Week Ten- Wednesday
Who: Hesper and Hale
When: Wednesday Evening
Where: Basketball court outside The Towers then Hale's apartment.

She had spent the entire day out. It might have been because she had just a little bit of agitation that she needed to work off. There was no way to do that at home so it was out onto the streets she went. Recently it seemed like she spent more and more time away from the apartment, not even just for business either. But right now she just did not want to see her brother. And since the apartment was one of the few places he would be outside the station, she avoided it.

There was no point in being mad about it, but that did not stop her. Sure she had fucked up plenty of times when it came to things like this. Still, she did not like the fact that now her brother was scoping out some vampire for some girl, the same girl whose brother he showed his wings off to to prove the girl was not crazy. Nox was a good guy and all, but Hesper did not really like all too much just what he was doing for this girl. Especially if this girl was doing nothing for her brother. Why should Nox even bother with her? For that matter, why should she? Granted, she had never met Alex or whoever his sister was, not really at least, so where was her room to judge?

Who was she kidding, she was going to judge them anyway.

Kicking a rock on the sidewalk, she shoved her hands into her pockets. It was still so damn cold out. Why couldn't she have settled someplace warm? Shivering slightly, she looked up at the basketball court she was passing. Raising an eyebrow, she watched her brother's partner play on the court, by himself. It was really a sad little picture that he had painted of himself. "Hey, Hale." she called out. "Isn't is a bit fucking cold to be playing out here?"

Hale hadn't been spending a whole lot of time in his apartment. Instead, he worked more than usual, throwing himself into cases and even working on some cold cases to avoid going home. Blue wasn't getting the attention she deserved, so sometimes he even brought her along to the office. She got to play with the K-9 unit dogs and he didn't feel as guilty. Tonight she was at the basketball court with him, tired of stealing the ball from him. Instead, she was leaping in the air chasing moths or something while he shot baskets from the free throw line.

He hadn't been in the best of moods since Adian had gone. There hadn't been much of an explanation, she had just... disappeared. Disappeared with the bastard down the hall she lived with. And he knew she wasn't safe with him, but there was nothing he could do. To be perfectly honest, he'd been falling in love with her. So much for that. There was probably a reason he hadn't found a woman yet. He just wasn't cut out for it.

Blue ran over to Hesper when she spoke, barking playfully. The great dane galloped up and looked up at Hesper, tongue hanging out of her mouth stupidly. Hale forced a smile and picked up the ball, walking over to Hes. "It's not that cold once you get moving," he said, dribbling the ball a couple times before holding it steady again. He wondered what she wanted. "What are you out for?"

Smiling, she bent down and rubbed Blue's head. "Well look who's here! If it isn't my favorite puppy dog." she cooed at the animal, continued to rub her head happily. She liked Blue and had often thought about getting a dog of her own because of that. But in probably one of the few moments where she considered others, she figured that she would not have enough time or patience for one right now. Plus she could always just steal Hale's if she wanted to play with one.

Looking up at Hale as she continued to pet his dog, she shrugged. "Still too fucking cold out for me. Isn't it Blue? Too fucking cold." she replied, looking back down at Blue happily. Scratching behind the great dane's ears, she tilted her head and smiled at the dog again. "You're so cute, your daddy should take you out more."

Shrugging, she avoided looking at him when he asked that question. "If you must know, I'm avoiding my brother. If you'd like a more creative reason though, I can probably come up with one. What about you?"

Blue's tail was wagging madly at Hesper's attention. She really was a people dog. Apparently a demon dog as well, but Hale was so used to the fact that his partner and his sister were demons that it hardly phased him. He figured in doggy-psychology world, the fact that his master was okay with them meant that Blue felt comfortable. Besides, she'd grown accustomed to a vampire in the apartment a lot.

Hale smiled a bit watching the demon and dog interact. "Avoiding Nox, huh?" he asked, bouncing the ball. "Guess that means he hasn't been cooking for you. How about you spare me the creative dinner and we go inside. I was going to cook anyway and I always make too much. Blue's gonna get fat from all the table scraps."

