Week Four : Sunday
Who: Alex and Serena
When: Afternoon
Where: The Towers

It felt good to be out of Lake Tahoe. The drive to Seattle was.. pretty gorgeous. It was his first time ever traveling up that way and he had thoroughly enjoyed the drive. It made the more than 13 hour drive seem like it lasted only minutes. Actually, the drive was horrible. He had started out yesterday afternoon but by the time he had made it to Eugene, Oregon he was exhausted and had ended up spending the night in a motel out there. He woke up early in the morning and finished the rest of the drive, making it into Seattle shortly after noon and getting lost trying to find his way to the towers. It was just approaching 2pm when he finally found where he was supposed to be.

He parked his 1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS Z28 right in front of the large building before climbing out of the car. The jeans he wore were well worn, ripped in places and faded everywhere. He wore with it a white t-shirt that showed the tell-tale signs of many grease-laden incidents. His hair was a bit of a mess and his face stubbly but there was no denying that he was an incredibly handsome guy. He pulled a pack of smokes out of his pocket along with a zippo and placed on between his lips, lighting it up to inhale a deep drag before pulling out his cellphone and dialing his sister's number.

The phone rang once, twice, and then he heard her voice on the other end. "I'm out front. Get your ass downstairs and help me." He remarked, ashing this cigarette as he walked around behind the car to the U-Haul tag-along and opened up the lock. "I have to have this thing back by seven or they'll charge for an extra day."

After taking a walk down memory lane the night before with Kaden, she had spent the rest of the night soaking in her tub and trying not to cry. It had been hard on her heart but she was glad that she had made it through it and extended an olive branch. Even though he didn't remember her, she couldn't picture her life without him and was not ready to completely let go. There was always that chance that he might remember and she knew that she would regret it for the rest of her life if she was not there waiting for him. But could she wait forever?

This morning she was doing better and a nice job with Tony coupled with the fact that her brother would be there later that afternoon did wonders for her spirit. After the run and a shower, she shared some breakfast with the dog and got busy trying to get as much put away as possible before Alex arrived with even more stuff that was going to need a home. Oh, and of course she made sure that her spare room was completely ready for its new guest.

Serena practically dove for her phone when it rang and couldn't keep the smile off of her face. "Yeah, yeah, I'm coming!" He was so demanding, sheesh! Even though she was wearing a pair of ratty jeans and a t-shirt she may or may not have stolen from her brother back in the day with her hair sticking out from its ponytail every which way, she ran out into the hall and headed downstairs.

"LEXY!" Her smile could have lit even the darkest room as she sprinted toward him and leapt into arms. "God it's good to see you!" The strongest hug she could manage was given and time seemed to stop as the two embraced. "You have no idea how much I've missed you," she muttered as she pressed a big ol' kiss to his cheek. "Have you gotten taller?" Yeah, she had missed him something fierce.

Alex would never admit to anyone how much he missed his sister. It just wasn't right for a grown man to be so attached but he was, and if could have her around all the time, he would. And that was a definite possibility if she agreed to have him.

He started to grab a few of the boxes from the back of the tag-along after she had hung up the phone, smiling around the cigarette that dangled from his lips. It was the only way to keep his energy at a normal level as he waited for her to come downstairs. It felt like years since he had seen her even though it had only been a few months at most. But considering all the time they spent together in their childhood, a few months was like a couple of years and the past few years had been especially rough on him.

When he heard her voice, an instant grin spread from cheek to cheek and he braced himself, turning to receive the hug, the cigarette carefully discarded to the side. Arms wrapped around her tightly, reciprocating the monster of a hug as he lifted her up a bit and gave her a little bit of a swing. "I didn't get taller. You just got shorter, Midget." He remarked with that smirky grin of his, placing her firmly back down on her feet.

He eyed her for a moment, not in a lecherous way at all, as a slight frown came over his lips. "What's wrong?" He asked. Yes, she was smiling. Yes, she looked incredibly happy. But he knew his sister and he knew that there was something going on with her. And then something else took his attention. "Is that my shirt?" He arched a brow slightly. "You thief. I've been lookin' for that." For around a dozen years at least.

Grown or not, Serena wasn't afraid to admit that she had missed her brother. The pair was a mere three years apart and spent pretty much every day for the next fifteen attached at the hip. Sure they had their moments of brother and sister smackdowns, but there was no question that she adored Alex to no end and would do just about anything for him.

Her nose wrinkled and she gave him a mock glare as he teased her and it seemed only fair that she give him a pinch in the side. "It's not my fault that you got all of the tall genes." Truth be told, Serena rather liked her average height. It gave her the opportunity to wear heels and not tower over her date and helped her in her work with children. A doctor never wanted to appear intimidating after all.

