Week Four: Sunday
When: Night
Where: Old Town Towers; their condo
Who: Dimitri, Juliette, Justine, Chloe

A family dinner seemed a simple thing but for the Baptistes it was always turned into quite the event. Perhaps it was due to the fact that they rarely spent as much time together as they used to. Perhaps it was only because Dimitri had time on his hands and was able to put forth so much effort. Whatever the reason for it, the dinner proved to be quite grand. None of them had need to eat true, but that did not mean that they did not enjoy the tastes of food still. Dinner was more a sampling, small amounts of what each of them loved.

Dimitri had worked through the morning hours as he often did and though he had attempted rest it had not worked as he had planned. Thoughts plagued his mind and made such attempts to relax rather difficult. A curse of the family it seemed as they became that way when they were uncertain on any particular point in their lives. It made the timing for this event perfect in a way, giving them excuse, and means, to forget all else for awhile. A night to simply enjoy being among family..allowing the rest of the world to fade away.

Or at least that was the plan…how well that worked out for any of them was another matter all together.

With much of his workload seen to Dimitri took the hours before nightfall to help in preparation for the night’s meal. Though he rarely cooked he was actually quite skilled in it. A talent that he did not even realize he held till late in his life. It wasn’t exactly a hobby he put much time or effort into however, his attention and time were almost always needed somewhere. He made sure of that, constantly flooding himself with work and projects in order to keep himself busy. Dimitri wasn’t the sort that really enjoyed being still or lacking in something to do.

Though he cooked he wasn’t the only one doing so. Others aided as well as there was too much to make for one person to handle.

Towards the end Dimitri left the finishing touches to others while he checked on some last minute work. There was little else for him to worry on really. The home was always in pristine condition and the large dining room was already prepared. Set with candles and all around the home fireplaces added a faint warmth to the home. It was more for light then for that, as cold was not something any of them truly felt anymore.

Music of long ago also filled the air, music that they used to listen to before times became so struggled and their lives went off in various directions. It reminded him of home, a home lost to all of them but yet remembered well. For times beyond the pain. For smiles and laughter.

There was time yet before the others would begin to arrive, Dimitri took seat in the living room near to the fire…watching the flames dance and cast shadows upon the walls. To the table near to him was a glass of wine briefly touched and to his hand a cigarette held between the fingers that was nearly spent, a window near to him was opened just enough to drag the scent of such away.

The family dinner had, all at once, become both a blessing and a curse. Obviously Justine was looking forward to time with her siblings, they all seemed to have such little of it anymore, but hiding the turmoil raging inside of her given the recent reappearance of her one-time fiance would prove difficult. The siblings were too close for things to remain hidden, should they go unnoticed at all.

Mikkos was not yet a subject she was willing to discuss with them...it was still a development far too new for her liking. Perhaps in a few days...weeks, when she'd had more time to process this latest turn of events. Until then she would simply hope it was an issue no one pushed too strongly.

When she arrived it was to find, as she'd expected, Dimitri already there and waiting. The table was set, cloaked in all its glory, the spread truly one to be coveted, especially when the family it was meant for would hardly touch it. The candles tossed shadows against the walls, casting an intimate glow around the table as if it was some beacon of light amidst an otherwise murky sea of darkness.

"You shouldn't smoke those, they'll kill you," she quipped, the hint of a playful smile tugging at her lips as she leaned down and brushed a chaste kiss to Dimitri's cheek. "I take it you helped cook tonight?" Generally when he was early for a family dinner it was because he'd been pitching in, assisting the staff in piecing together the entire puzzle that made up nights like this.

Justine moved to pull up the chair a few feet away, settling into a seat across from him as the pair waited for their remaining siblings to join them. "Whatever it is that awaits us tonight, it smells divine," she complimented, nearly positive that he knew the exact contents of the menu - he'd probably assisted in putting it together. It was a waste, really, to have such delicious foods given to those who could never truly enjoy them. But for whatever they were, for however long the enjoyment lasted, sometimes it was nice to feign normalcy again...even in this smallest of ways.

"And how have you been lately, dear brother?" the question was inevitable really, one they were each bound to hear a number of times tonight. Justine was merely interested in an early start. It had been far too long since she'd last spoken with Dimitri and that was a hole she wished to quickly patch.

Justine had to know, of course, that the family would sense something amiss with her. But while there would always be concern for when such feelings were noticed...none pushed sore subjects if the other wasn't ready for it yet. More then once in all their lives there were topics best just left alone for a time. Ophelia, attacks, deaths...the lists did go on and on. Dimitri noticed when she arrived...but he did not question. If she wished to speak she would and he'd respect whatever choice was made.

Tonight, regardless, for him it was a night for family. Blood family. Not to be troubled with talks of their sire or of work or struggles that were abound in this life. For Dimitri this was a night to reconnect with that blood kin that he did not get enough time with anymore. It was the way of their lives though, back and forth, separating for great times and coming back together again.

But of course Dimitri would be there already. He had spoken that he'd see to all the arrangements and in that, it did require him being around before the time came for all of them to gather. Not always did seeing to the dinner mean giving a helping hand. But tonight it had, fixing dishes that perhaps cooks of younger ages would not be able to fully recreate. He did not think any of the time or work wasted upon his family. Though they did not need food to survive like humans did that did not mean they could not enjoy the taste. Like wine it wasn't always about what was gained from the food or the drink, but how one was able to enjoy it.

