Week Twelve: Friday
When: Early evening
Where: Dublin
Who: Nat and Noah

So far this little vacation hadn’t been everything Natalia had hoped for. Now that wasn’t to say it was bad, but just not super fantastic great. Noah had been in some sort of funky mood for the first week and while he put forth an effort to play nice, it just wasn’t the same as happy Noah. So rather than giving him any time to actually fall into a true funk, Natalia drug him all over Dublin and when they ran out of stuff to see, she drug him up and down the coasts.

But even with the new were stamina, Nat was no super woman and so by the middle of the week she was ready to just relax and enjoy their final days there. Maybe all of the running around had been able to snap him out of whatever it was he was dealing with? Yeah, that’d be nice. If not then maybe she could smack him around a little until he was better? Oo, there’s an idea. Fortunately no beating was required and they spent their last couple of days just bumming around and being lazy.

After breakfast on their last full day there, it was decided that Natalia was going to go off and do some last minute shopping while Noah got to enjoy some time alone to do whatever he wanted (probably sleep) and that they would meet up at one of the local pubs for dinner and drinks. So with her trusty credit card in hand, she set off to put a major dent in her bank account. And oh was it worth it!

There were bags on top of bags in her hands when she was finally done and she questioned how she was going to get it all back to her room when some very nice and super cute Irishman offered his assistance. Oh how she loved this country, heh. After a few blocks of flirting and an invitation to grab a drink later, the bags were finally deposited and she had just enough time to change and meet Noah before she was super late.

Her cheeks were flushed and her hair was windblown as she practically ran inside of the pub. “Hola, mijo! Sorry I am late, but you wouldn’t believe the sales I found!”

Unfortunately Noah had to agree that this vacation wasn't all that it could have possibly been. But then again once upon a time a few weeks ago Noah had thought it could be a lot more. But that had been stupid and Noah knew it. The events of the past few weeks had just handily reminded him of that fact loud and clear. James. Summer. The fates were doing their damn best to make sure he stayed just as he was for the time being. Aka without any significant other.

Probably for the best when he thought about it. Something he hadn't been able to stop doing since the minute he knew that Summer was at Halcyon. That had been the main reason for the funk in his mood.

Noah knew that it was putting a bit of a crimp in Nat's plans for the trip. He was trying his damn best to be a good sport about all of it and Ireland was a fantastic place to visit. He just couldn't help the fact that his head space... was all sorts of fucked up right now. There was no forgetting his conversation with Summer. It managed to bring up every single one of his inner demons and lay them out to wreck havoc on his vacation. And no he couldn't talk about it with Nat. That would have been far too simple and direct a method to deal with the problem. But really... could it have solved anything? Noah sure as hell didn't think so. His demons were his demons and all he knew was that there wasn't a blackest chance in hell of them going away anytime soon.

Pessimism was his friend apparently.

She'd left him to his own devices for the majority of the day. He didn't but that didn't mean he did much with it. He'd wandered around the city for a while. Picked up the last few souvenirs that he needed for his mom and sister and then parked his ass in the pub that Nat had instructed him to meet her at. He was early, but he was getting into the whole real football thing as he was often told by the irish guys in the pub. His football was all sorts of wrong.

A pint or two or maybe three gone, he had been there a while and he finally spotted Nat. She looked gorgeous as always and it always hit him straight in the gut. Even more so now that he could remember what had almost happened between them despite his better judgment. Noah gave Nat a lopsided sort of grin. "Not late at all, I was just here early," He said as he fingered his half finished pint glass. "And I would believe it you find them everywhere. Did you buy an extra suitcase as well?" Noah asked as he pulled the seat next to him out for her. "What do you want to drink?"

If Nat had been a mind reader, she would have smacked some sense into him. Summer was nothing but trouble and a giant bitch. Okay maybe that was a little harsh but she hadn't exactly made the greatest first impression and until she apologized, Nat was going to be perfectly fine with not liking her. At all. Not even a little. Want to know what else she didn't like? The fact that Noah hadn't mentioned dating her at all. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but she just didn't like that fact at all. Hmm.

"Okay, bueno." Nat hated being late and was usually pretty punctual but oh those sales! They just sucked her right in and let time get away from her. Pale eyes glanced down at the soon to be empty pint glass and she smirked. "Getting a head start, mijo?" His cheeks did look a little flushed. Just how many of those had he already had?

A sly grin turned the corners of her lips and she looked away almost guiltily. "Maybe." It wasn't her fault that the suitcase she had brought with her was too small! Besides, an extra suitcase just for their purchases would not only keep them more organized, but would help keep things from getting broken or messed up, so really she was doing everyone a favor. "Does it count even if it is a smallish one?" A sheepish grin was flashed as she batted her eyes at him. There was no way he could give her crap if she just sat there and looked cute, right?

"Hmm. I think I will have a pint of...whatever you are having." Another grin as she got settled and set her purse off to the side. "Gracias." While Noah wandered off to get them a fresh round, Nat snatched up one of the little bar menus and started browsing the food options. With all of her shopping she hadn't stopped to eat and now she was starving! Fortunately one of the barmaids seemed to pick up on her hunger and wandered over to grab her order. After picking almost one of everything on the menu (What? Noah was a bottomless pit too!), she hummed quietly to herself and smiled again when Noah returned.

"You are a peach! Gracias!" The pint was taken and brought to her lips so that she could take a nice, slow sip. "So, are you excited to be getting back to the school?" It wasn't like he had been all happy happy joy during their trip so maybe he just really wanted to get back and...see that blond cow uh...Summer.

Noah wished it was all as simple as smacking some sense into him. But unfortunately for everyone involved it wasn't. Summer wasn't a bad person, Noah knew that for a fact. She had her pride and truly she had no problem speaking her mind. But while Nat could see those things as just being bitchy... it could also be an attractive feature. Granted not when it involved Nat, and not that it mattered at all anymore. The only point that remained was that the whole situation was complicated. And complicated fucking sucked.