Inwardly she cringed as he called her out but kept her smile firmly in place. "Nothing is wrong, well except maybe the fact that you smell like an ash tray." She definitely was not a fan of her brother's smoking and secretly had decided that it was her mission in life to break him of that nasty habit. "No," she answered quickly. "You must have it confused with a different shirt." Busted.

"Come on and let's get this stuff upstairs. I don't want to have to listen to you bitch about having to pay for an extra day." When all else fails, distract your brother and run upstairs. Seemed like a pretty safe plan. "Besides, I can't wait for you to see my new place!" A box was grabbed and lifted into her arms before she turned and headed back inside. One short elevator ride later and she was pushing open the door.

"Well, here it is. What do you think?"

"Ow!" Alex said, laughing a little as he squirmed away from the pinch. He reached a hand out and pinched her right back. "And that is why I like to refer to you as my little sister." He teased, always taking the opportunity to pick on her about her height simply because he knew it didn't really bother her. If it did, he'd never mention it, but because she didn't care too much about it, it made for decent banter. Girls were supposed to be somewhat short, after all. No man liked having a date that looked like an amazon, at least not any men that he knew of.

He would let it go, let it slide, for now, but before the day was over, he was going to pry it out of her. He wasn't an idiot. He knew how to read her like a book. "I won't smoke in your house." He said, rolling his eyes a little. He them narrowed them a bit to her next remark. "Uh huh. Sure." She was always stealing his t-shirts. He had actually sort of missed them going missing over the past couple of years.

"Go ahead and change the subject. Just know that we're not finished." He remarked, gathering up a couple of the boxes and following her into the building. He thought about telling her his plans while in the elevator, but decided against it. That could wait until later too, once everything was unloaded.

The apartment was undeniably her. "Nice." He said, as his eyes roamed about the room, though it didn't sound too convincing. "I mean, nice for you." He added with a laugh. It was far too put together for his taste. "Where you want these?"

"Ugh, whatever baby brother," she countered with a roll of her eyes. Yeah she was shorter than he was, but he was still younger and that was all that mattered. Hee. Though really none of that seemed to matter because they had always treated each other like equals.

Serena smirked. "You're damn right you won't. I'd hate to have to smother you in your sleep." Being around Alex definitely brought out her playful side and it was something she had missed with everything that had happened. Oh, and don't worry, his shirts would go missing again and soon!

"Again, I don't know what you are talking about." Stealing shirts and changing the subject? Nope, wasn't ringing any bells.

"Thanks, just put them anywhere." The box she had been holding was set off to the side and she watched as Alex set down the boxes. It was really nice seeing him there in her new home, he just fit. "Your room is just as "nice" by the way, but I hope you won't hold that against me while you're here." The thought of having him leave again sometime soon made her heart ache and she hated to think of it. "Speaking of which, how long are you going to stay? A couple of days at least, right?"

And to that, she got the tongue. Alex never behaved as silly around anyone as he did when he was around Serena. They had always had a really good brother and sister relationship, unlike a lot of people that he knew, and he saw nothing wrong with a little bit of playfulness. At least it hadn't gotten to the point yet where she called him her baby sister and reminded him of the many times she had dressed him up in her frilly dresses and made her play tea party with her.

"You couldn't do that if you tried." He retorted back to her, a foot giving her a swift, but light, kick in the ass as he balanced the boxes in hand.

A roll of the eyes was given, but she knew it was coming, the serious talk once the initial giddiness had worn off. But there would be plenty of time for it.

"I never said there was anything wrong with nice." He remarked, placing the boxes down on the table so that she could easily go through them without having to pick them up. They were a bit heavy. "Just as long as it's not pink and frilly, I won't complain much."

A hand moved up to run fingers down over his chin then up along his scruffy jawline. "Mom and dad are expecting me back by next weekend. But I dunno. Whenever I guess. I.. kinda quit my job so.. don't gotta be in a hurry or anything." He was testing the waters for a reaction before breaking out the whole truth.

"Ha! I totally could! Mainly because you wouldn't hit a girl." And with that he got a view of her tongue as she stuck it out at him which of course was followed by a scowl after he kicked her. "I am so going to get you back for that, just you wait." Promises, promises.

At the mention of pink and frilly, Serena looked downright guilty. "You mean you're over the Barbie bedding? Dammit." Fortunately, Serena wasn't a pink and frilly type of girl and definitely wouldn't ever decorate her apartment that way. However, it was fun to tease him and make him question what type of Pepto-Bismol colored hell she might be forcing him to stay in. Heh.

The news that he quit his job caught her a bit by surprised and she looked at him carefully for a moment before speaking. "Well I hope you packed your stuff too because it looks like you'll be moving in." She hadn't known all of the details regarding Natalia but she did know that she had broken his heart. In addition to that, she knew that Tahoe was a small town and that her brother needed out so that he could make a name for himself out in the world.

