Who: Ruby & Sam
What: confessions, tying up some loose ends.
When: Sunday, late at night.
Where: their room in the Mansion
Warnings: possible Ruby-death, though she'll do her best to avoid that, of course.
There was only so long she could put it off. Really, it was probably a miracle that she'd put it off this time-- a miracle in the form of zombies, which had sufficiently distracted Sam from worrying about her or wondering about their future at home. And fighting that battle alongside him, seeing him crowned as a result, had been good. Ruby had ridden that high all the way to the top, and she didn't want to come down.
But she knew better, now. That didn't last forever, or it wouldn't at home. This place wouldn't last forever, either. She had to make her move, her gamble, and hope that it worked-- or literally die trying. There was no getting around the part of her actions that would make Sam want to kill her; she couldn't hide them forever, especially not now that her stupid human self had practically given it away. All she could do was try to explain it away, and change it, and maybe that would be enough.
So when they'd returned to their room, she started to pace, at a loss for something else to do. It would have been easier to have this conversation if she had something to be doing with her hands-- blood to be cleaning off of a weapon would have worked nicely, but there hadn't been anything to kill since they'd finished off the zombies. Instead, she found herself picking up the crown that Sam had been given when he'd been named King of Zombie Killing, or whatever it was, and turning it over and over in her hands.
"Sam," she said finally, although she was aware that he had probably already noticed her pacing-- hoped so, maybe, because she wanted him to see her emotional distress. That was manipulative of her, maybe, but it didn't make the emotion any less genuine. "There's something I have to tell you. About what I said-- before. When I was human." She looked up at him, still holding the crown. "I'm from a little bit ahead of you. And I did fuck up. I've been trying to figure out how to make it right, and... I think I've figured out how."
