Week Four: Saturday
Where: The Towers
When: Lateish night
Who: Serena and Kaden

It had been one busy week. After the basketball game with Nox on Tuesday, Serena had hopped a flight back home and got busy packing her life up. Wednesday and Thursday were spent packing up what stuff she still had out there and rather than having it go by moving company, she just shipped it on a two day back to her hotel room. There wasn’t much left after the stuff she could take in her luggage so why not, right? Any furniture in Kaden’s apartment was sold or given away and Ryan was sweet enough to take any bigger pieces of music equipment and hold onto it until she could talk to Kaden again and see if he wanted or not. Other than that it was mostly just trinkets and paperwork, though the contents of Kaden’s old office were a lot less after she cleaned it out a few months prior.

Once everything was packed up and shipped off, she said goodbye to her friends and hopped another flight back late Thursday night. Poor Tony was a trooper through it all and she could tell that he knew that things were about to change. Only a few hours of Friday morning were dedicated to sleep and once she had gotten some food into her, she was off and running. The rest of that day was spent picking out new furniture and arranging for it to be delivered or picked up but the newest friends in her life. Then of course there was arranging for her brother to drive up the rest of her stuff from Tahoe and she was ecstatic about that! It had been far too long since she had seen him and hopefully he would be able to stay for a few days.

This morning consisted of picking out new bedding and linens and going to the store for beer and bottled water. If Hale and Nox were going to give up their afternoon helping her, she was going to make sure they were well hydrated and fed. So that meant pizza was ordered ahead of time as well. Serena was a planner, and definitely thorough if nothing else! So that was her afternoon and once the guys had left, it was back to the hotel to grab Tony and bring him to their new home.

Since taking a cab back and forth was not at all practical, Serena had arranged for a rental car earlier that morning and got busy shoving the boxes from New York in the back. She really needed to just buy her own car but that was something she was going to save for when Alex was in town. Tony was with the first trip over and she couldn’t help but notice something was off when she brought him upstairs. For some reason he kept trying to get into the apartment next door and she literally ended up dragging inside the right one. He was a strange one sometimes, but she was too busy and preoccupied with everything to give it too much thought.

It was fairly late when the last trip over was made and unfortunately she was struggling with one of the heavier boxes as she made her way up the sidewalk. Packing most of her books in the same box probably wasn’t the smartest thing to do but she overestimated her own strength and ended up sending the box tumbling to the ground before she ever made it up the stairs. “Crap.”

Kaden was a bit too slow to realize what was about to go down to reach Serena in time to catch the toppling box before it hit the pavement. Only a few books suffered, scattering across the sidewalk. "Looks dangerous," he quipped with a hesitant smile, already stooping to gather up the various texts littering the walkway. He did so carefully, not wanting to scratch covers or cause damage to what might mean the world to her. He wasn't sure if his presence was something she enjoyed or dreaded and so the duration of it hinged on that initial reaction to his appearance - should she flinch, he'd simply gather her books and carry the box inside for her before running off.

Tucking each one back into the now upturned box, Kaden stood with it cradled against his chest. "Where are these heading?" he nodded towards the cargo he now held. He was impressed she'd lugged it as far as she had - the thing was heavy as hell! - it was only the gentlemanly thing to do to offer to heft it inside for her. Besides, he figured that given all the stress (not to mention heartache) he was likely causing her, the least he could was take care of her heavy-lifting.

"I didn't expect to run into you...here," he admitted after a moment, wanting to break whatever odd tension was blooming between them. His goal in life, regardless of how it looked, was not to make her life hell...it just seemed that he couldn't help it, his very existence seemed to hurt her. Thinking about it rationally he could understand, but it was with that sort of third-person detachedness of someone who has never experienced it...more empathy than anything else. Of course he had experienced their shared past, he just couldn't remember it...Serena alone was in charge of that past now.

Slender fingers tangled in her golden hair as she stared at the box and before she knew it, someone was walking up and picking up her mess. Well, not someone, him. "Yeah, kind of," she replied with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes but was still warm and genuine. "Guess I should have balanced the weight out better." A sheepish smile was sent his way and she could feel her heart pounding in her chest. The past week since their first encounter had been spent preparing herself mentally for seeing him again and this time it didn't hurt quite so bad. Not to say that it didn't hurt, but she was definitely doing better dealing with it and being okay. See? She could do this!

"Inside actually. Third floor." Serena nodded toward the building and grinned despite herself. He looked really good standing there holding her books. "A couple of friends recommended The Towers earlier in the week and here I am." A shrug caused her shoulders to rise and fall as she chewed on her lower lip. "I don't suppose I could talk you into carrying that up for me, could I?" The last thing she wanted to do was put him out of keep him from wherever he was going.