"I think you'll like Seattle. It's got that big city feel but still reminds me of home." It wasn't like her brother to just pack everything up and leave so she knew this would be a big step for him and could only hope that he would stay while he found his way again.

"I don't have to hit you to tickle you till you piss yourself." Alex arched a brow testily though it was all in jest. And as if he had read her mind, he remarked with a laugh, "Promises, promises," to that last part because he knew better.

A brow arched sharply and then he glanced towards the other couple of doors in the room. He looked back at her and shook his head. "You wouldn't. You don't have it in you." He challenged her, knowing that she would never come up with the idea, for one, and for two, she wouldn't decorate her dream apartment in pink and frilly Barbie garb. Neutrals. He was pretty sure it would be in some nice, refined neutral shade. She was so predictable sometimes though he would never complain about that. Good seed. Not so good seed. They worked that way.

A slow smile spread across his lips as he stood there for a moment in silence. Finally, "It's in the backseat." No, it wasn't like him to pack up and move. He had been in Lake Tahoe his entire life. He wasn't even sure he would fit in in a place like this but he was going to try. Besides, it had been far too long that they had been hours apart and she needed her little brother around to look out for her. At least that was how he rationalized it.

"So.. which one do you think will have the bigger stroke?" He joked regarding their parents. They didn't know yet either and he doubted either of them would be too thrilled.

Serena tried to keep a straight face and stand firm but she couldn't. "You're right, I could never do that." Back in the day she might have played dress up and all that but now? Clean, classic lines and neutrals colors all the way. Actually, it kind of reminded her of a hospital setting in a way and that was a place that she loved so it figured. Of course that didn't mean that she wouldn't go out and by some new bedding and switch it out while he was out sometime.

The smile on her own lips only grew when he admitted to having his stuff in the car and she could feel the excitement seep into her veins. They might end up getting on each other's nerves at some point, but it would be awesome to have him close by again. With Alex there, there was no doubt that this place could be considered home. And maybe, just maybe, she liked the idea of being able to keep an eye out on him too.

"Hmm tough call. Dad will freak out for a minute but I think mom will have the biggest issue. Especially since her baby boy just up and left her." Their father had taken it hard when Serena went off to school but she knew he would be able to understand his son going off to see the world. "Maybe you should let me call them and tell them that I convinced you stay with me for a while. I think it might go over easier." And so the saving each other from their parents thing started again.

"Okay let's get the rest of those boxes hauled up so that we can drop off the trailer and relax." Unpacking was definitely a chore and she wanted nothing more than to lounge around on her new couch and catch up with her brother.

The next hour or so was spent carrying boxes upstairs and when they were finished, Serena stayed upstairs to unpack while Alex ran the U-Haul back to turn it in. She was halfway through her third box when he reappeared and she couldn't help but grin. "I can definitely get used to this."

Alex gave a slight click of his tongue as he grinned. "See? So predictable." He laughed, knowing that that right there would get on her nerves just a little bit at least. Truth be told, he loved that about her. She was stable, constant, and sometimes a person needed someone like that in their life, someone that you knew what to expect from when everyone else in your life let you down or turned out to be something that you never expected.

There was no doubt in his mind that they would have their share of squabbling and that, after a few weeks of him being here, she might even wish that he would go back home, at least for a day or two, but this was the right decision. He knew it was. He was a person who prided himself on having good instincts and there was no doubt in his mind that this was where he should be right now.

"We can give it a couple of days. Then you can call them." He agreed. They would probably take it much easier from her, actually be glad that he would be there to look out for her, than they would if they knew it was premeditated by him.

He was all for getting the trailer unloaded and dropped off, mostly because he hated having it attached to the back of his Mia. It was an eyesore. So he worked rather quickly to get it done, tossing in bits and pieces of gossip about the people they knew back home during the elevator rides.

After dropping off the trailer, he found his way back to the apartment a bit more easily this time around then he had the first time. He took a moment outside to enjoy a cigarette before coming back up, taking the stairs instead of the elevator this time which left him a little bit winded and with a quick knock on the door, he let himself in, greeting the comment with a smile.

"Which one is it?" He pointed towards the doors. "I'm gonna go unpack." He didn't even offer to help her out because her idea of organization was a far cry from his own and she would probably only go back behind him and fix it regardless so it would be a waste of both of their time.

There might come a point where she wanted him out of her hair, but she'd never kick him out. Besides, she would practically be living at the hospital come Tuesday so it would be a good while before they were able to truly become sick of each other.

"Sounds like a plan." Mentally she decided that she would tell their father first and then possibly make him break the news to their mother. She would of course be hurt in the beginning but Serena was fairly positive that knowing that her two children were looking out for each other would help put her mind at ease. Then of course there was the excuse that they could come up to visit and have both of their kids in the same place. One family reunion, coming up!

