Week Fourteen: Wednesday
Who: Cissy and Simon
When: 6:30 and beyond
Where: The Main Hall and then town
What: Cissy takes Simon out to dinner

Cissy wasn't sure what had possessed her to offer to take Simon out but she had and now it was time to do just that. She could make an educated guess, assume that it had something to do with his having been complimentary, and probably be right about that. She liked people that paid attention to her, and the fact that he had given such compliments to her name and to how well it had suited her had certainly gotten him on her good side. Also he seemed rather cute and sweet as well. And one could never go wrong in spending a little time with a sweet, younger boy. They were so cute, after all!

Even if this was not what she would consider an actual date, she had taken no less care in getting herself ready for it. She always wanted to look her best, whether it was early in the morning, the middle of the night, or she was just going to the post to check her mail. She had to look perfect. She could and would accept nothing less.

She had selected her outfit and all of her accesories rather carefully, wanting to look cute but not overly cute. She didn't want the boy to get the wrong idea, after all. And in the end, she had ended up in a nice, grey/blue dress that she felt fit the occasion perfectly. She went with the smokey eye look, blues and greys, heavy on the eyeliner, and a small amount of clear lipgloss. Nails were manicured in a french tip, both fingers and toes, and her feet were dressed in a pair of silver sandals that helped to bring out the silver of the buckles on the dress. Hair was left down, soft and in curls smelling like champagne and glittery like diamonds, and she spent an obligatory fifteen minutes just admiring the way that her final look had turned out.

For once, she was actually on time, though that wasn't really because she wanted to be but mostly because she thought that the boy might think she had stood him up and not wait for her to arrive were she to be too terribly late. He seemed the sort that would lack that confidence. Of course when at last she arrived, he was not yet there, so she had to wait for him which was certainly a change of pace. She batted lashes and threw enticing glances to a few people that passed, but certainly she was looking forward to just taking a step away from this place for a while.

Simon had paced his room about an hour before he needed to leave. It wasn't a date, not a really real one anyway. But he still didn't know what he was going to wear. He wasn't sure where Cissy was taking him so he had no way of knowing what would be appropriate dress. He was trying his best not to think about what his mother would have suggested. She would have said something along the lines of "It is better to be over dressed than under dressed." Clearly his mother had never been a teenager herself, because either option could result in social suicide. No one went bowling in a ball gown, and no one went dancing in sweats.

After acreful consideration Simon decided on a clean pair of dark blue jeans, a light blue cotton button-down shirt and a plain black tee beneath it. Not too dressy, but not too casual. Cissy struck him as the type of girl who looked good no matter where she went. Simon did not want to degrade her by forcing her to be on the arm of a slob. Not that Simon had ever (or could ever) look sloppy. Even in the tackiest of track suits, his shy and embarassed demeanor would act as perfect apology to any fashion faux pas.

Cissy was already waiting for him in the main hall. He could have kicked himself. Why had he needed to brush his hair for the fourth time? It was straight and flat, and no amount of combing would make it any less so. What if Cissy had seen that he was late and decided that he wasn't worth it? She looked really pretty at the moment- maybe she could have just picked someone up while waiting for him and gone to dinner with them instead. It was a stupid idea to think. Simon had no reason to believe Cissy would do something so shallow and rude. She had been kind enough to invite him along and darn it, he was going to enjoy himself and be more confident.

"Hi," he said, his voice full of false bravado. "Sorry I'm late- I can't do a thing with my hair." he smiled sweetly. She didn't care about his hair troubles, he was sure. Better to switch topics. "You look very nice," he said, and sincerely meant it. "I like your shoes." He'd learned that trick from one of his female friend in Alabama. A sure wasy to prove to a woman you were paying attention was to compliment something specific about her outfit- her earrings, shoes, purse, or some other seemingly trivial accessory. He couldn't help but smile as he admired her outfit- thank God he'd decided to go with the blue button-down shirt. It was the nicest one he owned, and despite his very sharp ensemble, Cissy's was epic in comparison. Her hair smelled lovely as well, which added to her allure and striking appearance.

