Week Two: Thursday
When: Evening
Where: Old Town Towers, A5
Who: Jerzy and Taavi
What: An early dinner so Taavi can go out after

So, the Maggie chic was as close to a mother as Jerzy had ever known. Even if Jerzy was sure she wasn’t much older than him. Maybe five years. Now that was fucked up. Shit like that had a way of getting him down on himself. But Jerzi didn’t talk much about shit like that. The world was full of negativity, when he found something positive, like Maggie, Jerzy didn’t want to in any way, foul that.

There had been girls, ok a girl, that Taavi had allowed close enough, and that Jerzy had really liked to. But Maggie was a whole different thing, a relative stranger really. Gave Jerzy warm fuzzies to think there were really good people out there.

She’d dropped off some goodies, of which, Tanya was now enjoying her part, a jar of kitty treats. The other, a tray of cookies almost too pretty to eat, was sitting in the center of the dining table (yes, they did have one of those.) He had lectured Tanya as he set the tray down that she was to stay off the table today. They were going to actually be using it. They, meaning the humans. Er, human and uh… were. Not that Taavi wasn’t completely human to Jerzy, but yeah.

So, he left the cookies alone, but instead tackled the HoHo’s and Candy Hearts that were the gift from Taavi. Made Jerzy smirk when he saw it. Made him want to do something equally nice for his brother. But aside from kicking his ass at Halo, he didn’t think he really had any good skills, and certainly no money. None of that mattered though because Taavi could buy whatever he wanted for himself anyway. What he decided to give him was, what he thought would be a favorite for both of them. A home cooked meal in a clean apartment.

He did his best, straightening messes, trying to put things where they belonged. But half of it unfortunately, ended in piles, shoved in drawers and cabinets, or even under cushions. This was pretty common when Jerzy tried to clean. Then he found the vacuum cleaner Taavi had bought last year. He used the hose to suck up dust where he could see it, then vacuumed all the floors, whether carpet or linoleum, or tile.

By the time he was done with all that, the frozen chicken he’d put in the oven was almost done. Jerzy put the tub of mashed potatoes in the microwave and beside that the steam in bag corn. He didn’t turn it on yet though, he was going to wait for Taavi to come home before he did that. Soon, he thought. In fact, he didn’t even leave the kitchen, but stood there, petting Tanya on her perch on the counter, waiting for the sound of the front door.

Days like today were always busy for Tavin. Lonely fucking hearts looking for an escape through the pills. The original plan had been to work from dawn to dawn but when Tavin got the hint Jerzy wanted him home for a bit he'd made some arrangements. It didn't give him a hell of a lot of time but it gave him enough, better then nothing really. Lately the nothing seemed pretty common. A few dealers were busted a week or so back and everyone was picking up the slack. That or they were hiding out more, making others have to work even fucking harder.

Tavin didn't have that deep fear of cops or being caught. He was quick and he was resourceful. He'd been doing all of this for a long while now. He knew the ropes, knew how to work a situation and when to back the hell out. He had Jerzy relying on him; he'd never do anything that could leave the kid in a bad place.

The day moved all too slow for Tavin. Yeah it was busy but it was the same thing over and over again. Simpering people coming up talking their stories like Tavin cared. All he wanted was the cash and to get them on their way. He didn't need to know their life’s tale or their heartbreak. He didn't care.

The location changed often, Tavin had gone all over the city and even out of it a few times. Eventually the night fell and Tavin headed back home. He stopped only once, meeting up with another dealer to give a brief detail of what had gone on that day. Keeping him in the loop and giving a brief thanks for covering for a bit. Not that the guy didn't owe Tavin.

It wasn't long before the car was parked in front of the Towers and Tavin was making his way through the lobby. He got the mail, headed towards the elevator and was briefly stilled by a girl from a floor up that flirted it up with him any chance she got. A few words…a suggestion of maybe later and Tavin was on his way again.

Tavin didn’t put anything before his brother. Not work. Not woman. Not drugs or cash or anything else. He made sure Jerzy knew that too. The kid was all he really had.

Keys to the lock, Tavin walked in and gave a vague smirk his brother’s direction. It wasn’t surprising that he was waiting for him…still amused him that his brother could get the timing down so well though. “Should I even ask if you ate up all those sweets already?” Tavin questioned as he tugged off his jacket, hooking it against the back of a chair and tossing his keys onto the counter.

“Place looks nice.” He could appreciate the attempt to clean up…even if he knew that half his stuff was probably all over the place right about now. It was the thought that counted.

Taavi would work thirty hours a day, eight days a week if Jerzy didn’t stop him. Oddly enough, Jerzy understood his brother wouldn’t work nearly so much if it weren’t for him. He knew Taavi felt a duty to him, to provide for him as well as protecting him. Seemed he’d been a father all his life. All he had to do was ask, or hint, and Taavi would do whatever Jerzy wanted, even take a little time off. But he hoped Taavi would go do something fun afterward, not go back to work.