Small bites, no true full meal, just enough to taste and enjoy for all of them. Dimitri knew well how they all were. Which was why her words brought about the faintest of smirks to his lips. "I'll keep that in mind..." he bemused in return, snubbing out what little was left of that spent cigarette. He returned the kiss to her cheek, sitting up a bit from that lounged position. "A bit, more then normal but less then I could have." he could have cooked it all if he really wished it but he hadn't let his entire day become consumed by preparations. "Hopefully all the others agree." he had little doubt that they'd not; the food was made with all of them in mind.

Dimitri sighed faintly, picking up that wineglass to take a brief sip. "Well enough, keeping busy as it were." though not as much as he would like despite the belief of many that he worked too much. For Dimitri it was simply how he was. He did not deal with boredom or feeling stagnant. Such a need for movement. Even now he was rising to his feet to get his dear sister a drink to start her night with. Wine that would fit well with the food already presented to the table.

“And yourself?” he questioned lightly, though he did give glance to the door as he spoke it, feeling another sister nearing the door.

Justine knew perfectly well her siblings would pick up on something being amiss with her, it was the magnitude of the issue she hoped would stay hidden. Mikkos was, after all, no small piece of her past, each of them would know that. Whether to tell them of his return or not was a decision she still struggled with, even as she entered the dining room to join her brother. Mikkos had, after all, nearly been a member of their family all though years ago...had almost been a husband, a brother in law. He had been a friend and so surely her siblings would appreciate a warning so as to avoid being caught off guard as she had been? It was a decision likely to be decided one way or the other only at the last moment, when the words either chose to spill from her lips or stay tucked away. Until then, she just hoped the evening ran smoothly.

She watched as Dimitri stood and moved to the nearby drink cart to pour her a glass of wine. She accepted the glass with a warm smile, raising it to her lips as the two talked, keeping both eye and ear trained on the open door across the room from them. Chloe and Juliette should be arriving shortly and then things would truly be a family occasion.

"Things are....fine," she admitted after a moment, not wanting to outright lie to her brother. Things had been perfect lately: Chroma was making money and running without issue every night, she was content in her work and though she wished to see more of her siblings, her home life was happy as well. And now, well....one blast from the past had - appropriately enough - cast a shadow over all of that.

Though she had been looking very forward to the family dinner, Juliette had required a walk before hand. Dimitri had been insistent upon preparing the families meal for that night. With the help of staff, Juliette could not argue, she knew that he would enjoy the task, and saw no harm in it. He felt his place was to take care of his sisters, but she, felt that it was her place, to take care of him. Someone must, and who better, than his twin? Though, she tried her best, not to make it too obvious. Juliette knew that how important Dimitri's role in their family was.

As she returned home, she was greeted by the sound of two familiar voices. It would seem that she was not early what so ever. "Justine." She said softly, the corners of her mouth turned upward. It seemed only Chloe had not yet arrived, but thus far having the three of them there, improved her mood greatly. Once they youngest did join them, it would only increase that much more.

She placed her hand to Dimitri's shoulder, reaching up to kiss his cheek, "You've out done yourself, Brother, that is obvious by the wonderful aroma." Her attention then turned to her sister, who she also kissed, "I am so pleased, that everyone is able to attend." Her face shone, though, as she focused on her sister, she became aware of the conflict within her. She gave her a sympathetic smile, but decided not to ask just yet. This was to be a good night, and if Justine wished to share, she would.

"Dimitri, may I assist you?" She asked, wanting to make herself useful, before Chloe arrived. Then, they could all relax, and enjoy one anothers company.

Sensing Juliette before she set foot inside the dining room where Justine and Dimitri waited, a warm smile had already graced the eldest Baptiste's lips by the time she made her entrance. It had been far too long since they had all been together - having nearly all of them in one room simply reaffirmed that. Already she knew that they were onto her, that they sensed all was not quite right the usually so even-keeled Justine, but so far no one seemed to be pushing matters and for that she could breathe easy. Of course, Chloe had yet to arrive and she wasn't one to so easily let distress slip passed her radar. If anyone would be determined to figure out what had Justine on edge, it would be the baby of the family.

"Evening, Juliette," she leaned up to kiss her sister's cheek in greeting, her smile turning reassuring a the look of concern. "We've nearly all made it," she joked briefly, "Chloe should arrive at any moment." Then they'd all be together once again. Truly a comfort to each of them, the close-knit relationship the siblings had always had. Over the years it had changed, as they had, allowing them more personal space without ever damaging their connection. Each had their own life now, operated in an existence quite separate from the family as a whole. That was why nights like this were so important - it allowed them to reconnect with one another.

All wished to know what had Justine distressed; it was the nature of the family to be concerned for the others. But while they wished to know and were curious on the matter there was that respect for the others wishes. If they did not wish to speak it then none would force them to do so. All in the family knew that should they wish to talk the others would always be there for them. But all were old enough to understand that some matters had to be handled internally before they could be spoken out loud. Chloe could be pushy true enough, but even she wasn't so unfamiliar with a need to...mull things over first.

Likely they all realize that tonight was a night for family and none really wished to push into topics that could set them all on edge and bring about possible arguments. Though so alike in some ways the family was very different in others and it was only natural that opinions would not all be the same. Especially towards certain key topics.

Dimitri welcomed his twin with a smile and a returned kiss upon the cheek. "I can not take all the credit but I have no doubt that the meal will be memorable." he had not helped as much as he could have in the actual preparations of the meal but he had seen to the evening as a whole. There was more then just the food to consider. But she was correct that he had insisted in helping a bit with the meal. It gave him something to focus on and a brief break from the at times, monotony, of the job.

A hand squeezed his twins shoulder when she offered help, he knew that she would. "There is little to see to, the food is ready for whenever we wish it." the details had been seen to before the others arrived...which of course was a very Dimitri thing to do. But he didn't want any to have to fuss about. Food was ready, wine was there for all of them to enjoy. The only real movement would be to bring out other food should they wish for more or other varieties. He wasn't worried about a waste; he knew some that would quite enjoy receiving some home cooked food.