He whistled and tossed the basketball for Blue. Her mouth was so big that she picked the whole thing up and carried it back like it was a tennis ball. "I've had a lot of flat basketballs for the trash man thanks to that trick," he said with a bit of a chuckle.

"I can cook for myself you know." she chipped in, though they both knew that wasn't true. If Nox was not around she relied on take out and restaurants that other people took her to. "But if you're willing to cook for me, I'm not the kind of girl to tell you no." In fact he had given her dinner on a few occasions, other times when she had been annoyed at Nox and yet did not want to actually go out for dinner.

Grinning at Blue, she gave her a final scratch on the top of the head as she picked the basketball up in her mouth. "I can imagine, she's got the jaws of a wolf. The poor basketball is just a little squirrel in her maw." She resisted the urge to ruffle Blue's ears, as that would mean that she would probably want her to play ball, and she really was hungry right now. At least just a little.

"I'm sure you can," he replied with a healthy dose of skepticism, but she was obviously not turning down the offer. he wasn't entirely sure what he had to cook with as he hadn't been grocery shopping in about a week, but he was sure he could come up with something edible. She didn't seem picky anyway.

"She's got the jaws of a mutant," he said with a laugh. "And she loves to let the air out of them. I think she gets some twisted pleasure out of killing inanimate objects." He was smiling as he clipped the leash onto Blue's collar and tried to take the ball away, but she wanted to hold onto it.

"Fine then. You carry it back up." And it seemed she fully intended to as he started out of the basketball court and toward the Towers. "You know, she acts like she knows you. And you haven't really been around all that much," he said, glancing toward Hesper. "It's kind of strange."

If she really wanted to, she probably could cook for herself. While she was very fond of the finer foods of life, picky was nt something that really described Hesper. Food was food, and as long as it did not make her gag, then really it was all good. Plus, cute boy cooking it for her, even better. There was no reason to complain.

"Bet she part demon." Hesper said with a bit of pride, putting her hand on the large dog's back. She liked that about Blue. She was big enough that Hesper did not have to lean over really to pet her or play with her. Blue was Hesper size and that was a very good thing in her opinion.

Walking with him, she put her hands back in her pockets. Damn cold was no fun at all really. When he mentioned that Blue acted like she knew her, Hesper shrugged and drawled out. "I dunno, must have been all those times I broke into your apartment to steal your dirty magazines."

Hale liked cooking. It was one of his quirks. His mother had made sure he knew how to at least prepare a few things, and he'd picked up his own recipes over the years as well. He found that on the rare occasions that he did have a date, it impressed them. Not that it made a difference in the long haul.

"She might be," he said, voice lower now, Adian having crept back into his mind. "You never know."

At her confession, he was sadly not surprised. "Well, at least I know she has some company," he said with a slight shrug. She wasn't going to steal anything. Hopefully she wouldn't bring her work to his home, though. "Sorry my collection sucks. I'm not a big reader."

People doing things for her were just kind of an expected mind set for Hesper. It was probably not the nicest mindset to have, but she was used to it. Though that was not to say that she did not do things for others. However what she did was normally more unconventional. Rarely did it involve things like cooking. More often than not it was 'eliminating risks'. But hey, it was what she was good at, people should be thankful.

"Are you a little hell hound?" Hesper cooed, rubbing Blue's ears. "I bet you are, it's why you like me best, isn't it? My favorite little puppy." Hesper loved Blue, she really did. If it was not for the fact that she liked Hale, she probably would have stolen his dog from him a while ago. The dog made her happy.

She had been joking. Well, sort of. There were times when she wanted to play with the dog and no one was home but the dog. And it was not like Hale's apartment was all that hard to get in to. For a cop, you would think he had better locks. "Yeah, was kinda disappointed. Very tame stuff really. But at least it was all naked women."

"Hell hound," he said, shaking his head a bit. "If hell hounds like to chew up shoes, then she just might be." And trutfully, he would be devastated if she stole his dog. He loved that ridiculously big puppy like it was a child.