The tension between them was definitely there but maybe not so tense as it was awkward. Serena really was trying here and she hoped that it was showing through at least a little. "I was actually going to call you early next week. I brought some of your stuff back with me from New York and thought you might like to have it." There was a slight pause before she spoke again. "I mean you don't have to take it tonight of course we can arrange another time if you are busy or live far or something." Okay now she was rambling but she was still trying!

Kaden chuckled at what appeared at first to be his own little joke, a wide smile spreading over his lips. "Actually, I live pretty close," he nodded towards the property before them, "right there....third floor, actually. So really, it's fate that I should carry your books upstairs, right? Besides I'm convinced you have an entire encyclopedia set in this thing, it's liable to take you right down the stairs with it." He didn't want to dwell for a moment on how uncomfortable it might be for her to be living so close to him.

"The Towers is a great place....quite, no nosy neighbors, clean, pretty much an ideal building...not that I remember where I lived in the past," he joked, "but it's nice enough." Tucking her box under one arm, Kaden lead the way up the steps to hold the main door open for her. "I'd love to see what you brought back, actually. I don't really have anything from before...obviously, it'd be nice to see what type of stuff I used to own. I won't pester you by asking you to tell me about each and everything. Knowing me, it's probably a mess anyway. I mean, was I a mess then? Cause I am now." How strange was it to ask another person what you were like? Odd, but it was all Kaden had. Serena was the only person that could tell him if these personality traits of his were true or simply ones he'd invented to feel like a person again.

"Third floor....which one?" he inquired once they were inside the elevator, box resting against his chest. It was strange enough to have her on his floor already, probably moreso for her than him, at least he could give her fair warning of just how close he'd be.

Serena's eyes went wide and she had to blink a few times. "Really? Maybe it is fate that you get to lug them up," she added quickly in an attempt to recover from her initial shock. Oh God, she was going to be living on the same floor as he was? That was okay, she could handle that. Maybe the close proximity would help him remember? It was probably wishful thinking on her part but she needed to keep positive! "And for the record, my encyclopedia set is still in the car. Those are just some of my textbooks from med school."

"That seems to be the general consensus." Nox, Hale and Ally had all said the same things. "The building actually reminds me of the place w-you had in New York. It wasn't quite as big, but it was similar." Her nerves were causing her stomach to flip and flop and she felt some relief when seemed interested in his old belongings. "I wouldn't mind explaining most of it, I'd just need some breaks in between." See? Again with the trying!

When Kaden mentioned being messy, she couldn't help but burst into laughter. "It's good to see that some things never change," she grinned as she stepped into the lobby. "Your office was the one thing that I was not allowed to touch and it was a disaster area! It took me days to clean it out after...well, what's left is much more organized anyway so that should help you when you go through it." There was a pang in her chest but she did her best to ignore it as they moved into the elevator.

"E," she answered as she pressed the button for the third floor. "I needed a two bedroom because Tony likes his space." The doors parted a moment later and she led the way to her door. Since she had been running up and down all night, the door was unlocked and there was no need for keys as she pushed it open. "You can go ahead and put that anywhere. Sorry it's such a mess, I still have a lot of stuff that needs to be put away." Mess was a giant understatement because there were only a dozen of so boxes around and the rest was neat and tidy.

A loud "woof" sounded just as she closed the door behind him and Tony came bolting around the corner faster than she had seen him move in a long time. "Oh God watch out!" she called as the dog jumped up and nearly took poor Kaden to the floor. Silly guy was happy to see him or something.

Lugging her books upstairs was, again, the least that he could do given the current situation they found themselves in. "I'd love to hear about the stuff....I mean, whenever you've got time, no pressure or anything." He was dying from curiosity, but that didn't mean that he got to toss it on her. As much as he wanted to know who he'd been in the past, he was trying to remember that Serena still knew what they'd once meant to each other even if he didn't. It was hard, what with that nagging little voice at the back of his head, but he was determined to try and keep her best interests at heart.

"Always been messy then, huh? Well, nice to know I didn't make that one up," he chuckled, leaning back against the wall of the elevator as the car lifted, heading towards their third floor destination. The doors dinged and delievered them to the level which held both of their apartments. Fate must have been exceptionally cruel to move her in right next to him...and she wasn't even aware yet. "E?" he offered a hand despite the box he held, "Nice to meet you neighbor." Right, smooth way to deliver the big news, right? Oh well, he sucked at these kind of things, better just to put it out there now than worry about how to tell her.

Kade follwed her inside her new place, set the box of books out of the way on the floor only seconds before Tony all but took a flying leap at him. Given that he was crouched, the bulldog knocked him onto his ass quite easily. "I take it...this guy knows me?" he chuckled, attempting to keep the dog from landing too many slobbery kisses on his face. Whatever their past relationship, Tony seemed quite thrilled to see Kaden again.

"Of course, whatever I can do to help." Serena really did feel for him and hated how selfish she had acted earlier. Yes, it did hurt to remember everything and get nothing back from him when she looked into his eyes, but at the same time he remembered nothing. Which was worse? To be honest, she didn't know.