Briefly she considered giving him crap for not wanting to help her but she knew that all of her organizing would drive him crazy and she did not want him trying to smoke out the bathroom window or something. "First door on the right."

Rather than jumping right up to follow, she finished the box she was working on and walked over to the fridge to grab a couple of bottles of beer. With two cold ones in hand, she followed after him and made herself comfortable on his bed once inside. "So why did you really leave?" she asked as she held out a bottle to him. "I know you can't stand to be apart from me but there's got to be something else going on."

There was a definite bit of relief in him when he opened the door and saw that the room actually looked pretty... okay. It wasn't his style, no, but it wasn't anything that he couldn't live with. It looked rather pristine for the moment, but once he had lived in it for a while, that would go away. Alex tossed his bags that had his clothes in them down on the bed and instead went for one of his boxes first. He hadn't brought all of his things with him, but most of what he knew he would want.

He had just started to pile the contents of the box, a random mix of magazines, small tools, movies and cds, onto the dresser when Serena came into the room and made herself at home on his bed. He tossed the empty box aside and then turned towards her, taking the beer with a shake of his head before he took a swig. "I asked you first." He remarked, plopping down onto the bed beside her. He didn't even bother to point out just yet that she shouldn't flatter herself so much.

Her nose wrinkled when he threw the ball right back into her court and she sighed. How exactly was she supposed to explain to him that her supposed to be dead fiance wasn't dead and on top of that, had no memory and was a vampire? No matter how many different ways she played it out in her head, it never ended well.

Crap.

Well, when in doubt...stretch the truth. "It's just that moving here is a big step after everything that has happened and it's hard trying to let go of the past." See? Totally not a lie! There were just a few important details that she was leaving out, that was all. And damn, she really needed to figure out a way for Alex to never run into their next door neighbor before she could figure out how to explain everything to him.

Double crap.

Hoping that her answer would suffice, she took a long pull of her beer and then threw the question back. "Okay, your turn." Please OH PLEASE let that have worked.

Alex listened to her speak. And though his gut instinct told him there was something more to it, another part of him thought that maybe he was just being paranoid and a little bit overprotective. She had been through a lot over the past couple of years and this, living her dream now, had to be a bit daunting.

He wrapped an arm around her and pulled her close to him, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "You're gonna do great, alright? So don't even worry about it. This is what you were meant to do, always. I don't think there's any possible way that you could screw it up. It's just not in your nature."

He took a long swig of his beer his own self then exhaled a sigh. "I dunno. I guess I just.. got tired of being stagnant, waiting around for something.." He paused for a moment. "Waiting around for life to start." That was the best way of wording it without getting too in depth. He was never the type to really be upfront about his feelings.

"Besides, I ran out of girls to date." He added with a shrug and a grin, taking another long swig of his beer. It was nice and cold and definitely hit the spot.

Serena thanked her lucky stars that Alex hadn't decided to press the issue though she did feel a little guilty for not sharing the complete truth as he pulled her into his side. "Thanks Lexers," she whispered as she leaned into his embrace. Just knowing that he was there to support her meant the world to her. Maybe she could get through this after all.

Her body settled against his as he spoke and she gave a thoughtful nod. It made sense. Her brother could be larger than life but Tahoe seemed to drag him down a bit. Not that she questioned his love for their home, but everyone needed to be able to leave the nest and stretch their wings.

"Ugh, how did I know that one was coming?" she smirked as she gave him a playful nudge with her shoulder. "Well you'll be happy to know that from what I've seen so far, there are plenty of attractive women here for you to corrupt. Just remember to be safe while doing it and we won't have to have the talk any time soon." Sadly she wasn't just talking about diseases and illegitimate children, but how do you warn someone of vampires that may or may not be in the city?

"Oh, I'm going to need your help with something some time this week. I need to buy a car." If anything could get her brother going, it was talking cars.

Alex sometimes pretended to hate the nicknames she had for him, but really he didn't mind. It was nice to have this again. He had missed it. There never seemed to be time for the whole bonding thing whenever he had visited her while she was away at school. "No need to thank me when I'm just being honest." He assured her, and gave her shoulders a little bit of a squeeze.

That was enough to make him laugh and roll his eyes. "Yes, Mother." He teased. "I think at twenty-five, I know what I'm doing." Of course if she had told him that he needed to be wary of vampires, he would probably laugh his ass off at first, then become incredibly worried that she had lost her fucking mind. He was nowhere near a believer in things of that nature. The supernatural wasn't something he thought about really, but if he did think about it, his thoughts would probably consist of the word "Bullshit" and not much else.

The car talk did pique his interest, of course. "Ah-ha! Now it's clear. It wasn't about your stuff, you just needed me here to keep you from getting a lemon." He laughed. "What kind you thinking about getting?" He asked her, hoping she would have a good answer to the question and not come up with the name of some crappy import or mom-mobile.