They walked into the towers and Hale punched the elevator button, letting Hesper (and Blue, who seemed to be heeling to the woman instead of him) onto the elevator first before walking on. When they reached his floor, he stood aside for her to walk out--always the gentleman--before pulling his keys out of his pocket and unlocking his door.

Once they were inside, he flipped the lights. It was nothing impressive, certainly not as well-decorated as Nox kept things, but it was homey. Blue, free of her leash, jumped onto the couch and started chewing on a rope toy. Hale flipped the television on--there was a game on tonight and he didn't want to miss the ending.

"All women, of course," he said, trying not to be embarrassed. "I don't bat lefty. Burgers okay?" he asked after scanning his freezer. He had enough hamburger meat to make a couple, and it would be relatively quick.

"I dunno, my dad never let me have one." she said with a shrug, grinning down at Blue. "You're so much prettier than a hell hound though, aren't you puppy dog?" While she was not the one who had brought Blue home, or was even the one who took care of the dog, Hesper loved her dearly. She never had to hear criticisms from Blue, she was always just happy to see her.

She entered the building with a happy sigh. "Ah, heat." she said, grinning. "So much better than outside." stepping onto the elevator, since she always just assumed that he would let her on first, she pet Blue's back lightly as they went up the required amount of floors. Then it was stepping off and following him to his apartment. Rocking back and forth on her feet, she waited impatiently for him to unlock the door.

Entering in, she smiled. She liked Hale's place. Sure it was not home, which Nox kept clean to the point of neurosis, but it felt homey all the same. It was very him, or at least she always thought so. Following Blue, she plopped herself on the couch and started playing tug-o-war with Blue's chewy rope.

"Women in not so interesting poses." she felt the need to interject, tugging on the rope in her hands. "And burgers sound fine. I'm not a picky mooch unlses it's Nox, and usually that's just to piss him off." Plus burgers were good, wouldn't hear her complaining. Not like she was one of those idiotic veg heads or something like that.

"Didn't let you have one?" he asked. "I can't see you really taking no for an answer." Then he became curious. "How do you get time out... in hell? Surely it's gotta be different than mom sending you to sit in the corner." He had never really asked Nox about Hell, though it was obviously something that he was occasionally curious about.

It was cute the way she interacted with Blue, and Hale was fairly sure he'd never expected to see Hesper as cute. Tough, sure. Cute? Not so much.

Blue LOVED tug of war, and playfully growled as she pulled as hard as she could. There was a benefit to being a supernatural--the huge dog couldn't just drag you across the floor!

Okay, it was SO time to drop the porno subject. Instead of even responding to her last comment, he got what he needed out to cook and started prepping the meal, heating up the grill that went over his cooktop for days when it was too cold to barbecue on the balcony. He seasoned everything, even cut up some potatoes for homemade fries. "Good to know you're not in the mood to piss me off," he said, peering around into the living room. "Hey, who's winning?" Cooking meant he couldn't keep his eyes glued to the basketball game like he normally would.

"I normally don't, but I was five at the time." She looked at him curiously when he asked that. People did not normally ask her questions about growing up. Then again, most people did not really know what she was either so it did not really matter. "You really want to know or should I just make something up?"

Grinning down and Blue, she play growled back and tugged along with her, lightly of course. One of the problems with being a supernatural, a demon specifically, is that if she wrestled or tugged too hard, she could actually hurt Blue. But they had had enough practice to get this down.

She noticed his quick drop of the porn subject. This yielded two results to her. Yes, Hale had porn. And it was most definitely vanilla. Which made her all the more hopeful that he had never gotten far with that vampire bitch he had been seeing. "I'm normally not in a mood to piss you off. Normally it's just making you feel uncomfortable cause you reject my advances. Right Blue? Your daddy does that, I know, I think he's crazy too!"

She wasn't much paying attention to the game either, as she was playing with the dog. "Well me at the moment, though Blue seems hell bent that she's going to win this time around. Bit hard to tell with tug-o-war really."

