Week 18- Friday
Who: Simon and Sydni
Where: Sydni's Room
When: Friday Evening

Oh God, oh God. Simon was pacing in his room. He'd been fidgety all day, ever since Cissy had left this morning. His feet wouldn't stop tapping, his fingers were itching to tear up paper, bend staples and pull at the threads in his jeans. His thoguhts had been all scattered and off in the clouds. It was about seven at night and still he couldn't stop feeling so twitchy. It was a good twitchy, but twitchy all the same.

He decided he couldn't stand it anymore. There was only one person he could talk to (as he only had one friend at Halcyon) and he'd been avoiding it because he knew a friend of hers had just gone, and she probably didn't want to hear his lovesick babbling. Well, too bad for her. Simon zipped up his hoodie and headed out to invade Sydni's personal space again.

After taking very few seconds to check that all was clear (since he wasn't supposed to be there and he knew it), Simon tapped on Sydni's door. Waited .04 seconds. Tapped again. Gave her a full 2 seconds this time, tapped again. It wasn't that he needed to be let in right away in case he got caught (although that was important too), but he felt like if he didn't talk to someone about this he would burst.

As soon as the door opened, Simon's voice leapt out of his mouth. "I have to tell you something!" he declared urgently.

What was with the sudden exodus from the school? Starbuck leaving she understood - he had responsibilities to his daughter and her mother, and she admired that he was putting his family first. He was an incredible guy. Miklos, though, had also left - for some research somewhere, and she was honestly more than a little upset. She had enjoyed her independent study with him, and it just... ended. On top of that... No, she wouldn't even think about Charlie. She just hoped he liked the poster she'd gotten for him.

Heaven and Hell was reopening tonight, and she toyed with the idea of going, but she had work the next morning. And well, really, who would she go with? She was starting to feel very alone again. She hadn't hung out with Frankie in forever, things were still touch and go with Shaye, and, yeah... time to stop that train of thought.

She had gotten quite a bit done with her days off on Tuesday and Wednesday, and she really didn't have a lot to do this weekend. She could get it done after work, she was sure, so she decided to enjoy a night in. Getting into her jammies early, she popped some popcorn and flopped onto her bed to enjoy some junkie movies - the Goonies, Pirates... Hmm, seems she had a theme.

Goonies had just gotten started when someone knocked at her door. She didn't even have the chance to say she was coming when the person knocked again. A bit annoyed at the impatience, she called with some irritation, "I'm coming." Ready to snap when the person knocked a third time, she pulled open the door, and was startled at Simon's blurting. "Um, ok. Come in," she offered, immediately sensing a sort of urgency and losing her frustration. "Is everything ok, Simon?"

As he came inside, Simon made a beeline for Sydni's bed. "It occured to me you're my only friend," he began, having himself a seat. "And if I don't talk to someone about this I think I'll gut myself." He picked up a stuffed animal and started fiddling with it, making the legs and arms move up and down.

"Cissy spent the night in my room last night. And nothing happened. Well, not nothing, but THE thing didn't happen. And not much more than kissing. There wasn't even any nudity. Well, for a second she was kind naked, but I didn't see anything, and I didn't have a shirt on. But nothing happened with that." He gave a sidelong glance at Sydni. "Um, you probably don't care about that. Sorry." His face flushed.

"But now I have a problem. Actually, I have two. Now we've been all intimate- Cissy and me, not you and me- and I don't know where to go now. She expects me to take her out again, and I promised to take her on a super nice date, like the best place any girl would want to go. But I have no idea what to do for a date like that!" He threw his hands in the air, tossing the stuffy onto the bed.

"And then there's the second thing... Cissy is great. She's beautiful and fun and sweet and I really like her, but..." His gaze fell to the floor. "I still keep thinking about someone else. I know she hardly knows I'm alive and she's definitely not interested. And why ruin what I have with Cissy for something unlikely? But I can't stop thinking..." Defeated, Simon threw himself backward onto Sydni's bed. "Ugh, what am I gonna do?"

At his first words, Sydni felt a bit of pity - not because he had no other friends, but because she was his only friend. She wasn't so sure she was a great friend. Clearly he was quite agitated. Even she didn't play with her stuffed animals like that. She might have snuggled with them now and then when she was most lonely, but otherwise they were really just decorations.

It was hard to follow his babbling, and some of it made her blush a bit. Way more than she needed to know about the young man sitting on her bed. And a bit disturbing since she knew that Cissy was much older than he was. Maybe not much older, but the difference was enough at their young ages.

When Simon finally stopped talking, Sydni stayed silent for a moment. Mostly, she was stunned - this was way more than she expected to hear, or be asked about. But also, she needed a moment to process all the information before she could answer him intelligently. Finally, she moved over to the bed and sat down lightly on the edge of it. "First of all, you need to figure out your feelings. It is not fair to Cissy if your heart is elsewhere." She spoke strongly on this. She knew how much broken hearts hurt. "You need to talk to this other woman and know for certain."

Pausing again, Sydni tried to grasp at the other topic - oh yes, a good date place. "As for the best date, I've always been partial to outside dates. But I don't know if she'd like it. But I think any 'secret' place is kind of cool. It's like you're sharing a piece of yourself with a person if you take them to your secret place. And you can make it really nice by packing a picnic - you don't have to cook either. Order out and pack it in a picnic basket. Bring a radio so you can dance..." Shrugging, Sydni could only think how she was probably the worst person to be asking for this kind of advice. "Do you think she'd like something like that? I don't know her at all."

