Week Twelve: Monday
When: Night
Where: Towers to start
Who: Dimitri and Justine

Dimitri’s time, as of late, was both spent on family and work. While the others within the family were always busy that did not mean that Dimitri was not aware of where they were or what was going on in their lives. All seemed to make it a point to keep aware. But the distraction of work was a well needed thing for him. The Towers did not give him near enough work often, but the last few weeks were busy with talks of possible expansion of the Towers property. There was a company interested in restoring some of the land to make a park behind the towers. Dimitri, of course, had a bit of mixed feelings on the topic. He knew well the sorts of creatures that lived in the depths below the others and was not…completely convinced a park in this location was a wise choice. However though there were risks he did know that many of the supernaturals in the Towers had children and that likely the werecreatures and fae types would enjoy having some nature a bit closer to home.

So far it had come to a bit of a pause, Dimitri speaking that he’d only agree to the park being put on his land if he was allowed sole rights to it after dark. During the day all were welcomed but it was to close at sundown. For all the humans had to know that simply meant none would be there after dark. But Dimitri’s plan was to allow it to the Tower residents at that time. Especially the weres around the full moon. Perhaps if there was a place close where they could roam there would not be so many…attacks around that time.

Still the talks were nothing but busy work. Something to occupy his time but hardly give him anything truly challenging to deal with. Dimitri was the sort of man that needed a bit more activity. A constant need to be on the move and have his hands in various business deals. He did not enjoy the lazy life or sitting idle. He had no idea how his brother had ever been content to simply mill about the towers doing nothing else with his time. It was for these reasons and more that Dimitri was questioning his place here at the Towers.

All thoughts of business and matters of that sort were pushed aside for tonight. Tonight he had plans to have dinner with Justine. His first thought had been to cook something for them. But really Dimitri could use some time outside of the Tower walls and instead had made reservations for them. Neither of them were exactly picky about food, as neither would likely be eating that much. For Dimitri it was far more about the ambience of a place.

It was still a bit early as Dimitri closed the file he was working on and shut down the computer. Early enough that the light was just beginning to fade from the sky to signal the fall of night. It wasn’t the nearing night that stilled his work but more the simple desire to be done with it. It all became so monotonous. Nothing but repetitive acts over and over again. Words that all blurred together, movements that felt near robotic in nature. Something had need to change. He knew that much.

Until his sister arrived Dimitri retired to the library, picking up a book to read that most humans would consider ancient.

If Justine had had her way with this whole Mikkos mess, his return wouldn't have moved her in the way it had, wouldn't have so easily stirred those long-buried emotions in her again. Those decisions she had always so longed for Dimitri to make, those that she had wanted logic to rule over, she saw now why knowing what was right had never simply been enough, why his heart had always made leaving Ophelia behind so difficult. She still didn't wish for the woman to be so close to her family once more, but Justine could at least now sympathize with her brother and the difficulties that lay before him.

As much as she spoke about pushing Mikkos away, as much as she wanted to do just that, his affect on her was still far too obvious for her liking. Why was this not a wound that time alone could heal? It frustrated her to no end, her inability to move past him when he had seemed to do just that with her. He was married, he'd had a son, why couldn't he be content with that, why now had he come to seek her out? Though she could never secretly admit that his return had thrilled her, it had torn open a wound she long to keep healed. She knew the demon well enough to know that until he got whatever it was he wanted of her, he would never leave her be.

All of that wasn't to be dwelled upon tonight and so she pushed it from her thoughts, cleared her head to focus on the evening that lay before her. "There are several in our collection that I've seen to having replaced," she smiled, prone to re-reading the same novels herself, "sometimes I think perhaps we should seal these ancient ones away before they're gone permanently." But then she enjoyed them too much for that and so they remained out and she, time and time again, took them away to her room to pour over. It seemed she and Dimitri were prone to returning to things they cherished.

Once the book was set aside and Dimitri had gathered his things for the night, Justine pausing long enough to grab her coat and purse, the pair made their way down to his garage. Like each of the Baptiste siblings, Dimitri's manners were perfect. Each door he held was acknowledged with a light nod of her head, a soft 'thank you' before Justine continued through, before she slid into the passenger's seat of his car. It was nice to see that he had chosen to drive this evening. While she didn't mind their drivers, at times she preferred it would simply be the family without such outside interference.

