Week Ten : Wednesday
Who: James and Kimberly (if you still want it)
When: Early Evening
Where: The Rooftop Garden

Coming to this place was starting to seem like the worst mistake he had ever made in his life. Granted, he hadn't hurt anyone since he had been here, but he didn't even feel like himself at all. He didn't feel like the charming, sociable son of a bitch he had always been. Point in fact, he barely felt like talking to anyone. The days seemed to drag on like weeks and the weeks seemed to drag on like months even though he had kept himself distracted with things. Today, however, he was starting to feel like he wasn't even sure why he bothered. But it was done, and she would be on her way soon, hopefully before Noah and Natalia went on vacation together.

Again he found himself disappointed. She had acted as though she cared, pretended like she wanted to help, but really, she had just told him what he wanted to hear again, and again she had lied. She had spoken to him but once since that day and had she even bothered to ask how he was? No. She was the only woman he had ever loved and she didn't give a shit about him. But, and this was really bad on his part, if he couldn't have her, he wasn't going to easily allow anyone else to have her. And anyone that got close would be punished, one way or another, like Noah, who had his coming very soon, though not at all soon enough.

Standing at the ledge where he had been most of the time that he and Natalia had spoke last they met, he focused his gaze on the horizon. Thoughts wandered, Natalia, Noah, Summer, curiosity overtook him, but he found it hard to focus one thing for too long as his thoughts continually went back to one. What would it be like to fly? His father's father had been able to, but being as diluted as he was, James never would.

And it was then that he decided that, ever were things to get so bad, ever were he to get so bad that he could live with himself no longer, death would come in the form of flight so that, at least once, before the end, he would know what it felt like. Morbid, no? He had many thoughts like those. He just tended to keep those thoughts, those ideas, to himself.

Kim had been at Halcyon for over two months now and she was still discovering new places all over the school. Just last night, she was wandering the halls at 2am, unable to sleep, and stumbled upon the rooftop garden. She sat there for a while and was able to relax enough for the first time in a few weeks. She didn't know what it was about that place, but it definitely made her feel better. Or maybe it was what Dove had said to her. Who knows.

She had been a little stressed out after Archery class, so after she finished her dinner, she set off for the rooftop to relax for a bit. Maybe just getting away from people was the key to relaxing for her. But it made no sense. Werecreatures were pack animals. She should want to be with people. Complicated little thing, wasn't she?

She walked out to the rooftop and stopped as she noticed a rather tall guy standing at the ledge. "Oh, I'm sorry.. I didn't know anyone else was out here."

As much as he tried to fight it, the depression was getting worse and worse. This was how it all started, the breakdown, the thing that got other people hurt. He would fall into these moments of despair and would drown for a while before reaching out, violently, to those around him. He didn't want that to happen. As angry as he was with her, he never wanted to hurt Natalia again. Easier said than done and, in this case, the thought really wasn't the only thing that counted.

The voice behind him took his mind from thoughts that he was trying his best to swim through and he responded with the first thing that came to mind. "There really isn't anyone here." That wouldn't make sense, and was certainly out of character for him.

He cleared his throat and corrected, "I mean, feel free to pretend that I'm not here."

With the life she had led before arriving at Halcyon, Kim was surprised that she had never been depressed. Upset, yes, but never deeply depressed. She was always able to hold on to something that kept her going, that kept her from losing all hope. Maybe it was finally being able to go to a school when she was 14 or maybe it was knowing about Halcyon.. Whatever it was, it made a big difference.

She quirked her brow at his first response. “Uh..” She didn’t really know how to respond to that. Was he one of those super emo types? Because if he was, she didn’t really deal too well with people like that. In her eyes, they were just better left alone.

But then he spoke again, and it seemed a little less emo. “I kinda feel like I’m intruding now.. I think maybe I should just leave. I’m sorry.” She replied as she started to back away towards the entranceway. He seemed like maybe he was just standing there and brooding before. People like that generally just wanted to be left alone to swim in their broodiness as a sort of therapy.

There was a distinct part of him that wanted nothing more than to be left alone. Then again, there was the other part of him that would give anything for a sweet distraction at this point in time. The two debated for a moment and then the later won out.

"Stay." He said, in that smooth voice that could make most girls melt. He turned on his heel, a smile on his handsome face. "You aren't intruding. Truth be told, I'd welcome a little distraction." The smile was set off with a wink, as if he were letting her in on some secret that no one else knew of.

"I'm James." He offered a hand in her direction. "And you are?" He had seen her around the house. And now that he thought about it, more importantly, he had seen her around the house with Natalia. That could prove interesting. As an enemy or an ally either one.

Her eyebrows rose up slightly again as he asked her to stay. Weird. Yes, he was handsome but the smile and the wink weren’t fooling her. She wasn’t the type of girl that was gonna fawn over a brooding guy or try to make things better. Especially not if she didn’t even know him. But she was curious as to what exactly was going on in his head so she decided to stay. “Ok.. I guess I can stay.”