"Where are we going, anyway?" he asked, enjoying the scent of her hair now before it became too creepy for him to be smelling. Taking in someone's scent when you first see them is one thing- continuing to do so, no matter how delightful they smelled, was quite another. That kind of thing was reserved for the perverts on the bus.

Cissy was nothing short of outgoing, so when he appeared from out of nowhere, the greeting that she gave him was quite warm. "Simon?" She asked, a smile lighting up her features. "It's nice to meet you." She said, and then leaned forward, one hand moving up to rest upon his shoulder as she kissed his cheek lightly and then pulled away.

The remark about his hair made her laugh and she reached a hand up to touch her own hair. "I feel your pain." Of course her own hair always looked lovely no matter if she had just rolled out of bed or had spent two hours curling it to perfection. Her eyes darted down to her shoes and she smiled as the turned a toe inward. "Thank you. They're new." Everything she owned was new practically. She certainly lived above her father's means and he never said a word about it.

"So I was thinking.." She moved to hook her arm through his as she began to answer the question. "That we could go to this nice little bistro right off the ocean." She started to walk, pulling him along with her as she cast one of her most charming smiles in his direction. "You do like Italian, don't you? They have tables outside, with a perfect view of the ocean. It's lovely." And something she couldn't get in New York, which was saying something.

Simon blushed shyly. This smiley, pretty, all too happy to be with him girl was stroking his ego more than he was used to. And not only did she seem pleased to be with him, but she was older than him. Last week was Sydni, and now it was Cissy. If Simon were familiar with the term 'big pimpin', he might have applied it to his situation. For the moment he was just too darn grateful to have such lovely company for the evening. And the cherry on this sundae was that she had kissed his cheek already! Hand holding was the farthest he'd ever gotten with a girl before, and while this wasn't actually a 'date' date, he still felt pretty damn lucky.

"I don't know if I like Italian," he told Cissy honestly. "I mean I've had pizza and spaghetti and all that, but I don't think they count." He was trying to get the thick Alabama accent out of his words, but it was a lot harder than he'd expected it to be. Cissy's voice was confident and clear, and compared to her he felt like a hick from the swamp.

She hadn't commented on his outfit, which relieved him more than anything. That meant he didn't look frightful. Or maybe he did? Maybe she was the type not to say anything if you looked stupid. "Am I dressed okay for a bistro?" he asked nervously. "I don't need a jacket and tie, right?" Most bistros were like cafes, and therefore had no such dress code. But who knew what this island might expect? With his luck he'd be laughed out of the restaurant because his shoes weren't gold plated. Well, that was extreme, but the boy was nervous!

The blushing was beyond adorable. See, Cissy didn't really like younger guys. She didn't really take them seriously, of course some might say that she took no man seriously, but she did like sweet boys, and Simon certainly seemed like just that. And if she could read his thoughts, he would certainly be stroking her ego as well. She liked attention, plain and simple, no matter who it was coming from.

"Oh, sweetie, you don't know what you've been missing!" Cissy had a skill of masking any accent that she might have though that was probably due mostly to the fact that she had never stayed in one place, save New York or Chicago, for very long. So yes, she was clear and concise when she spoke, like most Northern bred people from money were, but that wasn't to say that she couldn't appreciate his accent. Again, adorable.

Cissy laughed softly at the question and shook her head. "You don't need a jacket or a tie. You look perfectly handsome the way you are, sugar." She could lay it on thick when she wanted to. She pushed the front door open and then they were outside.

"So I was thinking, that since it's such a nice night, we could just walk into town instead of taking a cab. What do you think about that?" She asked as she glanced over at him. "That will give you plenty of time to tell me all about yourself."

Cissy certainly had been laying it on thick. In fact, Simon could not remember the last time someone had been so complimentary to him. Also no one had even called him 'sugar' or 'sweetie' or anything like that. Simon had always assumed that having a girl call him pet names would grate on his nerves a bit and seem too insincere, but the way Cissy did it was, well... flattering.