"Oh hey! I almost forgot." He said, moving to sit up, slipping out from the embrace, and going for his bag. "I brought you a present." It was poorly wrapped and nothing spectacular but he knew she had loved it as a child and that she didn't have it in her DVD collection the last time he checked. It was the 30th Anniversary Collector's Edition of The Princess Bride... a totally lame ass movie if you asked him, but he had wanted to bring her something and that was pretty much all he could think of and/or afford.

"So you would like me to believe anyway." His calling BS on the supernatural world would definitely have been expected and that was part of the reason she was having so much trouble trying to figure out how to broach the subject. Just saying "Hey guess what?" didn't seem like it would work and letting him find out the hard way was absolutely out of the question. Ugh, she really needed to figure all of this out and soon.

Serena smirked. "Well you have to be good for something, right?" she asked with a teasing smile. The sound of his next question caused evil thoughts to form in her head because she knew that with the right answer, she could get his head to explode. "I was thinking about getting a Kia Sedona actually. Lots of room, good safety rating..." Somehow she managed to keep a completely straight face before bursting into a fit of laughter. "Kidding! Kidding! Don't hurt me!" Quickly she prepared for any sort of retaliation on his part, her laughter never ceasing. "In all honesty, I was thinking about a 1955 Porsche Speedster. I just need to find one." That was where Alex came in because the guy had a gift when it came to tracking down the classics.

"Oh?" A brow quirked when he pulled out the present and she immediately tore into it once it was in her hands. "Princess Bride!! Lexers you remembered!" Serena pushed herself off the bed and pulled him into a big bear hug. "I love it!" She was going to have to pick up a case of fancy smancy oil or something for him later as a thank you. "So you're going to watch this with me later...right?" Heh.

Alex arched a brow to the comment, knowing she was teasing and playing right along with it. The next part, however, with how her face looked, he honestly thought for a moment that she had sold out. "A what?" He asked, his voice low, like he could hardly bring himself to say the words. When she finally cracked, he was NOT amused! "Shit, Serena, don't scare me like that! I was starting to think you were fucking adopted or something." He replied, then gave her a poke in the side just for good measure.

"Now that's more like it. I can probably help with that." He had contacts all over. It was not totally out of the question for him to drive a good 500 miles or more to look at a car. He'd hit the net later, check out the usual places, see what he could track down. Already the wheels in his head were turning which was pretty obvious by the expression on his face just then.

The hug was expected, as was the rest of it. He groaned. "I knew that was coming," he said with a sigh. "I have been mentally preparing myself for it the entire drive up here." He added with a grin. "Yeah, I'll watch it with you.... if you cook for me." She was pretty good in the kitchen, just like their mom was, but Alex, on the other hand, could probably burn water.

The poke she got was well worth being able to see that expression form on his face. If there was one thing that could make her brother lose his mind, it was talking about a Kia. Oh the rants she had listened to over that particular make of car. "Sorry, I couldn't help myself! Your face was priceless though." That would be one memory she would keep with her forever.

"Good because I would look cute in one I think." It also needed to be in an ice blue but she could always have whatever he found painted later if need be. "And once you find it I shall call it my Docmobile and all the kids will think that I am the coolest one of them all!" It might have been wishful thinking on her part but it was a super cute car either way.

It took a lot of willpower not to laugh and instead she managed to just grin like the damn Cheshire cat. "Hmm...deal." Serena wasn't the best cook ever, but she could hold her own in the kitchen. Years of living on her own had helped see to that fact though she had become pretty awesome at ordering takeout. "Any preference for what you want for dinner? And just so you know, I was shown an awesome Thai place last week. Oh! You'll have to meet Nox sometime soon. He was actually the one who showed it to me and told me about The Towers."

Alex shook his head. "Don't ever scare me like that again. You know that's not even funny." He was about to burst into another one of his rants about the more recently made cars with their plastic frames and their high class features that didn't do anything but complicate things and form barriers between the driver, the car, and the road, but the mention of the other car redeemed her and saved her from having to hear about it.

"The docmobile?" He questioned with a thinly arched brow then shoot his head. "Let me guess, you're going to paint it blue like your scrubs." He suggested with a smirk, never thinking that she might actually be considering it. Then again, he wouldn't be all that shocked.

"Uh huh.. I get what you're trying to do," He said with narrowing eyes. "Your Thai food is not going to tempt me. I wanna stay in. Though if they deliver.." He pondered it for a moment. "I won't complain as long as you're buying.

The mention of a guy's name caused him to arch a brow again. "Nox, huh?" Typical Alex, giving that overly protective younger brother look. "Yeah. I think I might oughta meet him."