"How about you either tell me the truth or make something up and I'll decide whether I believe you or not," he said, watching across the counter as the demon and dog pulled the toy back and forth.

He did roll his eyes at her comment. "Hesper, your advances are..." he sighed. "They don't make any sense, first of all. We suffer from a severe case of incompatibility. Not to mention the fact that I don't do casual sex with anyone. You might not agree with me, and go ahead, call me stupid and old-fashioned. But it's not very respectful to a woman to sleep with her just because she makes herself available. Not in my opinion."

Explaining himself for the umpteenth time was tedious, that was for sure. He was fairly sure she'd memorized the entire speech anyway.

"The basketball game," he said with a bit of a laugh, coming out of the kitchen to check the score. "Mavs are ahead, let's keep it that way," he said, half to himself as he went back to the stove to watch over the meal. "And if I were a gambling man, I'd put ten bucks on her. You'll let her win so he doesn't get her feelings hurt."

"You want a beer?"

Hesper shrugged slightly. "Well the truth is boring. My parents were like Nox, they were very strange in hell. So yeah, it was mostly time outs. Though when I was older it might be sparring fights that I'd lose." Compared to other demons, her childhood had been very boring... and loving. She did not like to think about it much, her parents always made her feel uncomfortable. It was one of the reasons she left home early and often.

"Right, right, respect to women, opposites don't attract, I've got a stick up my ass." she said, listening to him drone on. Really, she did not get it at all. Nox was the same way too. It was like they just did not want to get laid. Though he had gone after that vampire, which annoyed the piss out of her. Ht thought her hitting on him was being disrespectful to women, but the fact that he was interested in a bloodsucker wasn't something like disrespectful to his race? Not to mention just plain dumb.

Hesper looked up at him. "Well honsetly, who cares about the basketball game, we're far more interesting." She looked back at Blue and gave another tug. "Aren't we? Plus either of us could easily take down one of those basketball players. Oh yes we could." Though when he mentioned the bet she did not respond, because he was right, she always did let blue win in the end.

"Only if it has alcohol in it."

He wasn't sure he wanted to know what normal punishment in Hell was like. In fact, he probably shouldn't have asked in the first place, come to think of it. At least her answer had been fairly tame. He dropped the subject, partially because it was awkward, and partially because it seemed she didn't really want to talk about it. She didn't approach the subject with her usual enthusiasm.

"I don't have a stick up my ass," he said, sighing. "I just like it to mean something. Go ahead, call me a woman or a pussy or whatever. It's more enjoyable when there are actual feelings involved." This conversation was making him miss Adian more.

"I know you could take down one of the players. Blue would just lick them within an inch of their life." She really was an awful guard dog, but he didn't need one. He had guns and the nifty backup ability of shapeshifting.

"Of course it has alcohol," he said, pulling a couple of bottles out of the fridge. "Corona okay? It's all I have cold."

Hesper did love her parents, she guessed. They had not been horrible or anything. But she felt little emotion towards them at all. While Nox was someone that she would fight to protect, her parents in danger would not invoke such a reaction from her. Perhaps she was a bit heartless, but they were simply just people who had been there growing up. Nox had always been their favorite anyway, a boy and just like them. Not that she could fault them, it was just the way it was.

"There'd be plenty of feelings involved. Just not the lovie dovie kind." she said cheerfully, leaning over to grr playfully at Blue as she tugged. "Plus, can't call you a girl, I don't hit on girls. So that would kind of defeat the point. However, I can call you a sissy pants. And a wuss. And question your manhood. Those are all within legal limits."

Hesper grinned at Blue, reaching with her free hand to distract the dog with a scratch behind the ears. "Nah, that's just her trick. She goes for the old lull them into a sense of security trick. Works wonders when someone's bigger than you. Not that she has to worry about that."

"Since when have you known me to be picky about anything but Nox's girlfriends?" she asked, sparing a look over her shoulder towards him. "Now bring it over here, servant boy."