"Tell you about me?" he asked nervously. He didn't mind the walk, and he told her so, but he wasn't sure what on Earth he could tell her about himself. What if the bistro was over a mile away? That could be over fifteen minutes of pure conversation! Yikes. Of course, it apparently hadn't occured to Simon that by agreeing to dinner with Cissy he would have to make conversation thoughout the meal as well.

"Well," he began as they started their stroll, "I'm from a town in Alabama called Cullman. I grew up with my mom in a house on the lake. Uh... I've never tralveled anywhere... I was in the middle of my junior year of high school before coming to Halcyon Halls." He scrunched up his face and thought about more to say. Unless asked a specific question, Simon couldn't really just 'make conversation'. Ooo! Now, though, he did have something interesting to talk about! "I'm a quarter fire nymph," he said proudly. "Just found out last week. So tell me more about you, Cissy. I imagine you're a lot more interesting to hear about." Most girls were more interesting, or at least better at telling things in such a way so they seemed more interesting. And girls always liked to talk a lot anyway.

Cissy had a way of getting by things that might annoy some people more easily than others. It was probably because everything seemed to be so sincere when it came from her, even if it wasn't. That wasn't to say that she wasn't being sincere right now. He was a cute little thing, after all, and incredibly sweet, only to say that even if she hadn't been being just that it would probably seem as though she were. It was often times quite difficult to figure out what she was thinking just for that reason.

"Well I don't see anyone else here aside from the two of us, and I already know all about myself." Obviously he hadn't given much thought to the conversastion aspect of going out to dinner with someone. And he seemed so shy about talking. Sweet. Truly. It made her smirk a little as she cast a flirty smile in the direction of someone walking by. The poor guy looked utterly confused at seeing a girl like Cissy on this boy's arm.

"You've never got to travel?" She asked, sounding completely shocked by that revelation. "Oh but it's so much fun. My father's a pilot. I've been all over the world!" And did she ever like to brag about it. "And there's something we have in common. One half fire mage." She boasted, though she left out the other half. He might not be ready to hear about that just yet. "Do you have a sweetheart back home in Alabama?" She wasn't quite ready to change the subject to herself just yet.

"A pilot!' he said, genuinely impressed. "That's got to be real fun. I've always wondered what it'd be like to cut through the clouds in an airplane." He was smiling big- he had noticed the bewildered look on the man passing by them, seeing him and Cissy arm in arm and looking somewhat envious. (Simon did miss the flirty glance Cissy shot the stranger's way, but that's no matter.) This was the first time he was getting noticed in such a way, and Simon was probably going to milk it for all it was worth.

"A fire mage?" he asked, his voice lower. He wasn't sure if everyone on the island was a supernatural being or not, and even if they were Cissy's lineage was none of their business. "So what is that exactly? Sorry for being so ignorant, but this is my first week being immersed in the supernatural world." He decided to casually ignore the question about a sweetheart back home. It was a little embarassing to admit he did not, nor had he ever, had someone he could refer to as a sweetheart.

"Mmhmm. Papa used to fly in the military too. That's how he met my mother." That was long before she was born, but she had heard stories about it. It seemed that he had really loved it and really missed it after he let it go. She was glad that he had though, for completely selfish reasons. She couldn't imagine her life without her papa in it and even though his present profession was a bit dangerous as well, it was much less dangerous than being in combat.

Cissy smiled at the whispered question, answering it without too much of a fuss so as to not make him feel silly for asking. "Basically it means that I have an innate ability to manipulate fire." She arched a brow slightly as she added, "Problem therein lies the other half. Ice demon." She laughed softly and shook her head. "Hence why I am here, to learn how to make them work together."

"Don't think you're getting away with not answering my question though." Cissy would not be deflected that easily.