He never rally understood why Taavi didn’t care about cops, or getting caught. Maybe it was a part of, well… what he was. Being a… were-panther. Whatever his reasons, Jerzy didn’t share them. He was as scared of cops and other officials as he was of them. After all, his experiences with them had never been particularly good. Fucking weird how many spooks were on the force too. And the last thing Jerzy wanted was a demon with handcuffs and an armored car to keep him trapped. He knew Taavi was strong, and that he was smart. But Taavi didn’t see things the way Jerzy did. What if the cop was a vampire? Or a demon? Made Jerzy shudder just to think about it. So he tried not to. Not too much anyway.

He hated that he could see all this shit. Wouldn’t it be easier to just go through life all unknowing?

“Of course not.” Only most of it. He’d actually saved one HoHo for Taavi. “But some of it of course. For energy.” He smirked. He turned toward the microwave and pushed the start button so it would start cooking.

“Thanks,” he said without turning around. “Everything will be done soon.” He moved to the fridge and got out a Coke and Mr. Pibb. He reached around the usual Big Red for the Pibb. Even he could get too much sweets sometimes. He set the Coke down in front of Taavi’s place and the other drink at his spot. It was a round table so there wasn’t actually a “head of the table”. Jerzy liked the round table. On the rare occasions when there were other people there it felt more even that way.

He took the chicken out of the oven, cursing out loud when the heat seeped through the towel he’d used as oven mitt. He set it down quickly. “I’m okay,” he added just as quickly. And he was, there were no burns. Just a little red. Grabbing a mitt this time, he carried the chicken to the table. Tanya was of course, following where the chicken smell carried her, but Jerzy reminded her that the table was off limits today. The chicken went next to the pretty cookies. “From Maggie.” He said when, making sure Taavi noticed the heart cookies.

Wouldn’t it be great if Taavi would date Maggie?

He turned right back around when the timer sounded and took the food out of the microwave. Perfect. And Jerzy was starving.

Jerzy was always starving.

Jerzy wasn’t far off, Tavin would work every hour of every day and then some if he was capable of it. It wasn’t just out of that need to take care of his brother and provide for him but also a simple need to keep the fuck busy. Tavin never did stay still very well. Shit his entire life was fucking chaotic so it probably wasn’t any surprise that he felt the need to keep it that way even now. Not that he was saying the money wasn’t worth it, it was. Tavin got paid well for what he was doing and fuck if he felt bad about it. It wasn’t like he was stringing the people out, that was their own choice. You could use and not be a fucking cracked out no life addict. Self control, some didn’t have that and it wasn’t his problem.

He knew that Jerzy didn’t exactly like what he did though, most didn’t. But they’d had the talk before and Tavin kept on doing what he was doing. When you found something you were good at…

For Jerzy it was worry on more then just the drugs, it was the risk. Tavin knew it, and that he did feel a bit bad about. Jerzy worried and he fretted and Tavin really couldn’t stop him from doing so. All he could do was assure him that he’d be alright. Tavin knew he wasn’t the only supernatural out there and that some of them wore badges but…he’d managed to keep himself off the radar this long hadn’t he? No arrests, no prints in the system, nothing. Tavin paid some people to double check that every so often. Most he could do to try to help curb his brothers worry.

Sometimes it seemed to work..othertimes no so much.

“Course not huh?” Tavin remarked with an arch of the brow as he glanced over at his brother But he smirked, slightly shaking his head. Energy…that was one way to look at it at least. And it wasn’t a lie, it did work to get that kid going for awhile. Course then he crashed, not such a bad thing though. Made sure that Jerzy got some sleep if nothing else.

“Alright” Tavin remarked idly, flopping himself down onto one of the chairs in the room, watching Jerzy go about getting the dinner ready. He’d offer to help but he knew that Jerzy liked to do things all on his own sometimes. Made him feel like he contributed, so Tavin let him take care of it all. Even when the kid made a mess or burned the shit out of himself or something else…

“Should have known she’d send something over this way.” He knew she’d sort of taken a motherly sort of tone with Jerzy, it made Tavin cautious but he didn’t say anything about that. She seemed nice enough but…lots of people did. And lots of people weren’t. But him and Maggie? That had no chance in hell. Sure she was hot but so wasn’t Tavin’s sort. She was far too naïve and innocent. Hell of a lot more then her own kid was even.

“Can eat up my share, more for you then anything I’m sure.” And Jerzy knew Tavin really wasn’t into sweets. Not like his kid brother sure was. When everything was all set up Tavin pushed himself back up, taking a seat at the table and cracking open the coke. Beer would have worked but he didn’t keep much in the way of liquor in the house. For a specific reason.

“So hows that needy thing you call a cat settling in around here?” lucky for Jerzy that Tavin didn’t mind cats…now. Were thing he guessed. Before he was not exactly all about having animals in the house.