Sydni was a really smart girl. Coming here had been a damn good decision. See, she was telling him things he'd known all along, things he'd told himself a dozen times. But hearing it from someone else just solidified that this was the only course of action. "You're right," he agreed. "I have to talk to Jillian." Yeah, like that would be easy. He couldn't even finish a sentence around her, let alone start a conversation like this. "I know it's pointless," he continued, "but I'll regret it forever, you know?" Sure she did. Sydni knew everything.

He contemplated Sydni's date idea, debating if it suited Cissy or not. his initial reaction was no. She was the type of girl who liked fancy, indoor stuff. The idea of sitting out in the bugs would gross her out. But then he thought again, about how Cissy wasn't really that girl and didn't want to be anymore.

"That's perfect," Simon credited Sydni. He sat up, smiling. "You're like, a genius. It's so simple. Why didn't I think of that?" Because his brain was fried, that's why. Too much thought. "Hey Syd, can I ask you a personal question? You don't have to answer if you don't want, but... was your first time... y'know, (*blush*) with someone intimately... was it special? I mean, did you plan it out, was it with someone you loved? I only ask because I'm wondering if maybe I'm freaking myself out over something that's not such a big deal."

Regret it forever... Yeah, she did know. She was having regrets about a certain someone, and she didn't know if she really wanted to rectify it or not. Or if she even could. Dammit all.

In response to his thanks, Sydni only smiled softly. "If you know how to drive a boat, you could take her out on the ocean. Or even just the beach - fewer bugs. If you go to a lake or something near dusk or after dark, it'll be murder for bugs. But daytime would probably be ok. I think it'd be more romantic at night, though. Oh, and give her flowers. Pick them yourself or buy them... I just think flowers are special, that's all." She hadn't been given flowers by anyone since Jason. Justina had never thought to, and none of her dates in between had ever brought her flowers. It was one thing that made her simply melt. Even a single flower, picked on a walk would do. It was spontaneous that way.

At his next question, Sydni blushed first, and looked a bit shocked. Trying to cover her surprise and embarrassment, she swallowed and said very carefully. "It is a big deal. To me, anyway. No, I didn't plan it out, but I did love him very much, and he loved me. I think it should always be a big deal. I don't believe in casual sex - I'll only be with someone for whom I care, and who cares for me. Only me," she added softly. Dammit, why was she getting all worked up? It was her mood undoubtedly. Making her all morose.

When Sydni mentioned a boat, Simon's face noticeably paled. "Um, I don't know how to drive a boat," he said shortly, although it was more than obvious there was more to it than that. But he didn't elaborate, just looked a little freaked out by the prospect.

"Flowers are good, though," he agreed, though his voice was still a little absent. "Very classy. And free, always a plus." Now he just had to figure out where the hell he was going to find flowers around here. He could always buy them, but then they would not be as free as he needed them to be. Also, that would dredge up another problem of what kind to get? If he picked them, there wouldn't be a choice in what he got. At a store, the endless possibilities would short out his brain.

He smiled at Sydni, whose whole voice and demeanor had changed. True she looked a little embarassed, but there was more to it. She looked, well... sad. He'd had a bad feeling that his coming here might make her depressed, since some of her friends were leaving. Now he felt bad.

Getting up from the bed, he walked over to her and gave her a quick hug. "I'm sorry about Miklos and Starbuck," he told her. "I knew you kinda hung out with them, and you seem pretty bummed about them leaving." It was only just then that he noticed she was in her PJs, and the room smelled like popcorn. "Are you throwing a pity party?" he asked teasingly. "And didn't invite me? I'm kind of offended."

Sydni would have offered to teach him, but she noticed the expression on his face. "Oh," she said with some realization, "I forgot... You probably don't like water, huh?" He was in the House of Fire, and he wasn't a were, so, duh.

Surprised at the hug, Sydni stiffened for a moment before returning the hug. Smiling softly, she was glad to help. Laughing, she shook her head. "I didn't think of it that way, but I guess so. Sorry, pity party's are a one person affair. It's in the rules," she joked. "But, would you like some popcorn as a consolation prize?"

"No, I don't like water. At all. Too many bad memories." About a million bad memories leapt to mind. Insane mothers can be cruel.

He laughed. "No, thanks, I'm good as far as snacking goes." He thought for a moment, then grabbed a modest handful of popcorn. "Okay, so I lied," he said, shoving it all in his mouth at once. Everyone knows you can't eat popcorn like a regular person- you have to stuff it in your mouth like it'll run away. Once he'd swallowed his airy snack, Simon turned attention back on Sydni. "Well, I wouldn't stay at your pity party anyway," he said, putting on his best mock-offended voice. "I have to go home and throw my own, so I can obsess needlessly about my stupid teenage problems." He wasn't lying, either. He'd be up all night thinking about it.

"Thanks for being such a good friend, Sydni," he said honestly. "I hope my lame origami was enough of an appreciative gesture." He gave her another quick hug before making his way to the door. "Oh, and thanks for letting me barge in on you all the time." Smiling, he closed the door behind him, heading off into what he knew would be a rather sleepless night.
