Entry tags:adian, hale, vallis

Week One: Tuesday
Who: Hale, Adian, and Vallis
When: Evening
Where: Old Town Towers, seventh floor hallways, and Hale's apartment
What: Neighbors getting acquainted, isn't that nice?

"Perhaps if you hadn't offered to pay her afterwards, then she might have agreed to return home with you. Honestly, Vallis. Not all women are prostitutes." It had been rather obvious, that Vallis had used his gift against the woman. Why else would she have crawled beneath the table of a five star restaurant, and tended to him, with her mouth. At least he had been conscious enough of their surroundings, to keep his voice down. They didn't need to draw the attention of the other patrons, she was sure they all ready stuck out as it was. He'd been insistent, that they have the finest table in the restaurant, throwing money around carelessly, in some idiotic attempt to prove his deserving of it. Adian was quickly learning, that he was a great embarrassment. Though, it worried her more, that so many were willing to bend to the will of his money... even herself, though she was not quick to admit it. Her reasons, did not lie with his money, solely. It had it's perks, she couldn't deny that, but rather his connection to her sire. If she were to seek anyone out, it would be him, her brother.

With an ego, as large as his, any bruise it received, was felt in volumes. It had always been this way for Vallis. He was vain, and expected that alone, to catch any womans attention. If that wasn't bait enough, he could always convince them, that they wished to do nothing more, than please him. The gift, it seemed, he had a struggle with, after copulation. The aftermath of an orgasm, usually left a man shaken for a moment. A vampire was no different. It had been in these moments, that the woman had slipped from her stuper. Such a bruise had been received this night, and he didn't exactly appreciate his pet, adding more pressure to it. "Any woman can be a prostitute, at the right price. Even you, Adian. You think far too highly of yourself, when the truth is, that you, and all those in possession of a cunt, are no better than the whores, walking the streets." He hissed, moving around the song bird, as the two walked from the lift.

Those normally pouty lips, became a rather thin line. Once more, she had to question her desire to be around him. Was it really all worth it? With each day that passed, her reason wore down. "You give women far too little credit, and yourself too much. This line of thinking, may have been suitable in your day, and age, but things have changed. Not everyone can be bought." Rather annoyed at this point, her hand moved into the enterer of her hand bag, searching out the apartment key. The sooner she could have Vallis from her sight, the better. "I've never meet a man, who can seem so charming one moment, and then next, be the biggest piece of shit, that ever existed."
The dark blue heels, clicked across the floor, as she walked, sounding a bit more heavy, due to her new found anger. The dress, a gift from Vallis, that she wished she hadn't expected. Every thing in her closet was a reminder of how persuasive he could be. How manipulative.

Before she was able to reach the door, his arm shoot forward, the palm of his hand, pressed against the wall. Haulting her steps. "Ma beauté... if you have no right, to speak of me in such a way. Your mouth, in my opinion, has two purposes. To sing, and bob between my thighs. If you do not mind your tongue, I will make sure, that it is used for nothing more. Are we at an understanding, Adian, l'amour?" She wasn't allowed to answer, his hand rose, so that two fingers laid across her lips. "A nod will do."

For once, it had been a tame day at work. There had been a few witnesses to interview in a case he was assigned to, but for the most part it was paperwork. Dull, dull, dull. As a result, Hale was bursting with energy when he returned to the apartment complex in the evening after grabbing a bite to eat in town with some friends from the department. He figured he should spend the night unpacking. Well, finishing the process. He had the big things put away, but the place could do with some major organization. He'd moved in a week ago and even for a bachelor like Hale, a week in that kind of clutter was a little much.

He'd taken off his leather bomber jacket at the door, leaving his badge and holster visible. The black button-down shirt and dark-wash blue jeans with black boots were his normal work outfit, give or take a little on the color. Professional but not too... up tight. Plainclothes was the way to go. As he reached the upper flights of stairs, his cell phone rang. He answered it. "Detective Everard. Yes. Yes. Of course. The papers are on your desk. I tried to get a trace on the phone number this afternoon but it was a cell, the account has been disconnected. Yep. All right. See you tomorrow, captain." He hung it up and put it back in his pocket. Such phone calls came at all hours, even when he was sleeping. It was all part of the job.

By the time he reached his floor, the warmth of the building had driven him to roll his sleeves up around his elbows. Just before he reached the landing, he heard voices. A man's, more precisely, speaking crudely. Who would say such a thing to a woman? Already feeling hot beneath the collar, he rounded the corner to see a man blocking a woman's path, effectively pinning her against a wall.

He cleared his throat, loudly, taking a few steps in that directon. If he was interrupting a consensual game, he was sure they could pick up where they left off in their apartment. If not, well, this asshole shouldn't get away with this.

Their acute hearing, had allowed them some knowledge that they would soon have company. Though one could never be sure of who, until they were in sight. Adian merely glared up at Vallis, before her own hand rose, to push away his fingers. "Don't you dare touch me with those dirty things, I have no clue what you might have stuck them in." Ducking under his arm, her head turned, so that she would be able to view their guest. "Forgive us, he has the manners of a pig. Actually, that's insulting to the pig." Adian's confidence had risen, with the appearance of the other. She knew Vallis would never harm her, without good reason. Though, good reason in his mind could be questionable. Now that they were not alone, she knew he wouldn't lay a finger on her. Plus, with the obvious badge, and gun, she felt a bit more at ease. Hopefully he was a good cop, rather than a crooked one.

"Vous la petite chienne, comment vous oser! You think, because he is here, that I will not change my mind? Foolish, that's what you are, Adian." His eyes moved to the stranger, "Yes? Do wish to say something?" He was not intimidated by the fact, that he was with the law. He was in no position to do anything, nothing more than words had been passed, and that was not a crime. "Or shall you continue to stare? Vous dites que je n'a pas de manière, Adian? Le flic est le l'un qui impoliment nous a interrompu si." His hand lowered, as he stepped away from the wall, fishing his own set of keys, from within the pocket of his coat.

With a dramatic roll of the eyes, she stood back, her lips curling ever so slightly, when she noticed of flustered he was becoming. "No, Vallis, your manners are far worse. He, on the other hand, seems to be concerned, and that, though you may have never witnessed it, in your existence, is caring. I've certainly never seen you show an ounce of it." Again, her eyes returned to the man, and she offered him a little wink. "Are you our neighbor? I haven't seen you around the building yet, but I do understand, that some one recently moved in. It must be you." Once more, her heels clicked across the floor, as she approached him, a hand extended. "I'm Adian Bishop. That pile of shit, is Vallis Frey. Remember the name, you might find need to arrest him some day."

Hale still wasn't used to living around supernaturals. In fact, he wasn't aware that they had more acute hearing and senses than he did or anything of the sort, for that matter. But he was, however, relieved with the young woman pushed away from the man and seemed to make a stand for herself. She obviously knew him, this wasn't a random 'attack,' from the looks of it didn't seem to be an attack at all so much as an altercation between a particularly beautiful woman and a particularly demonstrative asshole. The fact that she spoke to him with an edge of sarcasm wither meant she knew he wouldn't hurt her, or thought he might and was just stupid. Either way, he wasn't ready to pass judgment yet. Keeping options open seemed the best bet. Even off duty, it was hard to turn off the cop senses. Protectiveness was ingrained in him, and something about this guy just rubbed him wrong.

"No, forgive me," he said politely, deciding to play it nice until the situation demanded otherwise. "I didn't mean to walk up on anything. Appears I just rounded the corner at an inopportune time." And then the pig spoke, and Hale didn't want to play it nice so much any more. "Actually, yes. Do you always make it a habit of pinning ladies against a wall? Didn't look like she was enjoying it to me. The lady can correct me if I'm wrong." He didn't think he was, and she at least seemed the type to stand up for herself.

Well, wasn't this a lovely way to meet the neighbors. She lived with this piece of shit? What the hell was this girl thinking? Bastard was setting off warning bells in Hale's head and he had the means to protect himself, but a wisp of a girl like her? As far as he knew, she wouldn't stand a chance. He had no idea she held the vampire card. Her wink only worried him more, but he managed a guise of a smile. "Adian, it's a pleasure," he said, grasping her hand to shake it firmly. "I'm Hale Everard. And I hope I don't have to arrest your friend. I work homicide." On the final word, he cast a withering glance at the other man.