Damn. Girls- they always knew what topics were sensitive to you, and therefore would not give up on them. "I don't have a girlfriend in Alabama," he said simply, hoping that would suffice. He wasn't interested in talking about his love life (probably because there wasn't one to talk about). He was more interested in talking about their shared capabiities.

"I guess I'm a fire mage too, then," he said, liking the way the word 'mage' sounded in his head. "I've been able to do it since I was born." Simon envisioned himself in an old renaissance world, draped in a midnight blue cloak with a raven perched on his shoulder. He held a long, gnarled staff with an ice blue crustal sphere on top. With the swish of his hands, he could command the use of fire, for he was the most powerful mage in all the land!

He shook his head slightly. It would be best to keep that little fantasy to himself, thank you very much. Cissy was a classy girl, and unlike Sydni, she might not appreciate a man with too many... for lack of a better word, quirks.

"So," he said, trying to sound casual about it, "a fire and ice mage. That is quite a paradox. Can I wager a guess that your supernatural abilities reflect your personality?" He was making an attempt at being flirty, and he hoped that, if he were failing miserably, Cissy would be kind to him.

It was his reluctance in answering the question that gave him away. He had never had one. That was obvious. And so a decision was made at that point in time that, before the end of their time together, she would give him something that she was certain he had never had. No, not that, something much more innocent and sweet. A kiss. "Well don't feel bad. I don't have a boyfriend back in New York either." She gave a small shrug of her shoulders and let the conversation drop there, at least on her part. He could continue it if he wished.

"Mage is a much nicer word, isn't it?" She asked, eyeing him from the corner of her eye as they walked. He seemed to lose himself in his own thoughts there for a moment. But his thinking was correct as he shook his head. She wasn't really one prone to bouts of fantasy therefore, had he mentioned his own, she would have been polite about it but probably would have thought it so very immature. But there were nothing wrong with a few quirks. It was those little things that made a person an individual and prevented them from being just like everyone else.

"Ice demon." She corrected by way of interuption. Though once he finished his statement, she stopped, her mouth gaping open as she looked at him, all wounded like. "Simon.. are you trying to insinuate that I'm a tease?" One who runs hot and then cold. She kept up the injured look just long enough for him to start tripping over words of retraction before she laughed and hooked her arm with his once more. "How very insightful. It usually takes people much longer to pick up on my tricks."

"So are you going to the fireworks tomorrow?" She asked him, rounding a corner into town. A few more blocks and they would meet their eventual destination. She had already decided that she was actually going to indulge in some pasta this evening. She would just have to be certain to make it back to Halcyon in time to work it off tonight. One could hardly sleep on things like that.

Oh, crap. He hadn't meant to call her a tease. He was just trying to be flirty. But wasn't that how it worked? Best friends called each other tramps, guys smiled sweetly and told a woman she was a tease and the next second her tongue was down his throat. The world of dating and flirting was far too manipulative. "No, I didn't mean... I was just saying you're multifaceted is all. In a good way!" It was a godsend when Cissy finally cut in, informing him that she was not offended. Simon breathed a sigh of relief. That relief was immediately replaced by confusing and a bit of intrigue. Had Cissy just admitted to being a tease? More importantly, why had she shared this information with him? This night was going to be interesting. Maybe.

Now, what had she just asked him about? Fireworks, that's right! Tomorrow was the fourth of July. "Oh, I dunno," he asid honestly. "I'll probably go because everyone else will be I guess. Fireworks are always nice." Okay, she'd thrown his teenaged hormones for a loop (and surely she loved every second of it), but he was getting back on track now.

Downtown looked about hos any downtown should look- shops, restaurants, bustling evening life. Yet Simon was still surprised as to how, well... normal everything looked. He wasn't sure what he had been expecting- maybe dragons walking the streets, fountains full of mermaids, who knows-but this place was just an everyday city. And at this time of day, supper time, it smelled more than delicious. Now he was forgetting about being on a date and focusing on the grumbling of his bottomless pit of a teenage boys' stomach.