"Well I think I needed a few to help get into football right?" He leaned back in his chair and held his glass up to a few of the guys who had been giving him all the info on their favorite team that was currently playing. The men seated there responded in kind, holding up their own drinks. While Noah didn't like to drink particularly, well didn't like to drink to excess, it had been surprisingly easy to make it through the few drinks while he'd been waiting. Next one would be the last. "But don't worry, I'll let you catch up." Such a nice guy he was.

All Noah could do was shake his head at her. It didnt surprise him in the slightest that a new suitcase would be making its way home with them. Hell, he was just shocked she'd waited until the last day before needing it. It was just her and he loved her for it and wouldn't mind a bit carrying that extra suitcase. Though he did have to give her some shit for it. Clearly. "Get whatever size you want, you're carrying it." Noah teased as he pushed up from the table to go and get the next round of drinks. They both knew he wouldn't let her lug an extra bag around. Just like he wasn't going to make her pay for drinks their last night out in Dublin.

It didn't take him too long to get the drinks. He'd been at the pub long enough that the bartender remembered what he'd been ordering and quickly filled two glasses. They were brought over just as Nat finished ordering. He didn't even raise an eyebrow. He knew he'd eat whatever she didn't. Bottomless pit that he was. What he did raise an eyebrow at was being called peach. "I'm a what? Really Nat?" He said with a laugh as he plunked down her glass and then his own. Noah sunk down into the well worn seat and simply shrugged his shoulders. "Eh. are you?" Yes, Noah was clearly a man of many words when it came to that topic right about now.

So many words that he was just parched and had to take a nice long sip of his beer. Looooong sip.

"Football? Oh, soccer?" Growing up the whole American football thing had confused her and at the start of the first game she had ever seen, she couldn't understand why the guys needed so much padding. Of course then she figured it all out and everything but her family was a soccer family all the way and yeah. Whatever. "It is about time you got interested in a real sport," she replied with a teasing grin before sending a wink toward the guys Noah had motioned to. "You are too sweet mijo, really." If she started trying to play catch-up before she ate though Noah would end up carrying her drunk ass back to their room.

And for the record, Nat chose to ignore the carrying it herself comment. What good was having a buff best friend if not to use him for a pack mule? Exactly.

"A peach," she repeated with a smirk. "Or el melocotón if you like how it sounds better in Spanish." Actually, that was kind of sexy. "I bet I could get one of those guys to teach me how to say it in Gaelic too if you wanted." Yeah so now she was being a little bit of a brat but she was doing it out of love. Besides, after being a bit of a butt all week he deserved a little teasing.

Her pale eyes narrowed slightly as he suddenly became parched and she caught right on to the fact that he was avoiding her question. Oh hell no, he wasn't getting out of answering that easily. "Yes and no. There are some I would like to see and some I would rather not." Like James and Summer. Blech. "Thirsty mijo?" Busted! "Or are you just embarrassed to admit that there is a certain someone there you are anxious to see?" Ha, now she was just baiting him. "Or maybe you are tired of me already and need a break?"

Cue the bottom lip coming out as she pouted a bit and gave him the sad puppy eyes. One way or another she was going to make him talk!

Noah held a finger up to his lips as she said the s-word. "I wouldn't call it that if I were you." He said with a laugh. Okay so maybe the drink was helping his spirits a little bit. At least he wasn't being Mr. Silent brooding like he had been for a few too many portions of their vacation so far. That was something wasn't it? His smile turned to a look of pain. "Real sport. Harsh Nat, way harsh!" Talking smack about his beloved sport. She was in a truly cruel mood! Though he would probably forgive her.

"Stick with it in spanish since I haven't learned that word yet." Noah said with a nod of his head. Though even if he did know that word it would probably be okay because it was kind of sexy. Then again a lot of what she said with that roll of her tongue found its way to the sexy category. Had something to do with the packaging as much as it did the accent. Focusing! "Yeah I bet you could. I'm not sleeping in the lobby." Noah warned with a sharp arch of his brow. Okay so maybe he took that a bit far but he was just throwing that out there. He was not sleeping anywhere but his bed the night before a flight. He was too tall to be all that comfortable on a plane.

Noah swallowed slowly as Natalia spoke. Some she would like to see and some she wouldn't... that wouldn't category seemed a bit too full at the moment and he wished he could do something about that. Aside from killing James which unfortunately really wasn't an option... they were both shit out of luck. Noah ignored her question about whether or not he was thirsty. Just kept right on moving. "I'm not embarrassed about wanting to see anyone." Noah's brow furrowed slightly. "Who the hell would I want to see?" That part confused him. She was the one forever trying to set him up.

Noah's head tilted to the side and he gave Nat an incredulous look. "I don't think so Nat and you know it. So don't even try the pout. Just... kind of liked being away from everything at the school. I mean I know we can't leave yet. But the break was nice." There, that was a nice long sentence.

"Hey, soccer is your American word. I grew up calling it football." So really if they were going to give anyone crap it was Noah. Besides, Nat was far too cute for anyone to stay mad at her for long, or that was what she liked to believe anyway. "What, you disagree? How much skill is needed to jump on people? At least real football requires much coordination." She was, of course, just giving him a hard time and in reality really respected the talent that he had when he played. Well that and the uniforms were better because hello tight pants!

"There are many words you have not learned, mijo." Oh if he only had the slightest clue in hell what she had been saying to him over the years. Oh well. "Noah Pierce!" she gasped with wide eyes. "You behave." Pfft, like Nat would just sleep with some random stranger! Who did he think she was? In fact, that earned him a swat on the arm. "The only person I am sleeping with tonight is you." Hmm, that came out wrong. "You know what I mean," she quickly added.

Wait, killing James wasn't an option? Dammit. What about hurting him really, really bad? On accident of course. "Maybe...Summer," she said before quickly taking a loooong sip of her own. Noah hadn't mentioned the blond once during there entire trip and was all broody so he couldn't blame her for maybe thinking he was sad to be away or something.