"Vallis always makes a moment, inopportune. It's really nothing that you could have avoided." She reassured him with a little smile, folding her hands together before her, as she stood between the two men, though her eyes didn't stray from Hale. Adian didn't normally admire men in this way, but Hale was handsome. His line of work was extremely appealing, and he was proving himself to be a gentleman, more, and more by the second. What girl could resist that? " I can't say I was enjoying it, no. No one likes bully." With every word she spoke, she knew it would just twist, and twist Vallis into a higher state of annoyance. Yes, she was enjoying it.

"What I do with my... ladies, is none of your business, sir. If you knew who I was, you would not question me so." This foolish human, he thought so much of himself, because of the simple title he possessed. Vallis was not impressed "I mean her no harm, she is my pet." Vallis gave his hand a dismissive wave, standing back, as he was obviously expecting Adian to return to his side. "I'm no bully, Adian. Don't put on, because he is here. Now, come along..." He was eager to leave the mans company, he didn't appreciate someone nosing into his affairs.

Adian didn't budge, her back remained to Vallis, as she continued to smile at Hale. She made no attempt to hide the fact that she was... inspecting him. Or admiring, perhaps would be a better word. "Pleasure indeed, Hale." After releasing his hand, she turned to glance back to the brooding vampire. "I'd hang onto to it, just in case." Vallis was old fashioned, he seemed to forget that blood banks existed. Though, she gathered that he likely enjoyed taking blood from it source, while it was still warm. If he found a woman willing, that was all fine, and well. He hadn't killed anyone, in they time they'd been together. When her attention returned to the new arrival, she stepped forward. "No need to wait on me, Vallis. You're a big boy, you have a perfect understanding, of how the keys work." Best to let him cool off on his own for a time. "Hale, how are you enjoying your new home?" Vallis may not want to be welcoming of the new neighbor, but she did. There was something about this man, that she rather liked.

Hale nodded along with Adian, glad that she was standing up for herself at least, but wishing that she would at least be careful. He knew from his work on his previous task force that situations like this, even when the woman acted strong in front of others, that the man often got violent, even dangerously so, behind closed doors. He didn't want her to show up on his list of victims later on.

"If I knew who you were?" Hale asked incredulously, unable to hold back a laugh. "I don't give a goddamn who you are, no one should treat a lady like that. She's a person, not a pet. Get a dog if you want to train something to be obedient." He shook his head, seething. He was just the type of narcissistic dirtbag who's 'work' Hale cleaned up off the streets every day.

Once the wave of anger passed, he noticed that Adian was looking. And he might have blushed a little. After all, he was a workaholic who didn't get out much and she was a beautiful woman who also fit (at least somewhat) the damsel in distress category that he adored so much. If only he could stop worrying that the douchebag would murder her--or worse. "I've enjoyed it, what little time I've spent here," he replied with a smile, toying with the idea of inviting her in for a drink. Only to get her away from the scum in her own apartment, of course. Not for any of his own devious reasons.

"I'm not surprised, you do not. You're class wouldn't permit the knowledge." He said in a bored tone. "That all depends, on what you consider a lady, and she is my pet. Though, a dog would likely be far less bothersome. La petite chienne est extrême trop désobéissante. Peut-être je dois l'acheter un col, non?" Vallis didn't appreciate being ignored, especially for another man.. A human man, at that. Now, he had made a promise to Adian, that he would not tamper with her mind. Tampering, was all together different, from reading her thoughts. In his youth, when the gift had first become evident, it was chaotic, and unorganized. Almost like a radio, picking up more than one station at a time. This, had been another reason why he had sought out solitude. To escape the constant prattle, which threatened to drive him mad. Now, however, it was something he could tap into, and turn off with an ease. In fact, he rather enjoyed his gift now. It allowed him to manipulate people. If he appeased to their deepest desires, it would make them more willing to fall into his grasp. Without any provocation, Vallis erupted in laughter, "Oh, Adian... you can not be serious, pet." With an all too amused expression, he approached the two. "You think he is handsome?"

She turned sharply, glaring dangerously at the vampire. Adian didn't care that Hale knew that she found him attractive, she hadn't exactly been hiding the fact that she may be interested. However, she could not tolerate, Vallis dipping into her mind. "So what if I do? He is handsome. And unlike you, Vallis, he is a gentlemen." Her voice remained quite level. "You are such a child, at times. If someone is not paying you the full attention, that you believe you require, you treat them, as if they are disposable. You can not do that, Vallis." Yes, she was daring him to argue with her here. To just say enough, that he might earn himself a visit from several officers. "I think you should retire for the evening, before you get yourself into trouble."

Even if she did challenge him in such a way, he'd never raise a hand to her. For one, battery wasn't his style. His torture was emotional, and mental. Which would be just as damaging, if not more. Also, if Roslin happened to find them one day, and he had harmed Adian in anyway, Vallis would be punished for it. He'd slept with her, he knew that alone was enough to insure her wrath. After giving Hale a little smile, he focused upon the girl once more. "I shall retire, but know this... Votre essayer me, devient vieux, Adian. A moins que vous commencez à jouer par mes règles, je vous lancerai de côté, et faire vraiment sûr, que Roslin ne sait jamais de vous." Stepping back, he gave them a little bow of his head, before turning away. "Oh, you may wish to know... she prefers cunt." Without another word, he left the two.

Crossing her arms over her chest, she faced Hale once more, offering him an apologetic smile. "He's a brat, if you can't tell." Trying to push what Vallis had said from her mind, she again focused on what Hale had been saying, before they'd been interrupted. "I'm pleased to hear, that your stay has thus far been enjoyable. I hope it continues to be so." She too hoped that he wouldn't have to encounter Vallis often, seeing as he normally ruined ones day. Did he really not know why she spent so much time away from the apartment, and him? During the day, it wasn't avoidable, there was no venturing out. But as soon as the sun set, she was gone. "He was being honest, though. I do find you to be handsome, I hope you don't mind." As for the other bit of information he felt the need to share, well, normally that was true as well, but there was always the exception.

(Vallis: The little bitch is far too disobedient. Perhaps I should buy her a collar, no?-- Your trying me, is becoming old, Adian. Unless you begin to play by my rules, I'll cast you aside, and make damn sure, that Roslin never knows of you.)

"She's a human. Humans aren't pets," he said, his tone low, serious, dangerous. Vallis was treading on subjects that Hale took very seriously. He had seen too many women torn apart--emotionally and literally--by men like him. He had a dog, and he wouldn't tread Blue like the men he'd come across in his line of work treated other human beings. Vallis seemed to fit the profile. Textbook son-of-a-bitch, if you asked Hale, but he was no criminal psychologist. And what the fuck was he doing, picking up on her signals or something? Or was he some supernatural something or other like Nox and he were, really reading her mind? Not that he wasn't flattered, but it was still a little bit off-putting that it was Vallis pointing it out so awkwardly.

And yes, he was trying to hide the fact that he was flattered by her attention. It wasn't too incredibly hard to keep the reaction from going further than a blush since he was still very much caught up in the moment. Vallis was obviously unhappy, and an unhappy person with what Hale percieved his personality to be was rarely a good thing to get distracted around.

Vallis' smile was off-putting, and Hale returned it with a steely gaze. He wished he spoke French so that he could understand whatever nasty things he was surely saying, because he could tell from Adian's reaction that it hadn't been pleasant. His final words--that she preferred cunt-- were immature enough to elicit a roll of Hale's eyes. He normally wasn't the sort, but the fact that Vallis had thought it necessary to inform him of that insinuated that Hale was planning on trying to get in Adian's pants. Everything really must be about pleasure for Vallis--his pleasure, at least. Hale preferred making a connection first. Maybe that made him less of a man in the eyes of those like the one who was now walking into his apartment, but he didn't spend too many sleepless nights worrying about that.