Serena smiled. "To be honest I don't know how you functioned on a daily basis. It was amazing you could even find your keys before I put up a hook next to the door." Now training him to use it took a while but eventually it had stuck. "Neighbor?" Out of all of the vacant apartments there were in this place was he seriously trying to tell her that she had picked the one right next door to him? Fate was a cruel mistress. She was going to have to take up yoga or something to help her relax and not want to go over to see him everyday. Yeah, this was going to be hard.

Her hands covered her mouth as Tony knocked Kaden over and she fought back a laugh. The dog seemed determined to show his former owner just how badly he had missed him. It dawned on her then that he must have been trying to get into Kaden's apartment when she had brought him upstairs. Poor guy must have been so confused. "He was yours," she answered as she shifted her gaze away for a moment so that she could collect herself. The sight of him with Tony broke her heart because it was so familiar. "You found him in the alley behind your apartment building and it was love at first sight."

Blue eyes watched as the bulldog jumped around like a little puppy. "You know we might have to work out some sort of joint custody arrangement because I don't think he's going to let you leave him again."

He appreciate her offer to help more than she could know. He couldn't honestly understand what it took out of her to offer to do so, let alone actually go through it, but he could guess, could wildly assume how painful it must have been - the fact that she was willing to do it anyway truly meant something to him. After all, he truly was dying for even the tiniest tidbit of information about everything pertaining to his previous life and, from the sound of it, she'd played a very big role in that existance. "I'm going to owe you hugely in no time for all of this," he half-joked, cracking a warm smile. No but really, he was so going to owe her.

Tony all but wiped the poor guy out, nearly laid him flat and yet all he could think to was laugh. The pup was clearly happy to see him, bouncing his bulk of a frame around with fervered energy, "Mine, huh?" Kaden reached out to scratch behind Tony's ear in a way that was more instinct than memory, the dog panting happily at the long-absent touch. "What's his name?" his gaze flickered to Serena, a reminder of just how much he didn't remember. After all, who would ever forget Tony? Geesh.

"Guess we could always cut a hole in the wall, let him doggie-door himeself back and forth," he kidded, moving to stand though it didn't seem that Tony was too eager to let him up just yet. Not one prone to barking, the pooch did muster a hoarse 'ruff' or to, demanding the return of Kade's attention. He grinned, leaning down with a chuckle to pat the little guy on the head again, "I'm just next door, you guys can stop by whenever you'd like. I imagine you know what hours I keep." And yes, he had extended that offer to both of them. Serena had clearly been very important to him in the past, he wanted to know why.

Maybe, just maybe, she could be important to him again.

"Tony. You named him after a pizza box." A laugh parted her lips as she moved past them to search for a box. "I guess he had pulled a Tony's Pizza box out of the garbage and was eating what was left when you found him." That had been before Serena had met them but she could picture it almost as if she had been there herself. "That big boy definitely had you wrapped around his paw before I ever came into the picture. Fortunately for you, we learned how to share."

Serena moved from box to box and chuckled at the doggie door idea. "Something tells me that the management wouldn't sign off on that." Though she did like the idea and she knew that Tony would appreciate it. She paused in her search as his offer was extended and smiled despite the ache in her heart. "Careful, you might not be able to get rid of us." It was her attempt at keeping things light but part of her hoped that there wouldn't be a need to get rid of her or Tony.

After a deep breath, she returned to her search and let out an "ah-ha" when she finally found the box she was looking for. It was picked up and carried over to where Kaden was on the floor, and she set it down next to him before taking a seat. "Unfortunately I didn't have time to separate the pictures so they're all mixed up, but you can at least borrow them for a while." Inside there were a few albums and a dozens of prints that still needed to be put into albums. The pictures ranged from ones of Tony to the old band and of course there were a bunch of he and Serena.

"I still have some beer in the cooler, would you like one?" Her new fridge still needed to cool down but she had picked up a small ice chest to keep the drinks cold.

"A pizza box?" a dark brow lofted in question, but thankfully the anecdote followed up. That explained it all. "So I was a real creative guy, is what you're telling me?" he joked with a laugh, giving Tony one last little scratch before he stood to give Serena and those boxes of stuff his full attention.

"Probably not, I assume management isn't too keen on cutting holes in walls. At least it isn't too far of a walk to my place." He had a point there, right? It was what....three feet? Surely she and Tony could manage that...in fact, he was rather looking forward to having a little bit of company around the place. And he really couldn't foresee any reason why he'd want to get rid of them, he was sure he'd enjoy their company.

He moved to take a seat on the floor - mainly to keep Tony happy and under control - while Serena went in search of that elusive box of his. After a moment or two it seemed to turn up and she carried it over to where he sat, setting it before him. She joined him a moment later, though Kade was already reaching in to see what awaited him. "I assume there's a story behind each one of these," he held up a stack of pictures before handing them over to her so she could explain if the mood struck her.