Her nose wrinkled and she made a face when he called her out on the pouting. More than anything she hated when her pout failed her. "Okay, okay," she said as she held her hands up in mock surrender. "Though I am surprised you noticed that it was nice. You've been pretty distracted." No time better than to start some sort of fight with Noah than their last night there! Better than day two or something, right? "So you want to tell me why you have been so broody lately?"

She really pulled that cute card way too often. Granted it sure as hell worked. At least with Noah it did and it wasn't just that she was cute, it was more just that he knew Nat and didn't want to be mad at her for any extended period of time. Life just wasn't right when that was the case. "Clearly I spent all those years just 'jumping on people'" Noah replied sardonically, complete with air quotes. "Besides since when did you pay attention to anything beside the 'cute butts'." More air quotes was needed there since Noah hadn't really cared what his teammates asses looked like in their pants. That was all Nat's area thankyouverymuch.

"I know there's a whole damn dictionary I don't know." And he really was slow to pick it up. Give him a playbook to memorize and he was all over it. Vocab... and it was like pulling teeth. Noah's lips broadened into a grin. "What? Just laying that out there, making sure we were clear." He said moving his arm away after the expected swat. He really didn't think Nat was the sort to do that, he knew her far too well for that. Nevermind the fact that jealousy would probably eat him alive if that was ever the case. He didn't even want to go there. But speaking of that... "Do I? I'm not putting out alright. You're just going to have to deal." He said teasingly. Though there was always that undercurrent... nevermind.

Noah's hand stilled as it was on it's way back up to his mouth. Well shit. Not that he was surprised that she didn't really want to see Summer when they returned he'd just wished... well he didn't even know what he wished just that it was all different. "I know. I'm sorry." Noah said. Sorry felt like it was the only thing he was able to say anymore. It didn't do shit though which was the most frustrating thing of all. He slid a glance over at Nat. "I haven't been broody... just things have been complicated lately. Come on, I mean you know with James and yeah with Summer. I really didn't expect to see her. I really am sorry she was such a bitch to you. I tried talking to her and I don't know..." he trailed off with a shrug of his shoulders and another sip of his drink.

Noah Pierce officially sucked at feelings chats.

Natalia smirked. "I paid a lot of attention thank you very much." Really now, he didn't honestly think she went to every game just to look at a bunch of nice asses, did he? Sure that was part of the reason, but she had honestly paid attention to Noah and how well he did. "I not only know all of your stats, but I have been constructing a scrapbook of your football days since the Pee Wee league." So there, and yes, that meant his college days too. She just made sure that James never saw it. "I know your total yards, both rushing and passing, touchdowns, and even the number of minutes you played in each game. So there." And yes, she stuck out her tongue. Nat had tried to tell him that she was his biggest fan, but did he listen? Noooo.

"Maybe if you studied some you would learn more," she teased. In reality Nat understood that languages just didn't come easily for Noah. A lot of people tended to struggle with them and she was grateful that she had grown up in a bilingual family. "Aww mijo! But it's our last night here!" Another pout graced her lips as a wicked glint appeared in the depths of her eyes. "You're no fun."

As soon as he started defended Summer, her smile faded into a frown. "Do not apologize for her, mijo. She is a big girl and chose to be rude." Stupid evil skank. Regardless of the fact that she was Noah's ex, Nat still would have been nice to her. At the mention of James, her gaze fell to her hands. She couldn't help but feel concerned about him since it was obvious that he was upset with her. She just hoped that he would lose his temper or do anything stupid because of it.

"You talked to her?" Well now that perked her right up. "What don't you know?" Nat leaned in a little and reached for his hand. "Maybe I can translate girl speak for you?" she asked with a little bit of a grin. Come on, having a female as a best friend had to be good for something.

Noah had to admit it, he looked a little flabbergasted that she actually had kept that much information about his play. He didn't actually think she just went to the games to take a look at tushes... but he also hadn't thought that she'd really wanted to know that many details about the game. Not many people did that weren't really into the sport. He looked over at her oddly for a moment, brows pulled together as he tried to fit the new information into his mind. "You have?" He couldn't help but ask. He would want to see that scrapbook, well it might be kind of embarrassing but yeah. His mom would love it. Noah scooched his chair around the table toward her chair. He slung an arm around her shoulder and gave her a side hug of sorts. "I didn't realize... Thanks Nat. I'll never say you weren't paying attention again." With his free hand he made a little cross gesture over his chest accompanied by a lopsided grin.

"Yeah yeah yeah, studying." Noah waved that whole idea off with his hand. He was on vacation and wasn't about to think about books and studying and all that. Especially not when there were far more weighty things that kept his attention directed far from school. Well the academic part of school that is. Noah did his best to resist the urge to roll his eyes. "Uh-huh. I'm sure you're crushed."

Of course all the fun of a vacation couldn't last in the face of Noah's big mouth. Or maybe it was the fact that Nat just had to ask why. Though she was his best friend and if she didn't ask that would probably be worse. "I'm not apologizing for her." He tried to clarify but he was fairly certain he was in a no-win situation. "I was just trying to explain... she... I think I talked a lot about you while we were together. I guess she felt like there was a standard that she couldn't ever reach... I don't know." He tried to put it into words with a shrug of his shoulders. Yeah he sucked at this.

Noah looked over confusion clear on his face. "Girl speak for what? It's not that. I just don't know what to think of it all. She's angry at me and she has ever right to be. You know me... I just want to fix it all but there's nothing that I can do so..." His shoulders shrugged helplessly again. He hated everything about the situation.

"Don't look so surprised, mijo. You know I like to scrapbook." And please, his mom knew all about the scrapbook. Who else would she have gotten some choice practice and game photographs from? Mama Pierce and Nat were tight like woah, come on now! Oh if Noah only knew the stories that Nat had heard. God she loved that woman! Heh. "Oh there's no need to thank me, I was planning on selling it when you became famous." Okay she totally wouldn't but she would bring it with her on any interviews! Hee.