Now that the cause of all the internal warning bells had left the immediate area, Hale could let his guard down and relax. He uncrossed his arms and let them fall to his side, a bit of a smile coming to his face as she apologized for him, though it was more of a sad smile than a laughing one. It wasn't right for her to have to apologize for him, but he didn't think it was his place to say anything, not when he'd only known her for a few minutes. If she was willing to change the subject, though, he was more than willing to follow suit. "Of course I don't mind," he said, smile becoming less sad and more bashful. "But do you mind me asking... how did he know?" He couldn't tell by looking if she was any sort of supernatural. He knew that there were others. Nox was a demon after all, and he was a shapeshifter. He knew there were werewolves and vampires, and probably other things that might could even read minds. But he didn't know what.

"And if you want to give him some time to cool down before you go home and you don't mind a bit of a mess, I have drinks in the apartment among the things I have managed to unpack," he said, laughing a bit as he heard a bark from inside his apartment. "And a dog, who has heard me talking out here and is impatient for me to come home, apparently."

The heartbeat was telling, and ever present in her mind. It was one thing, that a vampire seemed to pick up on, and the heartbeat of a supernatural, differed some what, from a human. She focused on his for a moment, noting that it seemed to be a hair quicker. He wasn't human, but she wasn't sure what just yet. "He... can read, and manipulate thoughts. It's his gift. His way to torture, as well." Her eyes lowered at that, as she again wished she had some way of shaking him off, but with his extreme age, it wasn't possible. "He, and I are vampires, you see. Not humans." Though, he had still been right, she was no pet. Even if Vallis saw her as such. Pets were supposed to be good company, and she did all she could, to be opposite of that. Adians gift was a far stretch from Vallis', something which she was grateful for. Though, it could at times, be as damaging. Though, it could also being intoxicating. It all depended on how she wished to use it.

"Valllis is a very rude man, he holds no restraint, when it comes to using his gift against others. I actually wouldn't be surprised if he slipped into your thoughts as well." Though, he made no mention whether he did, or not. He may not have wished to risk it. It would likely have been the first smart thing he'd done in some time. Then again, he had felt the need to mention her sexual preference, so perhaps he had seen something. Hale didn't seem the type to walk about with his brain constantly in his trousers, so it could be a simply return of attraction. Vallis would assume the worst of other men, seeing that he too thought of only carnal pleasures. "Oh, I don't bite, by the way." Some people were very put off by the idea of vampires, so she thought it best to nip any issue now. "I'm actually... fairly nice." She gave a little laugh, as if it would be something hard to believe. Though it might be, considering the company she kept.

"Drinks would be lovely, thank you." Reaching up, she tucked a short brunette curl behind her ear, before smiling. Adian had grown up in a small home, with a large family, mess was something she was rather used to. Besides, Vallis insisted that everything remain so neat, and sterile, it would be nice to settle into a place, that actually looked lived in for a change. "Our home is a bit like a museum. It's horrible actually." Vallis had a large collection of ancient goods, which he had collected over the years. Rare pieces, which belonged in a museum, yet he had not been able to part with. "A dog? I love dogs, we had two when I was growing. Labradors, they loved to swim in the sea with us." Some of the few fond memories of childhood, had been of swimming in the sea with her siblings, and their dogs. "I haven't had one in ages. Far too much traveling, until recently."

Read and manipulate thoughts? Great. So not only did he seem to be a textbook case of a dangerous criminal, but he could control and get into other people's heads. Just brilliant. Hale made a distinct mental note to keep his eye out for that one. "Vampires," he repeated, nodding. He wasn't too startled by that, since he knew they existed, of course. He had been far more shocked to find out about demons, to be perfectly honest. Didn't change the fact that she wasn't his pet, though. "I'm not exactly a human, either," Hale said. "I'm a shapeshifter. Well, half."

"Rude is an understatement," Hale agreed, and was very disconcerted at the fact that Vallis might have dipped into his thoughts. "He can read anyone's mind? Manipulate anyone? That's scary." He couldn't think of another word to describe it. But it was good that she didn't bite. "Good that you don't bite though. That... wouldn't be a good thing." It wasn't hard to believe that she was nice, though. At least in Hale's opinion, she made a good first impression despite the company she kept. In fact, next to Vallis she looked like an angel.

"Labradors, huh? I had one of those growing up. Blue, my dog, is a great dane puppy. Little bigger, but she's sweet." He smiled and took his keys from his back pocket, gesturing for her to follow him to his door a few paces down the hall. He unlocked the entryway and Blue, his great dane puppy, came bursting into the hallyway, jumping onto him and licking his face. "Hey girl," he said, scratching behind her ears and giving her a hug. "Let's go get some dinner, huh?" She ran into the house, skidding on the wood floor as she went for the kitchen. "Sorry, Adian. She's got a lot of energy," he said, smile on his face. "But it's good that you love dogs, she'll most likely love you. Please, come in," he said, holding the door open for her. The place wasn't as much of a mess as he'd implied, there was just a few unpacked boxes packed in the corner of the living room. The couch was clear, and he motioned toward it. "Have a seat if you'd like. I need to feed Blue, and I'll grab us something to drink. Wine all right with you? I've got Pinot Grigio if you prefer white and shiraz if you prefer red. Not too much of a selection, I'm afraid," he said, an edge of apology to his voice.

"Yes, your heartbeat is different from that of a human." A hand extended upwards, tapping against the sapphire earring she wore. "I can hear it, you see. It's like a faint song, always present." It did at times, come in handy. A persons heart rate changed depending on the situation. It quickened, when they felt excitement, or anger. You could gage their reaction, to your actions that way. "Yes, vampires. You've meet our kind before, I take it. You're not the least bit surprised." Adian had never meet a shapeshifter before, not that she could recall. "Are you? That is different from a were, I take it?"

It was, and Hale had only seen a small window into just how rude Vallis could be. Try living with him every day. It may just drive her insane eventually. Hopefully, she would be well away from him, before it ever reached that point. "Anyone younger than him. Those with age above his own, he says it's more taxing, and at times doesn't work. Though, I doubt there are many around, who are older." It was scary. A gift such as that, in the hands of a man like Vallis, is was down right dangerous. Smiling, she nodded, "Yes, well, I have far too much respect for humans, and other supernaturals. I dislike the idea of preying upon someone. I think that is a behavior for cowards." Which was why her blood came from those disgusting little bags. It wasn't the same as taking from a person, but it would have to do.

There was no hesitation to follow, and as the door opened, and the pup came spilling into the hallway, she couldn't help but lightly laugh. "A harlequin as well. Beautiful dogs." There was something all together adorable, about such a lanky pup. An obviously happy one, whom loved her owner, who loved her in return. "I don't mind at all. Puppies are supposed to be bounding with energy." When the invitation rose to enter, she did just that, watching in amusement, as the dog followed him into the kitchen. "Thank you." It was normally to take in the new surroundings, and she did just that. No, it was no mess, but still vastly different from their own home. It was warm, and inviting. "Wine would be lovely, thank you. I'm partial to red, I must admit." Her heels tapped against the wooden floors, as she approached the sofa. "It's quite all right, I'm not too picky." Good wine, was good wine. Sitting down on the couch, her legs immediately crossed, as she rested back into the cushions. It was a relief to be away from Vallis, that alone put her at ease.

"My hearbeat is different? I didn't know that," Hale said. Learned something new every day. And she spoke so eloquently. He didn't really have that way with words. "Not surprised, no. I don't know that I've met a vampire before, but I know you exist. I know of other supernaturals. One of my friends on the force is a demon, my dad's cousin was a werewolf. But yeah, I'm different from a were. I'm not tied to the moon, and I can shift into any type of animal that's similar to my size. Also, I keep my own instincts. Like, if I were to shift into a wolf right now, I wouldn't be able to talk to you but I wouldn't feel the urge to attack. I would still think like a human. I'd have to shift back fairly quickly though. It's exhausting to stay in animal form for too long."

"How old is he?" Hale asked, curiously. He knew that vampires could get to be very old. He looked younger than he was because shapeshifters aged more slowly, but vampires didn't age at all and that had to make it hard to judge them. He definitely had an air of entitlement though that went far past the old-fashioned gentlemen and went back to what seemed like a medieval view of how an upper-class man should be seen. And how women should be treated. "Respect is a good thing," Hale said, smiling. "And you're right, preying on people, especially those weaker, is cowardly. Especially when there are other means of survival. Aren't there people who willingly... donate? Let you bite them?" he asked. He'd heard stories of such, but he wasn't sure about it, or if it was legal. Even if it wasn't, he wasn't going to report it unless there was some outstanding reason to.