It was definitely the risk. Jerzy trusted Taavi in everything. Always. And wanted to believe him when he said nothing he was safe. But come on. He didn’t see what Jerzy saw. Of course, if he did… he might not ever leave the house either. Luckily he didn’t. Jerzy hoped no one did. Still, he knew there were some in uniform, “protecting the innocent”… yeah. There was a demon right here in this building that wore a badge. And… something else too. Jerzy couldn’t figure that other one out. He seemed human, but he wasn’t. And he wasn’t a were either. Maybe Jerzy should actually learn about this shit. Fuck… he really didn’t want to. Seeing them was bad enough. Learning more, wouldn’t that be like, inviting them into his home, or something?

For one so fucking cautious as Jerzy was, he really did not have the best judge of character. Maybe he thought that anyone human must be okay. Well, he knew that wasn’t true. But come on, she was human, she was small, she smelled nice, and Jerzy thought she had the kindest, saddest eyes he’d ever seen. He really really really wanted to tell her her boyfriend was a demon. Jerzy had no idea how he knew… there wasn’t anything physical about him that made it obvious to him. Just more like, something black around him maybe. Or almost like a sign stamped on his forehead where that nasty scar was that said “DEMON”. Maybe she already knew. And if she did, then Jerzy was dead wrong about her. He didn’t think she did though. Just like he didn’t think she knew he often had other women.

Taavi really was a nosy neighbor. Possible that he might know as much about this place as the ghosts. Of course, a lot of his information came from the ghosts. Not that he was sure he could trust them with the truth.

Mom and dad had both liked the booze a bit too much. Jerzy figured that out from questions, since Taavi always spoke the truth to him. Even if they were a bit of a sore subject. Jerzy didn’t drink however, so neither had to worry about that. Though he did have other weaknesses. Besides just sugar.

“Her name’s Tanya and she loves you. She keeps rubbing all over your clothes & shit and purring. Any time I can’t find her she’s curled up in the bottom of your nasty ass dirty clothes.” It was true. In fact, Tanya was rubbing up against Taavi’s boot at that moment. Meanwhile, Jerzy, plopped a spoonful of potatoes on his plate and helped himself to two big juicy pieces of chicken. He pulled off a piece and dropped it to the floor for Tanya.

No Tavin didn’t see what his brother saw but sometimes he could sense it, especially when his brother got all tense or strange. That’s when Tavin knew something was around that wasn’t exactly right or alive. When it came to the supernaturals though…those Tavin knew. He could smell them, he could feel them, a strange charge against his skin that made the hairs stand up. Yeah he always knew when he had a supernatural client or when one of them was wearing a badge and eyeing a place. Tavin did well to keep to the shadows though, out of sight. Not always, but better then most. He’d set up another take a fall for him before he’d let himself get picked up. Cruel but true. Tavin wasn’t going anywhere, his brother needed him.

For Tavin that was that. He took a hell of a lot of risks but he never went any farther in the whole scheme of things then he was for good reason. The more power you got, the more eyes started to watch. The more risks there were. That wasn’t for Tavin. Most that knew him didn’t care what he did. There had only been two in all his life that really had spoken up about it and neither had been able to sway him. Then again that bitch wasn’t allowed to sway him anything. Not before, not now.

Still Tavin worried about his kid brother, he wanted to try to help him but when it came to what his brother could do or see Tavin was pretty clueless. Sure he knew the supernatural world and all but that sort of understanding only went so far. If he ever ran into someone with the same thing though he’d probably hit them up with some questions.

Just like he hit up his brother with questions sometimes. Maybe it wasn’t very nice but Tavin was the sort that did better when he had dirt on people. Kept his ass out of the fire more then once in his life. Neighbors, people those neighbors were tied to. Yeah he liked to know it all but rarely did he let it known he knew. Not until it was needed. So he didn’t mind that his brother was a bit nosy, gave the kid something to do. Tavin just made sure the kid didn’t push too far with people he shouldn’t.

Like that demon. Not that Tavin had any problems with him, far from it really. But it wasn’t someone he wanted his brother anywhere near. Not that the kid would, he sure didn’t like demon energies much. With good reason.

Tavin had to answer his fair share of questions sometimes too. He wasn’t ever all that happy with it but he always answered with the truth when it came to Jerzy. He’d never once lied to him. He was the only person in all their lives that he hadn’t lied to.

“It’s a cat thing, she doesn’t seem to get I’m not into the real thing though.” That cat never left him the hell alone. Sure he was a cat and all but damn he did not need to be covered in fur that wasn’t his own thanks. Booting her away never worked, she always came back. Least food worked, so long as Jerzy kept feeding her she’d stay away. Not like Tavin was mean to her, would make Jerzy sad. But he didn’t need her attempting to damn well trip him every morning.

Tavin shook his head, dishing up some food. More chicken then anything else. “What you been up to?” Tavin wasn’t home as much as he should be and he knew it.

Yeah, it sucked, Jerzy agreed. But they weren’t exactly in a position to be overly sympathetic. Not like Tavin would set up some innocent. Some not quite guilty of that particular thing maybe, But someone far from innocent all the same. In this world you had to look out for your own first. It was the dirty truth they knew from an early age. Tavin had always done for the others, probably always would. He sacrificed all the time, for Jerzy, didn’t mean it would extend to everyone.

Because Jerzy did need him.