"Oh but I am. Isn't that what you're supposed to do on vacation? What happens in Dublin stays in Dublin?" Another laugh. The thought alone was pretty amusing, especially after everything that had happened in the past. Nah, she'd stick to sightseeing and shopping thanks. Oo especially shopping. Briefly she wondered if she would have enough time to hit that one store again before they had to leave for their flight. Hmm.

Nat's brow rose as he spoke and she shook her head. "Of course you talked about me, we're best friends." Seriously? Duh. "If she was that worried about me then obviously she was far too insecure to ever have a serious relationship with you." Besides, it wasn't like Nat never talked about Noah when she moved to NYC. Okay maybe that stopped once James started to get "jealous" but she still talked about him to her friends.

"Aww poor my Noah," she said as she gave his arm a squeeze. "The only way I think you will make it better is if you dump me as a friend and focus only on her because it is obvious she isn't over you yet." With all that resentment she had to still be holding a torch for Noah otherwise she would have been able to just let it go. "And since that is out of the question I think you just need to let her suffer until she gets over herself." Yep, sounded like a good plan to her.

A few minutes later their food arrived and Nat made no hesitation to beat Noah to the punch and dove right in. The Irish sure knew how to cook, that was for damn sure.

"Liking to do it for your own pictures is one thing," Noah tossed back in defense of his surprise. And well that whole in cahoots thing with his mom did throw him a bit. He really should have known better than to think they hadn't done something like that. Noah knew his mom had kept all his pictures from his childhood tucked away somewhere. So it was probably only natural that they'd teamed up to catalog his little kid dorkiness for posterity. Noah arched a brow and looked over at Nat with a shake of his head. "Well looks like you won't be making any money off all your hard work." he said a bit sarcastically. Sarcastic was easier than the fact that he was still bitter about his career.

"Wrong city." Noah immediately replied. "Because I plan on telling my mother and sister in detail about what we've done here and unless you want to shock the hell out of my mother..." Noah warned with a laugh. No way in hell he'd ever tell them any of those details no matter who was involved. Pass.

Noah just looked at Nat. He didn't know what to say. He'd talked about Nat constantly because he had still been in love with her. Though even thinking about that in past tense wasn't the truth but that was a whole other matter. Summer had every reason to not like to even hear Nat's name. "I know we are and of course..." Noah angled his head to the side slightly and looked her in the eyes. "And you can tell me how talking about me went over with James." Probably a low blow and not entirely the same thing, but there was a point in there. Somewhere.

He glanced down at her hand as it squeezed his arm and frowned slightly. "I think she's over me." Noah didn't know how she couldn't be personally but then again he had a confused view on the whole thing. "Nat... I wasn't a very good boyfriend to her alright. I got jealous and it wasn't a pretty thing. I don't like that fact and I don't like anything about it. I don't want her to suffer anymore." Obviously that word didn't sit well with Noah at the moment.

Thank god for the food distraction. Though he didn't really have the stomach to eat at the moment. Well he could shove a spoonful or two in there.

At the sound of the tone his comment carried, her face fell. "I am sorry, mijo." Nat had only been teasing him, she hadn't meant to rub the end of his career in his face. Her heart ached for the fact that he had to give up his dream and the game that he loved. It just wasn't fair, he hadn't deserved to have that taken away from him.

"Oh please, your mother would be thrilled." Nat instantly regretted that comment and instead turned to her beer. Once upon a time maybe his mother had told Nat that she could wear her wedding dress and maybe Nat had been excited but that was like a lifetime ago and didn't matter now. They were just friends, best friends and that was all that they'd ever be and all that mattered. It had taken a lot of time, but she had eventually accepted that fact.

The spark in her eyes faded the moment he mentioned James and her gaze fell to the table. "That's not fair," she replied softly. James had been fine with knowing that Nat had a male best friend on the west coast at first and it wasn't she had returned from going home for summer break that he bloodied her nose at the mention of Noah's name. But fine, point made.

"Why are you beating yourself up over a little jealousy? Everyone get's jealous at some point in there lives." Sure James took that jealousy to an extreme but there was also possessiveness fueling that fire. Oh and the fact that he was crazy, but that was probably her fault somehow too. Whatever, he could blame her all he wanted as long as he left Noah alone. She had dealt with it before in the past and she could deal with it now. "I don't see how you can prevent her from "suffering," because you aren't with her now so any of that on her part is on her. You can't stop existing and you can't leave the school and you aren't allowed to stop being my best friend." There was no way she was going to let Noah put this all on himself when Summer obviously had some issues of her own to contribute.

Nat's appetite wasn't as strong as it was before, but shoveling in the food kept her mouth and hands busy and that was good enough for her. She didn't like "fighting" or "disagreeing" or whatever it was that she was doing with Noah and it wasn't how she wanted to end their vacation. At the same time, it had been building for so long that these things needed to be said or their return to the school was just going to get worse later.

"If you want me to stay away from her when we get back I will, but it would be for you, not her."

Noah shook off her concern, putting a small smile on his lips. "Don't be sorry Nat. Really. It's fine." And part of it was. He hadn't ever enjoyed the limelight. He had enjoyed the game though and knowing that he might be able to provide for his mom and sister. That was nice... and now he didn't have a clue. But they were all worries for another day.

"Not with the details she wouldn't be." Noah replied but was already ready to drop the whole conversation. He had managed to stick his foot in it already and push toward an area that was distinctly uncomfortable, for him at least. He never had been able to read women well enough to tell... even with Natalia. Or maybe he just had his own set of blinders up when it came to that subject.

It was Noah's turn to apologize and he did so swiftly. "I'm sorry Nat. I know it's not..." He began before leaning forward to reach for her hand, curling his larger hand around hers. "I shouldn't have used that analogy but... maybe it's fitting in some fucked up way." And that was cryptic enough to not make a damn bit of sense and Noah really didn't want to explain. But he knew he couldn't get away with that. Not with Nat. "I don't really want to talk about this here." Noah finally finished. Not in a public place, even if they didn't know a single other soul. "If I say can it just all wait until we get back to Halcyon...?" He asked with a slightly hopeful expression on his face, but didn't bet that it would work.