"And what establishment have you chosen for us tonight?" He had impeccable taste and, though neither would be eating much, surely it was one of the finer places in town. After all, what little you did eat should be most enjoyable.

Some things in life never did change no matter how you wished them to. Feelings. Habits. Acts. The loves of the past would forever haunt them; wounds often only turned to scars that never fully disappeared. And the ways of how they were raised were ingrained no matter how time changed around them. Yes some things never changed…and Dimitri was both grateful and angered by that fact. But no matter the emotions, it was the truth. All he could do was accept and move forward. Anything else would simply trap him in some endless cycle and he had no time or want for that. He doubted that his sister did either.

But that didn’t mean they couldn’t hang onto bits of the past. Memories worth holding to. “Perhaps we will just have to see to having our entire library copied.” Dimitri offered with a faint smirk as he glanced about the room. Some of the older books they already had to have someone come in and copy word for word. But even those newer copies faded with time. Slowly the pages wore down to nothing and the process had to be repeated. “Perhaps a few times…” extra sets of those beloved books. “Though it’s never really the same is it?” a mimic of a book fallen apart with time. The smell was never the same, the pages always felt different. Try as they might to copy something treasured it truly never measured up. Seemed a fitting description for much anymore.

Dimitri spared little time in taking them out of the condo however, and even less lingering about the Towers halls. He could have stayed a bit speaking with residents or checking in but that was not where his focus was tonight. Or his concern for that matter. He needed out, even if just for a few hours. He needed the time with his family; to help distract his mind far better then the work seemed capable of accomplishing lately. But the quick movements didn’t still his manners, nothing truly did. Nor did it change his sisters own.

There had been a few choices of restaurants for tonight’s meal. Canlis always had suburb food and great atmosphere. Or Dahlia Lounge which always had a rich feel to it. There was also Il Terrazzo Carmine which was a favorite of Dimitri’s. But what he had settled on was the Columbia Tower, since arriving in Seattle he had become a member and often went to the top to enjoy not only the view but the well prepared food. “I reserved us a room at the Columbia Tower, I thought it would give us a better chance to talk.” As there would be no one else around truly except waiters. “And it is difficult to beat the view from there.” And a good view with good food and matching wine…it made for a good night.

“It has been awhile since I have been there.” He remarked as he started up the car and started out of the garage, soon leaving the towers behind him as well as so many thoughts he did not wish to have right now. Or at the least, that was the idea. Who knew how it would work in reality however. “My guess is that it has been for you as well?” he questioned, glancing over at her as they stopped at a red light. It was not that long of a trip to the location, though always taking the few elevators up to the very top of the building took a little time.

"No, I suppose a copy is never as good as the original." And that was true for more than books, she supposed. If she was feeling particularly philosophic, she might muse that the same thought could be applied to the past relationships both seemed on the cusp of repeating. Could this supposed second go around for the both of them ever compare to that first time, that first taste of such intense passion? If fate were to favor them, though they were sure to have more difficulties trying to recapture what had been lost this time, perhaps a second chance would be even more rewarding than the first attempt. Now, more adult, with scars firmly in place, did they stand a better chance then their more 'impulsive' young selves?

Such thoughts were far too distracting for the evening, not to mention more than likely to take away from this quality time with one another. Her last intention was to worry Dimitri over her well-being - should she become quieter, more pensive than usual, she ran the risk of causing needless concern. No, he was with her this evening and he would have her attention. Thoughts of Mikkos, of Ophelia, those could wait to be stewed over another time. Tonight she would not let them interfere. As they pulled away from the Towers, moonlight spilling through the front windshield, Justine thrust all thoughts of past loves from her mind for good.

"I haven't set foot in the Columbia Tower in...ages," and judging from the soft smile that touched to her lips, she was happy to be returning - his guess was certainly correct. It was one of her favorite restaurants in the city for the view alone - to hear that that was part of the reason he had chosen it for them was no surprise, truly. "I have heard a few small renovations have been made to the property," she added as he steered them away from the intersection, "I'll be interested to see what they are." She'd also been trying to convince the owners that purchasing some wine from Chroma's reserves to serve in their establishment would be wise. It seemed the Baptiste siblings had all acquired quite the sense of business in their lifetimes.