After the wine was given to Justine and Juliette now that she’d arrived Dimitri took seat again, comfortable relaxing and waiting until their littlest sister arrived. They all knew how Chloe was after all and that busy vampire tended to run a few minutes behind others clocks. It always amused Dimitri just a bit. The others were all accustomed to it and none of them minded.

But soon enough he heard her steps approaching. She was never too late for family gatherings. None of them were.

Choé, for all her perfection in social events, was not exactly the most well mannered of creatures. She spoke often, whatever was on her mind, what was on most everyone's mind. In fact, she was quite often more likely to do so outside the family. It all depended on the situation, and the person in question.

For instance, though she knew Dimitri had been to see their sire earlier in the week, Chloé would say nothing to him. That subject was entirely too much a sore spot for everyone in question, and Dimitri, even more than all of them, could be stubborn, and exheedingly private about his affairs. Besides, Chloé was secretly pleased to think they might reunite.

Yes, that was not a discussion needed right now if they were to even think of an enjoyable family affair.

And speaking of poor social manners, Chloé did often have a tendency to be late in arriving. This was not she believed, an indication of disrespect, but rather quite the opposite. Her tardiness was caused, at least in the case of this night, by an indecision in what outfit to best present them with. It often was the case as she might change her mind ten times or more within one hour. Finally, she’d settled on a casualoutfit, she made her way into the dining room.

“Bonsoir, ma famille chérie.” Good Evening, my darling family. Smiles all around as she greeted them all quite joyfully. A kiss to each cheek in turn before she finally took a seat next to Justine. She waited for Dimitri to offer her the first glass, as was the custom at their dinners. “Now you all can fill me in on all you were discussing, especially if it was about me.” Which, of course, it should have been!

"So it would seem." Of course, they were all curious as to what was bothering their sister. That was to be expected, with a family as close as their own. They all worried after one another, protected each other. That was how it would always be. If anyone were to pull such information from Justine, it would indeed be Chloe. Juliette, and Dimitri were more subtle with their concerns, and often waited for the information to be volunteered. After all, if it were very serious, it would have been discussed outright, no?

Juliette was not surprised to learn that all was taken care of for the most part. She was sure that ever little detail had been planned perfectly for the evening, and that they were in for quite a treat. "I suppose I should have returned earlier, to help." Which she would have, but the walk had been needed. One often needed to escape being inside for so long, at least for a time. She often felt smothered, if she did not. "Thank you." Taking the wine, she thanked Dimitri with a smile, before taking her place at the table. Her eyes moved over the two siblings, she could not hide how pleased she was, that they would all be here together.

Though they all new Chloe was close, she did tend to make an entrance. The youngest Baptiste had always carried a flare for the dramatic, a certain style that no one could match, she was sure. "Bonsoir, Chloe." She said, taking the offered kiss. "We were simply musing, as to when you might arrive. You did not give us the chance to dive into more lurid gossip." Juliette teased, smiling across the table to her.

Justine was quite happy to see Chloe arrive finally to join them, offering up a cheek for a kiss of greeting and offering one in return. It was no secret the special closeness the eldest and youngest of the family shared, but it was simply the fact that all of them were together for the evening that helped to ease some of the burden that seemed to otherwise weigh down Justine's slender shoulders. An evening with her beloved siblings was the perfect way to forget about everything that had clouded her mind as of late.

"So kind of you to join us at last, little one," she teased with a warm smile as Chloe took the seat beside her. Once she had wine in hand as well it seemed they were all settled in to let the evening truly begin.

"And what are we having tonight?" she cast her glanced toward Dimitri knowing that his knowledge of their menu for the night was extensive, given that he'd helped prepare what they would be evening. "Everything smells simply divine." And from the scents her heightened sense were picking up, it seemed that each of their favorites had been prepared for the evening. Leave it to Dimitri, of course, to ensure that everyone would be satisfied. These dinners were the one guaranteed time for them all to connect, to discuss their lives outside of the home, so it was only natural that no corners would be cut.

Once talk of the food to come had ended, it was time to move on to more casual discussion. "And how is the boutique, Chloe?" she glanced to her youngest sibling again, sure that sales were through the roof. There was no denying that the baby of the family had certainly gotten any fashion savvy gene that might have been floating around their DNA. It was rare that her shop would have a bad month, perhaps thanks to Chloe's expensive and varied tastes.

"There was little need for it. Matters were taken care of." Dimtiri responded to Juliette. He'd told her to not worry, that the dinner was not nearly as complicated as all of them seemed to think. The only real time consuming matter was the food and there could only be so many cooks in the kitchen as they say. Dimitri enjoyed putting together such an event for them. It kept him busy.

Such attention was turned when the youngest came into the room. She always did stand out and was always so eager to get all of that attention. She loved the limelight more then most and the siblings did not seem to mind at all giving it to her.

Dimitri knew of all the siblings that it would be Chloe that would be pleased by his meetings with their sire. That was why, of course, that she was the only one he truly spoke to on such matters. It was not that he kept the fact from the others no, Dimitri was not a man that lived in secrets. But more an understanding that certain topics were best just not spoken of with some. It amused him to think, however, of Chloe doing her best to keep such a pleased reaction to such information, to herself.

A kiss was pressed to the youngest cheek before she made her rounds of greeting and Dimitri rose to his feet to get her a glass of wine. But he did not venture back to the chair by the fire but instead urged them all to take a seat at the table. "A vast assortment of favorites of course." each had a dish that they enjoyed through the years and though some things did change, a favorite dish was still a favorite dish.