All of it was too tied up and too messy. Why he was torn up over a bit of jealousy. Why he didn't want to talk about any of it with Nat of all people. Stupid as it was. It was messy enough to take away all his hunger. He was just going to be finishing off that beer and waiting to pay. Maybe a doggie bag for later. Did they do doggie bags in Ireland? Hell if Noah knew. He'd play the part of dumb American tourist if they didn't.

Before Nat was even finished eating, Noah was digging some euros out of his pocket and getting it all together to make sure everything was covered.

It wasn't fine, but that was a discussion for another day. Maybe after some more time had past and they had dealt with their new demons.

Yeah, Nat really had no idea how bringing up James connected anything. Maybe if she had known a few more details she could have pieced it all together but Noah wasn't exactly the helpful type when it came to his issues. Hmm, maybe he should just write them all down and email them to her or something? At least that way she could have a little something to work with and he wouldn't have to try and do it face to face? Eh, just a thought.

To be honest, Nat really didn't like the idea of putting things off until they got back but the desperate look in his eyes made her cave. "Fine." What the hell was he hiding that he was getting so freaked out about talking to her? It kind of made her like Summer a little, okay, a lot less. What had that girl done to him? Yes, it had to be her fault since Natalia refused to believe that Noah could have done anything truly terrible. Just wasn't possible, nope.

She was really sad that she couldn't quite enjoy the food like she had wanted to and talk about feeling rushed when Noah started pulling out money. "Excuse me," she called to the bartender who just happened to be down their way. "Would it be possible to get a container to take the food back with us? I am just so full but I know I will be hungry later." A coy smile and a bat of her eyes were offered up as some incentive just in case they didn't normally do anything like that. Fortunately something was in their favor and their food was packed up and ready to go.

As Noah was taking care of the check, Nat grabbed the food and her purse and moved to stand outside. Part of her wanted to be stubborn and just head back without him but she figured some uncomfortable silence on the way back would bother him even more. The B&B they were staying at was only a few blocks from the pub and Nat made sure to just keep on walking at a fairly brisk pace so that there wouldn't be any room for apologies or small talk. Noah seemed to be continually keeping things from her and it was really starting to bug.

Once they were inside of their room, the food was set aside and her jacket was pulled off and tossed onto her suitcase. "I am going to take a bath," she announced right before disappearing into the bathroom and closing the door behind her. The hot water and bubbles were somewhat therapeutic but she still couldn't help but feel somewhat irritated with him. Why did boys have to be such a pain when it came to talking about their problems? It was ridiculous really.

When she finally decided she had spent enough time soaking, she moved to stand when she realized that there was a distinct lack of towels for some reason. Well, crap. "Noahhhhhhh," she called out. "Did you use the last of the towels?"

That was the whole problem. Noah knew he wasn't helpful, he knew that talking to him could be like pulling teeth. He didn't exactly like that part about himself but he held a healthy dose of shame in him that did a fantastic job of holding it all in, stopped up like a bottle of champagne that was bound to explode. Everywhere. It was starting to feel like that bottle was about to be opened whether or not Noah liked it.

He hadn't actually thought she would agree to wait, that had been a last ditch effort to at least put the conversation off until they weren't sitting in the middle of the pub. Surprise clearly showed on his face at her fine. Though he wasn't as stupid as he often acted. He knew that fine. That fine was anything but fine. That fine was pissed off or at least irritated with him for his constant desire to push things off as long as humanly possible.

Noah just raked his hands through his hair and dug up the money to pay for the food that Natalia managed so handily to get put into doggy bags for the evening. He knew he was up shit creek with Nat. The whole walk back to the B&B made that abundantly clear so that even if he hadn't already figured that out... He kept pace alongside of her, or maybe half a step behind her. Putting his thoughts together. He wanted to not be such a dick and say everything he should but opening his mouth, or rather opening up his personal pandoras box of crap was harder than it seemed.

When they made it into their room he was almost ready to start, he was working on those first words... but he was cut off unceremoniously by Nat's announcement that she was going to take a bath. Way to go Pierce. Noah sunk down on to the bed and found the clicker. Channels were surfed through, but nothing was watched. Eventually he found himself just laying staring at the ceiling. Productive.

His silent revere was ended in a heartbeat by Nat's voice from the bathroom where all those obnoxiously tempting sounds of bubbles and sloshing water had ceased. It was his name followed by the... fuck him was that a request for a towel. He pulled himself up into a sitting position, feet landing loudly on the floor. "I don't remember using the last towel," he replied loud enough to be heard through the door. He wasn't saint enough to be able to get that close to the door with her wet and naked behind it. "I'll uh... should I see if there's a linen closet in the hall or maybe that lady is still around..." Noah searched for ideas to solve the predicament. "Just a sec."

He disappeared into the hallway but came up empty handed. He didn't know where in the hell they kept the extra towels and the nice little Irish lady was nowhere to be found. The world was conspiring against him. A quick glance around the room gave him one last option. "Can you make do with my robe that I never used and you packed anyway?" He asked pulling the terrycloth free from his suitcase and walking toward the door.

Unfortunately for Noah, the bath hadn't really soothed or calmed her down much. All it did was give her some time alone to sit and stew for a while longer. She couldn't say she was surprised that Noah had put off yet another important talk between them because she wasn't. This had been something he had been doing for as long as she could remember but that didn't make it suck any less. Maybe if she let him sweat it out for a while he would suck it up and talk to her? She wasn't going to hold her breath.

The answer that came through the door caused a sigh to part her lips and she might have even glared at him a little bit. Not that he could see it, but it at least made her feel better. Just because he didn't remember using it didn't mean that he didn't. Men! Sheesh. "Okay...thanks." Yes, her tone was slightly irritated as she stood there with water dripping down her. It was starting to get a bit chilly.