Hale had loved his parents without a doubt. Even though he'd been little when his dad was killed in the line of duty, he remembered a lot about him and heard all of the stories from his mom and grandparents. His dad was why he'd become a cop. He was also incredibly protective of his mother, even though she could more than take care of herself. They'd always been close, and she still insisted that he visit for food at least once every couple of weeks so they could catch up.

He ignored the servant boy jab. Blue grrrred back, shaking her head back and forth as she pulled. Hale opened the longnecks and brought them into the living room, setting one on the coffee table for Hesper when she was finished battling it out with the pup. "Ooh, sissy pants," he said, stepping back and covering his heart with his hands. "That one's harsh." A bit of a laugh made its way out as he took a drink from his own bottle and headed back into the kitchen.

"He's pretty picky about the guys you bring home, too, from what I've heard. I think he keeps a closer watch on you than I do on my sister." He and Nox were a lot alike. Protective and probably too 'good' for their own good.

Hesper spared a glance over at the beer when it was placed on the table. It was tempting, but she could not simply just give up in the face of her battle against Blue. Defeat was not an option, and Blue had the fault of being particularly insistent on winning. Hesper shared the trait, but one never wanted to be dueling against someone else with it. Especially if one was a dog. "Do you think I can distract her with the beer? It's probably a bad idea to give beer to dogs though."

Tugging the rope up in the air to pull Blue with it, she looked over her shoulder and shrugged. "I think Nox is picky about everything I do. I thought it was bad in hell, but now he's got his big britches on. It's all my fault really. Should have left him back in hell." she sighed, joking of course. Even if she had not planned on him following, she was not sure what she would have done without Nox. Those first few months without him had been tough.

"Actually," Hale said with a chuckle. "Blue loves beer. If any spills, she always laps it up before anyone can even reach for a paper towel. You probably could distract her, just don't get her drunk. She's clumsy enough on those huge feet as it is." He turned the burgers again to make sure that they were done on both sides and then set them on a plate while he got the buns out. "What do you like on yours?" he asked.

Hearing her talk about Nox was always awkward. He usually heard it all from her brother's point of view, so the opposite impression of events was certainly interesting and usually conflicting. Not to mention it was ALWAYS weird hearing them talk about hell. "He's just trying to protect you," he said. "I know it's frustrating because my sister says the same about me. I know she doesn't need someone looking out for her, but I can't help it."

"You're a lush just like Auntie Hes!" she said happily, tugging and grring at Blue. While the idea was tempting, wasting beer was a low act in Hesper's mind. Plus she was having fun. Now when the food came around then the game would have to stop. After all, Hesper's stomach was near grumbling. "On what?" she asked, a bit distracted by the dog she was dueling with.

There really wasn't anyone else she could talk about her brother with except Hale. What with being what they were, it sort of limited who there was that knew everything. "Never said he wasn't." she said with a shrug. "But if one of those guys really tried to mess with me, I could just put my fist through their chest... though then I'd get a lecture on how I was being bad for his career, and on how he should lock me away, and rot like that."

"On your burger," Hale replied patiently, glancing up every so often from preparing the meal to watch the two "ladies" duel it out in his living room. And, of course, to check the score of the basketball game. Mavs were winning, so he was a happy camper.

"You've got a point. I guess my sister could just shift on some asshole if they tried anything, but I still worry. Besides, she tends to shift into things that aren't well suited for fighting. And since she and I are half-human, if she got tangled up with a supernatural, she'd be at a disadvantage." He shrugged. "And that would be bad for his career, but he wouldn't lock you up. Nox'd find some way to get you off the hook."

"Oh, the burger. It's done already?" she asked, tugging low to try and change directions on Blue. "Just everything i guess. No onions though." Onions gave one horrible breath, plus they had a weird texture to them. Never had liked them. Though supposedly they were good at keeping vampires away. Not sure why anyone would think that. Maybe some vampire had had an onion allergy or something.

"I could teach your sister how to fight, if you want." she offered. "She wouldn't be able to put a fist through anyone's chest, but she'd be a lot better off than the girls out around now. None of them know how to properly defend themselves." Though they were probably familiar with that, what with how many women turned up dead in this city. And that was just the ones that were found.