The items were upon the table, various plates all with small sized portions available for them to pick and choose at. All French cuisine for the moment. But the meal wasn't prepared to feed an army. Just enough for them to enjoy.

Wines were refilled and the food began to make its way to each of their plates. It wasn’t long before continued discussions began. The mention of the boutique did bring a smile to Dimitri’s lips however. The youngest had done well for herself and it was obvious that it was a job well suited for her. “It is rare that I can pass a group of woman talking without hearing the boutiques name mentioned once or twice.” Chattering was truly the more fitting term to such groups but none the less.

Juliette and Dimitri, like Justine, had far better manners than Chloe. Oh, it was not that the youngest Baptiste didn’t know better, she most certainly did, but outside the family Chloe was all about pushing boundaries. Within the family, she just felt comfortable enough to assume their business was also her own. It never hurt to ask. And if they told her not to concern herself it was doubtful she’d listen, though she might have the grace to respect their wishes, at least to a degree. Such as with Dimitri and Ophelia. Of course, much as she loved drama outside the family, she was no fan of it when it affected those she loved. No, she had no desire to see Juliette and Justine saddened. On the other hand, though she missed their sire, and loved her still, that did not truly mean she was eager to see a reunion between her and Dimitri. Their brother had been crushed. He hid it well yes, but Chloe did not wish to see a repeat of anything that could so deeply would her dear Dimitri.

“Pity that. I do so love knowing my name is on everyone’s lips. Shall I leave then and give you more time?” Offered with a pleasant smile and a happy laugh. If any took true and full enjoyment from these gatherings, it was Chloe. Partly because it was true how she did enjoy being adored, but also because of all the people she’d ever met in this world the three here in the room with her were the ones that most adored in return

She accepted the offered wine with a brilliant smile and moved along with the others to the beautifully set up table. “Really, Dimitri? I had not imagines you to have such interest in the prattle of women.” She winked at her brother and gave him a charming smile, of course no harm meant.

“Business is well.” She sat after her older sister, showing her real manners in these most old fashioned gestures. “As is your own gallery, oui? All the murmurings I hear are how those Baptiste siblings seem poised to take over Seattle.

“They are not so far off, are they?” She asked to all of her siblings with an amused laugh and a lifting of her glass.

Speaking of their sire, would undoubtedly bring a shift in mood, to the dinner. As Dimitri, and Chloe felt fondly for the woman, Juliette, and Justine despised her. Ophelia was a topic, better left out of the conversation. As it was, Juliette could sense that her brother was hiding something from her. This did not happen often, so she feared that it was something which he knew would upset her. Why else keep her in the dark. Even with that in mind, she would not have guessed that a meeting between the two, was what he's been keeping to himself. None of them wished for Ophelia to cause Dimitri pain once more, but with that connection between them, avoiding her completely, could not be expected.

After placing down her glass of wine, she rested her hands in her lap, listening to the conversation. All the while, she wondered what had been troubling Justine. Perhaps she should ask her later? Juliette would have to agree, she would never expected her brother to be listening in on the conversations of women. "Is this a new fascination, brother?" She asked with a soft smile. With so many women living in the tower, over hearing conversations was not difficult. Supernatural hearing did not help in that sense either. But truly paying attention?

If any family could concur Seattle, it was theirs. It all ready seemed that they had their hands in a little bit of everything. "What a disappointment it would be, if that were not true." Speaking of business, this might be the perfect evening, to discuss offering her help to her sisters. Though, she could not say she knew much of fashion, nor art, just having the chance to spend more time with her two sisters would be so welcomed. After dinner, she would question them.

It was a relief when Chloe finally joined them, rounding out the foursome that they had become. It wasn't until they were all together that things finally felt right, that it felt as if perhaps they weren't all growing as apart as it sometimes felt. The distance was necessary sometimes and truly was to be expected given how long they'd all been together. It took nothing from the bond that so obviously kept them so close to one another and wasn't it about time they each began to forge a separate path anyway? It was a difficult change to accept, of course, but it was also a growth the Justine loved to witness.

Of course, with each of them heading off somewhat to indulge in those desires for their own life, it was only natural to think that each might take with them a handful of secrets. It was obvious that at least two of the siblings tonight were slightly out of sorts, both Justine and Dimitri seemed perhaps a bit more on-edge than usual. Not to say either was truly all that laid back to begin with, but surely their siblings had noticed that neither one was truly themselves. Unaware of his contact with Ophelia, Justine couldn't have guessed what bothered her brother so, but she knew he would confess nothing unless the mood struck him. No to mention, of course, that he truly was in a lose/lose situation - to tell them of his meeting with their sire would make waves he undoubtedly wished to avoid, but to keep their "reunion" a secret would only spawn distrust and likely, anger.

Though she wished to warn them of Mikkos' return, tonight was not a night that she would ruin, not when she had missed them all. It had been far too long since the last dinner and already conversation had turned to more pleasant talk, namely of the sibling's endeavors outside of the Towers. "Chroma's doing quite well," she admitted with a soft smile, glancing towards the youngest of them who'd taken up a seat beside her, "I don't know that it compares to the buzz I'm hearing about your boutique, but it's definitely a success."

To think that Dimitri only felt fondly towards Ophelia was to speak as one that barely knew Dimitri at all. His feelings towards Ophelia today were as chaotic as they had been for all the years that separated them. There was a part of him that forever was drawn to her. Not just by the blood within his veins but more. But that pain, that hurt, had far from faded and as such it left him always...on edge when it came to that topic. One that always was best left not discussed. Even with his twin.

But that was the nature of life was it not? No matter how close, no matter how tight you were with another, never truly could you speak all to one person. No matter the love...there was always something that could divide it. A harsh reality but a reality all the same.