"Harlequin? Oh, right, the woman at the ASPCA told me that. I just rescued her the day after I moved in. She's new, but she's settled right in. Her owners gave her up because she was too big," he said, talking loudly from the kitchen as he poured the dog food into her bowl. She walked around the tile floor, pushing the bowl with her nose as she ate. "Guess they didn't know that the 'great' in Great Dane meant big. Was just walking through the shelter, going to get a small dog, and couldn't pass her up. So I wound up bringing Blue home." He took off his badge and removed his gun and holster, checking the safety before placing it on the counter, and then brought the glasses of wine, both red, and handed one to Adian as he took a seat on the couch next to her. The living room light was on and the lamp next to the couch had been flipped on as well. Blue came skidding back into the room, having scarfed down her food, and leapt up onto the couch next to Hale. "Blue!" he exclaimed, trying to sound severe as he balanced his wine. "Down!" She whined a bit and got on the floor before walking over in front of Adian, resting her head on the strange woman's knee, looking up with one blue eye, one brown. "I know she stays on the couch or the bed the whole time I'm gone," he said, shaking his head as he took a sip. "But I can't yell at her for it. I already feel bad enough for leaving her here."

Once Adian and Blue had a chance to get a little more acquainted, Hale turned to his neighbor and decided to get to know her beyond the obvious--that she lived with a potentially dangerous control freak and was incredibly beautiful. Oh, and a vampire. "So, tell me a little bit about yourself," he said. "Other than trying to teach your roommate how to behave like a civilized person, what do you like to do?"

Eloquent speaking, she believed, was a habit held by the English. To up the Americans, you might say. Though, there existed in English culture, so of the most horrific dialect. Ones that could make your ears bleed, because they were simply so harsh, and unattractive. Her stage training had included learning to speak properly. If you could sing, that was wonderful, but if you opened your mouth to introduce a song, and sounded as if you'd belonged at sea, then people may be less inclined to listen to you. "A demon? Met a few of those in my time." Most of which had been surprisingly nice. Not at all like her fearsome creatures the bible made them out to be. "That's extremely clever. I imagine it would be handy, in your line of work. If you needed to track some one, and didn't exactly want them knowing they were being tracked, just shift into an animal... they'd never suspect it."

"If I remember correctly, Vallis is four hundred, and twenty-four years old." Or close to, she could be off a by a year. His views were entirely medieval, there was no mistaking that. It amazed her that he'd been able to function at all in this day in age. Curiosity often made her question what his life would be like, if he didn't have his little gift. There would likely be far less victims, and one less asshole. "Yes, there are humans that hold a type of love affair with the idea of vampires. Faes as well. They willingly allow those to drink from them... It's very dangerous, in my opinion. The younger vampires often can't control their urge to feed." Bloodlust took time to learn to control. It was wise that they should stick to blood banks. "Though, some people can't be told otherwise, they'd rather live the fantasy, I imagine." Problem was, it was life, not a fantasy.

Adian gladly took the glass of wine from him, "Thank you, Hale." And as he joined her, her body turned, so that she was facing him more. "She's lucky to have you, especially after such an auspicious start. Honestly, people really ought to do a bit of reading, before they decided to buy another living creature." Adian was pleased that she had been lucky enough, to have Hale safe her. So many weren't lucky in that way. "Of course she does. It's her palace when you're away." Leaning forward, she gave the pups ear a good scratching, which earned her hands several generous puppy breath kisses. "She's an angel, really, and a fine dog, aren't you gorgeous." There was nothing more irresistible than a puppy.

"Yes, discussing the impossible is never fun, is it?" She said with a smile, lifting the glass of wine to her lips. "I enjoy a great number of things, I must admit. Being that I am a vampire, and shut in doors for all hours that the sun occupies the sky, I must escape, when sun sets... I'm a singer, so I spend many nights at a local club, entertaining, or enjoying the music. I find it to be very relaxing, and energizing, all at the same time. A beautiful mix... I enjoy the cinema as well, I'm rather taken with the art house here in Seattle, amazing selection of films." When the pup once more appeared before her, Adian patted the small space between she, and Hale. One which the puppy gladly occupied there after, laying her self against Adian. "I hope you don't mind, but she is far too cute to ignore. Aren't you?" She smiled once more, petting the puppy, before her eyes returned to him. "What about you, Hale? What are your passions?"

"It can be convenient, that's for sure," Hale said, of how his ability could be a good weapon in his arsenal at work. "See, I look like a cop apparently. White, short hair, just the way I carry myself. I just don't pass off well as a civilian, even worse as a criminal. So if I can shift into a dog for awhile and act like a stray on the streets and pick up some information, it makes it a lot easier to pick up a little bit of information, maybe get a trail that I wouldn't have latched onto otherwise. A new kind of tracking. 'Course, if the guys at the department found out about it I'd be out of there and probably in a mental institution."

His eyes grew wide as more digits kept being added onto Vallis' age. He was that old, really? "So younger vampires, they sometimes kill their... food on accident?" he asked, not sure what word to use for those who donated their blood. "That has to be tough to deal with." He didn't think he'd found any murders like that, but that bit of information might come in handy if he ever found a body with puncture wounds near a major artery, drained of blood with no signs of a struggle. He made a mental note.

"She's definitely lucky," Hale said, smiling like a proud father as Blue gave some of her famous puppy kisses to Adian. "She just looked so sad in the pound. I couldn't leave her there, you know? So now I spoil her to make up for it." His dimples were showing as he grinned. Not that he was trying to hide it. Blue was loving the attention, she really was.

"That would be difficult, not being able to be outside during the day. Have to find ways to keep yourself occupied, I guess?" Hopefully that didn't involve Vallis. Since they were stuck in the house together, though, he figured that was hoping too much. But a singer? That was... "Sexy," Hale said, without thinking. Obviously. And then he blushed. "Damn. I mean...sorry. It's just music is... I need to shut up. I'm sure you're a wonderful singer," he said, obviously flustered by how ridiculous his lack of restraint (an unusual trait for him!) had just made him sound.

He tried to regain his composure after she asked what he liked to do. "Well, I work entirely too much," he said, smiling and moving over to give Blue more room as she hopped up on the couch, wagging her tail hard against the worn leather from all the attention. "I'm a homicide detective with the Seattle PD, so I'm always on call. When I'm not working I... like basketball. I play it, watch it. I don't bet on it, don't have enough money," he said, followed by a self-conscious laugh. "I'm a little boring."

Adian couldn't help but smile, "The goodness in you, it's not something you can mask, so I'm not surprised they don't buy you as a crook." She could see that he would look a bit suspicious, especially if he made a habit of trying to save people. No, they hadn't been in each others presence long, but he was a good sort of person, she could tell by his eyes. They truly were the windows to someone's soul, and Hale had beautiful windows. "That's really quite brilliant. So many people would allow their gift to enable them, but you have found a way, to use it to your advantage. Well, done." It was admirable. She had happened across supernaturals, who allowed their gifts to completely pause their lives, rather than using them to make life better. It wasn't living, in her opinion. "Yes, well, humans often refuse to believe in the fantastical these days."

"I imagine that at times it happens. We have a bloodlust, you see. The taste of blood is... like a drug to us, almost. Until you learn to control that lust, you may not want to stop drinking, once you begin." In her time, it had always been a worry, but she had, had Roslin there, to help pull her off, if she couldn't do it on her own. That's what a proper sire should do, she believed. "You learn quickly, though. It just becomes normal, after a time." You might even reach a point, where you don't mind it, Though, Adian didn't think she would ever enjoy the idea of drinking blood. "Some have an easier time than others. I've been lucky."

There was no doubting that the puppy was happy, and well loved. "You're very cute with her, did you know?" It was true. You could always tell what kind of a person, someone was, by they way they treated animals. "She's lovely, I doubt anyone could resist her." Adian laughed softly, as the puppy moved between the two, insisting that they both pay her equal attention. And why not? There were four hands to be put to use after all.

