Who: Sam & Ruby
What: meeting up.
When: eh, let's just say it's today.
Where: the Mansion on the Hill
Warnings: TBD
Well. Ruby had liked this place quite a bit better before Sam had shown up. Before he'd gotten here, all she'd had to worry about was staying out of the way of the potential smite-y types around so that she could enjoy her fries and drinks. For a little while there, it had seemed that most people didn't even realize she was a demon, or at least didn't make her aware of it. It was a strange feeling to be in a crowd of dead, undead, and everything in between, and not feel like all of them were out for her head. And now, in a strange turn of events, the person she was most concerned about being targeted by was her former ally: Sam Winchester.
Which meant she had to deal with all the complicated thoughts that she'd been putting off. She'd almost have said that they were emotions as well, except that she didn't really do those. She didn't do sad, or hurt feelings, or guilt. Definitely not guilt. But she felt that she would have been within her rights to be upset about what had happened to her right before she'd arrived here, about the fact that Sam had wanted her dead, even if he wasn't going to be the one to stab her himself. After everything she'd done for him, she hadn't expected that. And now he seemed to have forgotten all of it, or not lived it yet.
Or, it was a ruse. A week ago she would have doubted he could have fooled her, doubted he would even try, but now she wasn't so sure. There was a chance that she had underestimated his cunning, that he'd actually been playing her all along, while she'd thought she'd been the one playing him.
But she still doubted that. The more likely explanation was that despite all her hard work, he was still too good a person to take what Lucifer would have offered him, even with all other options off the table. Maybe Sam Winchester could be convinced to do bad in the interest of good, but he still wasn't truly corruptible. That was kind of a depressing thought. Even more depressing was that she wasn't even really mad at him for it, just a little exasperated. He'd definitely gotten to her somehow, even if it wasn't on purpose.
She found him in the kitchen of the mansion he'd specified, rustling through the cabinets. She stayed in the doorway, not quite directly behind him, and leaned against the door jamb, crossing her arms. He was looking for salt-- was that intended for her, or for everything else?
Probably not for her, she decided, at least not yet. Now that she was closer, she could smell him-- his soul, and more importantly his blood, which wasn't quite so demonic as it had been when she'd seen him last. He really seemed to be from a time before draining that nurse dry, before going to the convent, before killing Lilith. Before killing Ruby. Well, she could work with that.
"Nice digs," she said, by way of announcing her presence. "Find anything useful?"