And it was one that Dimitri kept close to heart. A reason that he kept much to himself anymore. That none were quite as close as perhaps long ago they had been.

Dimitri managed a smirk to his sisters teasings none the less "It is a bit difficult to not overhear with how loudly so many of them speak. It as though they think all their friends deaf." and with such enhanced hearing it could nearly be jarring to the senses how some of them carried on. But always the protective sort any time he heard mention of his sisters or the family name he had the urge to pay attention. One never knew just what they'd hear or if it would be helpful down the line.

"I've heard such amused rumors as well. Likely they are quite unaware of just how possible that could be. But city take over really never has been my interest." and he doubted it was any of theirs either. Certainly they all enjoyed notice to varying degrees and though Dimitri did love to be rather immersed in his work, lime light to that degree was not anything they sought for. Already the family name had quite the light upon it. And not the sort that was always such a...wanted thing. As was the case with Julien and those that had targeted them. They all knew to be careful.

“But that does not still me from looking into other business ventures.” A fact that wouldn’t come as much a surprise really. Dimitri was the sort that had need to keep busy. To be challenged constantly. Running the Towers was far from that and there was no doubt that it began to drain on him. The tediousness. That was why in the past he often moved around, travel to keep the mind immersed in new cultures, no worlds as it were.

“Both businesses, it seems, only continue to advance in notice and demand. Only a matter of time before cliental begin to ask when more locations will open.”

“They do tend to chatter, don’t they?” Human women, and quite often those of other races as well. Like a gaggle of hens. On and on and on. Drove Chloe insane at times. Men could be far less of an irritation. No wonder she was so picky when it came to women.

“Speak for yourself, brother dear.” Chloe laughed softly and sipped at her wine. She also picked at some paté she found presented before her and some delicious cheeses. “I for one, don’t intend to stop at Seattle. Nope, going to take over the world. Whose with me?” She glanced from one sibling to the next, glass raised in solidarity though all in good nature. “Juliette you, most certainly. It’s the quiet ones they have to watch out for.” She gave her a wink.

“God, I don’t blame you.” She replied to Dimitri as he spoke of dabbling in other business ventures. “I’d die of boredom if all I had was this building and her thankless tenants. The two of you should be awarded sainthood with your patience here.” Between nibbles on some favorite foods, which her stomach had long ago give up on caring for, Chloé puffed away at a long slender cigarette. What? It went well with wine and conversation. Besides, it was not as though any here needed to breath while they ate. Even if Justine had never been a great fan. She avoided blowing it directly in her face.

Anyway, Dimitri might appreciate it, seeing as he often had one at his own lips.

“Okay, then it’s not Chroma that’s eating away at you this evening. It must be something else. What is it, Mother… spill the beans.”

So Chloé could never be accused of having too much couth. At least she wasn’t blowing smoke in her face.

Perhaps fond, was not the best way of looking at the connection. They all shared a bond with the woman, but neither Justine, nor Juliette would be quick to speak with their sire. The same could not be said of the other Baptiste siblings. Secrets could be complex, and those were often ones, best kept to oneself. They all had their own hidden thoughts, ones that they would not share with another soul. Not for lack of trust in one another, but simply because it was those little things, that made one an individual. Not all could be shared, this was true.

She could not help, but to smile at that. "Yes, we are always the ones, who tend to be plotting something." Lifting her glass, her eyes drifted to her brother, the amusement clear in her face. Yes, she tended to be the quiet one, of their family. Maybe this was because, most of her time was spent with Dimitri, and they more often than not, didn't require speaking with one another. That odd connection, that at times left speech as optional. "What work, that I do, does not compare to our brothers, but, I do enjoy it. There is something comforting, in the constant flow." It reminded one to live.

It was bound to happen, surly they had all been expecting it. Her eyes did raise to Justine, when the question was presented, but she did not focus so heavily upon her, knowing that it would likely make her uncomfortable. Perhaps it was best, that it all came out into the open now, rather than several different versions of the story, reaching each of them separately. This way, it came straight from the source, no facts would be lost, or misinterpreted. All opinions could be cast aside, until all of the information, was indeed, upon the table.

Justine had known, from the moment she'd stepped foot into the dining room that night, that someone at some point would ask such a question - she had even, in fact, counted on it being Chloe. Dimitri would never ask, he wasn't the type to pry...between them was a silent understanding that if one wished to speak, the other was available - it was the same thing that kept her from inquiring as to what bothered him. Juliette she knew would have inquired just out of concern, but that would have been a question posed when the two were alone. Chloe, on the other hand, was exactly the type to ask as soon as the mood struck her to do so...and that was just what had occurred.

The eldest Baptiste raised her eyes for a moment to find herself the momentary focus of concern, setting aside her wineglass with a soft sigh. Chloe wasn't the type to let this go, especially not when it was Justine that was perturbed. She raised a napkin to dab at the corners of her mouth, buying herself a moment or two as she considered how to go about doing this. "I suppose it's best just to tell you all since it's something I'm sure you'll hear of soon anyway," there was no way to keep her former fiance's return secret, especially not with his son in tow.

"I had a visitor to Chroma not long ago, a young man that I hadn't met before but he seemed vaguely familiar - I couldn't place why, exactly," she settled back against her chair, hands folded across her lap. "Turns out that he is Mikkos' son," she thought perhaps it was simply best to come out with it, it was difficult enough to tell them, no need to draw it out. "It seems both he and his father have settled in Seattle for an indeterminate amount of time. Mikkos came to Chroma the other night to tell me exactly that." Or it seemed, that was what had come out of it - what his original intent with the visit had been seemed to have been lost on both of them.