"It can be, but that's something else you grow used to, I suppose." Adian nodded. "Yes, I have a little studio, you might say, in our apartment. I often write, and record music." Other times, she was boring, and simply read a good book. Or, she sang for Vallis. Music soothed the savage beast after all. But no, most of that time was spent far from him. When his all too interesting slip caught her ear, her eyes raised to him once more. An arched brow raised, along with the corners of her mouth. She looked rather amused, but pleased none the less. "You're cute when you're flustered as well." So, she was rather blunt as well. "I seem to have a knack for it. It also ties into my supernatural gift as well."

It had to be difficult, seeing death everyday. It was curious, how did he cope with it? "I can't imagine your line of work is an easy one. But, someone must do it, eh?" He must have a passion for it, if so much of his time was spent working. Adian imagined that it offered more than just death. The chance to right wrongs, and vindicate someone. Yes, she could see his draw, if her initial impression was correct. "Do you? I imagine you're good, considering how tall you are." She smiled softly. "It's all right to be boring. Besides, you might not be boring to someone else. In fact, I think you're quite interesting." She wasn't just saying so, if she had really thought he was boring, she wouldn't have bothered taking up his invitation.

"No," Hale said, shaking his head a little. "I can't really do the undercover work. I stick out like a sore thumb. Not to mention that most of the criminals in the area recognize me as that tall cop who's been working in Seattle for the past eleven years."

"Bloodlust," he repeated, trying to process such a foreign thing. He'd never heard of any of these vampire concepts before, but he wanted to understand. Not just because of her... okay, well maybe. But it might be useful in the future! "I guess I can see how that might happen," he said, nodding. His gaze was soft as he looked back up at her. How long had she dealt with this? Of course he wasn't going to ask. It was impolite. She obviously had a grasp, control of her desire for blood. But still, wasn't it torment to turn down the constant, how had she described it, song of pulses around her, reminding her that all it would take was to plunge her fangs into the soft skin and the veins beneath? Maybe he didn't need to think so hard.

And now he was cute? Yeah, his cheeks turned red. He'd had dogs growing up, the obligatory golden retrievers and mutts that got pulled in off the streets, mainly by Hale, who would ask his mom the usual "can we keep 'em?" The answer had almost always been yes, mainly because he had been responsible enough at a young age to walk, feed, and take care of the pets. "Thanks," he said, a little bit bashful as Blue gave him a nice, messy lick on the cheek. "And thank you, darlin,'" he said, rubbing her face. She was such an attention hog. It was irresistible.

"You write your own songs, too?" he asked, obviously impressed. "I'll have to come by and see you perform sometime," he said, trying to recover from his slip-up, still red as can be and flustered from being such an idiot! He couldn't believe he'd done that, he was usually so good at, well, keeping his mouth shut and not saying stupid things. At least she hadn't walked out. In fact, she'd smiled, at least a little bit. Maybe she'd been laughing at him but she wasn't pissed off. That was good. "Thanks," he said at his comment about him being cute when flustered, looking down and concentrating really hard on the spots on Blue's coat while his face grew even more warm. Finally, he had regained his composure enough to look back up, his embarrassed smile revealing those endearing dimples. "I normally don't try for cute. I normally don't get flustered because... well I keep my mouth shut. Apparently either you're working some vampire powers on me, which I don't think you'd do, or I'm just...flustered." He took another drink of his wine, trying to act as cool and collected as he had before. "What are your supernatural gifts?" he asked.

"It's not easy," he agreed, half-shrugging. "But you're right. If no one did it, a lot of people would get away with crimes that they deserve to be locked away for." Or worse, but the law kind of frowned on the whole 'eye for an eye' thing that he sometimes wished he could act upon. "It's easier working homicide, though, than my last beat. I finally had to give it up. My old job was working in the sex crimes and child abuse department as a detective, kind of like on that show. Six years doing that was too much. Talking to the victims, hearing what they'd been through, seeing the perps and how they got away with it or got slaps on the wrists, only to get off and do the same thing again... I had to switch. I couldn't keep doing it." The corners of his mouth had turned down and his eyes had lowered, hands stilled on the dog's back. Blue whined and licked his hand to remind him that she was there, and he brightened a bit again. "Sounds kind of callous, but it's easier when the victims are dead. Besides, murderers, they don't get off for 'good behavior.'"

Oh, basketball. Thank goodness for changes of subject. "Yeah, I'm okay at it. I mean I'd never be able to play pro, but it's fun to do with the guys at the department when we're having some down time for a change. Some years we set up leagues, get real competitive with it." He grinned when she said it was all right to be boring. "Really? that's good. I like being boring, outside of work. Gives me time to breathe. But it's a good thing you think I'm interesting, I guess."

His curiosity about her age was understandable, especially after he had learned of Vallis' extreme age. Though, if he didn't see fit to ask, she wouldn't present the information. Not yet, at least. Perhaps if they grew to know one another better, she may tell him. For now, learning that she was old enough to be his grandmother, no matter how youthful she appeared, might be far too off putting. Even though they had spent only a few short years together, Roslin had taught her a great deal about control, and personal discipline. She, and Vallis were so different, it was almost difficult to believe that they were siblings. Though, there had always been something dangerous about Roslin. The constant heartbeats could be tempting, if one hadn't feed. They were taunting at times.

If some one told her she was beautiful, she would smile, and thank them. It was a common compliment. Did people not praise him for being good looking? He was humble, that delicious humble soul, that she found all too appealing. "I'm sorry, cute isn't a very adult term, is it? No, as I said before, you are handsome." Even if it did embarrass him, it was none the less true. Though, she didn't want to make him overly flustered. Thank goodness for Blue, she was a lovely little distraction.

She lifted her wine glass once more. "I do. It's very therapeutic." Not surprising, many reflected her past. "I'd like that. I normally sing at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley. It suits my taste, quite well." Jazz had been her passion, it seemed to suit her voice, but as the years passed, she learned that her voice could be pushed into other areas of music. It was a powerful voice, so crooning only, would be a bit of a waste. "If you do decided to stop by, be sure to tell me, I'll dedicate a song to you." Hopefully he wouldn't mind that too much. Adian found that she placed a lot of sensuality, and seduction into her performance... maybe it was too soon to consider singing to him just yet. He didn't seem the type to jump into bed with someone on the first, nor second date. Another admirable trait. "What sort of music do you enjoy?" It might give her an idea of what to sing.

"I promise, that magic has nothing to do with being a vampire." A bit of a smug thing to say, but she was a confident woman. "I can cause illusions with my voice. Either by speaking, or singing. It's similar to a siren song, it can enchant the listener... or drive them a bit mad." It all depended on how she wished to use her gift. "It's quite handy, actually. If anyone gives me a hard time at the pub, I can make them back off, just by speaking to them." Adian recalled one evening, when a rather brutish bloke, had decided that she needed to be man handled. He'd ended up curled in a ball, sobbing, after pissing himself from fear. "But, it can be used for more pleasurable purposes as well." Not many women could make a man come, without ever touching them. Biting her bottom lip, she smiled, obviously a few ideas were brewing in her mind.

Her expression sombered, when he spoke of his previous department. What she would have given, for there to have been that sort of team, when she was a child. "No, I quite understand." She said softly, her eyes resting on Blue. "Seeing someone in that state, especially a child, is... quite heart breaking." It brought back bad memories. It was strange, even with age, there would always be misfortunes, that you could not forget. The dead couldn't cry, and there would never be that fear, that they may be returned to that home, or assaulted again. Death was a kindness, compared to some horrors.

It was good that he at least some time to relax while at work, a nice way to clear his mind. "I've never played, I'm not much of an athlete, I must admit." Those sort of activities, had always been viewed as something only a child should do. Once you grew up, you worked, and never looked back. That's what had been taught in their home. Rubbish. Fun is what kept people sane. "Of course, why wouldn't it be?" She smiled broadly, allowing her fangs to appear for the first time that evening. It wasn't a threatening smile, her eyes shone too brightly to even let that be thought. "I think it's important for neighbors to get along."

Learning she was a creature that could possibly suck him dry was enough of a shock for one night. Just because he'd known they existed didn't mean he'd ever expected to invite one into his apartment, or to think they could be so, well, nice. The age thing would probably be better left for later.

