however, it wasn’t work that really had Tavin’s attention. The last few days he was able to get a few meetings with supernaturals he thought might be able to help his sister out. The trouble was that he had to keep the details rather vague. He wasn’t looking to make it obvious what was going on. Tavin never let his personal life be open and he couldn’t take the risk of tying his name to hers. Not yet.

All in all by the time the night was near over Tavin was frustrated as fuck and less then pleased. He hated the fact that he had to go about things this way. It felt like the past all over again. Where the only methods he had to protect them with was actually damned risky and far from what they actually needed. He fucked it up before, he didn’t want to again. Which made every failed meeting or day with no progress that much harder to take.

The sun would be up in an hour or so. Tavin was slowly making his way back to the towers. His car was parked there already, left in favor or walking to his last meeting. He needed the movement, that way to expel some energy. He needed the time to calm his racing thoughts, to get his act together before the meeting would start. And now…now he needed some time to get that irritation out before he made his way back to the apartment. Would the kid be awake? Tavin didn’t doubt it. Jerzy too often stayed awake waiting for him. Was a nasty habit to get into, made for a lot of sleepless nights. Not that he slept much anyways.

The streets were nearly empty, but in the shadows Tavin could feel the movement of a vampire racing back home and the slight shift to the air as a demon moved nearly unseen in the air not that high above him. It amazed him at times how obvious some of this shit was and how oblivious those few others on the streets right now were. The bum down the way didn’t even blink. The earlier riser catching the bus didn’t look up from her phone. Tavin ignored it all, pausing only for a second to put a cigarette to his lips and light it. It wasn’t what he really wanted, wasn’t even close to enough to start to calm him down. But it was a start. One that would work till he was in his own room.

By the time he got to the towers the cigarette was spent and discarded, snubbed out before the tower doors were pushed open and Tavin cut through the near vacant lobby. The worker at the front desk gave him a nod, Tavin vaguely returned it before finally making his way back to their apartment. How long had it been since he’d stayed for more then an hour? Hell how long had it been since he’d slept?

It was probably a bad thing that he didn’t know the answer to those questions.

At the door Tavin jiggled the keys a bit before opening the door, always gave Jerzy a bit of a heads up that he was home. Kid could get spooked pretty easy. Not that Tavin blamed him leaving here. Was one of the many reasons Tavin had to debate moving already. That was a thought for fucking later though…he was too tired for it right now. “You awake?” Tavin questioned just loud enough to be heard but not so loud it would wake the kid if he wasn’t.

"Yeah." Wide awake in fact. With the help of Ritalin. What? He had ADHD. The shit helped him stay focused. Was it his fault it also helped him stay awake all day and all night too? At the sound of Taavi's voice Jerzy put away the knife he'd grabbed when he heard the jiggling. The knife went back under the cushion where it usually stayed all night with Jerzy. Was usually a good spot for it unless some asshole ghost came and sat right down on top of it. Jerzy started putting the knife under his own cushion then.

He wished he could just stay awake as long as his brother. He knew, or at least had a pretty good idea, how long it had been. More than a week. Jerzy tried to stay awake with him, but invariably when Tavin did come home, for however long, to get showered, change clothes, or whatever, Jerzy would nod off, finally feeling safe enough to lower the defenses that kept him wide awake.

He knew it wasn't work that was keeping Taavi so busy. No, he didn't know what it was, only that is wasn't work. Much as the guy might like his job, he didn't like it that much, so much that he'd let it suck up his entire fucking life.

Yawning, Jerzy nonetheless rose up to stand after pausing his game. This was one of the longest games in history. In some strange half asleep, half awake stuppor he'd find himself in game scenes he didn't remember going into with points he didn't remember gaining. He began to wonder how much of it he was playing and how much was someone else. Tanya was good at waking up when a ghost came in and fucked w/ Jerzy's game though. She'd hiss and alert Jerzy, who would jerk, look around, and find nothing. But he knew the ghosts had been there, he'd catch them fleeing from the corner of his eye. Damn specters always liked to fuck with him, especially since finding out he could see them. Made them feel more real or something.

"Want some cereal?" He asked, moving toward the kitchen. See how well he could fix breakfast? "Pop tarts?"

Tavin hated when the kid was on something. Yeah he understood the reasons, he knew sometimes it helped. But hell if he had to like it. He wanted the kid to be able to be without them. To not be so fucked up by his abilities and all the world around him. Nothing was that easy though. Tavin knew that. Damn did he know that. Generally Tavin knew when the kid was taking meds again and when he wasn’t. Generally Tavin was around enough to notice. But lately that wasn’t the case….yet he could still tell when he came in that the kid hadn’t slept. It was obvious in his features. The slight red of his eyes.

Made Tavin feel like crap. He knew better then to leave the kid alone for long.

“Thought you might be.” Tavin returned, tossing his keys onto the table and tugging off his jacket. Instead of hanging it up like he should have he just tossed it onto a near by chair. IT wasn’t typical of him, most of the time he wanted to ensure his goods and all that were out of sight of the kid. This morning even those extra steps to the bedroom first seemed like too much fucking work.