It was out, she'd shared with her beloved siblings what had gotten under her skin so. Leaning forward, she reached for her wineglass to take another sip to fill the silence while each digested her news. She could guess at how each might react to such news; it was Chloe she worried about most, knowing how protective the youngest of them was over her older siblings. "I don't plan on having any further contact with either Mikkos or his son," she added after a moment, "but he is here, he is in Seattle on business, and I suppose you should all be aware of that."

It was no surprise when the youngest of them finally came out with the question all had wondered but not asked. Chloe was not the sort to beat around the bush or…deny the elephant in the room so to speak. Why not ask out right if you want to know? It was a trait to respect, as it took great strength to simply come right out with things. All of them could be that way at times when it was needed, such as business. But with family it was often a bit uncertain. To push or not push. Chloe could be counted on to push.

Eyes did towards the other, a brow arching slightly so but it was up to her to speak up or to dismiss it for later discussion. She knew they were all here for her, that all would hear what had bothered her so before tonight. There could be many reasons really…but the one that was about to be spoken was not one that Dimitri had expected.

The other had been gone for some time, the demon that Dimitri had always watched warily. He was not unwilling to trust but he knew that there was a need to be careful with demon kind. Especially those born and bred in hell. He’d met enough to know the feelings of those from hell about those on the surface. And he knew that often when you thought you knew them…you did not. He was wary as it was his sister the man was influencing. His sister that the man could harm. It was only natural to be protective, to need that…proof as it were.

He knew it had devastated Justine when he disappeared. Both knew that feeling of loss too well and that was why Dimitri knew that her words of it seemingly mattering so little…were hopeful thoughts. A need to convince herself of such.

Eyes narrowed just slightly so to the news and though silent he did join his sister in that smoke. It was something to keep his hands busy, something to keep him from rising to his feet. Dimitri always suffered from that need to move when hearing news that did not all together please him. But any choices made were her own, in this. Unlike his sisters he’d not seek to believe matters of the heart were so easy to push away.

“Does he seek to have continued contact with you, however? It is never so one sided.” One could say all they wished that they’d not have contact with another but if the other had different plans…then their words against it did not truly still anything at all. Both were stubborn and there was much past involved….that never made things so cut and dry. Not like a person wanted it to be.

Dimitri took a drag from the cigarette. Business…was it business then that drew him away with no words? He did not push that particular aspect of things though.

What concerned Dimitri most, above all, was his sister. He did not wish to see her hurt again.

Not that any of the Baptiste’s were particularly babbling brooks. Possibly why some questioned their intentions. Juliette though, was the quietest of them all. “I admire that you can deal with it, the tedium. Though I don’t suppose it seems such if you actually like it though, hmm?” To each his own, and her own. “I could use someone with a mind for such details at the shop.” Chloe rather deal with the creative aspect and, of course she had no trust for anyone outside her family to handle money or other such aspects. Chloe found all that a dreadful bore, irritating enough that she’d nearly closed down her shop.

No time like the present, hmm? And with Justine so obviously affected Chloe was more than a little curious to know. She practically demanded it. And no, she’d not let it go. Even if she did for the moment, or for the evening, she’d pick it up again until she knew Justine was okay. Even at the risk of being slapped down herself, as though that would ever happen. But certainly, she was always willing to risk angering a loved one if she really believed it necessary.

Her brow tipped up at the mention of Mikkos’ son. Intriguing information. No, shocking actually. And this too showed in her face. But the shock subsided for concern, a sympathetic presence reserved for so very few. She pouted slightly, worried for her sister’s tender heart.

“Well, where the hell has the fucking devil been? Did he tell you that? Or why he saw fit to scurry off on the eve of his wedding?” Her wine drained, she poured more and drank that rather quickly as well. The sympathy remained, though hard now to find beneath her sudden anger. The quickly spent cigarette was snuffed out only to be replaced by another. She could tell how antsy Dimitri now seemed, though it was a mood likely shared by all in the room as their emotions suddenly ran high.

The silver utensil in her hand, was laid down gentle on her plate, as the news of Mikkos return sunk in. Her face became hard, her lips a tense line, as her hands came to rest in her lap. What could one say, that hadn't all ready been said. All questions which had been presented by the other Baptiste siblings, were valid, and to the point. Each wanted answers. A man, who had betrayed their sister, had reappeared, and made contact with her. What of the son as well. This was certainly new. No, this was no small matter easily swept beneath the rug.

She feared this would bring more unneeded trouble to their family. Pain for Justine, that she was all ready feeling. After so long, such a wound could still throb achingly. "Yes, were all curious, as to what was said, and if he intends to contact you once more..." It was obvious by her tone, that she would rather that not happen. It was Justine's matter to attend to though, and she would. Juliette could not help that she wanted to keep her family from all those evils, and heart aches.

Her eyes moved to Dimitri, asking what they might do, with no words spoken. If something could be done, to prevent his further contact. It was not her place, and she knew it. But, that did not mean she could not hope. She knew he felt the same as she, though hers might not be such a hopeful, forgiving outlook. Not to say that any of them carried one. Juliette knew this, if Mikkos caused further trouble for her sister, there would be no looking the other way this time around.

The questions she'd so expected were the first that fell from her siblings lips, were the very ones she'd asked herself in those initial moments borne of seeing him again. Had she gotten the answers that would satisfy her? Truthfully? No. But she supposed what she had gotten would have to pass for her, as she had no intention of having any further contact with her one-time fiance - regardless of what he might have in mind. Justine could be quite stubborn when she was a woman with a goal in mind, particularly when that goal was one that would protect a surprisingly tender heart.