While Noah was off running around, Nat let out another sigh and reached for one of the hand towels that was sitting on the sink. Well, she could at least get some of the water off with that. She dabbed at all of the tiny droplets that clung to her skin and looked up when she finally heard Noah again. Except that she didn't understand him. This whole talking through a wall thing just wasn't working for her.

"What?" she asked as she pulled open the door. No she wasn't standing there in all her glory! Her body was hidden behind the door and she was only visible from the shoulders up. When her eyes fell onto the robe she reached out for it, and quickly pulled inside. Unfortunately Noah didn't let go quick enough and she had underestimated her own strength and ended up pulling him right into the bathroom with her. With Noah coming through the door, she lost her balance and fell back, her ass hitting the floor and causing her to groan. Fortunately! The robe had spread out blanket style and provided a thin barrier between them.

"Sorry..." Thank God she had some junk in the trunk or her ass would seriously be hurting right now. "You can get off me now."

It was like some fucked up cycle. It just kept adding to itself. Every time he put off a conversation that was hard to have, it just got harder to have it the next time and by extension it was easier to put off. It wasn't how Noah had envisioned things going with his best friend but it was how they had ended up. Sometimes he just thought he wasn't strong enough a man to put a stop to it all. Not like that made him want to open his mouth anymore.

He didn't like having to lay out a reality that he hated to someone he cared about. Part of him... well part of him liked that she didn't see him as he saw himself. It was nice. Probably selfish on his part but nice just the same.

Though at the moment, he was pretty certain she wasn't viewing him in any sort of flattering light. That was painfully clear by the edge that was in her voice. Crap. He attempted to make up for it by at least finding the robe quickly. Not quickly enough it seemed or he didn't even know what to think because the bathroom door was opening and what the hell was she doing opening the door when she didn't even have a freaking towel. Jesus woman.

She was grabbing the towel before he realized he was standing there like an idiot. And Noah standing around like an idiot only spelled disaster. In this case, falling on naked best friend kind of disaster. How in the hell had that even happened? Noah hadn't had that much to drink. He tried never to have that much to drink. But he sure as hell had been distracted all day long for whatever that was worth. Was that a groan he just heard? Mind this is gutter, nice to meet you.

Noah blinked for a moment as he heard her say sorry and then added a you can get off me to that. He didn't react right away, the set of fantastic curves that were barely concealed beneath his body had something to do with that. "What? Why?" And then it donned on him exactly what had come out of his mouth and he scrambled to get his palms on the floor. The floor that she'd managed to get all sorts of wet standing there dripping wet... and there went the gutter again. Damnit. "Er... yeah sorry, you alright? You-er.. it's wet." Not the best word to use considering where it helped his mind go. But he was doing his best to bring it back to the present. Nat was pissed at him and he'd pinned her to the ground. Get up Pierce for Christ's sake.

Maybe it wouldn't be a cycle if he oh..broke it and came clean. Just saying. And he didn't know that his confession would change the way she looked at him. Maybe it would just make him a little more human, a little more reachable? If he wasn't up there on his pedestal then maybe she would be able to get to him? Just a thought though.

Okay for the record, she was hiding behind the door so the whole towel thing really wasn't an issue until he didn't let go of the robe. That is all, moving on.

Natalia's brow furrowed as she looked at him with some confusion dancing in her eyes when he asked why he should get off of her. Huh? "Because you are squishing me." It would be one thing if he had been bracing himself against the floor and holding his weight but falling flat on her wasn't the most comfortable thing. Not only that, but a hard tile floor as opposed to carpet or a bed? (She wasn't thinking about being under him in a bed. Really.) Well it sucked.

Why was he having so much trouble trying to get up? The floor wasn't that wet. "I'd be better if your knee wasn't digging into my thigh," she grumbled as she squirmed underneath him. If she could only..."There." Somehow she had managed to slid her legs out from under him which essentially put him in between her legs. Yeah, now that was kind of inappropriate.

"Maybe if you roll off or slide down me," she said as she turned her head to look at him...which brought them nose to nose. Hi Noah!

That was the thing with cycles... duh. They weren't so easy to break. Or maybe Noah lacked the balls to do it. He was betting on a combo of the two. How stupid did he feel never coming entirely clean in all the years that he had been friends with Nat. That wasn't even the half of it though, mostly it was the fact of talking about it meant he had to really face it. And face the fact that he was almost certain he was just like his father.

He really didn't have the balls to do that.

His mind was entirely chaos. Had the whole, hot girl beneath him at war with the fact that he knew it was Nat and he knew that it was the last place he had any business being thinking the things his mind was thinking. Noah shook his head doing his damn best to shake the confusion right out. "Sorry." He said trying to find a bit of tile that wasn't so damp. She wasn't making it particularly easy on him though, not with the squirming.

"Nat!" Noah finally said finding enough purchase to get his upper body pushed up and away from her. "Just stop moving alright." He got out forcing himself to think about baseball and other non-sexual things. He pushed himself back onto his knees and sat back, willing himself not to look down because he knew exactly what he was going to see and it was going to do nothing for his mental status. "Sorry. You really should have checked for towels before you got in the bath. Christ." He raked a hand through his hair and jumped up to his feet rapidly. Yeah he was a little short and he knew it, but it was either that or he was going to feel like a middle school boy holding a binder in front of his junk when he got his first boner in class.

Nat was only squirming because he was pining her to a hard tile floor! A hard, wet and now cold, tile floor. He wouldn't exactly be stoked to be in her position if things had been reversed. Or maybe he would? Who knew. Wait, was he yelling at her now? About towels?! He was the one who should have said something or asked for more once he had used the last one! Oh hell no.

Letting her temper get the best of her wasn't something she liked to let happen, but after being scolded for not checking the towel situation it was on. It was bad enough that he was keeping things from her and spending their vacation brooding but there was no way he was going to get away with being a complete ass on top of it. It was time for Natalia to lay the smack down on his ass.