"I know business at the Towers has been relatively normal as of late," Justine glanced in her brother's direction as he drove, eyes on his profile, "how are other things in your very private life?" She teased him warmly, affectionately, a smile curling up her lips - it was a bit ironic, really, her saying anything about a private lifestyle, but she wanted to know how things were for him, things outside of the office at the apartments.

“Then it is about time for a return visit no?” Dimitri questioned, allowing the thoughts of before to simply no longer hold weight for tonight. There were other words to be had. Other conversations that could be seen to. Ones that were not so…difficult. Ones that did not tug at the emotions so. Dimitri, after all, was not the sort of man that put all he felt out there on a platter for all to see. He was more reserved then that, preferring that demeanor of calm and control to be what others saw in him. Being a business man like he was, that was exceptionally important. More so in previous business ventures then his…current situation however.

“They have, it seems a common theme for the city this year. Everyone seeking to improve on what they already have, trying to draw people in more and more.” Though with the Columbia Towers it was more trying to impress their high class members more and more. Dimitri could not say he minded of course, not when it worked to his advantage. “I’m sure they will all be pointed out the moment we arrive.” Though Dimitri and his sisters hadn’t been in the city too long their names were known and most sought to cater to them when they arrived at any establishment. “Perhaps even those important names will be milling about tonight.” And by those, of course, he meant any that would have say on which wines were used and which were not. Never hurt to casually run into a business contact or two.

“Normal…” Dimitri mused the word with a faint tone of amusement. Yes for a supernatural building it was quiet…normal lately. So completely and totally…stagnant. “It has been, a bit too much in fact. I suppose I can not complain as things are going well.” But it was obvious by his words alone that while he shouldn’t complain there was a part of him that did wish to. That part of him that craved for far more then this city seemed capable of providing.

The only true adventures it seemed, as of late, were chasing down ghosts that were set on causing a scene. The city had his…peaks, its interesting points. But Dimitri rarely was content in sitting still or settling down. That was a life that Julien had wanted, not Dimitri.

Her inquiry on his private life did make him arch a brow just slightly “When has my life held much of a “private life” truly? Let alone one you and the others aren’t aware of?” No since his arrival here at the city there had not been much to be considered all that private in his life. Women came and went but none lingered for more then a night truly. None held his interest. None had that…spark that drew him in. There were a few friends of sorts in the city. Those he had dinners with or saw shows. But he often let himself be consumed by work. Work that before, took more time then his current line of work.

"I believe it is, yes," Justine nodded with a warm smile. Tonight would be an evening spend in the company of her brother, enjoyed for the beauty of their surroundings and the far more light-hearted conversations they would surely have. After all, neither was truly the type that wished to lay their emotions out within plain view. Surely there were other things of interest that they could discuss.

"There has been a lot of activity in the city as of late," she agreed. Several of the establishments around Chroma alone had been undergoing renovations in the past few months, probably trying to make the most of whatever time they might have before summer brought with it the tourist crowds. "There was something similar to a press release I noticed about a week ago detailing some of the more upscale improvements they've made. Some of them are quite impressive, I'm sure they'll want to guarantee that we notice them." Very rarely was such a large amount of money spent without pointing out just where it had gone to your more illustrious patrons.

Perhaps normal had been a poor choice for words, though things had been about as normal as they could be at the Towers. The cynical side of Justine couldn't help but feel as though things might be building towards a breaking point. Other than a bit of the tumultuousness of her own life, very little seemed to be 'stirring the waters' - surely that would only hold out for so long. She had to wonder what it would be that would break the streak...

"I may know a bit, but we all have secrets, Dimitri. I suppose it's only fair I let you keep yours that way," she teased him with a playful smile. She had no intention of spilling all of the details of her life as of late and she truly hadn't thought he'd do the same. It was easy to monitor what each of them was up to, given their close living quarters, and they all seemed to understand not to push for much more than that. Justine, like him, was too easily drawn in by work, very little time was spent on social calls around the city. Truly, though, she didn't mind - it was a lifestyle she'd gotten used to.

“That itch to expand and change things about seems to have spread through the entire city from what I’ve seen.” Dimitri agreed with a simple nod of his head “It’s of little surprise though; this city has room for a lot of growth…if it’s done right.” He’d seen far too many human cities crumble because in that rush for more they did not do things correctly. Even Seattle had its share of such moments…building atop the old city to make the new. Of course that fact worked in the supernaturals favor for now. “So long as they continue to go up and out rather then…down there shouldn’t be any trouble with such expansion.”