Maybe if Jerzy had a better handle on it all, or could some how use it, to their advantage… like the guys when they were little wanted to do. But not like Jerzy or Taavi wanted to fuck with any of those kinds. There were some scary sorts out there. Well, in here too, in their building. In a way Jerzy was beginning to do just that though. He actually was talking to some of the ghosts with more comfort now. They kind of forced it.

They always had lots of stories about the other tenants.

But ghosts were one thing. And maybe he might even be okay with some other weres if he met them. But yeah, demons? No way. And vampires? Best to just keep that wood and silver cross around his neck.

“But look at her, Taavi. Look at that sweet face.” He snickered and scratched down her back as the cat purred up against Taavi’s leg. He took a bite out of his chicken and chased it with a bunch of potatoes before he even swallowed. He shrugged at the question. “Nothin. Got a betta testing tomorrow though. But fuckers made it for like seven. Gonna be out late because of that.” Yet another reason Jerzy felt lame. Late was when all the excitement happened. But he knew, what most others knew, that late was when all the monsters came out to play.

Tavin was an asshole in a lot of ways but he wasn’t the sort of guy that would set up someone that didn’t have a wrap sheet far more fucked up then his own. Saving his ass was high on his priorities but he wasn’t going to fuck over someone that didn’t deserve it in the process. He had some standards. If it was something he knew his brother would really hate him doing…Tavin didn’t do it. The drug running…both didn’t like it but shit needed to be done and it wasn’t like Tavin could make bank washing fucking dishes or something.

No Tavin had to provide for his brother and for his damned self and pathetic little jobs just wasn’t going to cover it. He’d be gone even more then now, which was pretty difficult to imagine but completely possible all the same.

When it came to abilities though Tavin didn’t push the kid. He figured it would be pretty cruel too. He was seeing things he didn’t want to see and that was something he had to deal with on his own terms and own time. Tavin thought that he’d be able to handle it all better if he got a grasp on it, you know started to understand that whole world he was sort of in. But throwing him headfirst into it wasn’t the way. Tavin just taught him what he could and sort of went with that.

Bad and good, kid needed to be informed. Could make him end up even more fucked if he didn’t.

All of that was why there were crosses up and around the house though. Tavin was damned far from religious but the stuff made Jerzy feel safer. Didn’t hurt Tavin any so it was win win really. Some of it was pretty damned ugly though. But Tavin could deal with ugly if it made Jerzy feel better.

He even kept a cross buried in his jacket to make Jerzy feel better. Whatever helped the kid sleep better at night.

“Yeah, sweet. Or really fucking annoying. Going to start rubbing catnip all over your clothes so she leaves me alone for awhile.” No catnip did not make Tavin go all fucking crazy too thank you very much, he wasn’t some damned house cat. Why this cat was all over him he had no idea, didn’t she get the fact that he could damned well bite her head off? Weird little thing.

“When you think its going to get out?” Tavin questioned, arching a brow before chewing down some more chicken. “Can swing by and pick you up.” He didn’t like Jerzy out to late…for that damned reason specifically. He liked to think the kid could take care of himself and most of the time he could but…Tavin was protective. Not just because Jerzy was kid like at times but…because Jerzy was all he had left.

“Can get some fucking dinner or something afterwards.” He could find someone to cover a few hours for it.

Two birds with one stone. Get the eyes off of you and get an asshole out of the way. Not that Tavin was like a stoolie or anything. He wouldn’t just start ratting people out. No way. But fuck him over, or do something even worse, then you’d be the first person the cops are coming for when they should be looking for Tavin. Jerzy knew Taavi did that kind of thing sometimes. Usually made him smirk ‘cause the guys were assholes. Usually real scum of the Earth kind of guys. The kind that would sell their own kid for a dime.

No, what Jerzy saw he didn’t wish on anyone. Some of it, some of the demons, coukld be really fucking ugly. Sometimes it was as subtle as something in their eyes. Other times it was shit that would make Wes Craven shit his pants. He never got used to it. Maybe because it was always so different. But he didn’t kid himself, he knew others wouldn’t take it as hard as he had. After all, he’d been seeing them since he was little, you’d think he’d be used to it by now. Taavi, Jerzy thought, would be a lot stronger. He’d tell the demons and ghosts to go fuck themselves.

The crosses did more than just make Jerzy feel safer, he was sure. The crosses, the holy water, the prayer cards. He had some of the prayers memorized. He liked to keep Wiccan candles burning too. It was sort of a spiritual hodgepodge. Of course he had no idea if any of it would work on all of them. The ghosts for instance, didn’t care. But Jerzy thought some at least would be bothered enough not to bother with him and Taavi.

Jerzy laughed and helped himself to another full plateful. “Sweet. Drug the pussy. She’ll like that. Probably think it’s your special gift to her.” He snickered. Hey, even felines deserved some means of getting high.

“It’s okay, it’s Friday.” Which meant he knew it was one of Taavi’s busiest nights, especially around the time he’d be cutting loose. “Mark and his brother are gonna give me a ride. We’re gonna get pizza or something.” Not that they were the most reliable people, but there was always the bus.