"Beer sounds good, I can grab it," he pushed himself off of the floor and moved for the cooler in the corner of the room. He lifted the lid and grabbed two cold ones, twisting off the caps as he headed back to join her again. Handing one over to Serena, Kaden returned to his recently vacated position, ready to learn whatever there was to know about the contents of that box.

"Basically. Although for a musician I would have expected something better." She was teasing of course, as made apparent by the teasing tone in her voice. It was actually cute that he had named him after the pizza box. "Tony" just seemed fitting for the not so little guy.

Serena's nose wrinkled as she glanced back to the door. "I don't know, I'd hate to break a sweat on my way over." Joking was good! It helped keep things light between them and that was definitely needed if she was going to get through this. Anything to keep her mind off of the ache in her chest. The last thing she needed was to breakdown in front of him again.

"You guess right. Though I can't tell you all of the ones that involve Ryan humping random inanimate objects. You would have to ask him." While Serena had heard many of the stories, there were still a lot that she still hadn't experienced. "Ryan was your best friend back in New York," she explained as she dug through the box and pulled out a picture with him in it. "He's also a vampire."

The picture was traded for the beer and she watched Kaden's face as he looked down at the photo. "He's the only one who knows that you're still alive and it took some convincing on my part to keep him from flying out here to kick your ass." A grin was offered to take away any discomfort on Kaden's part. "He was pissed when he thought you ditched the band to get away from...well, none of that matters. I told him what happened and when you're ready, he'll come out."

Fate had definitely named Tony more than Kaden ever had. The set up really had been too perfect - the sight of him delving into a pizza box to feed himself had demanded a name that would forever remind Kaden of just how he'd found the little guy. Ok, maybe not forever remind him, but it had for quite awhile. Maybe, in time, it would again.

"Humping inantimate objects?" he reached for the photo of Ryan, taking in the unfamiliar face that stared back at him. "I'm not sure I even want to know." It was a joked, an attempt to lighten the mood that was beginning to set in on his part. "How many people knew what I was back in New York?" Not many knew here, but maybe he'd been more open back then; now his suspicions were always on high alert, never sure who was being honest and who might be using his memory loss against him.

His eyes flickered over the photo, studying every detail with such intensity...as if he was willing himself to remember, trying to force the memories back to the forefront of his mind. "It's weird," he admitted after a moment, his tone a little quieter, more introspective as he continued to study the photo, "to hear you telling me about this life that used to be mine.....it sounds pretty good, actually and I can't remember a single moment of it." He shook his head, raising his beer to his lips before things got too heavy right off the back. "He still want to see me after....everything? Or is he looking to kill me too?" he teased her with a light smile, referencing that first night he'd seen her, quite sure that she was going to lay him out.

Serena smirked and nodded as she dug through the box and found a couple of Ryan getting friendly with light poles and random statues. "You really don't, trust me." Though really, Serena had no idea why Ryan did half of the stuff he did most days. Probably just because he could. "He's just an eternal five year old, or acts it anyway." Keeping the mood light was definitely the best course of action in her opinion. "Hmm? Not many. Just the other guys in your band and me. That took a while though, the telling me part. It took almost a year before you finally told me, though I pretty much already knew by that point so it wasn't a huge surprise."

The proposal came short after the confession but she chose to leave that part out. It was hard enough to keep herself from wearing her engagement ring while knowing he was still alive and hadn't just left her. Maybe, hopefully, someday she'd be able to wear it again.

Her heart hurt for him as he struggled to remember and before she could stop herself, she reached over and touched his leg. "It was really good and hopefully one day you'll remember it." The plan was to hang onto whatever hope she was able and continue to pray for the day that it all came back to him. "I don't know about the killing you part, but he might punch you. Finding a new lead singer wasn't exactly easy." She removed her hand and turned her attention back to her beer. "And for the record I didn't want you dead, just severely beaten." A wink was sent his way as she took a long pull from the glass bottle. Yeah, she may have been out for blood that night but it was all in the past now. Heh.

"Let's see, what else..." Her hands slipped back into the box as she sifted through the pictures. "Here's one of us before one of your gigs and here's Ryan making out with some girl and...oh, this one was funny. Ryan had bet you twenty bucks that you couldn't beat him in downing a bottle of tequila. So you took the bet and feigned chugging it while Ryan actually did and by the time he was done, he was running to the bathroom to throw up while you sat back and laughed. This is a shot of the aftermath." Ryan had already been on his way to be nice and toasted (hence the bet) and suffered for his ill judgement for a while. It had been good times.