Dimitri knew, however, that such times of that world down below would eventually come to an end. Humans, though often oblivious, did not always stay as such forever. One pushy sort could plant the seed and though it may be years down the line before it really took root…it always eventually did. It was a day that he was not eager to come. Though, like many, there were times when that hiding in the open grew tiresome, he did not know if he truly believed that living together was the best of choices. Humans and their ways…it did not often mesh well with their kind. The clash could be…disastrous.

“I suppose in a way we do. But perhaps my lack of thought upon them only proves how boring my own are hmm?” he questioned with an arch of the brow and a subtle smirk upon his lips. Dimitri would not claim to hold any deep dark secretes from his sisters. He attempted to live his life open when it came to them. The only truly unspoken words were ones upon their sire and that was less of a secret and more simply touchy ground. Lies and secrets, when you lived this long, seemed pointless things. And tiffs over small matters were even more so. That was why, long ago, the family had ceased to bother with it. They lived their lives, sometimes doing things the others did not like, sometimes not. But few put up much fuss. Not unless they thought the family was at risk. Otherwise it was simply the others life to do with what they wished.

“I’m sure it’s been rather apparent that a “social life” hasn’t been my top most priority since arriving in this city.” He shrugged vaguely, that fact not truly bothering him any. But it wasn’t long before they were to their destination, Dimitri allowing another to park the car. He much preferred to do things himself but when it came to Seattle parking was never a joy and as he much rather spend his time upstairs with his sister then in the car, he let it go.

Out of the car he held the door open for his sister, starting their trek up the elevators to soon bring them to the top. Where of course they were greeted with smiles and a flurry of hellos, welcomes, and would you like to be shown around? Just as Dimitri thought they would. He looked at Justine, a smirk of amusement touching his features before he agreed to the tour. Yes of course they’d go through the motions of making an appearance first.

Eventually, yes, some human would want to drill beneath the city, to dig down under the surface for some reason and the more private arenas of supernatural life would be discovered. Justine, like Dimitri, had no desire to still be around to see such an event take place, but chances were that she would be if it was at all in the forseeable future. Seattle had been good to the Baptiste children so far, Justine could perhaps see herself staying until people began to wonder - that was usually what tended to push supernaturals to move on, after all, humans taking notice of how they never seemed to age. It was a side effect that tended to draw the most attention, as it was the most obvious sign of just how different they truly were.

"Perhaps it does," she smiled warmly. After so many years, it was easy to stop recognizing secrets as just that. None of the siblings truly went that far out of their way to hide things from one another, but it seemed natural to assume that there were things each kept from the others - perhaps not on purpose, but subconsciously, knowing that the others might not approve. Ophelia was such an issue and, at once, Justine felt a bit bad for having given Dimitri such a difficult time over her continued presence on the fringe of their lives. She had tried to make it clear that he could do with his life what he wished, she simply wouldn't stay around this time to watch the woman try and rip them apart. Perhaps Ophelia had changed, perhaps it would be different this time, but it would take Justine awhile to come to terms with such huge changes. In the end, she simply wanted her brother happy - whatever that might mean.

"Yes," she sighed playfully as she unbuckled her seatbelt to step from the car, "you've really become so dull in your old age." Justine walked with him towards the restaurant's entrance, thanking him with a soft smile as he held the door for her to pass. The lengthy elevator ride was next, the bombardment on behalf of the hostesses not far off either. Each and everyone seemed so thrilled to have the pair within their establishment for the night and, like Dimitry had predicted, they wanted to show off all the new little additions that had been made.

Some of them were truly lovely, new glassware, new artwork in the dining area, reprinted menus and a change or two to the entree list. It took nearly 20 minutes to show off all of the improvements made before their guide showed the two to a table, set off a bit from other patrons, and excused herself to alert their server that they had arrived. "Well," she settled across from him with a smile, "it seems you were right, after all, they did want to show off a bit, didn't they?"