"Yeah! I mean that sounds cool, right?" Or it did in her mind anyway. The smile from her face fell a bit when he brought up the color and she couldn't help but become a tad defensive. "What's wrong with blue? It would not only match my scrubs but my eyes too." She stuck her tongue out at him and folded her arms across her chest as she pretended to pout for a moment. Jerk.

Any pouting on her part was brushed away by his calling her out on the not wanting to cook tonight thing. Damn him, he was good. Really good. God she had missed him. "They do deliver and I just happened to grab their takeout menu the other night while I was there." She was still all gross from unpacking and her fridge was essentially empty at the moment so it really needed to be takeout or TV dinners.

"Oh don't start," she said with a roll of her eyes. "It's totally not like that. We're just friends. Besides, he's a cop so if you aren't nice I'm sure I could talk him into arresting you." A bright yet devilish grin was flashed for a moment before she put on her innocent face. "And it also might interest you to know that he has a sister who may or may not be hot since I haven't met her, but he's pretty cute so I don't see why she wouldn't be." Hopefully Alex wouldn't get all defensive an scare off one of three friends she had made so far.

Lex couldn't help but to laugh at her. "I'm right, aren't I? You want to paint it blue." He said with a smirky grin. He stuck his tongue right back out at her. "I never said that there was anything wrong with it. You're just.. predictable, that's all. Though you won't ever hear me complain about that." He was sure to add, not really wanting to hurt her feelings, just to tease her a little. God, did she even know how much he had missed having her around?

"Uh huh." He said, and then arched a brow slightly. "All you bought was bottled water and beer when you went to the grocery store, huh?" He called her on it. "I hope you at least got some microwave popcorn cause we can't have a movie without popcorn." He shrugged. "Thai sounds alright. Been a while since I had any."

"A cop, huh?" Alex was not big on the police. They were always quick to bust him and take him home to his father as a kid. And when he was older, well, they weren't so much just taking him home anymore. He arched a brow slightly, a slow grin forming upon his lips. "A sister, huh?" He asked. "Maybe you should invite them both over. Been a while since I had any of that either." He added with a grin, knowing he was going to get punched or slapped on that one.

Serena wanted nothing more than to wipe that smug look of his right off his face but she eventually caved and just wrinkled her nose at him instead. "Yeah, yeah, I'm so predictable. Boring old Serena, that's me." Her feelings weren't really hurt because how boring could she have been when she was engaged to a vampire? Not that he knew that but she did and that was all that mattered. Besides, she knew he was just messing around and didn't truly mean to hurt her feelings in anyway.

"Hey," she said as she looked offended. "I ordered pizza too. Oh, and I bought some more dog food." That was pretty good for someone who had spent the entire day moving furniture and making her apartment into a livable space! "Of course I have popcorn." What she left out however, was that it had been left over from her hotel room. Popcorn was the best snack ever late at night and she usually always had some with her wherever she was staying.

Serena nodded. "Well, a detective but close enough, right?" It was essentially the same thing except for the fact that he didn't wear a uniform. "And he's really nice. Earlier this week he took me to a Sonics game and yesterday, he and his partner Hale helped lug all of my new furniture up here. Oh, Hale lives here too. A couple floors up I think." Haha, cops everywhere! Poor Alex.

"Yes. Her name is...Hesper I think and from what I understand she's a bit of a wild child. You too should get along wonderfully." Her eyes rolled at his pervertedness and she gave him a playful swat. "Maybe I will. I'll give him a call later." Where had she thrown her phone after Alex had called her? Hmm, she needed to consider finding that later.

"That about covers it." He said, but left it alone in case he was bordering actually offending her. He had a tendancy to overstep from time to time but he didn't mean it, and she knew that. But that didn't keep her from being hurt or him from being upset that he had hurt her.

"Hmm." He said, and then he laughed. "I guess I get to do the grocery shopping while I'm here then, huh?" He would probably be the only one with the time to do it once she started working. And he didn't mind. He wasn't really that much better at it then she was. "Where is the ole mutt anyways?" He asked, noticing that the dog had yet to pounce him. He must have been sleeping.

"Hmm." He said in regards to all the things that she told him about Nox. It seemed that there was some definite interest there on his part. "They both live here?" He asked, then shook his head. "So it's been nice but uhm, guess I am going back to Tahoe." He teased, even starting to get up like he was going to go, but he laughed and sat back down instead.

"That is a horrible fucking name." He said, making a slight face. "So you haven't seen her yet? Dunno if she's hot? Usually girls with ugly names are pretty hot." He rationalized and then shrugged. "Call em up. I'm gonna hit the shower, cool?"

A smile spread from cheek to cheek at the mention of doing the shopping for her. "I would love you forever if you did!" So maybe she would love him forever anyway, but that was beside the point. "I'll leave some money on the counter for you before I run off tomorrow." Officially she didn't start until Tuesday but there was still some last minute paperwork to do and she wanted to get her new office all situated before they threw everything at her. "Um, I don't know actually. He's probably hiding in my room. Poor guy has had a rough week."