It was cute the way that he stumbled over his words, the slightly pink color that his cheeks had turned. She certainly did enjoy sending a boy for a loop, hormonal or otherwise. "Multi-faceted." She repeated the term, mulling it over for a moment before she said with a smile, "I do believe I like that. Has a much nicer ring to it than the other." She laughed, giving him a small nudge in the side, playfully of course, just to further distract him. She was quite the professional at these games.

"I'm looking forward to them." Then again, they could be a total drag. She had seen some of the most outrageous firework displays in the country. She wondered how this would compare. "I guess, if nothing else, it's worth going to see how the supernaturals do it." If they could out do some of the ones she had seen, she would be truly impressed. "Maybe I'll see you there." Not a date, exactly, but one should never rush too soon into setting up a second engagement.

The city did seem quite normal all things considered. She didn't speak as they walked through to their eventual destination, giving him that time to take it all in. Soon, however, they turned off of the main strip and moved towards the beach, findin the restaurant with ease. Always know where you're going, even if you have to take time to plot the course in advance. "Table for two please." She said, and they were seated right away, on the patio, overlooking the ocean that lapped gracefully upon the shore.

"If you're not certain about anything on the menu, let me know." She said, opening up her own menu and scanning the items. She would be having the steamed veggies and linguini in white sauce. She could nearly taste it. And of course there would be dessert, Tiramisu, which they could split unless he insisted on having his own. But to start, a house salad and some breadsticks and raspberry tea to drink.

As a matter of fact, Simon wasn't really sure about anything on the menu. He knew what most things were (what the crap was Tiramisu?), what they would taste like, etc. What he wasn't sure about was what to order. Cissy seemed like an "image" girl- the kind of person where looks mattered more than substance, and ordering the wrong platter of something would be almost barbaric. Then again, maybe Cissy herself planned on gorging in a feast of carbohydrates and olive oil. You could never tell with women.

This brought up another panic in Simon's mind. Cissy was a modern girl, no doubt. Yet she seemed very classy, like she had fallen out of the 1920s where a girl expected to be treated like a goddess. Did she expect Simon to foot the bill? Or would his offering to pay offend her, and she'd get all Women's Lib on him? The simple solution would, of course, be to ask. But let's not get simple here! Simon let his eyes casually scan the prices listed. It was pricey, no doubt, but not as costly as he'd almost expected. He would have enough to fund the entire meal... but be broke for the rest of his life.

"Are you allergic to seafood?" he asked after a moment. "I'm thinking of the linguine in white clam sauce, but I won't get it if it'll make you sick." He was usually a pretty considerate guy, if you can consider not wanting your date to die from an allergic reaction 'considerate' and not just 'common sense'.

If there was one thing that Cissy was good at, which really she was good at many things, it was reading people. Though honestly, how difficult was it to know that this poor, sheltered little seventeen year old boy would be incredibly nervous being on a date with her? He would be insane not to be, so it was to be expected. Image was an important thing to her, yes, and each decision that she made was usually weighed very carefully before being carried out. She could recognize the look of concentration upon his face.

"I asked you out." She said, just to get that out into the open. "So I'm buying." She knew he was probably thinking about it, and the poor boy didn't look like he had much in the way of money. She had more than enough to spare, or her papa did rather. And really, he never cared if his little angel spent a bit of money on a good cause, or even a bad one.

"Aww. That is so considerate of you." She smiled and shook her head softly. "Not at all allergic. Not to anything really. So you can order whatever you would like." Young boys were so cute. Much more so than older men. They had a tendency to think of nothing but themselves. Really, it grew quite old sometimes. Maybe she needed to consider finding some cute, young lad to take her out and treat her right. Her mother always said it was nice to get them young and train them. She was quite a bit older than Cissy's papa when they met.

There is a saying- "If you can't find a good man, raise one." And if Cissy had chosen a boy to raise, Simon would have been a good choice. He was obedient, cute, smart and polite. And most importantly to the likes of girls like Cissy, he was easy to maipulate.