Kaden watched her as she sifted through the box, pulling out any number of various pictures to show him, going through any little anecdotes that might have been attached to that moment forever captured on film. It was still a bit like reading a book, having things laid out before you to live through via some strange third party scenario. He couldn't remember being there, felt no emotional connection to this life that had once been such a part of him, to these people that had once been the backbone of his existence. Serena might not have hated him for what he'd gone and done, but he was beginning to see how easily self-hatred could bloom. After all, he had no one to blame for his lack of memories but himself.

He nodded at her reassurance that he might one day remember the past he'd shared with she and Ryan. "Yeah, here's to hoping," he managed a slight smile. This whole ghost of vampire's past was getting to him just a bit - how could it not? "Sounds as if I'm going to have to ask everyone who wants to kick my ass to start forming a line," he quipped, that grin lightening up just a bit. Kaden was never one to stay down for long. He lifted his beer to his lips, taking a long swallow to buy him time in their conversation - after all, the alcohol wasn't going to have any effect on him.

The pictures of he and Serena together were a bit more telling. He might not remember being in love with her, but anyone could have seen the affection between the two in those photos - it was in their eyes when the pair looked at each other, in the way he could see his hand placed at the small of her back or how he was watching her in photos from the background. "This is all so....strange," he admitted after a moment, though he seemed in better spirits about it than he had earlier.

A soft chuckle parted her lips and she tried not to stare as she looked at him. "I don't think it would be all that long. Maybe just the other guys in the band and a couple of groupies who couldn't get into your pants, but that's about it." Serena couldn't remember a time that she tried so hard to just keep things as normal as light and possible. Usually it took no effort on her part, she always tended to get along with people, but here with him now she found herself struggling. It was hard knowing that the man you were head over heels in love with really had no idea who you were.

"Yeah..." she replied with a nod. "I don't know which of us has it easier in this situation. Me because I remember or you because you don't." She knew what he was missing while he could only imagine what he had lost. "I guess it's a pretty crappy deal either way." They were both suffering for what had happened, in that there wasn't any doubt.

"But on the brighter side, at least we aren't married so it's not like you have to worry about coming home to a stranger." Serena had been trying to be funny but it just left her with a bitter taste in her mouth instead. "That wasn't nearly as funny as I had intended." The beer she had been holding was brought to her lips and the contents finished off in a few gulps. Take foot and insert into mouth.

"Um I also have a box with a bunch of your paperwork in it. Random notes and lyrics scribbled down onto napkins, stuff like that. Oh, and books of matches. You had a thing for collecting them."

"Guess some things really do never change," he paused to finish off what little beer was left in his bottle, "still not a fan of groupies." He might have been joking about it, though it was true, but each time he learned that one of his personality traits was truly his and not something he'd convinced himself was natural for him was like recovering a tiny shred of what had been taken away. Kaden was making a special effort to file away every little tidbit that Serena confirmed for him, afraid he'd forget what had now been confirmed.

It truly was tough to tell who had it worse - perhaps there was no competition, it was a lose-lose situation either way. Memories or the lack thereof...who could really say which was worse?

Right....not being married. Ok, so that hadn't sent things straight into awkward zone there pretty easily. "S'ok, I think I'm still the king of asses in this whole scenario," he joked the lighten things up as quickly as he could, chuckling lightly as Tony plodded over to plant himself in Kaden's lap pretty securely. He scratched the pooch behind one ear, his eyes content to take in the rest of the stack of pictures Serena was flipping through, perking up again once she mentioned the other box of his stuff she'd saved.

"That type of stuff tends to help more than anything else, from what I've heard...with memory loss, I mean. Apparently reading things you actually wrote can help you remember better than a third person story...something about establishing an emotional connection," Kaden shrugged lightly, though he'd obviously been researching his condition....once he'd become aware of it of course. "I'd like to see it...maybe I can learn something." The whole match book bit drew a raised brow, "A vampire collecting match books? Oh, the irony."

There was no describing just how good it was to hear that he wasn't into groupies. It was like some dark cloud had been lifted off of her heart and a warm wave of relief replaced it. "That is definitely good to know." There was only one other question that she needed answered to fully put her mind at ease but part of her didn't want to know the answer and another part was afraid to ask.

Silently she thanked him for relieving the tension. "Can't argue with you there," she replied in a teasing tone. "Though in Tony's eyes you can do no wrong." As if on cue, the dog looked up at her for a moment and then licked Kaden's hand. "Traitor."

"Wow, someone's been doing his homework." She wasn't an expert when it came to memory loss but she had gone to medical school and did know a thing or two about it. That and she had spent more than a few hours looking through her text books and gathering information. "Hold on and let me grab it."

She stood and moved to the other side of the room, quickly looking through the stack of boxes before finding it. Serena chuckled at the irony comment as she carried the box back over to him. "I asked you about it once and you said it was more out of habit than anything." The large cardboard square was set down in front of him and she retook her place on the floor.

"Knock yourself out."