“Kim.” She took his hand and shook it. He looked kinda familiar too. She thought she may have seen him lurking around the House of Fire but she hadn’t seen him in any classes or anything. Maybe he had just arrived or something. “So are you new around here?”

"Well I won't try to force you if you don't want to. It was simply an offer." James replied, getting a tiny bit short with her in that moment. He could be a moody one, and he hardly cared for it when his charmed worked not on a woman. Not that he was really trying all that hard right about now.

"Is that short for something?" He asked, having never met someone who was simply named Kim. He detested nicknames, shortened version of ones given name. He never understood the point of it. Hand was raised to his lips and a warm kiss pressed upon it before he let it go.

"How'd you guess?" He asked, and then sighed a little as he turned to rest his back side against the railing, crossing his arms over his chest.

“I want to stay. I came up here for a reason, after all.” Kim sensed the shortness behind his words and she didn’t appreciate it all too much. Then again, seemed like he was entitled to it, her having found him moody state and all. As long as the moodiness didn’t start to be taken out on her full force, she’d be fine. After all, she could hold her own.

“It’s short for Kimberly.” She was the exact opposite of him, at least when it came to her name. Her parents and eldest brother refused to call her anything else but Kimberly and she came to associate that with their extreme need to be “perfect”. Because of that, she didn’t really like it when people called her by her full first name. It brought back bad memories. Kiss on the hand. How chivalrous. She didn’t think guys like that existed anymore. It was nice to see that they weren’t completely extinct.

Kim leaned her back against the wall opposite from him as she spoke. “Haven’t really seen you around the House of Fire until lately. So I assume it’s because you’re new. I’m pretty sure people can’t move from one house to another so that couldn’t be it. That is the house you’re in, isn’t it?”

He said nothing more about her being there, didn't bother to apologize because yes, he felt as though he were entitled to being a bit snippy. She had caught him during a deep moment of introspect, after all. For him, that was never really a good thing.

"Kimberly is a nice name." Yes, it was about being proper. People with money who were well raised did not have ridiculous nicknames. And if they did, they were new money and hardly worth his time or attention.

"You've found me out." He remarked, a small grin tugging at his lips. "I arrived a few weeks back. You?"

She pursed her lips slightly as he spoke her name. “I suppose it is..” And there were all those crappy memories rushing back. How is it that something as little as being called Kimberly could affect her so much? She didn’t really understand it. She didn’t come from money at all. Her family was middle-class but her parents certainly tried to act all proper and perfect, going as far as denying the were side of themselves and their children. Not good at all. All those years of being repressed was what made her want to rebel against them even more.

“I got here two months ago.” Kim shifted her weight slightly as she continued to lean on the wall and folded her arms across her chest. Seems like he was starting to lighten up a bit. Good. “You know, I find it kind of funny that I’ve been here longer and I just found out about this place..” Her eyes wandered around, looking out at the sky and then back to all the plant life around them.

"You don't like it." It wasn't a question as it was more than obvious that that was the case. "Why don't you care for it?" Perhaps that was a little bit forward of him as it wasn't really his place to pry, but if she didn't want to tell him, she wouldn't. He was simply curious, after all, and it didn't matter to him one way or the other if she told him or not.

"I only know about it because someone else showed me." He stated, sighing a little as he looked around. "It's a good place to come to be alone." A small shrug. "Alone with yourself or alone with others, either one." He eyed her for a moment, and then asked the inevitable question. "What are you in for?"

“I don’t know..” She shrugged her shoulders. “I just don’t.” She didn’t think it was forward of him to ask a question like that. Nonetheless, her answer was a lie. She knew exactly why she disliked it but she barely knew this guy.. there was no way she was gonna open up to him and tell him her life story to answer his question.

Kim walked over to the railing and rested her hands on it as she looked out at the school grounds. Everything was so peaceful this time of night. “I guess I haven’t been talking to the right people then..” She smiled slightly as she continued to stare out at the grounds. This certainly was a nice place to go to and be alone with your thoughts or someone else. Hm. She’d have to keep the someone else part in mind next time she went on a date.

Her eyes moved back toward him as she answered his question. “I’m a were. Born, but I wanted to learn more.” That and Ray also played a big part in her coming to Halcyon, but again, that wasn’t really something she felt the need to share right now. “What about you?”

"Now that.." James paused as he gave his lithe body a long stretch. "Sounds like a lie to me." He smirked a little. She knew why she didn't like it. He was sure of it. And he would have had so much more respect for her had she had the balls to just tell him that it was none of his fucking business. But he hadn't pegged her for the type that actually would. He'd been right. He was always right.