“But we should do something Sunday or something.” He liked to pick a day that would be less busy for Taavi. Sunday might not be it. Hard to know. Depended on his current regulars or something.

The people that Tavin was around weren't exactly good people. Tavin just didn't care, he knew he wasn't exactly in that "good" category either and he wasn't really trying to be. All he cared about was keeping Jerzy and him safe. Beyond that he didn't really give a shit. He'd screw people over, break the laws, kill, he did what it took to keep them going and living better then they had when they were younger. Tavin had never let them scrape by on the streets never eating or freezing at night...wasn't ever going to happen either. Not so long as he was around.

And especially because of the shit his brother could see. Without a place to call his own he wouldn’t feel like he had any protection at all and he knew that would get to Jerzy. It would be too much. No they needed a place to call their own, somewhere for the kid to set up shop or whatever really. If Tavin could he'd do more but he didn't have much sway over what his brother saw. He just could help him deal once he'd seen it.

That and he worked to keep things light for the kid. Make sure he had few worries...or tried.

Tavin rolled his eyes at that one. "Shit I'm just never going to be able to get away from her then am I?" talk about a pain in the ass. He could deal with the whole attention seeking thing sometimes but every second? Come on didn't a cat need to sleep at some point or you know...see something shiny?

"So long as you got a ride." Tavin didn't really like Jerzy out late and though the buses did work...he still preferred him to have a direct ride, no stops or having to wait. Tavin knew them though, they were alright enough. Enough so that he’d let Jerzy be around them without him being there. Most of the time Tavin was the sort that if Jerzy didn’t know him, he shouldn’t be around them. Though Jerzy could see a lot his gut feeling on people didn’t always match Tavin’s own.

Then again Tavin just didn’t trust a fucking person except the kid.

“Alright, Sunday I can do.” Tavin nodded, and with that Sunday he’d be there. No ifs ands or buts. Sundays were slow anyways, not like he hadn’t covered enough peoples hours lately. They owed him. “Anything in particular you’ve been wanting to do? Movie or something?” he had no idea if there were any events going on or what not, he didn’t typically keep up with that stuff much. Not unless it was club related or bar related, then it was business related.

As he ate he nudged the kitten off, often throwing chicken Jerzy’s way just to get the cat to go over that away from time to time. Persistent little bitch.

The people Tavin hung with weren’t good people. They never had been. What did that matter? All that did was that Tavin was good people. Oddly enough the women he attracted were just as often good as they were not good. Bad a judge of character as Jerzy could be, even he knew some of those girls were skanky ass fucking bitches. But not all were. Some were sweet and good. Okay… Jade was sweet and good. That one Jerzy knew he hadn’t been wrong about.

He took damn good care. And a good thing. When Jerzy wasn’t busy seeing things he was usually having panic attacks or asthma or nearly dying because his blood count was so low. He told himself sometimes that it was all in his head. But some on, blood count was not in his head.

Maybe vampires were getting him and then wiping his memory.

Yeah.

If they had to live on the street, it would suck, but at least he’d still have Taavi. If he didn’t have Taavi Jerzy had no doubt where he’d be… in the state hospital. Or maybe on the street since that’s where half their patients end up. So yeah, either way he’d be on the streets. Option A he’d have his brother. Option B… he’d be fucked.

She saved all that for when Taavi wasn’t home. Which was a lot really. So like Jerzy, when Taavi was around she wanted to see him. She wanted to spend time with him. She wanted to be near him. Okay, so maybe it wasn’t exactly like Jerzy. Jerzy loved his brother and all, but he wasn’t a freak about it.

“Yeah, it’ll be alright, don’t worry. And I’ll take my cell phone.” The phone he usually used only for texting annoying messages to his brother.

He snickered at Taavi’s question. Yeah, there was something. “IMax. Showing “Bugs”. It looks good.” Of course afterward he’d have to come home and really really try to clean the place. One good thing about Tanya, she made sure there were no bugs around.

He reached down and scratched her behind the ears every time she came near. Finally he lifted her up onto his lap. Of course, she thought that meant that his plate was her plate too. He shrugged and continued petting, apparently more interested in the cat now then the food.

Jade. Now there was a topic that Jerzy knew to not bring up. Tavin was the sort that didn't let anyone the fuck in. No damn point, too risky, and never worth it. People didn't really want to know others, they just wanted to pick people apart and tell them how they weren't how they wanted them to be. Relationships weren't for him, his focus was on work and his brother and beyond that the world could go fuck itself. if Jade was good people or not, it didn't matter anymore. Amusing to tease her when she's first arrived back but that game had been played and thrown out.

Tavin had no plans to let any of that happen again.

Once under his skin was enough. Distracted too much. Not worth the trouble, not worth the effort, and always trying to poke her damned nose into shit that wasn't her business. Least Jerzy knew when to let things go. When arguments just weren't going to do a bit of fucking good.