She waited until he had vacated the bathroom to push herself up and wrap the robe around her body. A good choice would have been to stay in there and cool down a bit but she was already too pissed to even consider that an option. The door was thrown open as she stormed out and a string of Spanish leapt from her lips as she moved over to her suitcase. Even if Noah had been fluent in the language there was no way he would have been able to keep up with what she was saying.

Her clothes were yanked out of her bag as she continued ranting, a few glares sent his way as she pulled on some underwear up under the robe. A few choice hand gestures were also flailed about and she continued on even as she turned her back to him and let the robe fall away. She was too irritated to even think about being modest or any of that other nonsense. A tank top was pulled on a moment later and she turned to face him, another scowl twisting her features.

"Comprende?!?" Yeah, he was in trouble.

He was in the shit. Deep in the shit. Deep Deep Deep in the shit. Noah knew it the instant he had walked out of the bathroom. Actually he'd known it the second that he'd opened his stupid mouth long ago. But that hadn't stopped the stupid portion of his brain from taking over. Nope, not at all. But it hadn't been until the string of Spanish had started flying around the room that he'd known just how deep in the shit he was. He needed more than a shovel to get him out of this. Maybe a bulldozer would help.

While she ranted in words that Noah didn't even begin to understand he wandered over to the bed and just sunk down onto it. He caught a word here and there but the exact words weren't even needed. He knew that he had screwed up. Fuck. He kept his chin tucked, not looking as she got herself dressed, well mostly dressed... or whatever you wanted to call it.

"Yeah." Noah said gruffly. He got it, he'd been a dick and he deserved the yelling he got. "You can stop now. I know I was being an asshole. I'm sorry." He flopped back onto the bed. "If you want to beat on me for a while, go for it. Just can I ask for some more clothes... I'm not a fucking saint." Put a fork in Noah... he was done. "And you're there in that and I can't even think straight. It's not your fault, it's mine. I know it..." Noah trailed off into a string of incomprehensible words, mostly of the cursing variety.

The only words Noah was probably able to catch were the obscenities that she rarely ever used. So really, that alone would have been a dead giveaway that she was way angrier than usual. Call it the buildup over the course of their entire friendship. It was bound to explode at some point, right?

His apology really didn't seem all that sincere and she would have called him on it if he hadn't started mumbling something about what she was wearing. "What is wrong with what I am wearing?" she asked as she looked down at herself. "This is more than I usually wear when we go to the beach." It wasn't like she was standing there in a thong and some shear bra or something. She was practically fully dressed!

"And what is your fault? You know I am really getting tired of you being cryptic." In truth she hated that he was blaming himself for something but without knowing what that something was it wasn't like she could do anything about it. Just to humor him she grabbed a pair of shorts out of her bag and pulled them on. There, but that was all she was doing because she didn't feel like layering or putting a bra on just because he didn't want to look at her.

Swear words were the best foreign language phrases to use and being an athlete with more than a few teammates over the years who spoke the language (not to mention Nat herself) those were what he knew best. And knew well enough that Nat didn't frequently bust out the big guns unless she was well and truly pissed off.

Granted she had every reason to right now. Though why she couldn't understand that her being halfway naked always was hard on him. Granted at least then he had the waves to distract him. That always helped. Not so much now, just his mixed up convoluted thoughts. And they just made things worse.

Noah just groaned in response to her question. "Oh I don't know... nothing." he ground out from where he had flopped back onto the bed. The ceiling didn't have tantalizing curves and great breasts... so that was a plus.

"What's my fault? The fact that I can't even control myself around my best friend? The fact that I turn into a jealous son of a bitch when a guy looks at you? The fact that I have no business even thinking that? That would be my fault." Noah replied still staring up at the ceiling, though he had heard the extra slide of fabric and he hoped it was shorts. "I know I've been shit for a friend this vacation and I'm sorry. Maybe I just need... I don't even know what I need. A sharp kick to the head?" That sounded good. Could knock him unconscious and that was even better.

He rolled his head to the side and looked toward Nat. What she did deserve was the truth. "I'm sorry Nat. Never should have let it go this long or far or... I don't know. I've always... Fuck it. All those years ago Nat, I never wanted to pretend as though it never happened but I couldn't let it happen. Summer will always be my reminder of that fact. She reminds me that I am just like my dad, an asshole of a man when it comes to women. No different than that bastard James and no way am I ever going to do that to you." Not eloquent, but Noah had never been.

Nat couldn't understand the half naked thing bothering him because she was convinced that she wasn't his type and that he didn't like looking at her like that. What the hell else was she supposed to think after he had all but said it four years ago? To him she was just the friend and that was all. Or at least that's what she had come to believe over the years.

The more words that came out of his mouth, the more confused she got. Jealous? Why would he be jealous? And why did he need a kick to the head? "I'm not going to kick you in the head, mijo." One, it would be difficult to get her foot up that high and two, she wasn't that mad at him. Sure she was pissed, but she didn't want to physically harm him. Okay maybe she did a little but not if he was going to suggest it.

When Noah finally opened up, well in Noah standards anyway, Nat slowly sank onto the bed and just stared at him. He wasn't trying to say what she thought he was trying to say, was he? Nat had never really known Mr. Pierce but if Noah was worried that he would be his father and comparing him to James then it must have been bad. No wonder he had spent so much time at her house when they weren't at school.

"Mijo..." With a sigh she pushed herself to her feet and moved over to sit next to him on his bed. "I don't think you could ever be as bad as James or your father. That's just not you." A slender hand reached for his arm and gave it a soft pat. "I know what your girlfriends during high school said and their biggest complaint was that you focused too much on sports." But really, what guy didn't back then?

"Hey, look at me." She waited until she had his gaze to speak again. "What ever happened with Summer wasn't you. We all make mistakes." That wasn't excusing what had happened with the blond but he couldn't base everything on a one time mistake. "I know you are better than that. You just have to believe it."