Groupies seemed to just be something he was bound to never be into. They just didn't do anything for him - maybe it was that stench of desperation that seemed to cling to them. It made them stand out in a crowd...well that and the stereotypical mini-skirts. He preferred a bit of a challenge and, judging by what he was seeing of Serena, she'd been one. Screw groupies, he hadn't even dated in the year or so since he'd last seen her. His time was usually too taken up with shows, checking out local bands or researching whatever he could find about his condition. That curiosity of not knowing was bound to drive anyone crazy, it seemed only natural to try and learn whatever there was to be learned to speed things up.

"I've read a book or two.....or twelve at this point," he joked with a slight smile, helping Tony settle into his lap as Serena moved to retrieve that second box. She set it before him and he dug in straight away, sifting through the little scraps of paper....notes and songs in progress that he'd been putting together before everything had gone down.

"Some of these aren't half bad," he admitted after a moment or two. It was hard to remember that they were his lyrics he was reading over and not some random person's. There was a ton of matchbooks scattered amongst the bottom, mixing in with the papers he sifted through. A few more photos has landed in there as well, ones that must have been his favorites. One looked to be he and Serena at a club, both dressed up and bathed in neon lights, a song in progress scribbled against the back in his scratchy handwriting. "I think this one I might actually be able to finish..." he mused, glancing over it once more.

It was good to know that he had at least been trying to fix his situation rather than just living with it. But then again, Kaden had never been one to just sit back and do nothing. That was just one of the many things she admired about him. His determination to see something through was not only nobel, but rather sexy in its own right.

"I have some of your old CDs packed away too somewhere. When I find them, I'll drop them off and you can see how many of those lyrics actually got laid down on a track." Hearing his own voice singing songs he didn't remember would probably be a little unsetting too but maybe it would also help. Serena was willing to dig up just about anything if it meant bringing him one step closer to coming back to her.

The picture of the two of them in the club made her smile and she tried not to lean in too far as he read the back. "Really?" The last she remembered he had been frustrated with not knowing where he should take it in the end. "Well I'd like to hear it when you do. If you wouldn't mind of course." Just because he had shared all of his songs with her in the past didn't mean he would be comfortable doing it now.

"Okay there's just something I have to ask and I realize that I am probably completely out line here but..." A deep breath was taken as she glanced down at her hands for a fraction of a second before meeting his gaze. "Are you...seeing anyone?"

"Yeah? That'd be great," his smile was a bit more genuine this time, but then they were discussing music so maybe that was why. There was no arguing with the fact that it would be strange to hear himself singing songs he didn't remember writing, but maybe that would help him gain a little more insight into who he'd used to be. Every little thing could help, right? Surely it couldn't hurt...

Glancing back to the picture of them he held, Kaden could only nod, "I think, with a few tweaks, I could definitely make them into something." He glanced up at her for a moment, winking playfully, "Don't worry, I'm sure you'll be subject to hearing all of my stuff first for awhile. After all, you know best whether it's up to par for me or not." Ok, so he was half kidding, but truly only she would know if his songwriting had improved or not.

The turn their conversation took next had him visibly surprised. If vampires were prone to blushing in embarrassment, he might have done so right then and there. Instead he chuckled lightly, running a hand through the dark strands of his hair, "Am I seeing anyone? Uh....no...I'm guessing the last woman I took out on a date was....you." A little sad, maybe, that he hadn't had any semblance of a romantically social life for over a year? "Not out of line, by the way. Somehow I think you and I discussed far more interesting topics than who I'm not dating." With a reassuring grin, he turned that very question around on her, "What about you....dating?"

A smile that finally reached her eyes shined through and she glanced down at her hands for a moment. "I'd like that a lot." His music was a huge part of who he was, who he had been and why she had loved him as much as she had. "But just so you know, from what I heard last week it's sounding pretty great." His voice was magic and regardless of the fact that he couldn't remember, anything that came from him was amazing.

As she waited for his response, her heart pounded in her chest and she thought it might burst right up until he finally gave her an answer. Oh thank God. The smile from earlier had returned and she couldn't help but laugh. "I'm sorry, I really shouldn't be this happy over the fact that you're single." It was sad that he hadn't found anyone but at the same time she was so completely grateful because it meant that maybe they could get a second chance.

When he turned it around on her, she nearly choked and shook her head somewhat frantically. "Me? Oh no, no, no. Up until a few weeks ago I was...finishing my residency and dating was definitely something that was not on my mind." Sure she had briefly considered it once she had found out that he was still alive but that was more out of spite than anything. Her heart just wasn't ready to let her move on. Not yet.

"Wow so this is awkward huh? How about another beer?"

Music was one of the few traits that seemed able to transcend memory loss. He could remember those first days in Seattle when he'd had no idea who he was or where he'd come from, let alone how he'd landed himself in the city but he'd known, even then, that his passion for music was something to be obeyed. Even then the urge to sing, to get on-stage and perform, the need to write down the lyrics that whizzed about in his brain had been strangely comforting. Surely if this one aspect of his personality had been undamaged, surely he could restore more of who he'd been. Maybe that was just wishful thinking, but there was nothing wrong with having a little hope.