Course the kid knew Tavin better then anyone. Just like Tavin knew him. Quirks and all. When he got sick Tavin knew how to get him better. When he freaked out Tavin knew how to calm him down. Hell he could even do so over text messages, though it wasn't as good as actually being around. But it was why he stopped home as often he could, even if for just a minute or two. Check in, make sure everything was alright.

Maybe he was over protective in a way...but better to be that then nothing at all. Least that was Tavin's damn view on it given how well he knew the not protective at all side of things.

"Alright, good, just remember to charge the thing before you go." bad habit the kid had, Tavin used to but when that became the only way to get a hold of him he took to keep sparing batteries on him just in case.

"You really want to see that huh?" Tavin questioned, arching a brow a bit as he glanced over at Jerzy. He knew how it would go; he'd be fascinated through the entire thing. He'd want to go through all the exhibit stuff over there...then he'd get home and wonder about all the bugs in the house. They were going to end up with a bunch more cats weren't they? Tavin hoped not.

Tavin finished up his food, seeing to his fair share of the chicken before standing up and gathering up the plates since Jerzy was done and distracted now. “Bugs…” he shook his head slightly “Find out what times its showing and everything, can make a day of that place.” He knew Jerzy liked it, though it was better on days when most people were at work. They’d just have to find an off peak hour to go around there. Less slap a fucking screaming kid like.

Jade was more than good people though. She’d been a friend, and for a little while, she’d felt like family. Jerzy had liked her a lot. But far be it for him to expect Taavi to keep a girl around just for that. Pfft. He knew the score. Much as he acted like it after all, Jerzy wasn’t really a kid. He got that what Taavi really liked in Jade he could just as much get from the next girl. Easier to get a girl that didn’t know you and ditch her before she got to.

But girls like that didn’t do much baking. Or cleaning. And they sure as hell wouldn’t hang out and play Bullshit, or anything other cardgame for that matter. Most girls were just plain bitches. Those Jerzy didn’t care if they never came back.

But didn’t matter, no matter how pretty or sweet or nice smelling, there wasn’t a girl out there that took care of Jerzy like Taavi did. Fuck anyone that tried to come between them, they were brothers through thick and thin. Nothing could ever change that. Just that Jerzy thought Jade had really made Taavi happy. He seemed at ease with her, even had a different sort of look on his face when she was around.

Maybe Jerzy had imagined all that.

“Yeah yeah yeah. It’s in the charger now.” He just kept it in there anymore. After a few times of losing the battery. That fucking sucked. No, Jerzy did not want to be left without his phone and contact with Taavi.

He laughed. “Of course. What’s not to like about a bunch of giant bugs on the screen looking like they’re about to devour you?” Probably would make him a little nervous after all, but it would still be cool. “Sure. I’ll see if thre’s a midnight showing or something.” Something way after the little kids had all gone to bed.

He styed in his seat, snuggling Tanya and kissed her on the head as he rubbed all over it while Taavi moved around with the dishes. “Thanks” He murmured. “I can finish them though.”

Easier to ditch a person before they got too close. Started to get their noses into the deeper secrets that they didn’t need to get into. In truth Tavin really hadn’t thought that Jade would run off screaming if she knew the truth…and that had only made him want to push her away all the more. Tavin had no belief in love and sure as hell didn’t expect any relationship he entered into to be filled with hearts and fucking roses. He was more of the fun, fuck, go on with his day sort of guy. Nothing long term, nothing meaningful. It was a hell of a lot easier when it came to his life. No one to question, no one else to take care of. Kept his focus on the important shit.

Jade…yeah if anyone ever stood a chance of screwing up all that thinking it was her. Which was why she was gone. Booted, cast aside and never allowed back in. She would have tried if he’d given her even a hint that he’d missed her when they crossed paths again. But Tavin did no such damn thing. He was well aware of how Jerzy felt about her. He’d made t hat face when Tavin told him that she wasn’t going to be coming around anymore. That face that said everything without saying anything at all. The kid got over it though.

Little bitch would at some point too.

“Alright, how about don’t forget it there then?” Tavin returned with a slight arch of his brow and a subtle smirk at his lips. Jerzy did have a knack for forgetting things but he did tend to keep track of the phone. Mostly for that security of knowing that Tavin was only a few button pushes away. It didn’t matter what Tavin was doing, if Jerzy called and said he needed him, he was there. He’d walked out on clients and bosses alike.

The boss he had now, at least, understood that shit. Not much of a family person but they understood Tavin did what he had to do. They respected that in a fashion. And sometimes used it to their advantage too but…was how the business fucking worked. Not like Tavin faulted them for it.

“Na devouring would be too quick. They just want to crawl all over you and hang out.” Speaking of which that little fluffball rat in his brothers arms had better not been flea ridden. Tavin hadn’t even had any time to really think about that till now. Before it was just Jerzy wanted the furry little fucker so he said sure. No hesitation, now he was eyeing the little critter.

“That works, can hit up some dinner or whatever.” Dinner, show up for some exhibits before they closed those down then hit the showing and head back home.

“Don’t worry about it kid. You cooked, I clean.” Yeah Tavin could be domesticated in a way, maybe not the typical ways but he knew how to clean house and surprisingly enough was not a messy guy. He hated having shit everywhere to trip over.