"No, it's fine," he said of the word cute. It was better than calling him something more embarrassing, that would turn him even more red. There were plenty of words he could think of that would do that. Cute was safer. Handsome was safe as well. And he did appreciate it. "Thank you," he said, still smiling in that shy, slightly ashamed way. As if he still hadn't grown out of that awkward, lanky kid he'd been back in school and this was the pretty girl in school complimenting him. He had a way of reverting like that a little bit.

"Dimitriou's," he repeated thoughtfully. "I think I've heard of the place. Never been there, though. The guys I go out with, they're not big on the entertainment at the clubs. More interested in the cheap drinks, you know?" he asked, laughing a little. "I don't get enough exposure to the arts, that's what my mother tells me. Maybe a trip to hear you perform is just the remedy I need." Okay, so a little flirting was okay, right? And he wasn't even sure if he was doing it right. He was a little rusty, after all. "Dedicate a song, to me? That would be..." quick, cover! What could he say there that wouldn't sound immature, retarded, or overeager? "Um, I like a variety of music, really. I like something with good lyrics. Something with a beat you can take someone dancing to, that's always a plus as well." To tell the truth, he listened to a little of everything except rap and top 40. "I have to say I have a slight obsession with some classic rock, though."

He raised his eyebrows at her smug remark, but it wasn't a disappointed gesture. More impressed than anything. Illusions with her voice? "That sounds like it could be... terrifying," he said with a chuckle after she explained the story of the man at the pub. "But I can see where it would come in handy! More women need built in weapons like that." The pleasurable purposes though, those piqued his interest. He might have even leaned forward a little bit, willing her to elaborate even though he could have predicted she wouldn't. "Sounds... interesting."

Hale's eyes rested on Blue as well after he spoke of his work in the SC/CA department. He petted her floppy ears, playing with them a little. She didn't mind a bit. He didn't like to think about it. He cleared his throat. "Sorry, shouldn't have brought that up. Not the time for something so depressing," he said, looking back up. "I like where I am right now. Even if I can't prevent the murders I'm investigating, I can at least make sure the people responsible don't get a chance to hurt anyone else." The way he said it was so matter-of-fact, it was obvious that he truly believed in justice. That the people who committed wrongs would eventually get what they deserved. That he could make a difference. Part of it was naivete and idealism, but he clung to that. It kept him going sometimes.

"Sports aren't for everyone," he said nonchalantly as Blue decided to take her leave, hopping off the couch. She ran to the window, stuck her nose under the blinds, and proceeded to watch the cars go by on the street, barking quietly every time a horn honked. He laughed a bit. He caught sight of her fangs but didn't draw back. His eyes widened a little bit, but only because he'd almost forgotten he was talking to a vampire. Teeth looked sharp. "Me, too. I haven't met anyone else in the building yet, besides for the girl who takes Blue out for walks in the afternoon. It'd be nice to have a few friends."

Strangely enough, Adian had never been that pretty girl in primary school. Rather, the also tall, and lanky tom boy, who had been teased for her rather unique face. Though, when she finally grew into her looks, the tables had turned. Her age, and the confidence she received from performing on stage, and helped her moved beyond those awkward years. That girl, who had so often been a victim, had been left behind in Cardiff, when Adian relocated to London. That's how she tended to few things, because the two personalities were so drastically different. "You're very welcome." She said lightly, the ever present hint of a smile, still lingering on her lips. Draining her glass of wine, she placed it atop his coffee table.

"Nothing wrong with cheap drinks." She said with shrug. "I've I'm not there, I have two pubs, that I rather enjoy visiting. I'm a billiards addict, and I quite enjoy the hustle." A brow raised then. "I suppose I shouldn't tell an officer that." With a light chuckle, she leaned her shoulder into the back of the couch, now completely facing him. A little bit of flirting suited her just fine. "Perhaps it is. I'm always there on Wednesday, and Saturday." It didn't always guarantee she would play, that depended on what the club had lined up. It was no matter though, she enjoyed to music, and assortment of wine.

Adian did her best to not draw attention to his change of subject, but that fact that he seemed to be so flustered, and bumbled around her, was quiet flattering. Though, he may always be this way, she couldn't know just yet. Though, there rested the strongest suspicion, that it was not the case. "I love dancing, I trained when I was younger. My Mum always said, I had to put my long legs to good use." Dance, she enjoyed, but not as much as singing, that had been her main focus. "Classic rock, I'm impressed." Thank goodness, he didn't claim his love rested with the screaming sort of music, which she could not stand. "I'm actually a big fan of David Bowie, and The Rolling Stones myself... Janis Joplin as well, she was amazing." Janis was normally included in her set.

"It's fine, really." Some things in life were depressing, yes. His job carried a great deal of sadness, but it was obviously a large part of his life, and she didn't mind hearing of it. "I actually find it all very admirable. There will always be people, who see fit to harm others, it's a sad truth. But, so long as there are people like you, Hale, a type of balance will be kept." It was so odd... he seemed to be the exact opposite of Vallis. Being with Hale, seemed to only make her repulsion towards the vampire grow. "Those acts should not be excused." She agreed.

"Friends are always a wonderful thing to have, I agree." Once Blue had left them, her eyes also strayed to the pup, watching in a amusement, when she began to bark. "Wouldn't it be heavenly, if we were so easily stimulated?" It would certainly make life easier. Now, that it was just the two of them, her mind trailed back to what he has said of her gift. Terrifying, yes indeed, if she wished them to be. "I could... show, you know. My gift." Though, she had no plans, to scare the hell out of him. "I promise, I'll use them in a nice way." Reaching forward, she took one of his hands in her own. Was that necessary? No, but he didn't have to know that, it was however, to prove a point.

After giving him a reassuring smile, her lips parted, and as she croon softly, there was a distinct difference in her voice. It held an unexplained echo, "Hey sweet man... who you give your loving to? Hey sweet man... who you give your loving to? I got a mind to love you, love you through, and through." It soon became evident, just why she had taken his hand, a glow began to rise from her skin. As if her soul was separating from her body, moving towards him slightly, still holding the same shape, thought it was blurred, and translucent. The warm glowing hand lifted, pushing gently through his hair, as it's mate curled around the back of his neck. Adian had a mind to keep things simply, startling his was the last thing she had in mind. Of course it wasn't real, but it might seem that way to him.

Looking at her, Hale couldn't imagine her not being beautiful. Still, physical attractiveness was a fickle thing, especially in youth. Those who were the beauty queens in youth often found their looks had faded with maturity. Others simply grew more lovely with time. Adian was frozen now, a picture of beauty. She was lucky, he thought. His wine glass was soon empty as well, and he placed it next to hers.

He just laughed at her admission. "Billiards, really? Wouldn't have pegged you as the type." He was almost completely facing her, but not quite. Not relaxed enough for that yet. "Wednesday and saturday," he said, making a point to remember it. "I'll have to stop by one night when I'm not working." Who knew when that would be, but he'd sure make the effort. Sometimes he got lucky, after all.

He was actually normally quite cool and confident. This was out of character entirely. Women could fluster him quite easily, though, because he was rather clumsy around them. Sometimes he tried too hard, or sometimes he just didn't know what to say. He wasn't one of those men who was born with a suave manner of dealing with the opposite sex. He was clumsy about it. "Can't say I'm the best dancer, but I'm a decent partner," he said, and he was being honest about it. His ex-fiancee had taught him how, and he'd retained the skills. "Not classically trained, though. Not by any means," he said with a laugh. "Bowie is amazing," he said. "As are the stones. And Janis, that woman has soul," he said, smiling.

He appreciated her speech about how admirable he was, he really did. Just wasn't really sure what to say, so he opted for nothing. He just inclined his head a bit, half smiling. Sometimes what he did seemed futile, it was good to know that there was at least some recognition for it.

"I sure wish I was that easily amused," he agreed, eyes sparkling as the dog was utterly consumed by the street below. "You could?" He figured she didn't mean the frightening part, so, he nodded. His eyes locked on their hands as she took one of his, and then she started to sing, her soulful voice echoing in the air around them. And she began to glow, his eyes widened just a little bit, not in fear but in amazement. The translucent hands pushing through his hair, on the back of his neck, sent a chill down his spine. Sure seemed real.