Her reaction to the declaration that he was single might have been more amusing than the will he'd watched her muster to inquire in the first place. "Nah, it's fine," he assured her with one of those famous, ever so charming grins of his, "I think, given our situation, it's perfectly ok to be happy that I'm single. Though really, I don't know that a vamp suffering from memory loss is really quite a catch." He chuckled self-deprecatingly, though really there was some truth there. A relationship with him as he was now would have been a challenge on a good day.

And of course he was going to turn it around on her, he was curious after all. It'd be a bit hard to sit there with her and listen to their shared past if she was off gallavanting around Seattle with someone else in her spare time. It would be quite a blow to her credibility or...something. Right? Sure, yeah, that sounded about right.

"Congrats on finishing up the residency, I can bet that wasn't easy." And he certainly hadn't helped matters, now had he? This was only the first of what he was sure would be many times to come where he would wonder if maybe she didn't deserve better, if maybe he shouldn't be letting her waste valuable time with him when he might never remember what had thrived between them.

"Ah, we do awkward well I think," Kaden grinned, "but sure, another beer sounds great."

Ugh, that grin. It really wasn't fair that he got to have that in his arsenal and not even know just how much it effected her. That grin was the same one that had won her over in the bar that night and captured her heart each day that followed after that. A frown tugged at the corners of her mouth and she shook her head at his words. "You might not remember, but you're still a good man. I know that much." Memory or not, deep down he was still her Kaders.

Even if she had been off galavanting around town with someone, he couldn't possibly hold that against her. Especially if it had been before she had found out he was still alive because it had been over a year since she had thought he had died. Just like it wouldn't have been his fault if he had found someone else. Fortunately that wasn't the case for either of them.

"That's putting it mildly, but it was well worth all of the long hours and sleepless nights." Without that residency, she would have never survived the loss of him. Her heart had been so completely shattered that she needed something to throw herself into so that she could forget about the pain and work through the loneliness. To a certain extent it had worked, but her colleagues could tell she wasn't quite the same.

Serena laughed. "Everyone needs a talent. Don't get up, I'll get them." In one graceful move, she was on her feet and heading to the cooler. Two beers were then retrieved and brought back and she reclaimed the bit of floor to his side. "I know you probably have a million questions, but are there any particular ones you're just dying to have answered?"

The grin was really the key to his arsenal...and pretty much the whole thing. Kaden had never been a ladies man in the truest sense of the word....he'd never had a list of go-to lines for snaring the girl and his flirting had always seemed subpar. Had it always been that way or was he simply floundering now because he had no idea who he was or what he was like? Maybe it was a bit of both, but until he knew for sure, that grin was all he had. "You sound pretty sure of that," his gaze lifted to Serena and he couldn't help but question such conviction. How did she know he hadn't run off and done something awful? Was he capable of it and she simply didn't believe he was? So many questions, so few answers!

Of course he wouldn't hold it against her in the traditional sense of the word, but to a man already suspicious of anyway new as a potential threat, it would take a blow to her credibility. He could never be 100% sure that someone was who they said they were, after all. Kaden was forced to take her word on a lot of things which made him understandably nervous. If he was given a reason to doubt something she said, that nagging little voice in the back of his mind would likely take it and run with it.

"I'm glad it's something you enjoy." And he was, too, given all the hard work it sounded like she'd put into the program. He wondered if he'd always been the type of person that believed you should do what you love for a living or if that was a new opinion developing right now.

He watched as she stood to get them fresh beers, thanking her as he reached up to relieve her of one of the cold bottles she held. He paused to ponder her question, taking a sip from the beer she'd offered him. "I don't know that I would even know what to ask," he admitted with a laugh, "I mean, I don't even remember the basics. Just hearing you talk about who I used to be helps. I can almost pretend that's who I am now, but it isn't there...not really. Not yet, at least."

"That's because I am." In her heart she knew that he could never be the type of man to hurt somebody on purpose. Not unless it was in the defense of someone he loved. Serena had looked into his soul and he was a good man, regardless of the fact that he was a vampire. It was why she had loved him so fiercely.

That line of thinking was legitimate as long as he didn't go assuming things about people she may or may not be spending time with. After all, she was allowed to have friends, wasn't she? Now if she ran out and slept with another man after this, then she wouldn't blame him but for now that wasn't likely to be the case and even though they weren't together, she would stay loyal until he remembered her. Unless of course he gave her reason not to.

She smiled. "It was something I was born to do, or at least I think so anyway." Being a doctor was something she had set her sights on at an early age, no question. "I love being able to help children. I guess I see it my way of giving back to the world." Her life had been good and full of love, didn't everyone else deserve the same chance?