"Hmm." He said, leaving it at that for a long moment. "I know I haven't." Natalia was not the right person for him to be around. He had been doing okay, doing just fine, until he found out that she was here. Truth be told, he wasn't doing just fine prior to that but if asked that is what he would say and there wasn't much that would likely change that story.

"Demon. Born." He smirked. "Though I don't think that those come in any other form." He looked over at her for a long moment and then spoke in a soft voice, "You're very pretty."

Ok, so maybe her answer hadn’t been the most convincing in the world and yeah, the truth of it wasn’t any of his damn business but she wasn’t about to tell him that for asking a question as innocent as that. Now, if he had asked something along the lines of what happened with her family to make her hate them, she’d tell him off in a heartbeat. So he was only partially right on that one. “Ok, so it’s a lie. Sue me.”

“Well, that’s unfortunate.” Kim was getting some pretty interesting answers from this guy, but she didn’t try to read too much into his last answer. “Granted, you haven’t been here that long so that might just change.” And now she was wondering.. was she included in that group of people? Whatever the answer was, it wouldn’t matter much to her.

A smirk spread across her lips as well. “Yeah, I’m pretty sure they don’t come in any other form.” Her fingers were rustling through the shrubs next to the railing but stopped when he spoke in that soft tone. That was kind of out of the blue but she wasn’t one to refuse a compliment. “Thank you.” She smiled at him as her fingers resumed their rustling.

"I doubt I'd have a case." James replied with a smirk and then shrugged his shoulders as he took a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket and tugged out his lighter with his initials inscribed in it. "Sometimes I should think I'd like to be called something different, but considering the very few abbreviations for James, I suppose I should just stick with it." Jim simply would not do.

"Perhaps it has changed already." He remarked, relieving any fear she may have that he was speaking of her. He hardly knew her. Why would he pass judgment so soon?

James watched her response and then he laughed. "Well that sort of ruined conversation, didn't it?" He asked, a smirk tugging at his lips as he turned to face the rail, placing his cigarette between his lips and lighting it. "Smoke?"

“I doubt it too.” Kim smirked, watching him fiddle with his cigarettes and lighter. “Yeah, I think James fits you pretty well. You don’t really seem like a Jimmy to me.” He definitely didn’t seem like the type of guy that would like to be called Jim or Jimmy.

Her eyes moved over to him as he spoke. “Hopefully it has.” She gave him a little knowing smile. It’s a good thing that he wasn’t passing judgment on her already. She was glad she hadn’t done so with him either because if she had judged him based solely on their first few words exchanged, she would not have stayed there with him.

Kim laughed softly as she shook her head in response. “No, no, it didn’t. You just caught me a little off guard, that’s all.” She shook her head once again at his offer of a cigarette. “No thanks. I’m good.”

Jimmy was absolutely horrid and no, he would never concede to that sort of nickname. So James it was. And that wasn't so bad. It was kinda sexy, or at least he made it sexy. Or so he would like to think.

A smirk graced his lips as she bit into the remark. He said nothing more about it, however, wanting to leave her wondering whether or not it was truly directed towards her.

"Non-smoker then?" He asked. "I prefer that in a woman." Odd considering that he smoked and probably tasted like an ashtray himself, but he hated it when I woman had that taste upon her lips and tongue. "I really should quit." He remarked, inhaling deep and exhaling slowly. He wouldn't though. It was the one thing that helped in keeping him relatively de-stressed sometimes.

James was a sexy name. She'd admit that much. But she wasn’t too sure if he made it a sexy name. It seemed a little too soon to tell for her.

She wasn’t really worried about whether the comment was directed at her or not. Kim wasn’t the type of girl that needed that constant approval or acceptance from someone. Too bad for him if that’s what he was hoping for.

Her fingers kept rustling through the shrubs in front of her as she shrugged. “I never really had any desire to smoke.” Kim didn’t like kissing guys who tasted like ashtrays either. That was a definite turn off for her. “Lots of reasons to quit. It’s not all too healthy for one..”

"Hmm. Exactly." James was trying to be a better man. He was trying to start viewing women differently than he had before and not just think of them as toys to manipulate and fuck. That did not prevent him from being judgmental, however, and he was certainly judging this girl, and harshly.

Perhaps she didn't need his praise and approval. That was good. In his opinion, although pretty to look at, she had the personality of a wet mop. This entire encounter was turning out to be rather dull and he had very little patience for dull anymore.

He took a final drag of his cigarette, having smoked maybe half of it, and then put it out on the ledge of the wall. The butt was pocketed, he was no litterer, and a smile graced his lovely features. "It was nice to meet you, but I think I shall leave you to whatever thoughts there were that drove you here to begin with."

He would have taken her hand and kissed it, but he didn't. He didn't feel inclined. Instead he ended with, "Have a lovely night, Kimberly.", and then took his leave.