"I can't say that I care much what his intentions are," she admitted, glancing up at the three of them and though they might have doubted her, in that moment her sincerity was clear. Justine would take much onto herself, but she wasn't one to allow themself to be burned twice. Whatever Mikkos might have in mind for future interactions, he could rest assured that she would make them most difficult for him. She wouldn't be toyed with again; weakness was an unbecoming trait when worn on her slender shoulders.

"We discussed, briefly, what happened back then. It doesn't matter much now, I suppose, but I can assure you all that there will be no round two. As far as I'm concerned, unless by accident or because he seeks you out, that is once familiar face that will not be making a reappearance." That stubborn streak was making quite the bold appearance, though it had taken a most definite toll on the evening's mood. She turned her gaze to Chloe, "And you....no killing anyone, alright?" She was teasing of course, a dark brow arching in time with a faint smile that pulled at her lips. A new subject seemed appropriate.

There was no denying that those within this family had stubbornness above and beyond many others. He knew that when his sister spoke that what she said was filled with determination to make it so. It was not a lack of belief in the words, not in the least, but more an understanding that so much in the world was not as finite as one wished for it to be. His own life, as of late, seemed to prove that fact all too clearly. The heart was one that once scorned kept the wounds...but wasn't always as ruled by them as hoped.

He could hope, however, for his sisters sake that her words remained true. The demon presented many problems and held many risks. Far more then only the threat of another broken heart. There was more then that to consider, for all of the family. The mans family was not one that sat idly at the sidelines when something they did not wish to happen, was. That put them all now at risk should the other continue advancements.

Dimitri met his twins gaze, a look she'd know well holding his features. There was a part of him that wished to play the part of protective brother. To seek the other out and make certain that he did not come near again. But as much as he wished to do so...it wasn't truly his place. This was not his battle. Though he'd certainly make it so if the demon brought threat upon all of them.

"I do. His presence here is bigger then just that of the man you once were to marry." and as such Dimitri wanted, no needed, to know clearly what the man wanted here. "His family is a threat, one that could see more to his arrival here then we wish." Dimitri did not take the anger of demons lightly. Though the family was strong the demons family ties were far higher in number and strength. That was not something Dimitri wanted raining down upon them. It wouldn't bode well for any.

Still as she reconfirmed her position in this matter Dimitri nodded his head vaguely. "Then we can all hope that he has the same feelings on the matter as you." but he had the feeling that that would simply be...too easy. That matters with such heavy pasts and deep emotions never simply ended so clean cut or smoothly. "But if he approaches any, he or his son, we all have need to know." a matter of...precaution if you will.

His gaze turned towards the youngest when Justine attempted to tease and lighten the mood. Such a tease all of them could understand. Chloe did have a habit more then the rest, to let her emotions seek out those in question and face them head on. She could be quite outspoken but this wasn’t just any matter. Though a tease, he did hope Chloe realized the importance of not seeking any of them out.

“A mess none would like to clean up.” Except perhaps that ghost that made her way through the halls of the Towers.

Chloe watched as Juliette reacted with such poise. So demure, so genteel, and yet still so angry. An anger Chloe knew, though perhaps hard to pigue, one did not want to be on the receiving end of.

Justine took a lot of shit from those she loved. Chloe knew this first hand, being one to take full advantage of those who loved her. Yes, she knew what a selfish bitch she was, even with her family, who gave so freely and easily to their youngest.

She made a scoffing noise to Justine’s insistence the demon wouldn’t be back around. The man she remembered was far too determined a creature to so easily give up. Chloe was convinced it would not end here.

To Dimitri’s words, Chloe’s eyes narrowed dangerously. Words could not describe the anger she felt. Anger for his departure, for his sudden return, and that he could in any way hold threat against their family. How dare he? Still, she did nod obediently perhaps, to Dimitri’s words of caution.

Her own brow arched in reply to Justine’s good-humored request, though her own gesture implied far more malevolence. In fact, she didn’t reply at all. Did she have the strength to achieve such on her own? Not even close. But she was at least as determined as the demon in question, perhaps more so as Justine was her sister. Chloe would do what she felt necessary. She always did. Where the others were too respectful of each other to make such battles their own, Chloe showed her respect in other ways. Like with a nice box of cordials.

Though she could guarantee no such thing, she did offer a smile of her own in return and a pat of her hand over her sister’s. She smiled also for Dimitri and Juliette, whose eyes she could feel… if only to ease their concern.

If it had not been so obvious, that their sister wished for a change of subject, the matter would not have been brushed aside so easily. No, she knew that the matter had not truly ended, nor would it for a time. Not until each had allowed it to filter through their minds, until each found a type of resolution with it. Not when the subject could prove to be a dangerous one. Her temper, was a unique one. It wasn't often that you found her upset, or angry. No, it wasn't until everything had completely built up, to a point where it could no longer be contained, that she would lash out. This, however, had certainly added to a future blow up. For now, however, calm she would remain.

Chloe was obviously more willing to express what they all were feeling. Her noise of disgust, reflected the disbelief that they all held. Why would he have made contact, if his intentions were to maintain distance. It did not make much sense to her. It would seem that he wished to present a certain intention to Justine, possibly even the family. Mikkos knew how close they were, so he would surly be expecting them all to be aware of his return. He he thought they could be so easily persuaded, he was sadly mistaken. One doesn't live for several centuries, without being some what clever.

"Of course." They would be cautious, and out of respect for Justine, the matter would be left to her. Unless the demon decided to go against his promise, then he would likely be dealing with the entire family. Chloe certainly would be more than willing to put the bastard in his place. Juliette's eyes rested upon her younger sister, feeling some what amused by her lack of reaction. There might have even been a hint of a smile upon her lips. "Justine, we are always at your aid, you know this." She gave her head a little nod, before lifting her wine glass once more. If everyone else was willing for the conversation to turn, it seemed she should be as well. Besides, why should they let Mikkos disrupt their family evening? They should not, he had no right to do so.