“so what’s the betta testing for anyways? Or they trying to keep it all a surprise and shit?” some did, some didn’t. Tavin had gone to one with Jerzy, wasn’t really his thing but he wasn’t bad at it. Every now and again Jerzy could convince Tavin to sit down and play some video games or whatever.

Of course Jerzy got over Jade. She hadn’t been his girl. He kind of had to wonder at how quickly Taavi got over her though, and how he seemed not even to notice at all. In fact, some times, in the beginning, it seemed like he was going way out of his way to be “over her”. Like screwing around with a lot more girls, doing harder drugs, anything and everything she wouldn’t have liked. Maybe that was how he’d had to get over her.

Or maybe that was just him breathing.

He rolled his eyes and smirked as he left his seat with the citten in tow to find a nice cold root beer. He popped it open. “No leaving the phone. Got it. Rootbeer float?” He asked before he took a drink and pulled the vanilla ice cream from the freezer. Oh wait. Shit. “Cookies,” he said as he returned the ice cream and nearly slammed the freezer shut. “Been waiting all day.” No plates, that would be kind of fancy, he just went back to the table, ripped off the plastic, and grabbed the second largest of the batch. The biggest one was for Taavi. Jerzy pushed the plate toward his brother. “Mmm Good,” he mumbled, hardly understandable though with his mouth so full.

He made a face and puffed out his cheeks like he might be sick. Yeah, bugs crawling all over him was not cool. He shivered at the thought. Blech. “Fucking nasty man.” He paused only slightly in his scratching the now prone, purring, and nearly sedated kitten. “What?” he asked. Weird how Taavi was looking at him. “What’s wrong?” The cat shifted and Jerzy went back to cuddling, at which point Tanya spazzed and leapt out of his arms, up his chest, over his shoulder and leapped to the floor.

Fine. Jerzy was ready for another root beer anyway. “I don’t know, they didn’t say. Super secret shit. Military of some kind, but with a history angle. Sort of like Assassin, I guess.” He hoped it was a challenge. So few really were anymore.

Tavin did as he often did after Jade was out of the picture. He never was exactly the lingering sort and having woman around and then gone wasn’t all that abnormal. Most of the time he just didn’t have time to bother with any of the BS. But that didn’t stop him from being a guy. Sometimes a good lay was the best cure to a shitty day. Didn’t mean that he wanted to hang out with the bitch afterwards or really liked her. Drugs, women, drink, all of it was Tavin in a way. But unlike his fucked parents, he could handle his shit. He didn’t get all violent or start screaming. No he’d gotten frustrated with the kid once or twice but never, ever, yelled.

Wasn’t how shit worked between them. Never would be. Tavin would make sure of that.

“Surprised your going the cookies or rootbeer float route.” He remarked, glancing over at his brother as he cleaned up the kitchen a bit. Normally with Jerzy it was both or combine to two if he could. Like dip the cookies in the icecream in the float or whatever. Kid could never have enough sugar, Tavin had no idea how he did it. He’d get sick on all the crap that kid ate.

“Seriously didn’t even eat one huh? That’s some willpower…” especially for Jerzy who always had to sneak at least a little taste, just to make sure they were good before making Tavin eat one. Public service and all of that. He had his doubts that anything Maggie brought over was going to taste bad though. She had that real mom sort of cooking going on. The sort that was for making kids happy. Their mom lacked that crap. Tavin lacked it too, but he wasn’t trying to play mom. He was just trying to be protector, beyond that he wasn’t very good at much of that “parenting” bullshit.

Tavin snickered at his brothers shuddering about bugs. Tavin remembered times where bugs really were a problem, so here in this nice of a place he didn’t even think about it. Shit a spider or two once and awhile was nothing. It was normal. “Nothing” though he muttered about the look. Yeah he was going to have to tackle that cat later and make sure she wasn’t covered in bugs. Not something he was going to mention to Jerzy, didn’t need him freaking out if she was clean and fine.

And if she wasn’t…well he’d clean her up and clean the house up. What Jerzy didn’t know didn’t hurt him or something. Not a lie, just keeping the kid from getting bug creeped out. There was a difference.

“Tell them to put it on the hardest level they got for it.” Tavin remarked, throwing the rest of the dishes into the dishwasher and starting it up before heading over to the couch to sit down for a bit.

And yes he grabbed a cookie to make Jerzy happy. “Actually are pretty good.” One was more then enough for him though.

Definitely an odd thing when Taavi kept to one woman. Usually Jerzy was fine with that, seeing as most of them were just tits and legs, a pretty face and not much else. Really didn’t like having a living breathing human person creeping him out when there was enough else in the world to do that thank you very much.

Good thing Jerzy’s day to day life wasn’t really all that stressful though. Because it really didn’t look like he was going to get laid any time soon. Not that he didn’t have girls hitting on him when he was out and about, but Taavi didn’t really know how to deal with all that. Socializing was awkward enough, but flirting?