Did she need convincing forced by a tent in his pants? He could easily work that up for her, but he'd really rather avoid that moment. Wasn't exactly high on his to-do list. But more than likely if he even thought she wasn't attractive in his eyes he would just feel bad. She was the standard all women had been compared to over the years and no matter how leggy or how enhanced their breasts may have been... they were always wanting.

"Even if I really could use it? How about a good smack?" He offered, the corner of his mouth curling up in a small grin for a half second before it faded back. Logistics aside, he could actually use the kick to his pants. Something to make him get on with this, instead of dragging it all out like some dentist appointment from hell.

Noah didn't move from where he was from the bed, instead he just kept his eyes trained ahead. "You don't think I could be... well I didn't think I could be either. I hated my dad. Hated him so much, I don't care that he's in jail and I hope he does stay there forever. But no amount of hating him keeps me from getting so angry I punch shit or so protective I know it can't be healthy. I think that no matter how hard I try to be the opposite of him, I'm just like him."

He finally turned and looked over toward her, as she'd asked him to. Part of him hadn't wanted to because while he wasn't an overly emotional sort of guy, it was in his eyes that he didn't believe any of that. "But what if it was Nat? That's exactly why I couldn't even think about letting... that's why I was a straight bastard after that night in Mexico. I look at you and I want to hurt someone for looking at you wrong. He always said it was because he loved her so much that he did it all." And left unsaid was that he might very well feel the same and it scared the ever living shit out of him.

Her lips twitched just a bit. "Maybe later." A kick to the head was asking a little much but a smack? Maybe if she decided that he really deserved then she'd be able to look past the whole physical violence thing and smack him up side the head. It wouldn't be the first time and probably wouldn't be the last, but those previous times had been in the name of fun. Yeah, that was it.

His words made her heart hurt and the pain was evident in her eyes. Over their many years of friendship she had never known that he had felt so strongly about his father. Of course there were certain moments that made her think that he didn't like him but it had never been to this extreme. She just wished that Noah could see that he wasn't like this man that he hated because she knew that he had a good heart.

The next words to come out of his mouth transported her back to that morning after but she couldn't say whether they made her feel better or worse. On one hand he hadn't been rejecting her because she had failed on some level but for him to have felt so strongly about turning into his father...it just broke her heart. This wasn't about her, it was about him needing to realize that he was better than his father.

"Noah..." A moment was taken as she tried to come up with the words that could magically make everything better. Wasn't that supposed to be her job as the best friend? "I think you are not giving yourself enough credit for realizing all of this. You might get jealous but have you ever tried to hurt anyone over me? I think not killing James proves that you are nothing like your father." Come on now, that had to count for something!

"If what you say is true, then you have to give yourself credit for dealing with all of the boyfriends I have ever had. And all of your teammates I have flirted with." Clearly she was still having issues wrapping her brain around the whole maybe liking her thing.

"I'll hold you to that." Noah couldn't help but add and he probably would. Because if a best friend couldn't smack you around when you needed it... who would? Well other people might but that probably wasn't a good thing. He needed it from her every once in a while, kept him in line.

He didn't want to have to say any of it. Made him feel like a complete ass to say he hated his own father, but he couldn't help the feeling and who knew if it was actual hate rather than just the only outlet for the pain he'd ignored as a kid. Noah would rather stick with hate, hate was far more simple.

Were there words that could magically make it better? Noah didn't think there were any and he certainly didn't expect her to have them, best friend or not. If there were some foolproof words he was going to be pretty damn angry that he'd had to wait this ling to figure out what they were. "Nat... I can realize it all I want but what if..." Noah shrugged his shoulders helplessly. "I got drunk one night and it's hard to even remember how it happened but I shoved Summer around over some stupid thing. I know it was jealousy and see..." Another shrug. It was going to take him as much convincing that he wasn't a wife beater as it would take her to understand that he'd always been attracted to her.

"I haven't killed him yet, we should leave it at that." Noah gritted out, his eyes able to darken at the very thought of James even at this moment. Noah was pretty sure he'd always hate that guy. Well maybe he'd hate him a little less if he knew his background, but only a little less. "I don't know Nat... I just don't know." He didn't know too much right now and in all honesty it was wearing on him. He'd like one constant in his life right now if he could. Nat had always been that but ever since Mexico... it just wasn't the same. There was always that question thrown in as well.

"I am sorry for being a dick though. Then and now. And mostly sorry I just never said anything earlier. When I was little we just didn't talk about it and by the time high school came around it was such a fucking mess I didn't even know where to start. Just planned on getting through college and making sure my mom never saw him again. He did that himself though which I guess is a plus. But I still should have told you of all people before." Some fucked up part of his brain just hadn't wanted her to know, hadn't wanted her to maybe see him in the same light as his father. Stupid but true.

"Ahh, you got drunk. Have you gotten drunk since then?" Natalia had tried to get him drunk for his birthday but he had played it safe that night. Hmm, at least now she knew why. And not that Nat really knew Summer but a part of her wanted to say that the blonde deserved it. Okay maybe that was a little mean but she really, really didn't like her at the moment.

"If he tries to hurt me again no one will blame you." Actually, if he didn't do anything then her brothers were likely to break him into little pieces since they charged him with looking after her. Just saying. "Noah Jeremy Pierce, look at me." Uh oh, she was getting serious now. "You are not your father and you are not James. I know you better than anyone and I know that you are a good person, even if you made a mistake. Comprende?"

"Hey...I understand, okay?" With a small smile she slid down to lay next to him and give him some quality best friend snuggles. If there was one thing Nat couldn't do, it was blame him for hiding a shitty home life from her. Sure it would have been nice for him to have shared earlier so that she could have helped him work through it all, but she understood and maybe even felt a little bad for going off on him earlier.

Some more snuggles where given as she fit herself right up against his side. "You know I love you, right? No matter what." A gentle squeeze was given before adding "but I will smack some sense into you if necessary."