He was more exhausted then he had thought. That was generally how it worked with Tavin though. He never realized just how tired he was until he finally let himself slow down for a second. Till that point came he could keep himself going for weeks working. More then once it had been needed…but it had been a long time.

Work wasn’t something he’d let take him down to this point. It wasn’t worth it. But family was. He still didn’t know if he should tell Jerzy. He debated the idea, he’d gone back and forth since he spoke with Eliina. One day he was sure he was going to tell him and the next he was convinced he wouldn’t till it was safe. There were risks no matter what he did. And he hated feeling like he was making choices for the kid. That wasn’t how he wanted things to be.

Sometimes it just had to be though.

“What you playing?” Tavin questioned, crossing through the room and giving a glance towards the tv before joining his brother in the kitchen. Of course being joined by Tanya who could never leave him the hell alone. What could she not even give him a minute? Already she was trying to trip him as he walked.

Tavin arched a brow, walking by his brother and pushing some hair away from the kids face. “I’ll cook, been awhile. Chocolate chip pancakes or you want something else?” he was pretty sure he had all the crap for it…though he hadn’t gone shopping in a while. Fuck he needed to do that. Food was rarely something he thought about and at least he brought food home for Jerzy pretty damned often.

Still the fact that Tavin could work was a pretty rare known fact. Wasn’t something he did often or for many. Or hell anyone besides Jerzy. Already he was going through the pantry, trying to figure out what they had…and trying to find some bacon or sausage or something a bit more filling for himself to eat.

Tavin didn't need to worry about it , at least not this time. Jerzy was pretty out of it. Lack of sleep could have crazy affects on people and Jerzy after all, was only human. And Tavin, even if he was more than human, was not the kind of creature that could operate for too long without sleep either. Jerzy knew that and worried as much about Tavin as the older brother did him.

"Uh," He scratched the back of his head and shuffled back to look at the TV. "Silent Hill." Pretty bad that he had completely forgotten in the amount of time it had taken in to stand up, stretch, and walk away from the couch. Probably not the best thing to be playing given where they lived. But it was tame compared to the shit he saw when he left their apartment.

He didn't even notice the little dance between Tavin and Tanya. Which is exactly what he imagined it was to the kitty cat. A dance with her werehuman crush. Taavi just never could quite see it the same way. And of course, the more he tried to discourage the cat, the more Tanya loved him.

"Oh." He blinked when Taavi brushed the hair from his eyes. And now he felt sleepy. Like the touch had been soothing enough to relax him a bit so that he might sleep. After they ate of course. "Sure. And sausage links?" Like Jerzy was going to turn down pancakes.

While Tavin was in the pantry, Jerzy opened the fridge. "Want some milk?" He opened the carton and stuck his nose in it. It smelled ok so he found a dish to pour some in for Tanya, who had taken to doing some other dance now that the milk was out.

There wasn't a day that went by that Tavin didn't worry about the kid. It was just...how things were. Some days he did a lot more then others though. Especially when the kid looked like he did right now. Worn down and exhausted. Tavin had attempted to find things that would make Jerzy feel more comfortable so he could sleep when Tavin wasn't around. But no matter how creative the trick was, it was never enough. That was why Tavin always made such a point about coming back home. At least for a few hours each day. Enough for Jerzy to get some shut eye. This week...it had just been a busy week. A really fucking busy week that didn't get him nearly enough out of it.

Tavin glanced back at the kid when he spoke and could only shake his head "Might want to pick something else for awhile." Jerzy didn't need any help in that being spooked department. The Towers were bad enough but why go out of his way to help set the mood for any ghosts that wanted to come on by? Tavin knew they were there, even if he couldn't see them like his brother. He could feel them at times. That chill. Too bad he hadn't noticed it before he moved them here.

And too bad he hadn't thought about that whole "cat" thing before he agreed to let Jerzy have the annoying fluff ball. One day he was going to end up punting that thing and most likely not mean it. Not his fault that she liked to be right in front of his feet all the time. If he wasn't a werecreature he would have fallen on his face a few times over by now because of her. Needless to say he was glad when Jerzy went for the milk and the cat left him alone for awhile.

Hopefully she'd be preoccupied enough with that for awhile, would make cooking a hell of a lot easier.

"Course and anything else you want that we actually have around here." he'd go out tomorrow, get the kid to make up a list...or attempt. Always turned out to be just a list of sweets but whatever made him happy. Items were quickly beginning to line the counter top. Tavin didn't exactly like to cook but he did a decent job of it. Gourmet meals were out of his range of expertise but he could manage some pancakes. What he really wanted was a steak but that he knew they didn't have.

"Yeah, thanks." Tavin glanced back at Jerzy as he shuffled about the kitchen. Looking a bit like a zombie from his game. He was going to have to make sure that the kid crashed for a good long while after they ate. He'd stick around...he'd make the promise of it. That always got Jerzy to sleep for awhile.

“Miss anything exciting around here?” he questioned as he started mixing things together and getting it all ready. Normally Tavin knew everything that was going on in the city, or at least anything the kid could hear about. But he felt like he’d been just out of it the last week. So damned focus that he’d lost sight of everything else. That was risky. Too damn risky. He knew better.