So it was looking more and more like it was going to be Taavi and Jerzy. Forever. Taavi was normal, well, except for that whole turning into a big cat once a month. He deserved a normal life. A wife maybe. Picket fence, kids, all that shit. Whatever it was, Jerzy sometimes worried he might be holding him back from living the life he should have.

Not that Taavi ever implied anything like that. The opposite in fact. Jerzy knew it was true that Taavi didn’t mind, still didn’t make it all okay though.

“Oh yeah.” Words mumbled through a cookie filled mouth. “Think I had enough today.” Shock! But damn, there’d been all the candy, the Hoho’s, the cookies… and all that on top of his usual sugar consumption of sweetened cereal, sodas, and the like. He shook his head when questioned about the cookies. “Had the Hoho’s instead.” It had been a little like Christmas or his birthday, the anticipation as sweet as the actual opening the gifts.

He might not have been so freaked about bugs on the kitten. Just a bit upset to think about them making lunch on his skin. But then he might have. Some of the places they’d been before were terrible. Hard to tell what’s worse… waking up with roaches crawling on you, or rats. Actually both pale in comparison to waking up to a woman with half her face missing and maggots crawling out the side of her head trying to kiss you on the face.

That one won hands down as creepiest way to wake up.

But it wasn’t even the worst Jerzy had seen.

“Yeah.” He nodded joining Taavi on the couch. “Hopefully it’ll be good. New usually is. A challenge just in that.” And here came Tanya again, first to Jerzy lap, purring loudly, her shivering tail sticking straight up in Jerzy’s face while she stared down Taavi before making her way slowly across the couch toward him.

“Of course they’re good.” He chuckled as he dragged Tanya back into his lap and scratched her vigorously. Tanya mewled slightly annoyed at the interruption of her plans.

Tavin tried to keep his "dates" out of the house most of the time. It wasn't like he thought Jerzy didn't get the whole sleeping around thing. Or at least get why Tavin did it. But was more a respect thing. Wasn't something he felt the need to bring around the house. Jade had spent nights though, too damn many in Tavin's opinion. Enough that she started to feel at home and that hadn't sat well with him. Hell no.

Normal wasn't a life that Tavin was looking for and it wasn't one that he fucking believed in. People in those houses with white picket fences and the kids and dog and shit generally were pretty fucked up. Great outward appearance, fucked once you got through the front door. No happy endings, no perfect, none of that cookie cutter bullshit that people were fed from the moment they were born. Tavin was a realist. He understood people sucked and the world could be shit. He made do with what he had and just focused on making him and Jerzy as happy as they could be.

It wasn't always easy, but he tried. Was all he really could aim for. But he knew one thing for sure, Jerzy never held him back. Though at times he worried he was holding Jerzy back by not pushing him out into the world more. Not like he told the kid he couldn’t work or had to stay in or anything he just wanted him to be careful.

"I think I want that in writing. First time ever." Tavin joked with a shake of his head. Tavin was pretty sure that kid could just eat a bag of sugar all day long and never really get burnt out on the crap. If he'd reached his limit then he'd probably had a hell of a lot more then Tavin realized already.

Was something good for the kid to focus on though. Tavin tried to make sure he had lots of that. Kid saw a lot of fucked up things. Tavin saw the hell found in the real world and Jerzy saw the hell that lived in that other sort of world. Neither were all that pretty.

Tavin stifled a yawn before sort of molding into the couch for a bit. He had to get back out there at some point tonight but he wasn’t in some race out the door. Shit he’d prefer to just stay in, crash out to a second or third movie, not worry about work tonight.

Didn’t get to go that way though, he had some stuff to see to that couldn’t be put off.

“Movie or some gaming before I gotta head out for a bit?” Tavin questioned, glancing over at Jerzy. Sometimes it was just dinner and then Tavin left but more often then not he tried to stick around for awhile. Watch some tv, hang out, something to just keep him around for awhile longer then normal. Jerzy seemed to appreciate it, which meant a lot to Tavin.

Okay so, maybe not “normal”. But something for him. Jerzy didn’t really get why Taavi didn’t want someone to be happy with. Jerzy would want it, if he had the chance. Problem was, he was sure he never would have the chance. After all, he was already past 30. Still a kid to Taavi maybe, but Jerzy knew better. He was not a kid anymore. In fact, far from it. In some ways his body was already starting to feel the affects.

Unemployed, and he believed, unemployable, and unable to cope in society… and that was just a few of the reasons he’d never have a normal life. How could he really? And not like any normal woman would look at him twice without believing him socially retarded or something. Hell, maybe he was. He was sure he was.

Unless it was another gamer geek. He had hooked up with a couple of them.

He gave his brother a lop-sided grin in response to the bit about the sugar. “Here, I’ll put it on the calendar. 14 Feb, 2008… Jerzy turned down sugar.” He chuckled. As he wrote it on the calendar. While he was at it he wrote down “Bugs” in big letters on Sunday.

Once seated. He wiggled his brows in response to Taavi’s question. “Assassin's Creed?” Already he was handing over controls and getting shit set up.