Though Simon was glad that Cissy was paying, because frankly he didn't have the cash for it, he still felt awkward about it. Yes it was the new age, and yes women should have the same rights as men. But in Alabama, the people were very big on tradition, and first dates were always paid for by the man. But what if there was no second date? Cissy had coyly mentioned the fireworks, but that was a group gathering and surely could not count as a date. So if this was their only date, then technically they would never have a "first" date, and therefore Simon could feel at ease about her paying for it. There! Logic solved everything.

So having eased his mind, Simon scanned the menu more closely, ignoring the price tags. He would not choose the most expensive item on the menu, that would be rude. But price would not longer be the deciding factor.

When the waiter finally asked them for their order, Simon confiedntly said he wanted linguine in white clam sauce, a small salad and sprite to drink please, and thank you very much. Grinning and proud of himself, he allowed Cissy to order for herself because she was an independent women (and besides, he had no idea what she'd want). He was going to fake confidence tonight, and maybe if he was lucky he'd get a kiss before the night was out.

That phrase was quite similar to what her mother always said. She always warned Cissy that she should stop messing around with all those older men, that they were no good for anything and they would never change. Seemed she was right. And this here and now had her perhaps reconsidering all of that, all of her previous requirements. It wasn't as though they had worked out very well thus far. It was something to consider.

Cissy had already decided upon what she wanted before the waiter had even arrived at the table. She placed her order just as confidently as she did everything else, flashed the waiter a winning smile, then turned her focus back on Simon completely once the waiter was gone from their table.

"So.." She began, a smile sparkling in her eyes. "Would you like to know my plan for the evening?" She might as well get it out there, not leave him wondering. Granted, with most men that worked in her favor, but in Simon's case, she was certain that would be quite the opposite. How much fun could he possibly be for her if he spent the entire night with sweaty palms, wondering what was going to happen.

"First, there's dinner, of course." She nodded towards the table. "And then I thought we could share some Tiramisu. And maybe I will even let you feed some to me." She arched a brow slightly as she grinned. "After, I was thinking maybe a walk along the beach, a little conversation. Then we'll head back to the school because it'll be late by then, and curfew time for you underage boys." Another smirk. "But before I let you go for the night, I fully intend on kissing you. Granted, you've not told me that you've never kissed anyone before, but I just know these things. And if any girl should be your first, I think it should be me."

Simon didn't know what to say. Hell, Simon didn't even know what to think. This was not the way they operated in Cullman! Things like first kisses were supposed to come naturally, to be a surprise, even if all of your friends knew it was coming. Although, on the plus side, it was nice to think that he would go to bed tonight knowing what it felt like to have a girl violate his personal space in one of the best ways known to man.

Suddenly, he started to laugh. It wasn't cruel, or hysterical or even a joyful one. It was a laugh full of irony. "Tongue or no tongue?" he asked Cissy, unable to keep a sassy smile off his lips. Because really, what else could you say in such a situation? All the cards were on the table already. He giggled again. "And will this be a goodnight kiss, or sloppy makeouts in the sand?" He couldn't help but picture the overdramatised french kissing you saw in bad teen movies, and the image of him and Cissy rolling over one another with their faces glued together while the surf crashed at their feet and sand crept into their pants... well, it was just absurd.

"I have to admit," he told her, raising his beverage the waiter had just placed before him before taking off again, "you're nothing like I've experienced before."

That was not exactly the reaction that she had been expecting, but she wasn't at all displeased. She had expected him to choke on his tongue, turn bright red, and stumble over his words. Perhaps he was a little different then what she had given him credit for.

She smiled slowly and then she just flat out laughed when he started to ask questions about it. "Well I dunno, Simon. That part is still up for debate." She said with a small shrug of her shoulders before she shook her head softly. "You are so not the boy that I pegged you to be. Though that's not at all a bad thing."

The remark about her being like nothing he had ever experienced brought a sharp arch to her brow as a wicked grin tugged at her lips. "You haven't experienced me yet, Sugar." She reached a hand out to grab her glass and lift it to her lips, sipping the dark liquid gingerly before placing the glass back down.