Dimitri did not know if he had plans to linger in Seattle long enough for humans to begin to take notice that he had not aged a day since his arrival. It had been the plan of course, when he first returned he spoke that he would stay. But plans did not always stay as you thought they would. And for Dimitri much had changed since his arrival here. Too much in a way. No matter how old he got some changes still could rock him. Making him question all he did and why he did it. Still there was no denying that the city had treated them well and Dimitri made contributions, under the Baptiste name, to the city rather often. Of course such money had to be spent away from the towers. He’d keep that secret safe as long as he could.

A smirk danced upon his lips at the words. Yes perhaps indeed. Dimitri couldn’t say he really minded that fact however. It was too much work to try to keep such deep dark secrets for so long. Plus that was simply not how the family worked, it never had been. The moment they began to really hide from each other was the moment that they ceased to be as close. The moment that things began to truly start to break apart. Dimitri feared that of course, how could he not? They were a part of his life for centuries now and with Julien gone he was faced with the harsh reality of just how difficult it would be to continue on without them. Which was why, no matter how difficult the choice, when it came to choosing between sire and family….he eternally picked family.

“In my old age?” Dimitri remarked with an arch of the brow “I’ve always been dull.” Of course that was far from the case. While always a bit…reserved after the beginning years of his life Dimitri had that streak for adventure and the need to explore that more then once got him into a bit of trouble when he was young. But as you got older those small adventures no longer held the same thrill and bigger sorts tended to not only take you away for far longer spans of time…but rarely put just yourself at risk. But in a family such as theirs putting your own life at risk automatically put at risk the others.

It wasn’t long before they were whisked away into the tour. A show of this and that and this other thing. Dimitri, the professional, questioned what they thought he would question and generally went along for the show. He didn’t truly care about such little changes as glassware but he understood how it could make a company proud to better their establishment. So he respected what they did and how they were proud of it. Thankfully it was not some long drawn out process and eventually the pair were brought to one of the private rooms that had the best view. Just as Dimitri requested. The main dinning room was lavish and beautiful but Dimitri wanted to ensure they got the best view in the city.

“Of course, businesses are all the same in the end really. No matter how big or small.” The act of business really hadn’t changed that much over the years. Subtle differences in currency or people but all in all…it was the same basic ideas. “I think I’ll need a tour next time I’m at Chroma…” he continued as he took a sip of the wine poured by the waitress for the night “I’m sure there have been many changes there too non? Always bettering what we have…or attempting to.” Dimitri did not go to his sisters establishments nightly or anything of that sort. Each needed their own space. Their own time.

If there was one thing Justine had gleaned from all the lifetimes the siblings had seen together, it was to plan loosely if at all. She had no plans to leave Seattle and so, for now, she simply assumed she'd stay. She awoke each evening with the knowledge that any day could bring about an occurrence that would send her to packing, setting off for somewhere new. She considered that, perhaps, it might be nice to stay in one place for awhile, to linger in Seattle until it became dangerous to do so, but to hope in such a way seemed bound to tempt fate to force the opposite to occur. For now, she was at least content with the life she'd built here so far, only time would tell what would come next.

It seemed that the Baptiste siblings' lives were forever intertwined. At times, their survival had depended upon tightening those bonds until they were an impenetrable force for any outsider to try and penetrate. At others, they left themselves only loosely linked, each one content to venture off and create their own life, forge their own existence, though they never completely lost touch with one another. It seemed their lives were fated to forever remain connected in some form - the loss of Julian had showed them all what life could be like without the support of the rest of them.

The tour suspended their conversation for the moment, for a bit longer than that, truly. It was a bit dull, seeing all of the minor improvements that had been made. Perhaps, had she not been more interested in sitting down for dinner with her brother, she might have found something on the tour worth noting. As it was, she simply waited until it had drawn to a close and the pair was delivered to their table. Justine settled in across from Dimitri, relieved to find that now they would be left alone for awhile. It didn't hurt that he'd made sure the view they had was stunning, with all of Seattle illuminated for the evening below them.

Justine couldn't help but smile lightly at the mention of changes being made at Chorma - it was true, no business in the city seemed safe from the renovation trend. "Oui, there have been a few alterations. I'd be more than happy to arrange a tour, though I'm sure it would be just as dull as the one we just took," she teased him lightly. Each sibling had their own project to fill much of their evenings and rarely did such things cross, allowing for them to have at least some private time, some sort of private life.