"Wow," he breathed.

Relaxing wasn't often an issue, especially with someone, whom she had age over. With Hale, she could protect herself easily, but the same guard would not be let down around everyone. There was also something in him, that simply made her wish to trust him. "Really? I've been singing in clubs, and pubs since I was a teenager. Billiards, Snooker, and of course Pool, were always the available games." Gambling was as well, but she'd never been very good at cards. So, Adian had built up her talent, and won money on the pool table. "I really enjoy it, honestly. Plus, I love beating mean at it, that's always enjoyable." Her brows rose, and fell. Adian wasn't always dressed, as if she had stepped out of the silver screen. She enjoyed spending time with the more rough around the edges crowd. Though, she did to stand out a bit.

"Good, I'd like you to come." She hadn't yet been given the chance to invite anyone to her show. Vallis had come once, but she banished him, after he left the club with three women in tow. Amazingly enough, he hadn't returned. So, knowing that she might get the chance to perform to some one who knew her, outside of the club, was quite exciting. She adored singing, and entertaining people. So, doing so for Hale was right up her alley.

Seeing that Adian normally pursued women, men some times presented a bit of a challenge. At times, she was at a lose to what to do with them. Of course she knew what to do, but generally it was not worth the effort. This, however, seemed different. It was far too early to say, but it wouldn't hurt to lay down a bit of ground work, would it? "I wouldn't worry about that. So long as you're not in the habit of treading on peoples toes." She hadn't been expecting him to be Fred Astaire.

"She did, such an inspiring, and tragic story." Adian had been a fan when she appeared on the scene, and was quite disheartened, when she had fallen victim to drug abuse, and eventually over dose. Too many talents had been lost because of narcotics. The song turned into a type of hum, though it still held the odd attributes. The glowing figure moved forward, hovering far too close to his face. Adian knew she should draw back, and not be so obvious, but he seemed impressed. When the glow was a mere whisper away from his lips, her eyes closed, and it slowly shimmered away, until only they remained. Her head was lowered, and it was apparent that she was not quick to meet his eye. "Forgive me, that was... a bit forward." Smiling, she finally looked up to him once more, releasing his hand as she did so.

Could help that Hale was trustworthy to the core. Any time he'd ever betrayed anyone, even by complete accident, it had torn him apart inside. Apologies didn't seem to cut it, and while he wasn't one of those constant and annoying apologizers. Kind of wished he could be sometimes, though. "Started out young, then," he said, wondering how many years ago it was that she was truly a teenager. From her appearance alone, it hadn't been many. Something told him that was his own wishful thinking, but he decided to keep on wishing. "And sometimes men need to be beaten by pretty women. Puts their egos back down where they belong." He was teasing a little, dimples making their appearance again.

Hale didn't feel like a challenge. The challenge was keeping from shooting his mouth off and sounding like a complete idiot. He had to set up a filtering system manually every time he opened his mouth to speak, it seemed like. That was the problem with women that looked as good as she did. "I have been well taught not to step on toes," he assured her, putting his arm on the back of the couch, opening himself a little more toward her. "You don't have to worry about that one." Fred Astaire, not so much. But he wasn't wearing clown shoes, either. They just looked like that sitting by the door since he was so darn tall!

Hale felt as though he should breathe more shallowly, not to blow the specter or whatever it was that she was projecting away from him. It was fascinating and intriguing and his interest, it was definitely piqued. For a moment he thought that that... whatever it was, was going to kiss him, and for once he didn't stiffen because, well, it wasn't really her but... it was a part of her was it? He was a little confused, but once the shimmering image disappeared, he exhaled heavily and tried to meet her eyes, only to find them downcast. He didn't know what to say, so he waited until she spoke, even if it might have been the wrong time to do. "No, don't apologize. That was... amazing." He couldn't do anything like that, not by a long shot. He wanted to ask her questions about it, but he wasn't sure how to do it without sounding like a complete idiot.

Luckily, Blue came to the rescue yet again, bounding over, pushing the rug out of the way on accident as she slid on the floor, carrying her favorite toy. She'd only had the knotted rope toy for a few days and it was already ragged from being played with. She nudged Hale's leg with it, placing one of her feet on his knee. He laughed and pulled on it, but instead of giving it up, she pulled back, putting all of her weight into her tug. Finally, he wrestled it away from her and threw the toy into the kitchen. She would take a few minutes to come back because, well, she had to explore the entire room everytime she went in to make sure there was no new food on the floor. Just in case.

Loyalty was important to her, because she herself tried to be loyal. Those relationships that she did have, she held them in high regard, they were precious to her. Though, when she was turned, several ties had to be broken. Her family had believed that she had simply disappeared. Run off, and been married perhaps. Love had driven her away from her family. A love, which she believed would always last, always be present. Sadly, it had only been a few short years. For a time, she had regretted the change, and wished for nothing more than death. Heart break would do that to a soul, human, or not. "Yes, I left home early... had no reason to stay." With her favorite sister off, and married, she had lost all reason for being there. Nora had been her best friend, and Adian had stuck around to protect her. When that was no longer needed, she too escaped.

Yes, he could continue to wish for the time being. One needed to remember, not only did vampires maintain the appearance they held, whenever turned, their minds also remained quite sharp. They didn't fade with time, but rather improved. Age was simply a number to a vampire. It didn't hold the same meaning. Would he really mind so much? "Good, I'll insist you take me dancing some time then. When you can manage the time, of course." The one plus side to living with Vallis, is that she didn't have to work, to keep herself a float. He really did spoil her. Before they meet, she had needed to work, it was rather nice having the luxury now.

"You, didn't mind?" She questioned softly, her face now completely absent of the often cocky smile. A first true moment of vulnerability. Something she tried her damndest to never show. Adian's eyes meet his own, and it seemed as if she intended to say more, but Blue had arrived. Swallowing, her eyes returned to the pup. Perhaps the distraction was a good one, being so forward was a bit foolish. Especially if she couldn't be positive of a returned interest. Yes, he seemed flustered, and curious, but he was also a man. Men were often welcoming to the idea of an attractive woman coming on to them. Her hopes wouldn't allow that mind set to sit, however.

Adian watched the two play for a moment, as she quiet, her fingers soothing over the rick blue velvet of her dress. Though the smile did return, it was soft though, not the least bit arrogant. Though, soon enough they were alone, and there was a certain awkwardness in the air. It made Adian want to laugh, because she hadn't felt it in such a very long time. "I... suppose I should head back, before Vallis decided's to come looking for me." It wasn't that she wanted to leave, it just seemed that she ought to, before she did anything completely foolish. Uncrossing her legs, she stood, plucking her silver clutch from the sofa. "Hale, it was truly a pleasure, and I do hope you'll be able to see me perform soon." Perhaps they would go dancing at some point as well. She was hopeful.

Even though only half of Hale's family truly understood shapeshifting, at least he ahd that. And his stepfather, for all his ignorance and for the few shortcomings he did have, tried his hardest to understand. He had come into Hale and his mother's life at a time when they desperately needed stability. He had been a father when he didn't have to be, and a father to a child that wasn't entirely human at that. Hale found that admirable. He was allowed to be a little bit freaked out about it, so long as he didn't run away. "I guess taken altogether, I had a pretty ideal childhood. I lost my dad, he was a cop, killed on the job, when I was six, but my mom remarried to a great guy a few years later. It was rough, but me and my mom, we pulled through it together. It doesn't work out that well for a lot of people. In a way I got lucky." He smiled a little bit sadly, because he could hear undertones of regret or something similar in the few words she was saying about her past. But it wasn't his place to ask questions. If she wanted to share, she would.

No, once the shock had passed, he probably wouldn't mind. Age was only a number, right? He aged slowly as well, and while he wouldn't be eternally youthful, he would hold up a little better than the average human. That had to count for something, right? "I'll make sure to find the time. It would be a pleasure."