Their concern for Justine, for the piece of information she had just shared was obvious - she could see it in the covert glances that suddenly snuck around the table, in the tension that settled into Juliette's slender shoulders. "I appreciate the concern," she set her silverware aside to grace them all with a gentle smile, "truly, I do, but I assure you that I will be fine. I have no intention of having any further contact with Mikkos, should he feel differently then I will address that issue as it arises. Truly, don't concern yourselves with me, I'm quite alright." Each and every one of them had more important things to focus on, there was no need to occupy important time with fretting over a love affair from a lifetime ago that might be giving her trouble. The first to worry about her siblings, Justine was the last to want such things in return.

"Truly, now, no need to worry. I simply wanted to make you all aware, in case my behavior tonight seemed a bit...off. Let's turn talk to better things, shall we?" she glanced between the three, hoping that that was enough for now, they they'd let the topic slide. There was still so much that she was working to digest - hashing things out was not quite something she was prepared for just yet. She knew Chloe would be fiercely overprotective now, given this perceived threat, but still Justine did her best to assure her, through word and act, that she was find. Shaken, perhaps, but from surprise and not lingering emotion...as much of a lie as that might have been.

"You mentioned Juliette could be an asset to the boutique, didn't you?" she cast a glance at Chloe, bringing up the brief, overlook comment from an earlier bit of the siblings' conversation. "I think it's a good idea, actually. And if not Vivant, then Chroma would always welcome you," she turned her attention to Juliette for a moment, assuring her with a warm smile. Discussing any but Mikkos seemed preferable, at the moment.

"There is no such thing as us not concerning ourselves with you Justine. You should know this well." Dimitri spoke in a tone not quiet as eager to dismiss this all as the rest were now willing to. But while his concern was on her, it was not only her. The matter was not that simplistic or direct. Not if the demon chose to push. Dimitri had dealt with many demons in his life. He understood the dynamics of the ways of hell for them....and no disgrace or lack of respect were not tolerated with such ease.

Demons were the sort that did not forget and certainly did not forgive easily. He had his doubts that the matter was so closed all around.

The fact that his own blood was brought into that mater...it did not sit well for Dimitri. Not in the least. How could it? The demon was a threat not only to Justine's heart but for them all simply by his own stubbornness. It had Dimitri on edge. And edge that would not disappear by a change of topic. But he'd not dissuade such either. He'd stay among them, talk among them, but like it was obvious to them all that his thoughts were on more then just the here and now.

He had cause for concern. They all did. For many reasons.

But at the least it seemed they all understood that. Willing to see the situation from all angels and understand just why the demons presence was such a risk to the family as a whole let alone Justine. Dimitri could only hope that things did not turn so dark. But hope and he did not have the best of relationships and often Dimitri saw those worst possible outcomes for what would likely be. All he could do now, however, was watch...and be prepared for whatever came to pass.

And for whenever it did. For creatures such as them there were so many years for things to build up…for things to explode when you thought they had all passed and been forgotten.

As the girls spoke Dimitri took a bit of a back seat to the conversation. Sipping upon his wine, smoking his cigarette, watching all three with care for their words. But the topic at hand was for the sisters. Juliette would do well to be more involved in the other siblings work as well. Perhaps it would be more to her liking or at the least, a change of pace. They all needed that from time to time.

No, Chloe was not exactly eager to switch subjects, being a headstrong little bitch she could sometimes be. But Juliette’s thinking was right… he had no right to disturb their enjoyable night together. That would be like him somehow having some control over them now, and no, Chloé would not stand for it.

She smiled and nodded when Justine mentioned Juliette and Vivant. “Oui. Juliette you seem to have far more patience with business matters than I do. I might close if I have to think too much on all that. Il me fais chier.” She grinned, yes the words were prettier than in English, but they all knew the meaning to be quite ugly. She wanted to shit on the technicalities, the dull paperwork that sucked her soul. But she would not trust anyone to touch it, besides family.

Another cigarette and Chloe leaned back, switching and relaxing, just as Juliette had insisted, though in the back of her mind were thoughts, and knowledge, that she’d not let it die. On a whim though, wishing to lighten the mood utterly, or at least to remind them all of the reason they were there, she took Dimitri’s hand in her own and kissed his knuckles with a wink. Then she turned to Justine and did the same before reaching across to Juliette’s slender hand as well.

A means to keep things light. The rest of the night would progress as such. The sisters talking about their businesses and how the others could aid them and Dimitri giving words when appropriate but generally keeping rather quiet through the rest of the night. There was much on his mind now, as though he lacked such. Always there were thoughts of the future, of the world around them, and how every seemingly small thing could mean so much more. But no, he did not let such thoughts ruin what the night was supposed to mean for all of them. Worried or no, the night was for family and all sought to remember that.

The food prepared was enjoyed and many glasses of wine were poured through the night. Eventually the family moved away from the table to relax more in the living room. Speaking by the warmth of the fire with only that and candlelight to light the room. In a way it nearly felt like old times…

Eventually they all gave parting words of goodnight. The night hours slipping away till the sun was near to rise. How many of them would actually rest was another matter all together. But kisses were given to the cheeks and hugs of course. Soon they all disappeared off to their own rooms.

For Dimitri the night, or day as it were, would hold little rest. Now…he had matters of concern to see to. Though much of it would have to wait until the night fell again. But by the time the sun rose the soft family chatter and sounds of life had dimmed to silence.