"So you're game then?" She asked, folding her hands on the table in front of her. "For the plan?" Just to clarify. She'd not insist upon it if it wasn't something he wanted but honestly, she couldn't imagine any boy not wanting to kiss her.

The whole experience was so damn surreal. Was he really sitting in a beautiful Italian bistro, chatting (and flirting!) with a gorgeous twenty one year old, discussing their first kiss? Yes, yes he was. And it was awesome.

"I'm game," he said smoothly, now wishing he'd ordered something a bit more dignified than sprite. Taking a mature sip of wine would've been the perfect cap to such a statement. Well, cest la vie. "And I suppose the rest shall unfold as we go." He grinned, knowing he was blushing terribly and not caring much at all. This had been exactly what he'd wanted- a new experience, something drastically different from his home life. Good lord, his mother would have died hearing him talk like this.

"Now that that's settled," he said coolly, though the flush was still high in his virgin cheeks, "let's find out more about one another. Feel free to ask me anything. But I shall go first- considering how pretty you are, why don't you have a boyfriend in New York?" He looked her over, hoping his question wasn't too out of line, though she didn't look as though she could be offended easily. "Is it because there's a boyfriend here?" He certainly hoped not, considering where the night would eventually lead, but you could never be certain in this day and age. And Cissy seemed to be a whirlwhind of whimsy and impulse. Maybe she did things like this all the time, despite having someone waiting at home.

The image of him sipping his wine, if he had any, would have been enough to make Cissy bust into laughter, not because it was silly but because, well, he really was much different than she had expected. Granted, he was blushing like crazy, but the fact that he hadn't ran away and still managed to keep the conversation going was definitely something. "I suppose it shall." She agreed, pale blue twinkling with mischief. This was going to be much more fun than she had originally thought.

He was playing it off so cool. That was incredibly adorable. She glanced up as the waiter came by to drop off their breadsticks and salads. She unfolded her napkin and placed it in her lap as he spoke. "Well, I don't have a boyfriend in New York, nor do I have one here." She explained, or began to rather though she doubted that really put his mind at ease. "I was involved with someone. It didn't work out. But I'm not on the rebound. Not at all. Far from it." The only boy that had ever sent her into rebound territory was Xander and that was a whole other story that there was no need to get into.

"So I take it you've never had a girlfriend?" She asked, a brow arching slightly as she reached for a breadstick. "Any girls here that have struck your fancy so far?" She broke off a piece of bread and nibbled at it gingerly. He would soon learn that she ate like bird on a diet. That was about the only way one could describe the little nibbles here and there that left her oh so very full. Yep, she was used to feeling hungry all the time.

Simon watched Cissy eat like that breadstick needed to last her a few more years. He wasn't surprised- most girls he knew back home ate like that, too. Too many women were starving themselves to edath to try and look pretty. He smiled faintly, remembering the massive amounts of meat Sydni had piled onto her plate at their shared breakfast. Now that was a girl he could relate to.

"Never had a girlfriend," he admitted coolly, although his ears turned pink and it was obvious that he was embarassed by the fact. Cissy probably had to fling boys off her left and right- there was no way she'd understand being too shy to pursue anyone. But how could he respond to her next question? He hadn't talked to enough people to really hold an interest in anyone. There was no lack for attractive girls, that much was certain. So he decided to give a half-truth. "Not sure I'd like one, either," he said. "I've got a lot on my plate right now. Besides, the only two people I've talked to so far are you and Sydni. And Sydni is a bit too old for me, I think. I doubt she'd be interested."

Unlike Cissy, Simon dug into his food with gusto. There is no stopping a teenage boy from satisfying his hunger. His salad was gone in less than two minutes, and his fair portion of the breadsticks soon followed. Despite the obvious fact that CIssy would not be partaking in her fair share, Simon still thought it'd be rude to assume she didn't want them.