Mind? "No," he said, putting his hand on top of hers for a moment, an almost reflexive move, it seemed. "I didn't mind at all." And he looked into her eyes, waiting for her to say something else, whatever was waiting on the tip of her tongue (or so it seemed), until Blue interrupted the silent moment. He drew his hand away slowly, thumb brushing gently over the soft fabric of her dress.

When she stood up, he did as well, partially out of politeness, but partially because he wanted to find some way to make her stay. No, that was silly. But he could make sure they would meet again. "Don't feel as if you have to leave," he said, though her comment about Vallis made him wonder if he did have some sort of power over her. "I'm enjoying your company." He nodded when she said it was a pleasure, because it truly had been. He had enjoyed meeting her, more than he had enjoyed meeting anyone in, well, a long while. "I don't know if I'll be able to see you perform this week, I think the station has me pretty booked through the weekend. But," and suddenly he had the urge to seal the deal somehow. "If you have an evening free early next week, would you like to go out for dinner?" He would of course plan something for later in the evening, a film or something, but that was difficult to do so far in advance without a newspaper in front of him. He looked a little more confident now that he was asking her out, but his posture still belied the fact that he was nervous. He liked this girl, at least he thought he did, so far. He didn't want to blow it coming out of the gate.

"I'm sorry to hear of your fathers passing, that is truly tragic." Adian said sincerely. That bit of information alone, seemed to explain Hale quite a bit. Why he had sought out being an officer himself. She imagined he had some kind of idolized image of his father, and wished to life up to it. If he had been anything like Hale, it was a well placed admiration. "I am happy to know that everything came together for you." He seemed to be deserving of such happiness. Adian did hold a lot of regret when it came to her past. A lot of hate, and hurt as well. She often wished, that she could look back upon her own father fondly, but there was no place for that. The dark was too keep, for the light to ever penetrate. If there had ever been a light. She couldn't recall one. Perhaps she would share, but not at this time... not yet.

She regretted not saying more, but the moment had passed. One of those fleeting moments, lost between their eyes. Perhaps it was for the best. Her ideals of romance, were often seen as old fashioned. Hell, being a romantic was old fashioned. Adian believed in love at first sight. It had been that way with Roslin. The moment she had seen the redhead, she wanted to know more of her, and to always be in her company. It had been attraction, lust, and type of connection that few people shared. Love though... maybe. Maybe not. Now, she had to wonder if it had been one sided. With Hale, there was a connection, and an attraction.

Lust... that was rather obvious. Too obvious, which was why she felt leaving would be the best plan of action. Adian hadn't been with a man, other than Vallis, in some two years. It seemed almost like unfamiliar ground. "Oh, no it's not that... I really like you. You're kind, and sweet." Yes, sweet was at times a good thing, no matter what men believed. "I'm enjoying yours as well. I'd hate to do something foolish, which might cause that feeling to depart." Smiling apologetically, she once more met his eyes. Adian would stay, but what might he think of her in the morning? Women were odd that way. If they cared for a mans opinion, they would not sleep with them right off. But if they didn't, it was no matter.

When his invitation presented it's self, she caught her bottom lip between her teeth, in some way to restrain the girlish smile, begging to make an appearance. "I would like that, really." Finally, she allowed the smile to break free. Damn the butter flies in her stomach, making her feel as if she were a teenager once more. "You'll find I'm very flexible, about dates. When ever suits you." She understood his schedule was never truly set, it was part of the job. If murderers called ahead of time, and made reservations of sorts, it would make things easier. But, as it was, they had to work, whenever it came about. Adian would be lying, if she wasn't pleased with the fact that she made him a bit nervous. There was something rather sexy about that.

Despite less than idyllic circumstances, Hale had escaped childhood with fond memories of most of his youth. He had been loved, first by his true father and then by his stepfather. His mother had been a constant. they had supported each other through the rough times. And his little sister, well, she was one of his favorite people in the world. In his eyes, she couldn't really do any wrong. He had nine years on her, so he was always watching, making sure she didn't get into any real trouble. Right now it was from a distance. Baby sis had decided to go off to school at Berkely. Too far away, Hale and the rest of the family thought. But she deserved her chance, too.

Hale was a romantic. Old fashioned or not, he hadn't really been born with a choice. He was the man who thought that a woman should always have doors opened for her, flowers on her birthday, gifts for no reason at all. He believed in love, not love at first sight but that true love did exist. He'd found it once, with Marie back in college, but that hadn't worked out. His job had gotten in the way and his determination to succeed at it... well, he didn't want to let that happen again. He'd let go of a good thing. She was married now, had two kids, living in the suburbs. They still talked over coffee sometimes, but it was always strained. Always the possibilities of what might have been between them. She was happy and he was still Hale, still the same determined cop he'd been when they'd broken up. He hadn't changed much. And while he held those romantic ideals, he hadn't dated much in the past decade. Women had caught his attention, but he wasn't in it for a one-night stand and they weren't too happy with the idea of a man who was literally required to leave, no matter what, to go out on a case at a moment's notice. Strained relationships. Complicated things.

Hale felt that connection, too. He wouldn't try to get her in bed, probably wouldn't even go in for so much of a kiss no matter how much they talked and felt in tune with one another that night. It wasn't his style. He liked to get to know the women he was seeing first, to take them on a few dates at least, to make sure that he wasn't just going to lose interest. That wasn't fair to the person he was seeing. Wasn't worth it to him, either. Too many emotions at stake, and he didn't like to hurt anyone. Still, she was making perfect sense and he nodded, smiling a little shyly. "You're absolutely right."

Suddenly he had a lot of doubts. "Oh, but you're a vampire. Do you even eat... food? I don't know that much about other supernatural races, I'm sorry. If dinner isn't practical, I can think of something else." But she didn't seem offended or put-off by the invitation. Still, he had those butterflies, too. "How about Monday evening?" he asked, knowing that he had a half decent chance of remaining free for a reasonable amount of time that early in the week. "I'll warn you, I might have to cancel last minute if someone decides to... well, you know. Kill someone. But I won't just stand you up for no reason."

Something else they shared. A desire to watch over a younger sister. Adian had spent years in Sydney, just so that she could watch Nora from a far. It had been difficult, not to reach out to her, especially when she witnessed the death of Nora's husband. They had been together for so long, and she knew sister would have been heartbroken, and lost. For all Nora knew, Adian was dead herself. That was how she preferred it to be. Rather than her sister knowing the truth. Knowing that she'd become some Godless creature, that had to live off others like a parasite. Death was a better remembrance.

Adian hadn't done traditional dating, in quite some time. Perhaps it was time to give it another chance. She would with him. Rather than laying her cards out all at once, she would place them down, one by one. To keep him on the edge of his seat. What if he didn't like her hand, and departed after all was revealed. At least holding out a bit, would give them more time, if that turned out to be the case. Though, she didn't think that would be an issue, there was always that underlining fear. Love was such a big risk, and she'd been burned by it before. Maybe that was why she had avoided it for so long? It seemed to make the most sense. Adian returned the smile, glad that he agreed with her.

The little laugh was unavoidable, "We don't require food to live, but I still enjoy it. Just as drinking, and smoking has no effect, I still enjoy them." Some vampires lived off of blood alone, but others still indulged in human food now, and then. "Dinner is lovely, I'm rather fond of desserts, so, I will be looking quite forward to that." She smiled, having found his apology to be rather sweet, and enduring. "Monday would be lovely." She said with a slight nod. That would do perfectly, she might be able to slip away on a Monday evening, without Vallis asking too many questions. "It's understandable. Though, I am looking forward to it, I won't be heart broken, if you have cancel. That sort of thing happens." If that was the case, she could always go out, and enjoy herself none the less. Offering him her hand once more, she sighed happily. "Hale, it truly was pleasure, and I look forward to seeing you again." After releasing his hand, she moved past him, touching his shoulder lightly for a moment, before bidding farewell to Blue, and taking her exit.

As she walked down the hallway towards the flat she shared with Vallis, she couldn't help but hope that he was well occupied at the moment. She didn't wish to be questioned, nor did she want her mind to be tapped into at the moment. It would be impossible to conceal her excitement of the possible, and likely date she would be having. If he knew... she didn't even want to imagine his reaction. Yes, solitude was in order for the time. With a smile, and a gentle hum, she stepped through the door of her flat. Till Monday...