"Oh get back here," she said with a laugh. "I'm sure I could convince them not to arrest you, even if you do deserve it." Though Nox seemed pretty straight laced so who knows if she would actually be able to do that or not. Hopefully it wouldn't ever come to that.

Serena pressed her lips together and tried not to laugh but she couldn't help it. "It really is." She hated to make fun of anyone but Hesper? That was just not a good name. "Nope, haven't met her but I'll keep my fingers crossed for you." A nod was given to the mention of a shower and she stood up to go find her phone. "There are fresh towels in the cabinet in the bathroom."

When she finally found her cell phone, she noticed that she had missed a call and quickly listened to the voicemail message. Seemed like Nox had been on the same wave length so she called him back. Unfortunately she got his voicemail so it was her turn to leave a message. "Hey it's Serena. Sorry I missed your call, I couldn't find my phone. Anyway, we'd love to do dinner so call me back and let me know when. Bye." A few minutes later her phone beeped with a text message and it appeared that Nox had been called into work. After a quick reply back saying that they could do it another time, she hunted down the Thai takeout menu and ordered some food.

"Nox got called into work tonight so I ordered us some food," she called down the hall once she heard Alex come out of the bathroom. "So it looks like you're stuck with me tonight."

"you might want to leave me a list with it." He suggested, knowing his own tendency to get wayyy off topic in the grocery store. If she left it all up to him, he would come home with nothing but beer and beef jerky. "Cause of the move and all?" He asked regarding the dog. "I'll have to pick him up some ham bones tomorrow." He suggested, kind of as a reward for doing so well and being a really well behaved dog, from what Alex could tell.

"Hey, just because I drive fast that doesn't mean that I'm a bad person." He said in his defense with a grin. "I'll just have to not get caught, I guess. Or if I do, just have you bat your lashes at him a few times and get me out." He smirked. There had to be some benefits to having an attractive older sister.

"Well.. if she's really ugly, I can just do her from behind." He retorted with a smirk, bracing himself for the slap that he knew was coming again. "Kidding!!" He said quickly, laughing at the shocked look on her face. "I'll be out in a few." He said, retreating to the bathroom before he made her any more angry with him.

The shower was really nice. The water pressure in the building was pretty great. The pressure at his place back in Tahoe was actually rather shitty and you usually ran out of hot water after about five minutes or so. So for a change, he actually took a long shower, enjoyed it thoroughly, and felt about ten years younger when he got out.

He was still in the process of drying his hair when he heard his sister call to him from the other room. He hadn't put on clothes yet, aside from his boxers, still trying to decide what to wear for company, but with the recent announcement, he grabbed a pair of pajama pants and tugged them on, leaving off his shirt, dirty towel tossed in the bathroom floor haphazardly along with his clothes. He was a bit of a slob.

"I guess it could be worse." He said as he walked out into the front room. "Oh yeah... we're watching The Princess Bride. It is worse." He said with a grin, then whistled for Tony.

Yeah beer and beef jerky while tasty, didn't need to make up the entirety of their diets. "One list, got it." Though he could buy his "man staples" because who was she to deny him a healthy beer gut and some clogged arteries? "I think so. The trip to New York and back this week with a whole two days in between probably didn't help matters either." Tony was definitely a seasoned traveler at this point.

"You're right, driving fast has nothing to do with it. You're being an ass makes you a bad person." Totally kidding of course. In her eyes, her brother was as good as they came. "Oh yeah, let me jump right on the eyelash batting. Knowing you, I'd probably have to get naked to get you out of trouble." Ha, take that nice sisterly image!

At his comment, her eyes went wide and for a half second she considered slugging him but reached for a pillow and slapped him upside the head instead. "Knock it off or I'll leave you here with Tony!" Alex could be so crude sometimes, really now.

The sight of her brother in his pjs reminded her of being at home again and she couldn't help but smile. "Oh shut up," she grinned. "The Princess Bride is a classic. I could be making you watch My Best Friend's Wedding or something instead." Her chick flicks were packed away in one box somewhere and she bet she could find it. "Okay, the food should be here in about twenty minutes and I left the cash on the counter. Will you listen for the door while I grab a shower?" No need to be all stinky while they were snuggling on the couch together.

At the sound of the whistle, Tony appeared and she gave him a quick pat on the head as she passed by. "Make sure he stays out of trouble," she told the dog before disappearing down the hall.

The shower was nice and hot and did wonders for the kinks in her back that had been forming with all of the heavy lifting. Once she was all clean and smelling like flowers, she got out, dried off, combed her hair and pulled on some pjs of her own. "Mmm...smells like Thai food," she grinned as she padded back out into the living room.