His words caused another pang to spread through her chest but she kept up a brave face. "I don't even know where to start," she admitted herself. "You already know that you were incredibly disorganized," she teased. "You loved music, obviously. You treated Tony like he was your child, spoiled guy." A small hand reached over and gave the dog a scratch on the head. "You never really partied except for grabbing a drink with the guys. You absolutely hated wedding planning. Um..." Her mind was running a million miles an hour trying to come up with things and it seemed that for the most part anything that came out was just some form of word vomit.

"Oh, you absolutely loved the name "Kaders," you thought it was very clever of me." Yeah, there was no way she could keep a straight face with that one. "Okay you hated it, but you kept me around anyway. Oh! And you called me "Slizard" as sort of payback. You said it was my rock star name."

"Well, I guess if one of us has to be sure about that kind of thing, we'd be a lot better off with that person being you," Kaden quipped with a grin, giving Tony another affectionate scratch behind the ear. The pooch had settled behind his onetime master, chin resting against his denim clad knee. The pair seemed to have settled back together quite easily really - Tony clearly didn't give a damn if Kaden had any idea who he was, since he wasn't going anywhere. At least not anytime soon. "Seriously, though, it's kind of nice to hear stuff like that. I haven't had anyone around here to tell me what I was like...before. It's a nice change to be able to hear that now."

Memories or not, he was sure that hearing that she was doing something she loved, that she was happy, would mean a great deal to him. So far, from what he'd seen, she deserved nothing less. He was sure the patients she helped at the hospital were lucky to have her as well - she seemed determined and completely dedicated, two qualities that had to be beneficial in the medical field.

He couldn't imagine that what he was asking was easy. Basically he needed every little detail explained, with as much information as she could possibly muster. To him, given his current state of well...nothingness, it seemed an even more daunting task. He wanted to kick himself for continuing to ask questions, to prod a still-bleeding wound and yet he wanted to learn more, he craved knowledge of his past life. Biting back his curiosity might spare her feelings, but it wouldn't bring him any closer to regaining who he'd been and so while it might have pained him to continue to press, the possible outcome was too good to pass up.

"'Kaders?'" a dark brow arched in amusement. Riiiight, memories or no he wasn't buying that one for some reason. He couldn't help but chuckle when she confirmed that he'd hated the nickname all along. "Well, you see very deserving of a rock star name," he teased with a wink.

She wouldn't lie, it was a difficult and daunting task but she did love him and would go to the ends of the earth if it meant saving him. There was nothing she wanted more in life than for him to regain his memories, to look at her with a love in his eyes, to hold her...She had wished for him to come back to her every night since he had disappeared, and she never stopped wishing.

"Oh yes, I just love to get up on stage and get my rock on." No thank you. The lime light was all his and she really didn't want any part of it. Serena was more than okay watching from the bar and sipping her drink while he performed. Karaoke was even out of the question unless she was highly intoxicated and even then it wouldn't happen because she was likely to fall right off the stage before she could ever get started.

A few more questions were answered and she tried her best to throw little tid bits about his life out there as well. Unfortunately, the hours were slipping off into the night and she did have another long day of unpacking ahead of her. And of course there was the arrival of her brother and she didn't want to be completely exhausted for that.

"Well I know Tony is probably going to hate me for this, but it is pretty late and I have a lot to do tomorrow. Could we pick this up later next week?"

It was getting rather late, wasn't it? Not that he necessarily noticed, of course, but then it was highly likely that they didn't exactly keep the same hours. Now was his prime time, but the same obviously couldn't be said for Serena - which made perfect sense. No use in hanging around draining her emotionally when she probably had better things to do - like sleep - not too mention she wouldn't exactly do the kids at the hospital a lot of good if she was nodding off tomorrow during her shift. Not to mention he had no idea that she was gearing up for her brother's arrival, otherwise he would have left much earlier in the night to make sure she'd have plenty of rest to make the most of Alex's arrival - had he remembered Alex, of course.

"Right, sorry," Kaden grinned, moving to push himself up from the floor, "got caught up in everything, guess I should have remembered that not everyone is as nocturnal as I am." He leaned down to give Tony one last scratch behind the ears, lifting the box of odds and ends that Serena had given him earlier. "Listen, I won't pretend to know how hard all of this is, but I really appreciate it," though his eyes still lacked the affection she was used to seeing, his gaze was noticeably warmer, "and if it starts to get to be too much, I hope you'll tell me."

He moved for the door, pausing one last time to say goodnight before he headed next door to his place. "Whenever you feel like sharing more, you know where I am, no rush," he assured her with a warm smile. "Thanks for this," he lifted the box slightly. Then, with a bit more sincerity, he made sure to add, "Goodnight, Serena." Kaden turned then, digging his keys from his pocket to unlock his door, disappearing into the apartment next to her own.