The mere mention of her getting naked was enough to make him shudder visibly. "Don't even go there." He said. That was one thing he would never do, try to pawn his sister off on someone to get himself out of hot water. No fucking way. And the thought of any man seeing her naked and touching her and... it was enough to make his blood boil. In his mind, no one would ever be good enough for his sister.

It always made for a good laugh to gross her out and he knew exactly what to say to do it. He laughed loudly as he grinned and walked off. "You don't even have a dog house so I don't see what would be so bad about that."

This whole day had been a nice one, very reminiscent of old times. It had been forever since they had had a nice movie night at home with some take out and some popcorn, curled up non the couch. "No thanks." He remarked, moving into the living room to flop down on the couch and make himself at home. "Sure thing."

The whole time she was in the shower, Tony sat in the living room with Alex, looking at him like he really was keeping an eye on him. "You're a weird dog, ya know that?" He asked and shook his head.

When the doorbell rang, he moved to answer the door, giving the guy the cash that Serena had left for the food on the counter. He was just searching for some plates when Serena came out of the bedroom. "Have you not unpacked the dishes?" He asked, and then shrugged as he grabbed the bag. "There's forks in the bag. Guess we can just eat out of the carton." He headed into the living room to meet here there.

Serena had always known that her brother felt protective over her, but if she had ever truly known the extent, she would have questioned how Kaden had ever passed in the first place. She also would have questioned if she would ever be able to get him in good with her brother again. Surely Alex would be understanding once everything was explained to him, right? Well, maybe the vampire thing wouldn't go over well but she could try.

"Oh my God! Dishes!" Her palm came up to slap her forehead. "I knew I forgot to buy something!" How could she have forgotten dishes? Back in New Haven her roommates had taken care of that issue and then she had the stuff at Kaden's which had been slim so she left it and she hadn't needed any at home and damn. "I'll go out and take care of that tomorrow." Thank you Thai place for providing the plastic utensils!

While Alex got settled on the couch, Serena grabbed another couple of beers and the DVD. The movie was slipped into the DVD player which thankfully had been set up the day before. Once it was all set and ready to go, she hopped onto the couch and reached for one of the containers after passing off a beer. "Hope you're ready for this!" she teased as the title screen came up and the movie began to play.

Things were not going to go well at all when he found out that Kaden was still alive. And as far as the whole vampire thing went, there would taking some serious seeing to believe that shit. And even then, it was slightly doubtful that he would. He was very protective of Serena. And the only saving grace that Kaden had was that he made her happy, kept her safe, and that had made him adequate in Alex's book.

He laughed as she discovered that she had forgotten to buy dishes. "Yet another good reason for take out." He remarked, not offering to buy the dishes for her as he would never pick out something even remotely accommodating to her taste.

"As ready as I will ever be," He said with a grin as he took the beer from her and had a swig. He too grabbed a carton, ate some of whatever was inside of it, then offered her a trade off. His eyes focused on the screen and.. well admittedly, this wasn't the worse chick flick in the world. At least it had a little bit of action. And in spite of all his protests, he found himself enjoying it, even laughing quite heartily a time or two.

Serena really couldn't believe that she had forgotten to buy dinner but at the same time it was understandable. With all of her running around and the amount of takeout she had consumed over the past week, it wasn't like she had had any time to think about cooking or items to cook with. Oh well, just another excuse to go out shopping.

By the time the credits rolled, Serena was snuggled up in the curve of his side and grinning. "Were those laughs I heard?" she teased as she gave him a playful pat on the leg. "Because I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you actually enjoyed yourself." Blasphemy she knew, but she was also right.

"I don't know about you, but I'm pretty tired. You ready to call it a night?" Slowly she pushed herself off of the couch and gave her body a quick stretch before moving to pick up their trash. Granted it wasn't terribly late, but after all of the moving and traveling and emotional roller coaster...well, she was in desperate need of some sleep.

Alex had one arm draped over the couch arm and the other draped over the back of the couch with Serena curled up at his side when the movie ended. It felt like home again, or already, whatever the case may be. He arched a brow slightly when she spoke and then he just sort of laughed as he rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah. It wasn't as horrible as I remember it being." He could give her that much. There were some parts that were pretty funny. It was just as much comedy as it was romance and he was a huge comedy fan.

He inhaled and then exhaled a deep breath upon the question before answering with a nod. "That was a long fuckin drive." He added, sitting up straight and rolling his back to crack it once she had moved to stand. He gathered up the remaining food that wasn't trash and would surely become tomorrow's lunch since there wasn't much else to eat.

He followed Serena into the kitchen to put the leftovers in the fridge, waiting on her to finish putting the trash in the trashcan before he gathered her up in a tight hug accompanied with a kiss on the forehead. "Love you, Sis," He said, and then let her go. "Sleep sweet." A hand reached down to scratch his ass as he turned to head for his bedroom and a good night's rest.
